Speakers on Onn Tablet 8" NO Sound - Walmart Onn Tablets General

For some reason, out of no where, my audio with my internal speaker does not work. I have this ROM installed:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/andyyan-gsi/files/

It's hard to say with a custom GSI. I'd ask in either a Lineage thread or try to contact andyyan on the issue.

Did you find an answer? I started playing with GSis yesterday, and found that the speakers don't work with any of them (so-far), including PHH 10 "Quack". The headphone jack does work, though.

No, my speaker does not work with any ROM, it's more of a hardware problem than software. Does anyone know how to disassemble the ONN 8" tablet?

Oh. Mine works with the stock image (I restored it and confirmed), but not with any GSI so-far.

Almost certainly a kernel interface issue unless the behavior is reproducible on stock.

At some point the only way it would work was if I banged on it few times and then it would fade out. This feels like the speaker is just damaged not the ROM or Kernel but if that is the case how do I restore it? Do I re-flash everything with SP Flash Tool?

^^ new information ^^; perhaps it is a physical issue after all. As for restoring stock you'll need, to look through the thread (and others in the Onn Tablet Forum to find the appropriate procedure. Best practice involves making a full backup before flashing an alternate ROM/GSI. Good luck if you skipped that step and another member can't provide a proven good image.

I can't get the speakers to work on any of the (android 9-based) GSIs as well. The only one it works on is stock, so it's not a hardware issue. This is with a 10.1" gen1 ("surf", TBBVNC100005208) tablet that's been unlocked.

Humming/screeching/buzzing sounds from within the tablet

First of all, I know that I have read about this problem in other threads but I cannot find it; I think it was associated with custom ROMs but I'm not entirely sure.
I have two problems with my sound right now:
popping
Every time the tables boots up the speakers pop. No a big deal and it might be just because they get activated and the current causes the pop. But every time a sound is made? That is annoying!
humming/screeching/buzzing
Now this is the scariest problem. The sound that comes from "within" the tablet, i.e. behind the screen and not the actual speakers. It does not always appear but seems to be linked to apps trying to use sound. It almost sounds like a hard drive spinning irregularly or a distant old dial-up modem (weird analogy, I know). I don't know what's causing it but in my opinion it's not a good sign.
Again, if anyone here remembers where it has been discussed already I will take the blow as long as I can find out if the problem(s) have been solved somewhere.
Thanks y'all!
1. Everyone's device does that. It's just the way the device wakes the speakers before playing a sound as you say. Would hope Asus could do something about that in the future.
2. It sounds like you are hearing the screen's backlight frequency. Not everyone will hear this (as we lose the ability to hear certain frequencies as we get older), but again it happens with everyones device, and is normal with any screen using a backlight.
Do you have a custom rom on it?

Yes, I do. I use the PRIME! 1.4 ROM and the blades-clemsyn overclock kernel. It has been an issue since the 3.1 upgrade I think. Never had it stock though so I cannot comment on issues with the stock ROM, unfortunately.

What makes this theory a bit wobbly is that the sound isn't always there. It seems to be application-specific. I would expect a backlight frequency (like a fluorescence bulb?) to be audible whenever the backlight is on and not during one application running but not the other.
Process of elimination.
Roll back to stock and see if the problem occurs. If so, sounds like you’re going to have to return it for an exchange.

Do you also know if there has been a use for the SBK to enable root for the stock ROM?

Each app will tell your device to process the images onscreen in different ways, whether thats the refresh rate, resolution or just pixel density, so you would still get different frequencies from different apps all the time. Anyway I'm not saying that's 100% the reason, it's just a possibilty based on what you were describing.

Very good points! Never thought of it this way... Do you also think it's worth going back to stock and try to figure it all out or just take it "as is"?
If it is what I thought it was, it won't make a difference which rom you use, and it's a normal feature of the tablet. You must live in a very quiet place to hear it all the time or have very sensitive ears. If it's not that, then trying another rom as mentioned above may help you narrow down the list of causes. If it's annoying you too much then possibly it IS a fault with the tablet and in which case you'd need to get a replacement. If it was me I'd probably roll back to the stock rom just to see.

After 20 years of listening to metal I highly doubt that my ears are that sensitive but you never know I might try the stock ROM as soon as it has been rooted but for now I don't think it's worth it. I was more worried about something inside the device being tortured

I hear the buzzing sound too and I am also unning Prime 1.4 ROM and Clemsyn-Blades KERNEL. I hear it on the Left side of the tablet and sounds like its coming from the speaker but more towards the screen edge. Never heard it on Stock though.
dja2k
I'll have to wait for another reboot to test this, but I hear what I call high pitched 'tweeting' from the speaker I just have to touch the volume up/down button on the tablet and it seems to instantly stop.
I'll test here in a bit. Using Primordial 3.1 and the OC Kernel at 1.4 right now.
Update: 'twas my imagination on the touching of the volume button. It squeals a bit thru all the ASCII art and status boot screens, but settles down when the lock screen appears. Not a nuisance, but audible.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
I updated the Clemsyn-Blades v6 KERNEL to v7ELITE and I don't hear the buzzing sound anymore. Maybe it was that version of the custom KERNEL. I will check it out, maybe it is just random.

It's the custom kernel you're using, mine was doing the same thing with some weird high pictched sounds too. I reflashed the stock ASUS kernel and it hasent done it since. Just to make sure, I reflashed the custom kernel you're using and the speakers make the humming noise again.

I haven't noticed the humming since v7 of Clemsyn/Blades' kernel. But the popping is as bad as ever. I wish there was a fix for that too!

[Q] Nexus 4 front speaker issues

Hello,
This is my first post so sorry if something is done wrong or whatever. Ive been having issues with my front speaker. I dont think i did anything to break it (i drink a lot though) but its been completely useless for the past week or two. I have the latest cm 10.2 and franco kernel nightlies. I thought updating them might help but it didnt. I also can no longer talk to people on speakerphone like i could before (while the speaker still didnt work). I also tried headphones and now they dont with either. Does anyone have any idea what it could be and/or different ways to fix the speaker?
Thanks in advanced!

Cyanogenmod - Bottom mic not working on any version?

Hey guys, recently just picked up an S4 from a friend after my HTC One battery kicked it. I have a random problem with the phone that I'm hoping someone here can help with.
When using a stock or TouchWiz ROM, I have zero problems with both the top and bottom microphones. I can speak to people in calls or record voice using apps and it's loud and clear. When I install a Cyanogenmod of any version (I have tried 10, 11, 12, 12.1, and 13) the bottom mic drops it and becomes very muffled to the point where you can't hear anything on the other end or in a recording. Speaking in to the top mic works perfectly though. Bluetooth works fine too and I have no issue speaking to or using A2DP with it.
Has anyone seen this before, and if so, has anyone fixed this? I'd much rather use a Cyanogenmod ROM instead of TouchWiz but at the moment it seems I have no choice ...

I've tried a few other CM roms, I'll find an AOSP rom and give it a go now!
EDIT: Just tried two AOSP roms, same deal. Top mic is loud, bottom mic is quiet ... No good!
I'm running CM13 without issues.

I now have CM12.1 with Alucard kernel and STweaks. I've turned the Camera Mic Gain up to 60 and people can hear me now, but they say it sounds slightly quiet still. Is there anyway to go past the max setting in the STweaks?
Not that I know of.

Are you sure you don't got dust in the two holes? Sound to me you have to clean the two holes.
Nope, I had the phone apart and cleaned both holes, no difference.
The confusing part is that on a TouchWiz ROM the microphones work as they should. It's not until I'm running CM or AOSP that I get this problem.
It's almost as if the microphones have been switched and the top becomes the voice mic and the bottom becomes the noise cancelling one.

I've lost count of how many times I've pointed out this problem. No, changing gain value will not solve the problem. This has been a truly dealbreaker for me, as this affects every cm based rom. @AntaresOne said that this problem comes from using caf drivers and I think it cannot be fixed unless Samsung releases its own source codes.

It's not that hard to believe, seeing as there are over 40 different S4 models. You just can't make a rom to work perfectly on all.
I never had any major problems with any of the roms I flashed, yet other people seemed to have serious issues with the same rom.
I don't know why Samsung can't make just one model. It splits the user base, it gives them more headaches because of updates and such.

Cyanogenmod 13 with OpenGApps - YouTube video 60 fps issue

I flashed CM 13 with OpenGApps micro on my GPad 7.0 some weeks ago. It runs fine, but it has a single irritating problem: The YouTube-App is unable to play 720p 60fps-videos. If I start one, the sound works "normal", but the image is "frozen". The same videos in 480p and all normal 720p-videos work fine. I really don't know if it's an issue of the OpenGApps-package, the YouTube-App or CM 13. Is anyone able to help me?

I hope so. This is the only important problem I'm facing with this Rom. There are shure some small performance issues here and there, but nothing that ruins my experience. The LG G Pad 7.0 deserves a perfect and save rom, after the disappointing 5.0 update.
Is this device (LG G Pad 7.0) able to playback 720p 60fps videos on stock roms on youtube and and player apps?

Exactly.. I flashed Stock KitKat just for these small issues.. Double tap to wake for example.. It works perfectly om CM12.1 (even better than stock KK) but doesn't work on CM13.. also in app video playback does have some issues (YouTube, Facebook...) in CM12.1.. So we don't have a perfect ROM for now.. But I am quite sure that the developers are not going to leave it like this
Kindly press thanks if I helped

You don't need CM13 anymore, a developer (his name is Adam My.... I don't know) is working on Lineage 14.1 for this (v400) device. But it seems he can't fix the YouTube bug there either, because it's a kernel bug. I don't know the developer of the kernel, but I'll probably ask.

If the general performance of Lineage won't improve (what do you think? Is it a RAM thing or only the lack of optimization?) would you be so kind to build a version of Slim 7.x which includes these fixes? :fingers-crossed: As I said before, it runs better.

Speaker heavy rattle after nougat update

After updating to nougat my upper speaker start sounding really bad. It has a permanent rattle/buzz when the sound has mid frecuency that is very annoying. It is just a coincidence and my upper speaker just broke or it is software related? It let the phone unusable to play youtube videos with people talking at high volume as it sounds like s**it. Atached a video of the problem. Also, is it easy to replace the upper speaker?
The example is this video at 4:07

I meant going back to either stock and trying it. But specifically, for me, my region didn't have official stock nougat yet so personally trying it was done on official mm. What I meant was, custom nougat ROMs seem to be the issue. I can't confirm a non-issue with official nougat.

There isn't stock 7.0.1 - nowhere.
You can try to clean speakers with vacuum cleaner or compressed air very carefully.
I don't know how much loud it was - I heard something like a buzzing (resonance) sound in your mp4.zip.
If it is what you mean - rather speker/s is damaged, or its attachment.
You can also try twrp+root+viper4a to check it.

In M.M i wasn't having that problem. Efectivily is like a mega saturation in the mid range especter, really anoying.
Thanks for the answers! So it seems like it is a Nougat Problem?

There isn't stock 7.0.1 - nowhere.
You can try to clean speakers with vacuum cleaner or compressed air very carefully.
I don't know how much loud it was - I heard something like a buzzing (resonance) sound in your mp4.zip.
If it is what you mean - rather speker/s is damaged, or its attachment.
You can also try twrp+root+viper4a to check it.

Sory, Stock 7.0 and yes, is that buzzing what i mean. In some videos it sounds even worst!

I have experienced this with all, but only, nougat ROMs. I believe it is software related. I think the gain is high to compensate for low volume in nougat. If you go back to stock does it still do this? Mine doesn't.

I am using stock Nougat Rom 7.0.1 and i have the heavy rattle problem. With stock are you talking about M.M or Nougat? I really want to know if my speaker is bad or is just a Nougat problem!
Thanks a lot!

I meant going back to either stock and trying it. But specifically, for me, my region didn't have official stock nougat yet so personally trying it was done on official mm. What I meant was, custom nougat ROMs seem to be the issue. I can't confirm a non-issue with official nougat.

Just for the record, i installed dirty unicorns 11.7 (it's nougat) and my problem with the speakers on that is nonexistent. I wonder if it's only certain custom nougat ROMs sharing the same audio source?
I actually had this problem on MM. Did you try to remove the "effects" in the Equalizer? Also try to to suck the dirt with mouht (оtherwise will push the dust inside and will make it worst (and of course try with thin cotton and alcohol to cleen the grid carefully )).
My Pure has been doing that for as long as I can remember. I can press down on the center of the top speaker and it stops. I think, for me anyway, that the speaker is bad or the grill is loose.
I think mine started doing that with Nougat update but maybe i break de grill when cleaning it. Anyway it is not loose and i allready clean it with hair, isopropilic alcohol, also tried to aspire with mi mouth with no look . The sound eq is disabled and has no effect on the phone, it is disabled by motorola and there is no app that can change general sound seettings. So i am now more loose, don't know if changing the speaker will help or not .
