How the heck do you disable LTE and force the phone to go on 4G? I need to be able to do this when the signal is weak so I can get some data connectivity. I looked in the settings and couldn't find any toggle (see attachment).
Not sure if it matters, but I have a "pure Google" Unlocked Pixel 4 that I got from BB and using on AT&T.
"LTE" is a synonym of "4G".
The phone can be forced to use 3G or 2G in the mobile network settings, but there is no "4G / LTE only" setting. I would like to have that too - my area is fully 4G covered, but sometimes the phone chooses one of the few remaining 3G stations if that one is just a bit stronger than 4G.
Oh,AT&T haha.
AT&T devices always make fake network type icons to display.
You can type *#*#4636#*#* on dialer to turn on engineering mode. The network information is usually accurate in engineering mode.

I recently purchased an un-sub N1 for T-Mobile in the Melbourne, FL area. It has been painful moving from AT&T because the speeds that I've been getting on HSPA SpeedTest.net have been 700kbps down and 300kbps up consistently. As to my issue now, I noticed that my phone never switches from UMTS(3g indicated in the notification area) to HSPA any more. It used to stay in UMTS until data was used and then switch to HSPA. All over the area over multiple towers this has happened.
Can anyone think of a reason on my end that this could happen? My wife has a stock N1 so I'll check her phone and see if it uses HSPA at all although with the stock radio she stays on EDGE most of the time while my phone, in the same car is on 3g but that's another problem.

Open your dialer and key in *#*#4636#*#*
Go to "Phone Information"
Scroll down to "Set preferred network type:"
and select "WCDMA only".
That should force ur phone to receive HSDPA only. Might need to switch back to "GSM only" every now and then if you're not getting signals and stuff.
Anyone have this problem? It happens ever time
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Hmm.... seems like your phone might be in WCDMA mode only... It should be in WCDMA-Preferred since you plan on using 3G and 2G
Go to your phone dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#*
and Diagnostics Menu should come up..... Go to PHONE INFORMATION.... Scroll down and Set Network Type to: WCDMA Preferred
see if that helps...
Thanks for the reply i am on tmobile and it is defaulted to GSM. Will changing it be any different than GSM?
my phone does that as well right now at home even though i have it on WCDMA preferred, t-mo has been having issues with their 4G towers and their DNS servers lately that has been affecting many people with newer phones/SIM cards and in 4G areas, t-mo has not released an ETA on a fix but i have been dealing with it for a month now at my home and i am about ready to switch carriers

Nope, it'll still be the same. WCDMA-Preferred means that then phone will Prioritize 3G/4G signal over an EDGE signal. So If you are in a decent 4G/3G coverage the phone will set itself into 3G/4G mode... and when you move into an area where you have a weaker 3G/4G signal...t han the phone will be in EDGE mode.
Keep in mind that if you're referring about using WCDMA Preferred in a 3G/4G coverage area - but only 2G works - then you have a network issue. This isn't so much a device issue as it is a MSISDN issue on the network or a potential tower issue.
If you get no signal on 3G/4G and signal is there on 2G - check your coverage first - then if coverage shows you should have 3G/4G, call TMO and let them know, they'll need to do a service request or trouble ticket based on the location and breadth of the issue you're having.
Like the title says...
I have a LG G2 D800 (at&t flavor) unlocked that i use on my local carrier. All bands are the same just so you are aware so I know i don't the wrong radio in my phone.
WIth that being said....my phone locks onto LTE and works great while web searching or something, but after a few minutes it drops the LTE for H+ and erks my gerkin!
it's getting so annoying, this may be a reason my G2 finds itself on the selling floor.....any ideas why? or how i can make LTE the preferred connection and not H+/..
better yet, any one else having this issue? if so, what have you done?
For testing purposes, i play ingress and my phone will have a solid LTE signal, after i launch ingress it drops the LTE for H+ within 2 minutes and stays on H+......getting very frustrating!
It's not an issue. When companies approve the software, they also have a say in how it accesses the network. LTE is fully deployed, however they prefer you to use LTE and things when occasionally syncing, etc. When you browse the phone then picks up LTE as programmed while loading. Once connected it then drops back to HSPA as it's the "primary".
If you want to change to "LTE ONLY" you can do so by opening your dialer and typing *#*#4636#*#* then click "Phone Information" Scroll down to where you see Network and inside you should see "GSM/WCDMA/LTE" ...Click that and scroll up to LTE ONLY.
Be warned that you can't talk on LTE yet so you won't be able to use voice. VOLTE (Voice Over LTE) is only on Verizon and not even they have fully deployed it. Just choose "WCDMA/LTE" and you should see it using LTE more.
Hope that helps you out. Try to understand the tech before you get frustrated and talk abut selling it brother

thank you so much....i can't find those option in that menu though...i looked everywhere for that code and couldn't find it specifically for the LG G2 and just about gave up...didn't know they did that on purpose...thanks..not so angry now....gonna look through these menus some more
*********i don't have the network button...only "turn off radio" "SMS over IMS" and "turn on LTE ram dump"***** i would love to have LTE/WCDMA only...
I have discovered that my MXP consumes more battery than it needs to over night. This is because, on my night stand, I have strong 3G signal, but weak 4G signal and the phone hangs on to the weak 4G signal consuming unnecessary power, even though I have good WiFi too. If I manually select my 'Preferred network type' to 3G in settings at night, this works, but I can't automate the process of setting 3G or 4G modes.
I discovered the "test mode" (dial #*#*4636*#*# on the phone keypad) and the Phone information section allows you set many more options via the Set preferred network type drop down. I'm unclear what the different options option will achieve. I want the phone to prefer 3G over 4G when the signal is poor. Is there an option for this?
Phone is stock, unrooted, on the EE network in the UK
3G = WCDMA
WCDMA PREFERRED (prefer 3G)
WCDMA ONLY (it will turn off you 4G and 2G.)
thing is if the phone shows it is hanging on to a weak 4g signal you have to remember just because it is displaying a weak signal it is still connected to the stronger 3g signal, it has to be otherwise you wouldn't get calls and texts.
Will have to experiment, but
> WCDMA PREFERRED (prefer 3G)
Does this mean it won't connect to 4G at all if 3G is available?
> if the phone shows it is hanging on to a weak 4g signal you have to remember just because it is displaying a weak signal it is still connected to the stronger 3g signal
Maybe, but my issue is the power consumption when connected to a weak 4G signal
Silly thing is it's not necessary to maintain a connection to 4G at all when WiFi is active, when the only useful benefit of 4G is fast data
If a phone is connected to a weak signal, it will take greater toll on battery.
Try - settings, more, mobile networks and then preferred network type. You can then set 3g?

I want the phone to automatically prefer 3G over 4G when the 4G signal is poor. Doesn't look like this is possible, and I'm stuck with aggressive 'hanging on to' 4G despite heavy power consumption.
Hi guys,
I just got a Nokia X6 on Android One shipped from China and for some reason it defaults continuously to H+ instead of LTE on my Cricket network. On my Network Type option in the Setting In only have 3 options 2G, 3G and 4G and I have 4G selected, but still H+ is being used by default even in areas where I used to get full LTE signal.
I have tried however to get into the Android Testing Menu (by dialing *#*#4636#*#*) and change the Preferred Network Type to a few options like LTE/UMTS auto (PRL), but for some reason is the H+ that is picket all the time. even in areas where I know the LTE signal is strong. If I select "LTE only" from that menu, then I'm getting on LTE but as soon as I go into weak signal region, the signal drops completely, while not the same thing I can say about the other option, when the H+ connection is present in the same weak signal area.
Another thing that I see in the Android Testing Menu is that my VoLTE provisioned option is Off and I can turn it on.
Do you guys have any ideas on how can I get this device connected to LTE when the signal is strong?
I have a Nokia X6. I put two SIMs into it, both show 4G.
I have some problem to connect data or mobile internet. Grammen phone provider.
I was ready to purchase one, however, was curious if this would work on t-mobile. If so, would the Wi-Fi calling work?
Did you already checked if your 4g network band compatible with your phone?

So, have you solved your problem?
If the ROM of your phone is "CN" you could try to flash the phone to the global ROM 2_29(WW) or wait for a new update of the firmware. You haven't noticed the firmware's version. Have the phone got any updates?
I just returned the phone and got an LG G7 instead. The X6 that I was using also had a problem with Bluetooth as I was never able to turn it on.
Manually switch the preferred network type.
I am using the latest Stock Android version on Nokia 8 and struggled with this issue too. I tried everything I could possibly do.
The simplest answer is to go into network settings and select 2G, give it a minute to find it. Do it for 3G too. Give it a minute to find it. Then 4G, same thing. Finally select 4G as preferred network type and that should do it.
It looks like the default preferred network type is 3G from the factory.
guys i cant even access my mobile data connection can anyone tell how access it
thanks
