On a lighter note --
Steal someone's efs backup, flash it, generate/get a valid IMEI from one of those sources who were doing good business during the "Chinese Phone" fiasco in India and force feed that IMEI

should i use the efs which is of only g3 one's or can i use any android one's???
Srinivas buddy - i would like you to note that i am no techno whiz and therefore my comments on this problem may also be taken with a pinch of salt. If i had to hazard a guess, i would surely try a efs backup from G3 rather than any other phone. The problem which will arise after you have flashed the efs & its succesfully working, is that there will be potential conflict of the IMEI in case both phones are active. Therefore, it is imperative to change the IMEI at once - and people do say that getting a valid IMEI is possible
To repeat myself - i am in no way responsible for any damage which may result from the above and hope that the DEVs have a better solution than my wild-ass theory

ok...but im a little bit confused...can u clearly explain me...sorry for that
What i mean is that when you "borrow" the efs backup from another phone and flash it to yours - then both the phones will have same IMEI since both carry the same efs information. This may cause problems when both the phones are active on the cellular network and i believe it may also be illegal. Therefore, it is important that you should get a new IMEI number as soon as possible.
Please remember that this is all guesswork and not recommended. However, if you dont care about possibly bricking your phone then atleast choose a efs backup from a phone which is exactly the same model as yours & running the same build / firmware + consult the DEVs before this

i don't know wheather it will work or not, but just try this,
copy and paste efs folder of some other galaxy 3 to system folder using root explorer and edit .imei file with text editor and type your imei which will be there in bill or it will be on box and save it.

Check the above link and get yourself a valid/genuine IMEI number instead of getting into trouble!
if everything else fails, flash the official eclair and update it to froyo via kies. then take it to a samsung centre and say you lost your imei during official update through kies. they ought to fix it

I think its pretty much worth a try, to be completely on the safe side u could just flash a firmware with bootloader, when Odin is at bootloader flashing pull the USB cable and the battery, your phone will be a brick then. Just go to service center and tell them that it didn't turn on after a firmware update with kiss.

I recently tried to downgrade my s4 on aurora s6 rom directly to kit kat.. people said --take an efs backup so--there was a folder named "efs_backup" (containing .tar.nz files) ( containing efs of different dates each file ~1kb !!!!!) in my phone storage.. so i thought that must be it.. so i just copied it for later
now.. i flashed the kit kat stock.. (II9500XXUFNB3_I9500ODDFNB3_I9500DDUFNA4_HOME.tar.MD5) lost my signal.. and started to panic .. played around with the basebands ... and also played around with my efs folder.. (as it showed up blank at that time)
since i couldnt get it to work.. restored cwm recovery.. i still had the same problem .. no signal
after restoring to lollipop and kitkat and again to lollipop now..
...in the end i am left with ---
phone shows signal (the range bars- are present)...
baseband shows up okay DDUBMF8 ..
imei is different than before its 004999010640000 now ( fake imei? new imei?)
network shows unknown
i can connect to wifi download stuff etc.. i just cant call
i do have screenshots of previous imei.. so i do have my old imei.. but it dosent match the new fake imei
im presently restored back to stock rooted 5.0.1 lollipop samsung firmware.. ( restored from philz recovery- i had an old 4gig recovery in times like this) alas.. the problem persists
my efs folder isnt empty if thats what u think::
it does have nv_data.bin.. idk why things arent working...
help!!!pls
I have same problem.. From my samsung s2 ..my Baseband is unknow ..

If it's hardware failure then you have two options:
1. Swap motherboard
or
2. Replace EMMC chip on the motherboard en reflash your IMEI on it.

It hasn't been long since I joined the Moto Z Play development and since then I was worried about the EFS. Because it's complex here in the SnapD Chipsets. So what I did was do an adb backup of the EFS partition but that's a lil tricky thing and trust me I couldn't have just enough faith.
So if you wanna backup the easy way. Download the attachment.
1. Put it in SD Card.
2. Flash via TWRP.
3. You'll see the options yourself.
It enables you to make an EFS(IMEI) backup and you can choose to store it on SD card or in the internal storage.
Just decreasing the access time for people here.
Download it from HERE.
Cheers guys! Happy flashing. ?

How did u manage to do that ? Can u please give a detailed guide ? Which ROM did u use ? My XT1650-03 IMEI is 0 and I don't have a EFS backup to use, I would really appreciate if u could give me this help, thanks in advance.
This working only when you lost the IMEI but the IMEI SV is a real number (for example 08) and you can call someone or use internet with mobile net ... The ROM is specific which Bootloader do you have, before you flash another ROM... When you get a Upgrade with the Bootloader Version, you can try the newest Factory Rom (with OTA) which you can remember, before you flash the other (Fastboot)ROM. But before you make it, you don't use the command for flashing the Bootloader in Fastboot Mode. Notice the Data from "fastboot getvar all" always and you get back your Phone easier to Stock Factory Status.
For a detailed Guide, look in my other previous posts, thanks.

Careful: that your currently installed ROM can't read your IMEI does not necessarily mean that it is lost! Most cases of lost IMEI occur when people think their IMEI would have been lost anyway and then overwrite EFS with wrong things.
can i flash it on my moto g5 plus..?
Well, backup is no problem, but restoring ends in a lot of errors. It's nothing urgent since I wouldn't have ever noticed that of I hadn't checked IMEI but still something that just should work
Does it work on Moto G5 Plus?

Do you think opening another thread with your first post here on XDA will give you the solution? I don't wanna be rude but there's a bunch of threads regarding that problems, from restoring EFS from a custom rom over to restore a persist file from a Moto G4.
If there would be a stable and proper solution it would have be posted here.
So you can try out the existing fixes or hope for a stock Oreo firmware to be released by Lenovo which may open up new ways to get this problem solved.

Ok thanks for ur help
Unfortunately, there is no fix or solution for imei. As for signal, that is efs, so you need to flash an Oreo ROM to get a working signal. Unfortunately even this does not always work now, but once you get working 4g etc, backup the efs partition in twrp. Do not lose this backup, you will need to use it often until/if ever, a dev finds a permanent fix.

I would stay away from ota, it is getting risky, there is something wrong with our devices due to 64bit Oreo. To be safe, stay within twrp. If you want the Oreo update, wait for a flashable version.
