Anyone having batterys problems like us?

Anyone having battery problems? My wife and I have pros and can hardley get half a day out of it... does this phone need a task killer? I havent used a task killer since my hero. But maybe this one needs one. any ideas? my fascinate holds a charge more than this and it does 10 times the amount in the backround and the batterys arent that different. Thanks

Pretty disappointed with the battery life too. Barely make it to the afternoon. I just constantly plug the phone in. Considering buying the extended batt if it wasn't 50 bucks.

who has the extendted battery

My battery life is OK, but I'm constantly fiddling with the phone: checking facebook, answering work emails, browsing the web and the Market, etc.
However, my partner's phone made it through a 16-hour day with 40% still left of battery. Granted, it was on standby for 6 hours at work, but the rest of the time was constant facebook, etc.

There are a number of "Power Management" tweaks that can be performed that will dramatically improve battery life. Things i have done include:
device rooted via z4root (this has no direct impact on battery performance but necessary for things that do...)
Screebl Pro
SetCPU (throttle down to 300 when screen off)
AutoKiller Memory Optimizer
Uninstalled or frozen a bunch of stuff i don't use via Titanium Backup (there is thread in this forum that discusses what can be uninstalled/frozen)
Changed phone radio from global to cdma
I have also added an extended battery. I can easily go 12+ hours with heavy data/email and voice use.

these are all great ideas. however, most of the reviews are bad on the Screebl Pro and all of its other versions.

I just received mine yesterday. Gave it a full charge last night. Now, at not even 11am, it's down to 60%. That's after three hours of light usage. Hopefully this is just a battery calibration issue or something since this is the first time it's been fully charged...
Edit: 10%. That's 90% depletion in just five and a half hours. We'll see if it's lying or not.
Edit: The Droid Pro was pronounced dead at 1:48pm, exactly 6 hours of very light usage after its first full charge. We'll see what happens on its second cycle.

I have to say my battery is great. Can make it the entire day even with heavy usage.
However, you need to be really careful with the background apps you are running.
In my case
1) Bluetooth off
2) Wireless Off
3) Set CPU running - scaled to 300 when screen off and scaled to 300-600 when battery hits 50%
4) Running IMO messenger at boot (I tried Ebuddy and it sucked down the battery big time) IMO does not.
5) Cleared most of the default widgets and only added the few that I really use.
6) Running Go Launcher instead of default launcher (not sure if this helps battery or not)
7) Running CDMA mode only when I am in the U.S. (turned off global setting)
8) I get LOTS of emails daily (over 150) so the phone is constantly pulling in.
Hope this emails helps others.

When I first got my Pro a few weeks ago I was ready to send it back due to poor battery life. Decided to give it a little more time, and the stock battery was netting me at least 12 hours of moderate to heavy usage. Ordered the extended battery and had the same issue of it draining the battery insanely fast. Again, I gave it a few more days and now I'm finding myself charging the phone maybe once every two days. All in all, just give it some time -- it'll surely get better, just hang in there!

Day two: Seven hours in, and my phone is down to 20%. Better than yesterday (dead in 6 hours), but then again I used it much less today, and I removed all but 1 widget from my desktop.
Edit: Dead at 4:20. 7.5hrs today. This is garbage.

Try and hold out for a week. My Dream and Milestone took about a week before they were useful. If its not useful after that then you might have to trade it in or get a different type of phone.
Android is not known for its great battery management but you should be able to make at least a typical 8 hour work day imo.

I've stated in many threads in many forums now, the battery life with the "Out of the box" setup is just horrible. No way around it, it just sucks. The stock battery is the same one that came with the original Droid last year. The Droid 1 is a 600 Mhz stock phone. Our Pro is a 1 GHz beast. The stock battery in our phone is just inadequate.
I wouldn't be surprised to see an update in the near future to resolve some of the issues we are seeing though. It's obviously the biggest complaint with the phone. However if you are willing to root you can get the phone to somewhat reasonable battery life.
I've really only done a few things but am seeing a vast improvement. Stock settings with my usage gives me about 4 hours then I'm dead in the water. Now I get about 7 hours and I'm literally doing something on my phone all the time so I'm completely pleased with that.
My main things:
Root and remove the bloat. Play with the phone a couple of days, find out what apps you'll never use then get rid of them.
Get a different launcher, either Launder Pro or ADW.
Buy SetCPU and set profiles for:
Screen off = 300 MHz
Battery < 70% = 800 MHz
Battery < 50% = 600 MHZ
Change wireless mode from Global
That's it for me. If I used my phone like a normal productive Human I could get a full day easy, but again its literally always in my hands, so 7 hours I am very pleased with. That's about as long as my old Curve got me. After that I just slap my spare battery I always have in my back pocket in and I'm good to go with only 2 minutes downtime, as opposed to the 15 minutes down with any Blackberry battery swap.
That's my 2 cents, take it for what its worth. My biggest battery gains came from SetCPU, and to be honest I really can't tell a difference in performance when it throttles me down.

Which extended battery? Do you need a new battery cover?

Well I have to contradict my last post. I burned through 2 1/2 standard batteries Sunday during a 16 hour day at work. I decided to break down and purchase the extended battery.
I bought it yesterday and threw it in my phone last night before I put it on the charger for the evening. Today I'm very surprised to see I'm still sitting at 40% with the phone being off the charger since 8am this morning (10:46pm now.) So 12.75 hours on just the extended battery, I'm thrilled. I would almost say this battery would net me more time than 2 fully charged standard batteries.
I bought the Shell/Holster combo at VZW when I bought the phone. I could not get the shell to fit over the extended battery back without modification (as I've read elsewhere). However, I threw the shell in my oven for about 10 minutes at 200, and the plastic was pliable enough to wrap the phone. It then cooled down and now fits great. A little snug, but it functions perfectly (actually fits better in the holster IMO). I would highly recommend the extended battery. I can see why everyone is saying great things about it now..
The salesman at the VZW store got me 25% off for something (Forgot exactly why I got the discount) and they had one in stock. So I would definitely encourage those to go to the store 1st before buying online. (The salesman, who was a manager, said the only reason they had them in stock was because their store has sold so many of the Pro's).

the has gotten better since we got em but i thing i found which seems kind of weird is im getting better battery life with my screen brightness all the up and my battery manager set to performance

I just got my extended battery in the mail yesterday. I am noticing a huge improvement in battery life with the droid pro. The annoying thing is the back for some reason does not "snap" into place properly. Not too sure why, but putting a piece of folded paper underneath the cover seems to have done the trick.
To anyone seeking to further extend their battery life I recommend getting the extended battery from verizon. If that is still not enough you can buy the Energizer USB rechargeable battery and go from there...

X10 battery drain solved - by buying a new battery

So I always assumed the battery drain was a hardware or software issue, especially as my X10 would often shut down on 40% power and refuse to stay turned on unless the battery were taken out for 5 minutes.
Rather than buy a new phone I thought I'd try a new battery (I have had the phone since August 2010) - just £3 from ebay, and since then my battery life has been astounding - I'm quite a heavy user, but would almost run out after 8-9 hours despite keeping everything off and only switching on 3g and wifi when necessary. Now I can leave wifi and 3g on all day, leave the phone at medium brightness setting and still have 40% after a 15 hour day of medium-heavy usage.
I used to get idle drain of 1% every 10-15 mins as well (unless the phone was rebooted), but that seems to have disappeared as well.
So before you give up on it, do try a new battery, especially if you've had yours over a year. If there's no effect, you've lost £3 and still have a spare on hand.

Whats the size? i have a 1500mAh and a 2600mAh whats ur cpu settings also? looking for a good setup thanks in advance!

I would just like to confirm what OP wrote. Not only did my new battery (I got the 1800mah one from Mugen, $33) solve my battery drain, it also solved my mysterious reboots, lockups, and heat issues. My phone would regularly get up to 48 celcius, it would result in it automatically shutting off the charging. It was a pain in the butt when using GPS on long trips as I would have to have the AC run straight onto the phone just so it would still charge. It was like this from new. With the new battery it has not budged above 29 celcius with GPS navigation, 100% screen, bluetooth, music and sync all running at the same time, I am shocked!
In order to condition the battery I turned off the screen timeout ("No screen off" in the Market) so I could get it to drain to 5%, it lasts twice as long even with the screen on all the time then it did before I got the battery, feels like a new phone.

beware of cheap batteries
beware of counterfeit batteries. Ive read a bit about cheap batteries being inferior knock offs. You tube has several vids about how to tell the difference

I'm about to buy bigger battery for my x10i. Now I have original 1500 mAh. Do you, who already tested thease 2500 mAh bateries see the difference?

My phone starting doing the exact same thing... shutting down at around 40% so I order the Mugen 1800mAH battery as well. Should get it in a few weeks... I did see much cheaper batteries available but figured you get what you pay for, and the reviews on the Mugen batteries seem to be good so I spend the extra money for it. Looking forward to the extended battery life!

Are these battery numbers normal nowadays? Need opinion/comparison with other users

Help me out here, I think my G2 which used to be a battery champ is now absolutely awful. I don't really know if it's the phone going wrong or my different usage and the way apps might have evolved.
I think the phone is also heating up way more than it used to do. In fact, I never used to notice the phone getting warm at all and never knew what people with SD810 phones were talking about. If I happen to run a game like Boom Beach or Fallout Shelter for 5 minutes, not only the battery suffers a huge drop, the phone gets almost uncomfortably hot (*). These games can kill the battery in 1:30 hours of SOT which I think isn't probably normal.
The numbers I now have to show are of the phone fully charged last night before going to bed, turning the phone off and then turning it on to clean running ups, etc and left idle while sleeping.
Went to bed with a full battery at around 4:30 AM and it's now 15:46 and battery is down to 64%. Turned the screen at 13:00 to see notifications and browse through news, made a single phone call that must have lasted less than 10 minutes. Pictures, although I think they won't help much except for the SOT:
I bought this phone used and I think it was refurbished. Came from Spain (I'm in Portugal) and happens to be an AT&T version. Screen was always a bit dark and a panel that I believe has been replaced. I think the screen is also going, sometimes it won't respond to touches on the far right edge.
I have it running on the official Lollipop firmware that I manually flashed (no OTA here) but I've tried different ROMs to see if they make any difference (Cloudy 2.2 and 3.3., CM13 and Blisspop Marshmallow). They don't, battery behavior is the same, phone heats up.
I need to know if this is normal for you guys still using the phone (software evolves and maybe things are more demanding on this old phone) or if something is wrong with mine. If it is, I need to think about sending it for repair (probably not worth it) or get a new one.
Not the best of times for me to be spending money on stuff like this but I'm really starting not to trust this phone, carrying the charger with me all the time and have a nasty suspetion screen might die for good one of these days.

(*) Gets hot mainly on the top back, near the camera lens. Sometimes screen gets also hot but I think it might be due to heat transfer from the back.

I would replace the battery. Li-on batteries typically don't last for more than two to three years. Useful life span depends on how deep the average usage cycle is. I typically try to keep them from going below 40%. An old battery that no longer holds a good charge can cause similar problems. Most rechargeable batteries, including lead-acid automotive batteries in general, suffer from deep cycle charging.

Yeh, I know...
I tested it a bit more and at least now I know it is definitely draining way faster than it ever did and I don't see anything that is especially killing the battery (kept off games that I don't even play so much anyway). Oh well, time for a new one I guess. I have been postponing buying one until all these new 2016 main phones came out and they are all pretty much out already.

After running certain apps, or sometimes after connecting to USB in the car, the G2 will go into an overheating condition, with the battery charge rapidly falling. I just reboot it to clear it, and it's back to normal.

Tried that, even made two more factory re-sets. No good, same results... poor thing is going, I'm already convinced of that. It's draining about 1% per minute with screen on, regardless of what I'm doing. About 12% drain with it just sitting on my night table for 6 hours while I was sleeping.
Trying to find a replacement now which is driving me insane.

Well, replacement batteries are a lot cheaper than phones. Why not replace the battery, and squeeze a little more life out of it? Would also serve as a backup phone after you do get a replacement.

I'm pretty sure battery isn't the only thing going bad, screen sometimes doesn't respond or respond weird. Mine is already a refurbished unit that I bought because it was the best, cheapest and quicker to get phone after drowning the one I had before. It's not factory refurnished though, some guy in a shed did it. Worked very well until now though but I prefer just to get something that is new instead of paying for the repair of one thing and having another breaking the week after that.
It's going to be either another G2 (found one that seems to be an unused unit but seller hasn't got back to me yet and it would cost pretty much the same or less than a battery/screen replacement) or I'll just get some other recent flagshipy phone that will allow me not to think about phones for at least the next 3 years. Not really sure what that would be but hey..

Sudden shutdown 30%

Ok so my phone is the 2017u, running currently the latest LOS16 but this shutdown has happened on 15.1 unnoficials and official.
Is this battery crapping out on me finally as when I was using my accubattery it reported around 72%.
I have a replacement Cameron Sino to fit but since that in itself could be over a year old (new at least) I don't hold out much hope it's not down to 90% just through age.

72% should be decent, although not great. Calibrate your battery.
Calibration:
Drain to 0%, boot phone drain to 0% again.
Charge to 100% without booting if possible. Otherwise charge while in TWRP.
Unplug
Boot phone, then charge to 100%, unplug, reboot, charge again to 100%, repeat until you have 100% after a reboot while unplugged.
Drain to 0% without charging.
Boot phone and charge to 100% while booted.
Then reset Accubattery, do two cycles from 100% to 0% then charging to 100% while booted, no partial charging. Then run normal usage for a week, see if it reports anything different. If your capacity is around 2000mah, you might want to consider replacing it.

Cheers and have done that cycle before for calibration. Does flashing ROMs throw out the calibration as generally always seem to bugger up my phone every couple weeks flashing something that breaks it or doesn't work.
Will do it when I refit my new battery. I happy to burn this battery out this side of Xmas as wanting it to donor its board for a battery mod I have planned anyways.

If your phone is going into dfu and the battery issue is occurring afterwards. It might not be the battery. It wouldn't hurt to get on a more stable ROM that doesn't dfu, do the calibration again and retest with Accubattery.

I think LOS16 is stable enough. It seems to be at least.
If the battery is below 50 % then it sometimes dfu's if I ask to much of it when the ambient temperature is cold so the actual phone is cold to touch or if I feel heat of the phone around 10 o'clock of fingerprint scanner.
Typical example of cold shutdown is could be speaking to wife on WhatsApp back in Canada and boom it's gone and won't reboot until I plug it in.
Sometimes when Ive tried to use the camera or do moving files and it's warm wherever I am it will shutdown also.

Well you're not the only one who has reported dfus with the latest Los16 builds. So as I said, you may want to make sure it isn't the ROM first. Try testing your battery out on DotOS 2.5, just to be sure, as there haven't been any dfus reported there. I know this would mean clean flashing and starting fresh for a few days, but you can restore your LOS backup as soon as you find that you still have the battery issue with DotOS.
Honestly though, from your latest description, it sounds to be the battery.
Are you using another kernel, like Schwifty?

I've played about with schwifty 4, 5.4, 5.5, 5.8 and 5.10 but reverted back to LOS 16 kernal for now. When the next stable schwifty comes out I might flash that though I'm feeling again this side of Xmas it's not a problem.
My biggest problem is I am moving back to Toronto next year before the spring and I can't be having my phone dfu'in on me if it's too cold hence my asking now to try to work out whether it's the battery or not.
Is there anything I can run after a shutdown to report stuff like a logcat or something ??

Oh wow, yeah, all indicators of a bad battery. I wish i could recommend a good seller, but the one i bought one from gave me a battery with only 80% health. I got 50% refund back, since they didn't want to do an exchange. Still haven't decided if it's worth getting another one. I'm pretty content with 6 hours sot.

Wish I could get 6hours sot. It's ok. I hope my Cameron Sino for the grand x4 or whatever it is will be fine. I am going to hack my back out soon and use my dead battery board to solder in 2 replacement 3000mah or whatever fits batteries.
My Cameron Sino wasn't expensive and brand new so I hope it's in good shape. Either way 2 new lipos from eBay and a small Dremel will do the job haha

Replaced my battery this week with a Cameron sino new from eBay here in the UK. Massive difference to battery life and now the phone is lasting more akin to what I expect from an 820 powered phone.

i have same problems here so now and then,also happens on older roms.
also weird battery drains and accu % on statusbar.
Some people claimed my battery is downgraded etc,but at this point i think its caused due the burn in display stuff (when your phone is hot and decide to change roms)
i think replacing your battery doesnt solve it

Battery replacement after 1.5y

Still love my essential after 1.5 years but been having a few issues lately:
First there is this blue spot that appeared on my screen last month
Second i'm experiencing serious battery issues : battery drains super quickly and often shut down phone around 50%. A few months ago I had excellent battery life (whole day without needing to charge), even on latest Android 10 (stock non rooted). I tried a few things including a factory reset without any success...
Screen issue I can live with but battery no... so I ordered a battery from aliexpress and prepare mentally for the repair with this video . Any further advice?
My essential was refurbished so it may explain the short battery life but I am wondering if alot of ph1 owners still run fine on original battery after 2 years? Mine was also dropped in water 6 months ago but without immediate issues but could be related to recent problems I am facing now

Mine is original bought from Amazon deal 1 1/2 years ago. The battery is still great. Fully charged at 9:30pm, next morning at 6:00am, the battery is 97%.
Phone never got dropped or water damage. I took good care of it, and hoping I can use it until Black Friday this year.

It sounds like @chanh2018 doesn't charge the phone way past when it's full. The PH-1 is one of the (many) devices that do not stop charging and draw from the charger when full.
If your use of the phone is different, the device gets run down then fully charged repetitively, then the wear on your battery will be higher. These comparisons are not really valid because of people's different habits.
My PH-1 battery is in good shape, even though it spends a silly amount of time on a charger. I use a Magisk adjacent (there is a module, also an app but I install by script) project called Advanced Charging Controller (ACC). When the upper charge level is reached, on the PH-1, it stops charging and discharges to the lower set-point. On a normal day, that range is 70%-80%. If I'm using the screen for a long period, like navigation, the same is 40%-41%.
I've done something similar since my N6 and have had little battery trouble.

That makes sense - I'm always plugging my phone before going to bed and let it charge until the morning so that might explain my battery issue.
I thought it was smart enough to stop charging for a while when 100% was reached... I'll pay attention to that when I get my new battery!

Well....I don't charge my phone overnight, but I always let it goes up to 100% and I don't have any issue with it.
It's been 1 1/2 year and still running like first day. Maybe I'm just lucky.

There are many factors that influence battery condition. Factors like heat, both ambient and charging related, the speed of charging(e.g. quick vrs trickle), the depth of discharge/charge. An in depth writing on the subject is available at the battery university.

Worked the battery change for you? Since three days I have also heavy battery drain. It needs around 140mAh per hour screen off. My battery health is only 66% said accubattery. I also tried a factory reset...didnt worked. The Phone is like yours 1,5 years old.
I love it too and dont want to change :/

Another possibility is that there is some current leakage due to moisture maybe via dendritic growth which could cause current to leak after dendrites have had time to grow.
(As you dropped in water and/or due to reconditioning work leaving residue on PCB dendrites is more likely to occur as rework normally use no clean soldiering products & likely less clean working methods than factory)

Could be battery failing (not sure how those battery apps calculate rating) though I'd also be looking at a recent app update being incompatible first for such sudden onset (any apps showing higher than normal battery usage) or maybe issue with your wifi/data

My PH-1 is also 1.5 years old and is now having serious battery issues. About two months ago my phone went from "feeling normal" to losing about 3-4 hours of charge per day. On new years day my phone hit 50% and shut off. The phone was not hot at that time. Since that shut-off event my battery only lasts about a quarter of what it would as new.
It would be nice if Essential offered a service to replace the batteries for a fee. I would really like to see replaceable batteries come back in style.

It was the wifi Adapter. I would not habe thought but after disable it I got my old, for one day sufficient battery drain back. I have enough mobile data to live without wifi...not the best Solution but its okay.

I just changed out my battery over the weekend. It was actually much easier than the videos on the web lead you to believe. Now i have tons of battery life and it's back to the way it was when i first bought the phone. Very happy!!

Sweet. Where did you get the battery and which video guide do you recommend? According to AccuBattery my battery's health is 85% but feels like 50!

For me accubattery said 45% and it really did feel like 45%! LOL

I did not do any research on the battery. it was the only one i could find that would get here quickly. So far it is working fine, but time will be the true judge.

The video is good in that it shows the heat gun to use and how to use it. The only downside to the video is they give the impression that the suction does more than it really does. (this is where the guide below comes in) For me it was a mix of suction cup and very light prying.
The guide is by iFixit and it is very helpful. IMPORTANT: DO NOT THE IFIXIT YOUTUBE VIDEO, IT IS NO GOOD!
The iFixit guide shows you where to make your initial tool insertion (i used a playing card edge) and how deep you actually have to play with around the edges. I also did not use scalpels like they do in the guide. I used only playing cards as it is MUCH safer when going around the edges. The playing cards can cut the adhesive, but will not cut the screen substrate. WARNING: THE PLAYING CARDS CAN STILL LIFT THE SUBSTRATE IF YOU GET TOO AGGRESSIVE, THEY JUST CANNOT CUT IT. BE CAREFUL AS YOU CAN STILL CAUSE DAMAGE.
In summary, the approach is a mix of heatgun and suction cup with playing cards around the edges. Take your time. It took me about 30 mins to get the screen off. After that it is super easy, just be patient.

I think that I will wait a little longer until my battery gets worse but I have bookmarked your references...

I also changed my battery last weekend but used a combination of guitar picks / scalpel / playing cards to decouple the screen after heating the edges with hairdryer.
Result : I damaged my screen so I prime ordered a new one for 80$ CAD. Once connected, I used b7000 glue carefully on the frame edges and put the phone under a big book for 24h.
Phone now feels like new and I hope it for last a while...
