Samsung J7 730F Ethernet connexion with OTG USB Ethernet adapter - Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) Questions & Answers

Dear,
I would like to be able to connect on internet using lan cable with an OTG ETHERNET adapter, as my son have some medical trouble linked to the "wifi", i have to remove it from my house.
After looking through google, some newer samsung have this posibilities, and seem to be directly link to the kernel.
I've found some tips to change the setting of the kernel for Samsung Edge but it's not working on my J7. After checking with a console ETH0 appear as down and i'm not able to change it by myself.
Did you know any custom kernel or room who can enable this function.
Kind Regards

Connecting LG G2 to ethernet cable to use as a network port tester

Greetings all-
I am an IT professional and was thinking how handy it would be if I could just plug my phone into our wired ethernet network to test if a port, cable, switch, etc is working properly.
Goal: To plug my G2 into an ethernet cable and use one of the IP info apps (or packet sniffer apps) to do some network troubleshooting. Basically, I would want to know if DHCP is working on a port and what IP info the phone is getting.
I know they make ethernet testers that can be plugged into a wire for testing/troubleshooting purposes but these are expensive and can't do what an sniffer app can. Plus I always have my phone and can easily carry a few extra cables with me to make this happen.
Experiment: I bought thingy one and thingy two.
I plugged both of these into my phone and then connected the ethernet cable. I saw the link light come on, so I know there is at least some connectivity. However, I am not able to get any data to pass through to the phone. I set the phone to airplane mode (so it won't use any wireless networks) and try to access the internet and I get nothing. The G2 doesn't know how to use the ethernet connection.
Does anyone know how to make this work????
Thanks for any help you can provide!!

Nope, but thinking it through should be possible. In short you just have to configure Android/Linux to use the 802.11 adapter on the USB port. Would be interested to know what the log files have when you plugged in to the G2. Suspect
1) You will need to be rooted
2) Would try get the LAN adapter working on a Linux desktop first then go back to the G2. If there are Win, Mac & Linux drivers should be possible why Android is 'limited' to ASIX AX88772 chipset needs to be understood though.
Good luck
You will have to write specific drivers for it. It isn't just convincing the kernel that your microusb port is your 802.11 port, because the technology is different. Ethernet doesn't have to worry about maintaining a connection over the air, but it does have to remember which wire is used for what. So it would need an actual driver written for it.

USB Hub Gigabit Ethernet Help

Hello everyone,
I recently wanted to upgrade my USB hub. Originally, I had purchased this hub for my Nexus Player from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L32UUJK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 . This is the one I was going to replace. The reason I wanted to replace it was the ethernet was only 10/100. I have 140mbps connection at my house, so the hub was limiting my speed to 90-93mbps. The extra 20-30mbps I would gain is huge and I think it's worth chasing if it's possible. The wireless AC does test at 130-140mbps, but it's wireless and I've found that even plugged into a wired connect at 90mbps is better than the WIFI AC 5ghz @ 140mbps.
I did some research and searched reviews for a replacement USB hub with a gigabit ethernet port. Most if not all gigabit usb hubs are usb 3.0. Our NP only has 2.0 as you know, so I was limited to my selection. I came across this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IJU0K2Q?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00 . The reviews for this hub and the chipset for the ethernet in the hub claimed it supported Android OS. The only issue was the there was not a Micro USB hub available by this company. So I bought a Micro USB otg that allowed me to power the usb ports so it would be able to be used with the usb 3.0 hub. Here's the otg cable I bought. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FGKXY9S?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00
So I hooked it up yesterday, and did some testing. I noticed that my DL speeds were capped at 8mbps, as well as my upload was lower than normal too. So I rebooted etc. After not being able to figure out why, I read the manual and did some google searching. The manual says the ethernet chip may have compatibility issues for some systems to use the gigabit speed/driver. So it came with a CD and also gave their website to dl the drivers. The issue is the drivers are not an adroid apk, app, or zip file I can flash. After more investigating a possible fix, I found the ethernet chip manufacture has drivers for Android on their website. AWESOME!
Except they needed to be compiled and built into the kernal/boot.img . This is where my issue lies. I am not savvy enough yet to input the drivers into the boot.img/kernel. I wanted to know if someone would help?
The boot.img file I need is the one with Lollirock 2.1., and it's attached to this thread. I have PM'd Zulu to see what he thinks, but I wanted to see if someone else may be able to help as well.
I wanted to know if someone could put this driver into the boot.img and post/send the boot.img back to me? I am trying to see if this is the fix I need to get this USB hub to work and stop limiting my bandwidth. If it doesn't work, I can send it back to amazon, however there is a time limit on when I can send it back before I have to keep it. Can anyone help? Maybe there's another way?
Here's the website from the ethernet manufacturing company with the driver that needs to be inputted into the boot.img. http://www.asix.com.tw/products.php?op=pItemdetail&PItemID=131;71;112
Here's a direct link to the file to dl the driver V1.14.2. http://www.asix.com.tw/FrootAttach/driver/AX88179_178A_LINUX_DRIVER_v1.14.2_SOURCE.tar.gz
EDIT- Fixed. It was a cheap OTG cable.

connect Android with LAN - ethernet driver download

Hi,
I have a problem with connecting my Android device (Samsung Galaxy A5 SM-A510F (2016)) via a ethernet adapter and a OTG cable with LAN.
I bought an ethernet adapter and an OTG cable on ebay.
I rooted my Galaxy A5 successfully.
I downloaded the apps "BusyBox" and "Ethernet" (the app "Ethernet" should enable all settings needed to get USB ethernet). This app does not come with any drivers!
I also tried to connect my device using an active USB hub.
However, you obviously need the ethernet driver on the smartphone (which is not yet installed on Galaxy A5).
Does anybody know how I can get this driver?
Or does something else cause the problem?
Are there some better apps for connecting a device to LAN? (for example one which already comes with ethernet drivers)
Thanks for your efforts!
Best regards,
Simon

USB-C LAN adapter that work on 9T?

Does anyone have tested usb lan adapters with the 9T?
I used all the time a ASIX lan adapter in my old Moto X2 with Lineage OS, so i was wondering i anyone have a "working" adapter/IC with the 9T so i can get one for me?
thanks!
I tried LAN adapter on my mi 9t and i can confirm that sadly it doesn't work :/. It worked on my older Mi 4c but not on the recent models.

good news! tried a "ASIX AX88178" usb 2.0 to gigabit adapter and worked fine! don't know if is only this one, but i think newer asix usb 3.0 will work too (usb on this phone is 2.0 only)
can scan LAN and get internet from it. just need to connect on a network with DHCP ( i don't think you can set manual ip on lan on android)
beware of cheap otg adapters, some of them (tiny dongle) does not have all GND and VCC pins, so they don't get a proper "multiple connection" pins to get better amperage from phone. usb lan adapter can use a bit of power from phone

Hi, can you tell me the steps to follow to make it work? I have a Mi9t Pro and a USB Lan X88179 adapter connected to an OTG to the mobile, but the internet does not work. How did you do it?
Can you explain this part to me?
"can scan LAN and get internet from it. just need to connect on a network with DHCP ( i don't think you can set manual ip on lan on android)"
Thank you.
Hi, i used a otg adapter cable (make sure it works correctly with a thumb drive for example, to make sure every thing is ok and detect the device)
then i just connected the lan adapter. i would appear as if it is not working, but you need to connect to a network router/switch/etc with the cable and the leds should light up on the lan adapter. to "properly" work, you need to connect to a device with DHCP enabled (by default all lan routers have this) so it will give the phone a IP and work normally. (a network icon should appear on the notification bar)
then you can disable wifi and see if there is internet (if have it in the router) or use the network analyzer to scan the network (if it detect the device and work, you will be able to scan the network and find the devices on it)

My otg works by putting the usb memory (yes, it detects it, so OTG is right).
When I connect USB lan adapter (AX88179) to the OTG, the operation lights do not light. And the network icon does not appear on the mobile, and I havent internet. (However, with another Huawei mobile and the Huawei tablet the lights do turn on, the network icon appears, and the internet works via ethernet).
My router is connected in DHCP.
What could be the problem? I need to connect the 9t pro by cable but I can't find the way.
I thought it could be a problem with Xiaomi and 9t pro, but if you connect your 9t I suppose it is possible.
Why don't you use some small modem?

you mean connect the ethernet cable directly to a small modem and this via USB to the mobile? it would be to use the modem instead of the lan adapter, right? it's a good option, I can try it to see if it works for me.
But I still have the doubt as to why in Mi 9t pro the lan adapter does not work
perhaps the AX88179 is not supported... i tested mine ( AX88178 ) with MIUI and LineageOS and works on both,

Hello, I have gone to the Xiaomi store and another to fix mobile phones, in both they have told me that the ethernet option through an adapter to the 9t pro is not possible because my USB is only for transferring photos, videos (pendrive) but it is not compatible with connections. In developer options, the RNDIS option (USB ethernet) does not appear, which would be the one you would have to have to be able to do it. Do you have the RNDIS option in 9T? it would be: developer options -> default USB settings
RNDIS is for using usb <>usb connection to a computer and make a network over usb, NOT a usb lan adapter.
if usb support OTG (send power via usb to connect a device like usb pendrive) it means it "can" support any usb device, but depend only on the device to have drivers and support for the type of device.
Again, i've tested mine in MIUI and Lineage, and works fine. will post a video showing...

Thank you for your answers. In the Mi community forum, users have the same problem as mine, updates from MIUI 10 do not work for the ethernet option (my MIUI is 12.0.3.0. Another girl asked Xiaomi directly and in an email They answered that they had eliminated that option for not going "with their philosophy" (they are also eliminating the headphone jack connection in many mobiles, it can only be used by bluetooh). This is the general trend, I cannot find anyone who has found a solution Only you! Even in this forum there is a thread about rooting the mobile to make it work with ethernet (but it is too complicated for me). Also other people on the forum work the lan adapter by activating RNDIS in the developer options.
So far, none of this has worked for me.
Summary: Since I don't know exactly what the problem or compatibility is, I am going to try the AX88178 lan adapter. So, wish me luck!

Hello! I'm writing to you from my Xiaomi 9t pro in airplane mode with an ethernet cable connected. You were finally right, now it works with the AX88178!! Thanks thanks!!!
Great! if anyone knows a 10/100 adapter that works too with 9T, please share.
10/100 are slower, but consume less power. would be nice to have the option

mine is the same, without the case. but this one is gigabit over usb 2.0 (max around 400mbps).
a 10/100 would be enough for me, smaller and with less power consumption. will try to find a compatible chip from asix perhaps in the future
AX88179 = usb 3.0, yours that wasn't working
asix has these usb 2.0 to 10/100 lan IC's:
AX88172A
AX88772A
AX88772B
AX88772C
will try to find any in Brazil.

i will test hubs and network + hub in the future also
EDIT:
If connecting on a network without DHCP, you can add manually the ip by using "ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.100" in termux for example. i believe needs root for that. ("su" before running ifconfig)
without setting manual ip on network without DHCP, the network won't work .
EDIT2:
my brother has the tp-link usb 3.0 to gigabit USB adapter, also did not work. The chip is Realtek RTL8153.

thanks! Yes, it consumes battery. the option you say would be good. I want to ask you something: on the box of the pluggable USB 2.0 it says: warm cancer and reproductive, for p65 California. I have read that it may be from the lead. Is that why you don't have the case on your adapter?

Galaxy A40 Ethernet Tethering

Hi guys, I have an old Galaxy A40 and I like to share its wi-fi conecction ovet ethernet. I tried with an USB type-c Hub but I can't turn on the USB tethering option and the ethernet option in the menù is only for input connection. It's a problem with some missing drivers or I need an ethernet-USBC adapter? (I use the HUB with my new OnePlus and it's ok but on OnePlus I have the Ethernet Tethering option that missing in the A40)
I'd like to share the connection with a router and I can't use USB ports because the router doesn't allow me to use a smartphone as input.
Hope someone can help me. Thanks.
