Hi there! So, I’m finding conflicting information all over about this, so I figured it’d be better to ask directly. I’m trying to put a custom rom on a g950u s8, and some sites tell me that a safestrap is the only way to go about this, and others say TWRP will work. The real question is though, I’m trying to get an AOSP rom on it and have no idea how to go about it. I’m used to having xiaomi phones where all I needed to do was unlock bootloader, flash TWRP, then flash zip. If not possible, is there any way to convert g950u version to G950f? Thanks, and sorry for the stupid questions!

You cannot convert it to a 950f. The bootloader on a U model is locked. You can root it. And you can install safestrap you can run one of the modified stock ROMs we have and flash certain zips like viper4 Android. No magisk. No Los AOSP cr no custom roms

hey guys, just want to start off saying that I love how helpful and informative everyone is on this site.
I've got a g900v that I newly rooted thanks to jrkrusem, I have installed the custom rom that he has on the tutorial through safestrap.
I figure i will ask before i continue and maybe brick my phone, I am slightly confused about the difference between bok3, bog5, boe1 etc.
I know Ive got a locked bootloader so no custom recovery but I would like to know which roms I can use. Basically I am looking for a little
clarification on this whole process if someone wouldn't mind enlightening me or even if there is a existing thread that I cannot find please leave a link. Thanks!

The last characters in the version designations are basically alphabetical, the order of which you can see here: http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-G900V
With BOE1 and up, the bootloader was locked which prevents a downgrade.
The custom recovery for our phone is SafeStrap: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/development/safestrap-5-0-lollipop-t3313800
Instructions for custom ROMs here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/help/installing-custom-roms-newly-rooted-t3292655
Hello,
i successfully rooted the Verizon mobile bought online (I didnt know it was coming from US), and Id like get rid of this system.
Can I install any other open source firmware such as old cynagenmod or Lineage?
I found the following https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/jfltevzw/install but not sure it applies to my phone.
Also this article seems interesting, https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/general/guide-sch-i545-vrugof1-look-t3395833, but not sure If i brick it.
anyone who has already gone through change to Lineage?
Can my bootloader be opened?
thanks
Yes you can. But first you will need a custom recovery. I'm not sure if TWRP works for your model, but you could search it on their website.
After the custom recovery is successfully installed, you can flash ROMs. There's also a separate forum for the Verizon S4 I believe, you may be able to find compatible ROMs and recoveries and more info there.

Did you try it yourself.
unfortunately the bootloader seems locked , so cannot instal TWRP or custom recovery...
All Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T s4 phones have a locked bootloader which means no custom recovery without an unlocked bootloader.
The Verizon forum is here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon
does that mean that I cannot install lineage, right?
I notice there's a huge ...problem in custom rom makers and their ability to speak proper English. Not to offend them, but it's just really a problem. Decent instructions are skipped, and words are omitted...not sure if they're foreign or what's up with that.
The confusion is currently I'm on Android Stock 5.0.1 Rooted.
Only one thread for Aurora ROMS mention flashing "BL/CP". If I flash a new BL - firstly - would this NOT lock the bootloader/remove the ROOT off the device again?
In which case - wouldn't this remove Custom Recovery etc?
So confused. A lot of 6.0.1 based ROM makers are not even mentioning custom bootloader and modem.....which leaves me wondering if I need it
Forgot to mention I have bootloader currently unlocked

I think it's less about the language barrier and more of an assumption that you already know what you need to know. It's sometimes hard to remember that a lot of people aren't on this site as much as the people who post ROMs are on it. So a lot of the basics get missed.
To answer your question though, you do need to be on the proper bootloader that corresponds to the rom that you want to be on (6.0.1 roms=6.0.1 bootloader) and depending on which model of the note 4 you have it will relock it. For instance, I have the SM-N910V and in order to get from the 5.0.1 bootloader to the 6.0.1 bootloader there's a bit of process involved (it's not as easy as just flashing a bootloader in Odin and being ready to go). I would look in the specific forum for your particular model to see how others are upgrading their bootloader and go from there. Most of the instructions that are posted with the roms in the main snapdragon section are for the F model and sometimes the G so the instructions for upgrading don't really apply anyway if you aren't using that model.
I have a Rooted sm900v Verizon phone.Im on 5.0 with Knox, detoxed. So its been few yrs now and was wondering what latest OS i can run with KNox ,detoxed,or should i stay on 5.0,if so can you point out to whats out there for my version?I remember when i rooted my phone i had to pick a certain root then.So with that said just seeing if i can run a better/upgrade OS these days like OREO as an example.Looking for some feedback what other Samsung S5 sm900v guys are running, thanks.
I was on 6.0 and went to 5.0, then rooted it, unblocked the bootloader, flashed lineage.

Yo, I see you are a man of culture as well. My S5 is currently running LineageOS 15.1 (Official!) and it is BEAUTIFUL. Runs like a dream. If you want, I can show you how to get the bootloader unlocked and flash TWRP. Send me a PM if you're interested! Best of luck on your journey bro.

Jiwan, would you mind sharing the procedures here or a link to them? I have the SM-903VL model, and while I understand it's a different device, it may not be so dissimilar. I have been attempting root and twrp flash for a while and it seems 2 things are at issue, 1. I had no clue what I was doing when I started, and now, while I have some knowledge, I realize just how much I am going to have to learn If I want to figure out a root method.
2. This SM-903VL is locked up tighter than a nuns corset.
Your knowledge on the afore mentioned procedure would help me understand the workings of these phones a bit better, and, on an off chance, might actually do the trick of at least getting twrp installed.
I have the stock recovery file to insert into the TWRP.

If I could revive and piggyback on this discussion - I'd like the help you offered with getting my g900v re-rooted with TWRP running. I had a nandroid backup and accidently deleted the TWRP, which forced me to re-stock and re-root. I have not been able to recover with safestrap (not impressed) also, I kept getting gapps failures once up and running (Lollipop 5.0 rooted). My initial goal was to flash resurrection or lineage and now I am finding that most instructions say the G900v is not unlockable and I feel stuck. Would you mind sharing with me what your method was or point me to a link that you followed? - I think my chipset started with 11 (as opposed to 15) if I'm using the proper terminology.
Anyone installed TWRP and willing to write a little tutorial? I'm already bootloader unlocked and rooted, but a bad xposed module caused a factory reset. So I figure now's the time. Also, I've heard TWRP only works on Oreo, is it possible to downgrade by flashing the Oreo .kdz? I've seen that both Pie and Oreo have the same AntiRollBack version, but I'd like to confirm with anyone who's actually done it. Also, are there any custom ROMs or working GSIs? I feel bad for asking but it seems like these forums have almost totally died and there is definitely information out there that doesn't get posted here.
How did you unlock the bootloader?
