Getting rid of intrusive system apps... - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

I myself try to keep my phone clean and running perfectly which contributes to great battery life...I just had to do a clean install and with the amazing root SD maid app it helps me keep track of exactly how many items are running, stopped, and that are installed... if their system, user or actual library.
before I had to wipe my phone I had on an average 36 items running in the background which is phenomenal. My phone performed perfectly... I could easily get 3 days and 8 hours sot....
What I use is an old app called "Total Commander "what's funny is it hasn't been updated for ages. Sometimes it won't uninstall everything unless you open the folder and uninstall the app itself.. It unmounts gets rid of it and then remounts ...I tried uploading some videos that I took doing it but this crappy XDA app won't allow me to do it it keeps failing if anyone has any questions just ask.... Nevertheless here's a couple screenshots before during and after but, to say the least I think everyone should have SD maid and total commander on their phone unless you prefer to run modules that can do it all for you... Those that thinks this is nonsense and please don't leave smart remarks just pass it up and laugh if you will I'm just sharing what has kept my OnePlus 6t in Tip-Top shape...
also I've done a lot of research on what certain apps are there for such as OnePlus device manager odm what a joke who would wants their info sent to China every 6 hours every day I mean come on. Lmao...
These screenshots are with the app. The app being deleted and then the third screenshot is showing you that the app is no longer there...
Also if you don't feel safe deleting the app you can create a folder on the internal storage I make my system apps folders in my Download folder and just move to that folder that way if you're paranoid and you think something may happen wrong you can just move it back....
believe me I've deleted everything that can possibly be deleted and the only thing that's happened is my phone runs way better.??

Yeah like this is exactly what I want on my phone ????

I'm not here to stomp toes or be a prick...I just feel people should really know what is on their phones and I believe everyone has the right to be enlightened and have their eyes opened and I'm hoping that this will help people out.

I agree. One of the reasons I don't run OOS is because of the absurd number of trackers and other stuff they have. A lot of their System Apps are Trackers and removing some of them causes a Bootloop. So I just prefer to run an AOSP ROM.
BTW, MiXPlorer from XDA works perfectly fine for removing apps from /system. It can also delete the Folders. Just make sure you don't have any Magisk Module that modifies System otherwise it won't work. I also had a Custom Debloater that would remove all apps that can be removed but I no longer have it. In my opinion, running AOSP is much better than OOS. Waay less tracking services and better Privacy and Battery.

Right on I had mixplorer.. it wasn't for me... I like test kernels so for now I'm staying on OOS..
right now I got 42 items running in the background which is pretty damn good

Yeah I will eventually... I have to make up another list I wiped my phone the other day and forgot about saving that list... But if you don't want to wait the best thing to do would be download xXx no limits and then go through the profile that comes with that zip and that gives you a good idea of what you can and can't get rid of.

Here's a list thanks to Tomatot Debloater. You might just want to use that..There's a thread or you can just delete them one by one like I do...I just prefer to do it that way so if something goes wrong I could just move the system app right back...that's why it's good to just delete the app from the folder that way you can place it back in the folder where It came from...

AntHal is used for connecting to Fitness Devices like Bluetooth Smartwatch & Fitness Bands. Photos Online is OnePlus's Wallpaper app. Sort of. You can browse photos clicked by the Community and set them as a Wallpaper. Both are pretty useless. Unless you use them. In that case, they are not useless.

Your best bet is Tomatot's Debloat Script. It is available in the Cross Device Development section. Mine was based on that, just customized to my needs. It's actually pretty easy to customize it and Tomatot has a done a good job at explaining it in the OP.

Using this is generally unnecessary. I think there's easier ways to get rid of system apps and not have to rely on an app to do it for you. Just install a terminal emulator. Then run these few commands.
$su
#mount -o rw,remount /
#cd /system/app/
#rm -rf name-of-app-folder/
#cd /system/priv-app/
#rm -rf name-of-app-folder/
#reboot
This is just a quick way to accomplish the same thing if you run into problems with an app. If you mess anything up, reflash rom and it will restore all system apps again.

Apps I recommend to definitely get rid of are OPcommon log tool,OPbugreportLite..
all ODM ,,(OnePlus system service) and OnePlus System Service manager...all items on that list are safe to get rid of..
Although I recommend you to look into it yourself for educational reasons..

I got 10.3.2 running smooth and all junk ( intrusive bloat) removed and so far this update seems good to go...

The Tweak Thread (Advanced Eris Stuff) minor update 10/30/10

Hey all i created this thread for ADVANCED users (and some newbies lol) so that i can better help users tweak and improve performance on their eris. My inbox was getting crazy so i thought this would be better i will still take pm questions but it would be better if we can all learn here. This isn't really a place to report bugs as it would be better to contact your respective developer or post in that developers thread. I will try my very best to get the best performance out of your eris and hopefully we will have some fun along the way. So hopefully this can help take some of the load off of the developers threads and reduce noob-age.
I ONLY ASK THAT IF USERS WANT TO TWEAK I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU EITHER..........
1) PURCHASE ROOT EXPLORER FROM THE MARKET OR THE FREE ESTRONGS FILE EXPLORER APP FROM THE MARKET WHICH ALSO ALLOWS ROOT ACCESS AS WELL.... BUT I THINK ROOT EXPLORER IS BETTER IMHO.
2) HAVE ADB SET UP FOR YOURSELVES AT HOME OR KNOWLEDGEABLE OF ADB. I WILL NOT HELP YOU SET UP ADB OR THE SDK
ALSO I RECOMEND PURCHING THE FULL VERSION OF TITANIUM BACKUP AS IT IS AN INVALUABLE TOOL FOR ROOTED USERS AND MAKES BACKING UP AND TWEAKING MUCH EASIER FOR NEWBIES PLUS IT HAS SOME REALLY AWSOME FEATURES
so hopefully this will give us fun things to do in between releases from our devs. And always remember to donate to these awesome awesome eris devs for their hard work and commitment to us.
i want to keep an open discussion thread, nothing is off the table.
kernels

cooking
roms
tweaks
hacks
apps
fixes
workarounds
you name it lets talk
lets figure it out together while learning along the way
Things are always changing so if you see any errors or things that need to be updated please let me know and i will be more than happy to get the correct information posted.
Moving apks and deleting dulicates...make your system efficient
YOU need either rootexplorer OR be ADB inclined to do the following....
i was thinking while doing some root exploring of ways to make this rom more solid and here are a few tips i thought everyone could use.
IF YOU DONT HAVE DUPLICATES DONT KILL YOURSELF SEARCHING JUST CONSIDER YOURSELF LUCKY. AND YOU DONT NEED THIS POST
FIRST
when i flash a Rom i always do my set up. here is an overview of what i do when i flash........
-i flash the Rom
-then i login to google as normal so i can receive Titanium Backup (TB) and Root Explorer (RE) from the market updates
if someone could be kind enough to give us a sample command to use terminal to install apps from the sd would be a great shortcut for us
-move those two apps from data/app to system/app
-then i do a full wipe (huh a full wipe you say....system files are never wiped....they can only be flashed over, so TB and RE will still be there)
-clean nand (so if you get crazy and screw up you can easily start over)
-Rom surgery
-Restore
-login to google last and sync
-batt tweaks and extras
this process IMHO makes your rom way more efficient than flashing, login and syncing.
OK
first thing i do when i flash a rom is to remove junk
i navigate with either explorer to system/app folder
then i remove all the useless apps i dont use, need or want
AND/OR remove the "ONE USE" apps (like setupwizard.apk only need it once or none at all if your a pro )
this reduces the ROMs footprint making it smaller
the smaller the Rom the better the faster
here are some things i like to rip out of system/app folder....
ADWLauncher.apk (make sure you have another launcher first i use lanucher pro)
Mail.apk (i use gmail)
Twitter.apk (i currently dont tweet)
ProTips.apk
HtcCalibrate.apk (after i calibrate of course)
Launcher2.apk(why have a bunch of other launchers you dont use hogging memory get rid of them)
MagicSmokeWallpapers.apk (this dont work for me but other do)
Carhomegoogle.apk ONLY
etc. there are others you can remove as well depending on you
and we will experiment to find more......
NEXT
i like to move IMPORTANT apks or apps from the data/app folder to the system/app folder epically if your Rom dev has not updated the gapps lately or you cant get access to the latest gapps.zip.
if you do not then you will end up with a lot of duplicate apps installed in your system when ever you receive a gapps update and that wastes memory and will cause memory issues in the future and it screws with autokiller
i like to move my favorite launcher (launcher pro paid) to the same place where launchers go, in the system/app folder (why have your launcher where regular apps go and get killed by autokiller) i think this is better for the system and doesn't hog your app data space plus it adds stability to your launcher.
here are some things i like to move into system/app.....
i like move into system/app are
launchers (stabilze launcher)
keyboards (should speed up keyboard strokes)
root tools and IMPORTANT apps (R.E. T.B.)
security apps (never deleted or wiped in case of theft, hoping thief is not nerdy)
any of the latest gapps update
and some others
this way if any issue occurs wipe and restore is easy as pie
IMPORTANT: APPS IN THE SYSTEM FOLDERS DO NOT GET WIPED OR DELETED DURING A FACTORY DATA WIPE OR DALVIK WIPE.....THEY CAN ONLY BE FLASHED OVER BY A ROM(OVERWRITTEN)
APPS IN THE DATA FOLDERS WILL GET DELETED DURING A FACTORY WIPE......BUT NOT DALVIK
i know we are ALL have at least one pair of identical (double apks in the system)
-but the identical apks have different names
-on is in data/app the other is in system/app
if you have updated ANY google app then chances are that you may have some double apps on your system wasting. when we update these google apks 'think' the rom comes with the apk already and is stored in the protected system/app folder WHILE the actual update is stored in the data/app folder (or where regular apps go) under a different name
EXAMPLE
google maps
-MAPS.apk ........is stored system/app
-com.google.android.app.map-1.apk........is stored in the data/app (this is the latest update of google maps and should replace the older MAPS.apk in system/app)
-these are the SAME APKs
hmmm so think gmaps is 5-6 megs in size and you have 2 of them so thats like 10-12 megs in your system, get rid of the old one.
there are two thing you can do here with two different benefits
-you can either remove the copy from either the data OR system folders depending on what you prefer.
if you remove the old app from system/app that means easier updates with now file moving BUT less app storage
OR move from data/app to system/app which means less FCs, more other app memory, and dealing with future updates and moving each app.
i like to move the new apks to the system/app where they belong
unstable Launcher PRO
my launcher was very unstable for a while wasn't a big deal for me
soo i decided to move my launcher to the system/app folder like all the other launchers....
I think the instability of that launcher was because of AUTOKILLER thinking this is just a regular app in data/app which it was at the moment. i may be wrong but autokiller doesnt kill system apps. so i move my launcher there and guess what now my launcher is much better and faster and stable beacuse you now have lots more memory.
SPEED TIP: in spare parts speed up your transition and animation windows to FAST
MOVING APPS ADVANCED SHORTCUT
i finally figure out a great short cut for moving apps
-first rename and put your favorite file manager (ROOT EXPLO) onto the sd.
to be even faster rename and put your launcher and TB on there too.
-after flashing a rom bypass the setup (touch the android screen) to home screen.
-open terminal
-type
SU
cd sdcard
busybox install yourapp.apk /data/app
-now you have the file explorer ready to go
instead of trying to restore wipe restore.
and hopefully you know what to do next.
so to summarize...
-get rid of junk you dont use and free up that memory
-move apps to the proper locations in system/app AND/OR data/app
-make sure you dont have multiple google apps using different names
"MAPS.apk" and "com.google.android.app.map-1.apk" IS THE SAME APP IN DIFFERENT LOCATIONS. remove the old and put the new in system/app
make sure your main launcher is in system app so it doesn't keep getting killed by auto killer settings and reloading
Replace THESE apps = with THESE apps
system/app = data/app
Gmail.apk = com.google.android.apps.gm-1.apk
ChrometoPhone.apk = com.google.android.apps.chrometophone-1.apk
Maps.apk = com.google.android.apps.maps-1.apk
CarHomeGoogle.apk = com.google.android.carhome-1.apk
GoogleSearch.apk = com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox-1.apk
Googles.apk = com.google.android.appsunveil-1.apk
SuperUser.apk = com.noshufou.android.su-1.apk
AutoKiller = com.rs.autokiller-2.apk
TitaniumBackup = com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup-2.apk
Twittter = (forget)
Voice= com.google.android.apps.gv-1.apk i think
YouTube=
delete OLD in system/app = move NEW from data/app to system/app
YES i did all those with success more memory and speed and a massive increase in overall Rom stability
there may be more
BUT ALL THESE HAVE DUPLICATE APPS USING DIFFERENT NAMES stored in data/app and/or system/app WHEN the latest update should be system/app IMHO to prevent AUTOKILLER from always killing i believe autokiller will try to kill data apps first before system apps.
i still have my auto killer set at optimum and things work even better now
and i gained 25mb of system memory no more Force closes
Batt tweak custom set up process (a 1-2 day process to complete)
How to increase battery life
first off battery life depends on many factors.....
where you live, work, and the daily place you travel to.
im one of the lucky ones who has a cell tower down the street from me here in S. FL.
WARNING: IF you multitask alllllll day on your phone then this is not for you. This is more beneficial when your phone is at rest or in an idle state or screen off state.
Others may not be so lucky and may live in a bad signal area....which causes your phone to constantly search and listen for signals.
Also battery life could depend on the widgets you use or apps that you have active.
Example: Beautiful Widgets beautiful home is a constantly running app that also
-on occasion activates the GPS to acquire location
-on occasion downloads update weather data
Example: Facebook Widget
-by default update statuses every 15 minutes, so every 15 minutes its downloading data
so i usually adjust these settings to my personal liking
Now for the battery calibration process and how it works
Decad3nce port of Colins_ph batt tweak allows us to use some setcpu profiles without setcpu.
Setcpu and its widgets were resource monsters crippling our system and drain battery life as well. kiss setcpu goodbye we wont be needing it anymore.
the batt tweak calibration process takes some patience as the entire process could take 1-3 days to complete depending. Also i highly recommend using the latest CFS kernel by Conap as it provides extra battery savings
we will be running colins batt tweak during the calibration process so that both calibrate together, which makes a lot of sense as opposed to doning them separately.
here is the process and DS's custom settings for batt tweak 1 (the first release)
please remember to prepare yourself not to interrupt the process. the draining process may die while you are at work or during an emergency. so be prepared to have little use of your phone.
-flash latest CFS kernel found here
-flash batt tweak attached at the bottom of this post until its updated and fixed....more info in thread here
-turn off phone and let charge for a few hours or more to ensure that it is full
-when ready boot into recovery mode and wipe the batt stats and power off
-unplug phone and power on (charging cable not needed) you may experience weird battery levels or fast draining (this is normal)
-immediately open TERMINAL and activate colins_ batt tweak
with command batt-cfg and go to option 3 and input these settings........
I think this works much better
this schedueler keeps the cpu much lower
here if anyone want to try it out

- close terminal and operate phone normally if you want...i highly suggest leaving it alone as much as possible until it drains completely dead.
-use a cpu monitoring app just to make sure the cpu is idle i have seen mine dip down 80mhz if not then you need to kill active open apps
-let phone naturally drain completely until its dead (could take a full day or two mine was 48hrs with some usage)
-when dead make sure by pressing power rapidly a few times
-while off let phone recharge for as long as possible maybe four hours or more the mor the better
-when ready unplug phone and turn on
-when powered on reactivate batt tweak using terminal batt-cfg, then option 9 to save and your done (once setup all you need is option 9 to save and reactivate)
-wtf DS my phone is on but reads less than 100% battery. this is normal replug while on and let charge to full
- when full the process is now complete and you can use phone as normal
REMEMBER THAT SOME ROMS DO NOT ACTIVATE THE TWEAK AND YOU WILL NEED TO DO SO UNTIL YOUR DEV AS ADD THE SCRIPT TO ACTIVATE ON A REBOOT. SO UNTIL THEN OPTION 9 IN BATT TWEAK WILL DO THIS
use an app like system panel or seepu to look at cpu speeds make sure the cpu isnt running at 100%.
try to close apps if you see this but a reboot usually fixes this.
these settings allow for the cpu to use lower clock speeds when idle. much lower than the stock 245000 settings yes were going to the minimum 19200 with little to no side effects or slow downs, but the benefits are more when in a idle state. But it WILL drain at about same rate when your using it heavily.
make sure the tweak is running by either opening terminal and enter pidof batt.sh you should see the processing id number if its running.
OR for a full read out of stats do batt-diag
and observe the time in state read out at the bottom. if you see values next to the 19200 clock speeds........SUCCESS!
PS if you screen on time is 3 hours and your phone is dead, DONT BLAME THE BATT TWEAK....BLAME YOURSELF !
ENJOY

ok, i did all the setting tweaks that you recommend. do i have to input them every time i reboot? i dont see a setting that restores my previous settings.
Hey DS,
Great idea to help newbs like me! So after reading your first two posts I looked where my apps are, and every one of them seems to be in system/app... I checked in data/ and can't see anything in there (unless it's sdcard/data, in which case I have folders for Beautiful Widgets and Titanium). I'm using the EStrongs FE, although I don't think that would make a difference. Also, couldn't find any of the duplicate apps you were talking about either (I only have com.google.android.apps.maps.apk, for example). I'm on xtrROM 4.6 and used Titanium Backup to restore my apps.

[Q] root questions...

Hi All,
Enjoying my MT4g on Tmobile. I am interested in rooting my phone and getting the CM7 (Gingerbread) on my phone.
Before I jump into the guides, I wanted to know that is there a way to get back to stock TMO (that came with the phone) just in case I dont like CM7.
Secondly, is everything working on CM7 builds? Are there still any parts of the OS that do not work (wifi, camera etc).
Thanks and would appreciate any guidance on the above 2 questions.
Thanks!
Step 1: Do some reading, both of the RC1 thread and the Nightlies thread, and the CM7 FAQ. There are people who are having problems, there are people for whom things are perfect, and there are people for whom things are usable.
Step 2: Be sure to use the CORRECT version of ClockworkMod Recovery. With the exception of the specially-created 3.0.0.6 version that supports both Froyo and Gingerbread filesystems, you MUST use 2.x for Froyo based ROMs, and 3.x for Gingerbread based ROMs. This includes backup/restore as well as flashing.

I would suggest watching a video tutorial a few times if you have never rooted a phone before. If you are comfortable installing an OS on a computer then you probably won't have any trouble rooting.
You can always go back to stock if you like. Make sure you follow all the steps for the root procedure. I'm pretty sure grankin posted up the unroot procedure with the root procedure. One of the steps is saving a backup of your original phone settings. Keep that in a safe place.
I'm pretty sure CM7 isn't stable yet, but most everything works for that ROM. Wifi Calling and almost everything else. As always read the updates to see what the developer has fixed (or is working on) If you don't like a ROM you can always find another. That's pretty much the beauty of the whole thing.
Hope this helps
Thanks guys. I will go ahead and refresh myself with all the guides and tutorials in here...Last time I was doing this was 5-6 years ago with the HTC MDA Win Phones
Thanks!
Seems like we're in a similar boat with root....
This site rules. I learn so much here and yet there's a ton of info so just to be clear....
I have a myTouch 4G. Is it worth rooting JUST to remove some of the stock apps (Amazon MP3, etc.)? Is there any benefit to be gained from doing that if I have no other reason that I want to root right now?
Thanks in advance.

I have a myTouch 4G. Is it worth rooting JUST to remove some of the stock apps (Amazon MP3, etc.)? Is there any benefit to be gained from doing that if I have no other reason that I want to root right now?
Thanks in advance.

Okay. I understand. But I'm still pretty new at this and so far all I want to do is remove the "bloatware." Does it make a noticeable difference in the way the phone runs if I go through rooting to do that?
Thanks!

Just rooting the phone will offer no performance changes. The only thing Rooting does is give you [the user] Super User access.
With that you can do massive performance upgrade with s=off. but nothing Rooting Only will do.

So are you saying there's something more than rooting that I need to do in order to have the ability to delete the preloaded programs that I don't use?
Thanks!

I haven't rooted my MT4G yet, but I had a rooted and modded MT3G for a long time. I would read A LOT through the guides and threads involving rooting your device, because it seems like you don't know too much about it. But in short - rooting alone does nothing but give you super user access to the phone, which in non-nerd talk means you can control things about the phone that you couldn't do before rooting. If you then want to remove bloatware (as well as do anything else like flashing roms etc), it will require further steps. Again, READ READ READ (and WATCH WATCH WATCH videos).

I totally understand there is more required than just the rooting. And I really really appreciate your post. I guess what I'm trying to figure out is just if there is a benefit to removing bloatware? Maybe it's not really a "to root or not to root" question so much as a "will removing bloatware improve my phone at all" question? If there's a better place to ask, please point me in the right direction?
Thanks again for all the help.
There is no performance benefit to removing bloatware if the application is not used. It just consumes space on the internal SD device.
Rooting and then disabling those apps merely ensures they won't be run.

Titanium backup is a paid app that can remove apps after root (Monopoly, Asphalt 5, etc) Most ROM's you install after root have these apps removed.
Also it's pretty nice to underclock the phone to give you some great battery life. Really nice to set a profile when the screen is off that it slows the clock speed.
I like the videos here
I don't think he uses the new gfree method of rooting though in his video...
grankin posted a video with the root procedure on his post I'd look there.

This is extremely helpful. I have lots and lots of research and learning ahead of me, but this at least gets me in the right direction. There's a lot to sort through.
Just one thing: @2Noob4U - what is the "gfree method of rooting"? I thought you could achieve root with VISIONary?
You rock. Thanks again.
TB does not remove system applications. It "Freezes" them. This marks them disabled in the Android package manager so they cannot be executed, and wont' be seen by the launcher / app drawer.
I mentioned disabling bloatware earlier in this thread. You can use TB to "Freeze" and "Thaw", or you can use the "pm disable" or "pm enable" commands from a terminal emulator.
Disabling a system application is significantly easier than removing it. Plus, removing it may break a dependent application. Yeah, removing Monopoly and Stock won't break anything, but you may decide some tool in the app drawer is unused -- but it is actually used by another app unbeknownst to you. Disabling is safer. Removing requires mounting /system in read/write mode, which is cumbersome to do manually with a mount command, but can be done from adb or Root Explorer.
TB's Freeze/Thaw is available in its Pro version.

I read back through the thread and I'm not 100% sure I found the reference to bloatware, but this is incredibly helpful.
To make sure I'm understanding correctly, I could:
- Root my phone using VISIONary
- Get TB Pro
- Freeze (or Thaw to reverse) any unwanted apps
Would this improve performance/storage in any way or simply remove those unwanted apps from the drawer?
thanks again - as always.

Removing or disabling will offer little performance upgrade. Androids work much like a computer does. Just because the Application is setting on the phone doesn't mean that it is using any resources other than memory. The only thing you will gain by removing or disabling those application is the memory that they are using.

2 things:
1 - do I have the steps correct?
and
2 - if I gain that memory, is it usable by other apps I would install?

1- yes
Download and install VISIONary.apk
Temp Root with VISIONary
Download Ti/Backup
Freeze or delete any unwanted application
and yes other applications will be able to use that space. IF you delete them. If you freeze the no. They are still in the memory the CPU will just not pick them up.

[Q] step by step instructions to delete All unnecessary files from rooted play

OK so my built in memory is always too loo and I'm really getting sick of it. could someone please tell me, with step by step instructions, which files I can remove from my play without crashing the phone. I know that's asking slot but it would greatly appreciate it. thanks in advance.
step 0, open the "safe list" thread at the top of this forum
step 1, download Titanium Backup
step 2, within the app, tap on which App you want to delete
step 3, tap on delete app
step 4, what model phone are you asking about?
step 5, personally I want to know if I can delete QC SEMC Service and preinstalledservice 1.0 on my phone
So far I've deleted
Anonymous Usage Stats
Backup Assistant
CrashMonitor 1.0
Digital clock 1.0
Gmail 2.3.2
MobileCare 6.1.0
My Verizon Mobile
News & Weather
OfficeSuite
StreetView
Skype by Verizon
Talk
Visual VM
VZ Navigator
I've also gone through and deleted, then downloaded from the Market so I can move them to my SD card, with a few Apps.

This isnt windows, having more free ram WILL NOT increase performance
oh wow I have no clue, I have the xperia play from Rogers in Canada
I think your wrong on that one. if what your saying was so why would people recommend you use advanced task killer when your phone slows down, or why would they recommend that you restart?

Infact it's the oposite, people say you should use task killers as it interfears with androids native memory management, Android is a linux based os and thus "pools" memory, so although the memory may appear to be used, infact it's not, it is pooled waiting to be used by the os, this gives much quicker random access.
http://lifehacker.com/5650894/andro...ed-what-they-do-and-why-you-shouldnt-use-them
"In Android, processes and Applications are two different things. An app can stay "running" in the background without any processes eating up your phone's resources. Android keeps the app in its memory so it launches more quickly and returns to its prior state. When your phone runs out of memory, Android will automatically start killing tasks on its own, starting with ones that you haven't used in awhile.
The problem is that Android uses RAM differently than, say, Windows. On Android, having your RAM nearly full is a good thing. It means that when you relaunch an app you've previously opened, the app launches quickly and returns to its previous state. So while Android actually uses RAM efficiently, most users see that their RAM is full and assume that's what's slowing down their phone. In reality, your CPU—which is only used by apps that are actually active—is almost always the bottleneck."
really, thanks for letting me know. but I do notice when I use advanced task killer games run smoother, though I find five minutes after I closed an app it automaticaly reopens.
there a lot more things showing up in titanium backup, anymore suggestions? Rogers xperia play Canada. my phone is starting up alot faster.
when I try to uninstall certain things it just hangs and says uninstalling but it never finishes. this happened with gmail and liveware manager.

No trouble just know that android has a memory threshold, it will let processes run until it reaches that threshold, then it will start killing background processes, you can remove/stop all the processes you want, but another app will just take over as the os wont stop it, the only way in reality to have more free ram is have no apps anyway you should search for an application called "mini free manager" this lets you edit the values of the native memory manager, you can set it to be more agressive, android will allow less background processes to run and thus free up more ram
I was bored so i went and found it for you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630262
give it a try before you gut your phone trust me
are you sure it's mini free manager and not mini task manager, cause I can't find mini free manager anywhere.
how do you use task killer? like, to set it up? I heard it can put your phone into an automatic restart loop if you don't know what your doing.
U can go into ur text messaging settings and lower the amount of text messages thats phone keeps in thread to like 50 or less. That help me before I rooted to free up memory and stop phone from locking up

Enable usb debugging under applications development settings before starting titanium backup app - this definitely solves hanging when freezing apps so suspect same for uninstalling
Problem
guys i have been deleting things as suggested here but now i notice when i slide out the gamepad the "moregames" option is no longer there, it only shows games currently installed on my phone. What have I done? How do I get it back?
Oh man, I thought it was because i never had the paid version, so i bought it -.-

Now that I have root, what should I do?

I followed all the instructions and installed CWM recovery, and then installed su and now I have root. It was pretty easy. There is some loss of quality of the camera but I can live with it for now.
What are the suggested modifications now? The main thing I would like to do is purge all the stupid spyware / adware apps on this. What is recommended?
I am hoping there will soon be a CM install for this so I can truly get rid of all the Sony junkware.
Not sure but can you keep us posted on your battery life after installing a custom rom, curious to know if the stock rom has some special battery efficiencies.

I'll tell you what I did:
uninstall all sony bloatware, expecially that antivirus app...
install xposed framework
install titanium backup
Now I'm just waiting for CM or whatever rom
Do you have a list of package names I should nuke? I can't quite match up all the package names with the evilware.
I'm looking at the crazy permissions some of these apps have. Weather Widget can read my call log! wtf!
Thanks
Well, you sure don't want to take a bunch of low-light pictures....
Xposed Modules
There should be am exposed module who can do this for you, it should be called set permissions or something like that... I personally deleted everything from Sony, I use 3rd party apps for weather, calendar and so on... But this is personal taste I just prefer to use the phone for its hardware, not for the Sony brand
Install gesture control and permanently disable the nav bar. That's what I would do gestures are the best way to control a touch device IMHO.
Install Greenify to enhance your battery life. Install Adaway to get rid of ads system wide. Use Tasker to automatically enable/disable pattern unlock based on your location (ie home or not) and also automate the phone putting itself in flight mode when you charge at night.

I can't wait to install Xposed framework. I can't live without "vibrate on answer", long press tile to go to setting, camera shutter mute, Wanam's Youtube ad-remover, and most importantly GEM Xperia module to hide unwanted apps. Some root apps like Titanium backup, Samba droid, SSH droid, Greenify etc. Fingers crossed for a root exploit.
If you do not really know what to do with root, then I'd really question whether damaging your device is worth it.
This phone is super powerful and the "bloatware" doesn't affect performance - certainly from my user perspective. Just use apex or nova and hide the apps you don't want to see.
TBH, as much as I love tinkering around with my phones, the need for root (as opposed to it being nice to have it) is diminishing as android develops.
Will root for titanium but not much. sony has the battery management that can compare with greenify.

My big thing is I want all the spyware to be gone, and I basically do not trust any carrier / manufacturer builds.
Btw the camera is very good, even post-rooting. And battery life is really amazing. I ordered the magnetic charger, and I can probably wait to charge my phone until the new charger arrives. It seems like this phone could go for several days pretty easily. I'm impressed.

Script for Removing Bloatware?

Hey Guys,
I remember in some of my old phones there used to be scripts the community had made to clear some bloatware.
Is there anything like this on the Note 3 Lolipop? I am quite ok to stick with the stock ROM so something like that would be nice if there is anything like that.
Yes, it needs a brain and some of your time. And an application to remove it (such as Titanium Backup).
Honestly, if there was some sort of user friendly interface leaving the choice of debloating to the user, i'd go for it, but so far, every script out there has removed stuff i didnt want to be removed to begin with, and any argument saying i can install it after is as useless as the bloatware itself .
I have made it a habit to manually delete the Folders (or files) of apps i find useless in /system/app and /system/priv-app/, but i have seen people going further with removing modules and drivers, something i have no whatsoever knowledge about.
Having the options to choose what to remove during the debloat would make it a must-do procedure, scripts are not really well understood by the normal user who even roots. A Aroma package through a custom recovery would be way more logical, i think.

Yes I know about Titanium and I do use it, the reason I asked is to see if someone has made something such as with an AROMA installer that has already done the hard work on finding what is safe to remove and what not.
I don't think there was any need to get rude or offensive, you can just say No.
Not much point removing the bloat when the partition is still going to be 5 or 6GB depending on variant, you wont be saving any space
Debloating has nothing to do with making space (primarily), as i said, some people debloat to the point of system services. The logic is having less bloat running in memory rather than using space.
I dont get 48 hours battery without debloating, so i definitely remove something that drains "a bit" of battery.
I'm looking for these kind of script also. But you may use SD Maid PRO to remove those you know such knox crap, samsung crap and google's crap.
Look if you want to make a pointless bloat removal root the phone and use titanium.
Removing bloatware from your phone can cause more damage than good, safest is to freeze them.
Trust me, I learned the hard way.
Yup. Use for freezing apps titanium backup
