I purchased a Mi 9t a few days ago, and I'm experiencing a recurring issue that I can't seem to solve.
From time to time, the UI will simply crash. I can still see my apps but I can't open them, and the notification bar on top of the display just disappears. I can't access anything and my only solution is to reboot. Sometimes I'll have to reboot multiple times a day, which gets old quite quickly.
Most of the time it seems the issue occurs when I'm trying to go to the home screen, whether with gestures or with the home button.
- At first I thought it was a conflict between the gestures in Nova launcher and the gestures of the phone. Turning them off in Nova didn't fix it, so I tried to disable the phone ones and started using the navigation bar, but it didn't fix the issue either.
- I did clean Nova launcher's cache along with the system launcher's one, didn't fix anything.
- I tried to do a full factory reset, it didn't fix anything either.
- I tried to disable the search bar, didn't fix it.
- I tried using another launcher, didn't work.
- Using the system launcher didn't work.
I'll add that my phone and apps are all up to date.
I didn't find anything helpful on the internet, and now I'm out of ideas. Is it software, or could it be hardware ? I can still send the phone back and get a replacement, should I ?
Thanks for your input !

Hi there,
When you did a full factory reset did you start from scratch or did you import your backup?
If you did it with your backup once you were setting up your phone again, it may be some app that you have recently installed.
If you did factory reset (without restoring your backup) and still experience the same issue it could be Software/hardware issue (software being more likely) and yes you should send your phone for repair or get a replacement phone.
But before you do I would advise you to wait until another software update / Security patch is out and see if that resolves the issue for you if it does it was software issue if it does not it is a hardware issue.
Hope this helps
Thank you for taking the time to write an answer, I appreciate it !
Because of a delivery error I received a second device, so I decided to switch and send back the first one. I also suspected that it was more likely to be software rather than hardware, but thought I'd do it just in case. So far the issue happened once on the new device.
You raise a good point I hadn't thought about. I transferred the data from my old phone to the new one, at first. When I did a factory reset I entirely wiped the data on the phone, however I had backed up my data with Google and the Mi cloud, which I restored.
I think I'll try doing an entirely clean install if the issue persists. Thanks you !

I am using the D802, bought it in Singapore under M1. I also use the flipcover with the quick window - bug does not happen when i unlock using it. On stock with TWRP and root.
The problem first started when I rooted my device, I noticed that locking it and quickly unlocking it again would sometimes cause a soft reboot. The problem went away after a while, but today it has rebooted on me at least 8 times.
My logcat is attached below(no confidential stuff there). I seem to be able to reproduce the problem pretty easily today, so I started logging from when I turned on my screen and ends when the phone shows the lock screen when I finish the boot(when the lock screen appears)
Unlocking is attempted the moment the screen turns on and all the widgets have loaded(1second?), and the soft reboot occur both with double tap and using the power on key.

I've already done a cache and dalvik cache wipe using TWRP 2.6.3.2 but it does nothing IMO
Any one has any ideas? I suspect a problem with me /system/bin/cnd file cos is keeps showing a "reading a NULL string not supported here" - it's the one error that keeps showing up. Any help would be really appreciated, thank you so much
I have seen this problem on many, many occasions with my T-Mobile G2 but in my case I did not dug that deep (logcat).
However I noticed the problem occurred while using either the Lockscreen Gmail Widget or the Launcher Gmail Widget.
Once I remove them, the problem is gone.
Cheers!
I see, thank you so much! Just removed it.

WOO. I thought I ****ed up my phone when flashing TWRP but you found it out Cheers. Going to submit bug report to gmail so they can take a look at this.
I don't wanna sound tacky, but saying thanks through the Thanks button is best!!!
Glad it helped!
Today I've the problem again, the notification simply doesn't work, it looks like the sensor is failing or something because I took it out of the pocket, as usual, and it doesn't light on... having to use the power button again...
It happened other time, some weeks after I bought it... complaining with the technical support on Moto Care, without results, so I've factory reset and wipe everything, and it works...
So, my first guess is that the cache of Active Notification may have some guilty on that, but I can't find the app from it to clean and check if it works. Does anyone knows what app is it?
I'm not gonna to factory reset this time, it simply not useful as a solution.
Does anyone have/had this problem?
Regards,
It happened to be one time. I found the solution to be simply disabling Active Notifications and then re-enabling it.

If a factory reset fixes it, it's probably not a sensor issue. It's possible that an app you've installed is interfering with it somehow - do you have any kind of root apps, or apps that play with system resources (like process managers/Greenify/etc.), or apps that control notifications?
I've noticed this on 4.4 a few times, as well as the lag on unlocking from AN a few times, too. Then again, I'm still on the leak, so that may have something to do with it.
Case maybe? Make sure the screen is clean. That proximity sensor is sensitive.
I think I found the problem.
The app management of what will show on active notification... don't active any of those that did not come checked after a reset. I did check some "Google's" for active notification.
Lockscreen not working, also "System UI isn't responding" and Settings app FC
Hey there. I hope this hasn't been addressed already, I wasn't able to find a thread that would help me.
I'm running stock 6.0, no root. A month ago, one day my MXP lockscreen started having some pretty terrible problems; it wouldn't respond, basically. Pulling down would end up with a frozen lock image, then I'd need to press the power button to switch it off, then press it again to get to the proper lockscreen, and that wouldn't work either. After trying about 200 times I would be able to unlock it, then I'd start having problems with the notification bar (wouldn't work/wouldn't get to quick toggles). I tried rebooting several times, but after a few seconds on the issue would start again. Somehow after a while it seemed to start working properly on its own.
Today the same thing is happening. Only this time it's persisting after four hours. I guessed I would just disable the lockscreen altogether, and that seemed to work for about ten minutes. Now I get the notification bar issue, random system UI not responding messages, app switcher issues, a sometimes-not-working home soft button, and when I try to set the lockscreen again it asks for my pin (which I'm not sure it should, being that I disabled the lock); when I type it in the security app crashes.
The issue persists on safe mode as well.
Any ideas? Thanks a lot in advance
Factory reset?
Time for a custom ROM, may I suggest TruePure 2.9
Sent from my XT1575 using XDA-Developers mobile app
OP isn't rooted, so suggesting a new ROM is not going to help. If this is happening even in safe mode, it isn't app related. Sounds like a hardware issue. Contact Motorola (or Lenovo).
OK this is weird.
I have my Note 3 running on Norma ROM v17 without problems and a ton of apps installed.
Few days ago I tried to use smart select (with the pen) when a toast message prompted "Unable to capture screenshot. Prevented by security policy." . Well I just ignored for the moment thinking that something went wrong with facebook app which I was trying to capture.
However this seems to be permanent behavior. I can't take screenshots neither by Power + Home combination neither by SmartCapture not even if I try to use a third party application!
Did anyone had faced the same problem again?
Can somebody point me to the direction to solve this?
One last addition.
I don't know if it is related to this problem but I have to report it. The device boot animation is getting resized to top left of the screen every time the device boots. What on earth can cause this?
I"m back wirh a solution.
I was for more days trying to discover how to solve this problem.
Finally I decided to backup my data and wipe the system.
And then I noticed a command lying in the menu called "Reset settings" which I had to try instead of resetting to factory default the phone.
So this command cleared the settings (I really dont know which particular settings were cleared though ) without losing my apps, data, phone setup etc.
The problem fixed.
:good:
This is not a new issue for me but only just thought about posting about it.
Often when I reboot the phone, the always on display does not start when the screen is turned off, even though it is still enabled in settings. I often have to reboot the phone several times to get the feature to start working.
Not only that, recently I've been having random full system ui crashes, forcing me to reboot which usually triggers the previously mentioned issue.
I'm using substratum and LG package disabler and it might be one of those that's causing the issue.
Just wondering if anyone is having the same issue and how it can be fixed, preferably without a factory reset because I recently had to do that due to another issue.
Thanks.
