good day,
i asked a relative who lives in India to buy me the phone, when they brought it here (Egypt) and i inserted Vodafone EG sim card it didn't work and asked for unlock code, after looking online (and at the back of the phone) i found that i have to use it with an Indian sim card (some says just keep it in the phone for 15 mins or so and others says to make a phone call not less than 5 minutes)
so will this work? i might be able to get an Indian sim card next month if so, or is there any other way to unlock it, even if by rooting or flashing an international firmware via odin
yeah it does work, I am in australia, and I used with Indian sim and made a call for about 20 mins, and it works well in telstra now.

I am thinking of selling my hero for round £150 because i can just not sort out the problem it has so maybe some1 with abit more knowledge will be able to sort it. It all works fine apart from the problem with the sim card which is for some reason it does not register any sim cards. The phone is unlocked and i was using a 3 sim card in for about 2 months but then all of a sudden i lost connection and then i could not reconnect with any sim card =/ i have tried different firmwares and radios but nothing seems to help. It certainly isn't barred i know that so i really duno what is up with it but would be a bargin for someone who does know. P/M if your interested
It ssems like phone has been blocked.Did you buy it from previous user? Contact him/her , or the branded supplier with imei number for their explanation.
no it use to be on contract but had a problem and came off but it hadn't been blocked by them i was using it for a while after i had come off use to work fine then it just did this. I have heard there are problems with 3 sim cards sometimes thow so wondering if it was the sim cause other sims just get stuck on the registering bit like the sim unlock hasn't worked
Just curious, but why haven't you contacted whoever you bought the phone off?
Definitely sounds to me like the handset has been barred. If you bought it as part of a contract, but then cancelled the contract early, well it makes sense for the operator to bar the handset if you didn't send it back.
Quick call to 3 (assuming that's who you bought it from) should give you an answer.
no its a tmobile i shall ring them tomorrow see what they say
Wavesecure in ROM, allowing to lock / locate / wipe your device remotely in the event of loss and be notified if the SIM is changed.
that doesn't really solve none working sims though does it ?
iv just paid for an imei check and just waiting for the result now
this phone is blocked by tmobile but not by other networks that is why it registers on tmobile but wont make calls or texts so am wondering if its something to do with the unlock code iv put in =/
Hi,
I have a T-Mobile USA HD2 which I just purchased an unlock code for. as per instructions which i found online, i removed the SIM, booted up and entered the code. After hitting enter, nothing happened so I dont know if it worked.
I dont have another SIM yet as I am doing this in preparation for my trip to europe later this week where i will need to use another sim card. Without having a different SIM, how can I check that the unlock code worked?
Thanks
Anyone know how to check?
surely there must be someone around who has a mobile phone, or do they sell sim cards in shops over there? you can get a sim for $2 in Oz at any supermarket.
In windows folder, launch "simlock.exe" (it can be hide)
If nothing appear, it's unlocked
I've got a UK S5 purchased sim free and have just made a 5 minute call in the hope the region lock will be removed, but does anyone know if there is a way to test this? I'm going abroad in a few months (Singapore) and would like to use the phone there but want to be certain this has been region unlocked beforehand.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Spend $35-$40 on online unlock service, you will be worry free mate

I don't need SIM unlocking, the phone is factory unlocked, but just want to know if there is a way to check the status of the RegionLock (before going overseas and trying another sim)

make 10-15 minutes more of calls just to be on the safe side? lol. but all kidding aside I have no idea how to check, and very quick/brief google search didn't turn up results (again very very quick search I may have overlooked it lol)..
I think you don't have to be worry about region lock. As far as i know, Singapore has the same mobile network (GSM) with Australia, theoretically you could use any sim to make phone calls in Singapore

You don't need to verify this. It's already an acknowledged fact. Samsung just wanted to reduce sales in the grey market.
Not many user seem to read your question carefully or simply don't get what the problem is..
I will have the same problem as I will go to Korea in a few month. I guess we just have to believe what Samsung said about the 5 min. call. Even trying the phone with a foreign sim card (foreign friends etc) is not sure since it will connect to the same region operators. But maybe it's worth a try!

5 m8n is not enough, use it for 1 or 2 hours with not less of 15 min of call but 3-4 calls not only one and everything will be ok ( tested on my s5 and on s4 mini) i have multiple sim of france and othrr country outside of UE so i had experience of that probleme
Has anyone found a way to check if the phone is region locked? Would receiving 5 mins worth of calls on a regional SIM card be enough or does one have to make the calls?
There are some technical approaches but why not simply insert an out of region SIM card and try making a call? Does it work - or do you get an error? If you didn't plan ahead and don't have an out of region SIM on hand, a large, local mobile shop can probably furnish one for you to test.
Even if you had to purchase a prepaid SIM by mail order.. wouldn't that be worth it to know the answer? Otherwise you could be scrambling to fix it abroad under more difficult circumstances.
----> If you are rooted, you can do an authorative check by looking at your phone's blacklist file as described here
.
Some websites say that apart from making 5 mins worth of calls its also necessary to insert a regional SIM card before turning on the phone for the first time. Is this true?

No way to know unless someone does rigorous testing. Samsung probably prefers the particulars to remain murky to make it harder for end users to buy lower priced phones from other countries.
.
How can I go about resetting my phone to as close to its factory state as possible? I want to go through the initial configuration process with the SIM card inserted as I had configured it without a SIM card.

A bit off topic in this thread. So you should start a new thread if you have any follow up questions..
But to answer, Settings > General > Backup and reset > Factory data reset > Reset
That should do what you want.
Be warned that this will delete all of your user data, files and apps. So do a backup first.
And optionally follow that by using Odin or Kies to flash a full OEM stock firmware image on the device.
The latter step isn't really necessary 99% of the time and does very little that the first step hasn't already done. But you did say.. as close as... possible
.

did I mention that if it was my device being sold, etc, that I would also trash my encryption keys, do several dd passes over the flash memory, soft brick, repartition, then wipe again with forensic software while pondering whether I had any reasons to simply grind the handset into fine powder.. ?
Did both steps. At least if the phone decides not to work with a local sim card when I'm out of Europe I'll have a clean conscience
Thanks a million.

hi Mate, was your phone region unlocked after 5 mins of call? M planning to buy one but its from other region. Also, will it get region locked again after any update?
Yes it worked fine for me with another regions sim card. I haven't been abroad again since I updated it so I don't know if it's still region unlocked.
I just got an s8 in switzerland, but the sim card lasted no time, as no credit. I have made several calls of about 2.50 minutes each to 0800 numbers (toll free) will this work?
Thanks
I have 2 Galaxy S4 i9505 phones.
Phone 1. Bought as used phone on Ebay and was previously locked to the 'Three' network, I had it unlocked by 'Three'. This phone has always, and still does work without problem with my EE 4G (pay monthly) sim. The only remarkable thing about this phone is that it failed/froze/bricked whilst installing the Lollipop upgrade. It was repaired - new boards - under warranty in April 2015.
Phone 2 was also bought as used on Ebay. This phone had been used on O2 network. I discovered that it had never been locked to any network. I bought a pay monthly 30 day rolling contract thinking that it had been locked to O2. When I put my EE 4G sim in I got the message 'no sim, insert sim'. Baffled. The only thing I thought could be the problem was the sim itself, EE gave me a new sim. The only physical difference this sim had was that it had the Nano option. When I put this sim in phone 1 it worked perfectly, I put it into phone 2 and it worked! I needed to put the sim back into phone 1 to set it up to transfer data. When I put it back into phone 2 the message 'invalid sim' came up and that is where things stand.
As I have two phones I was hoping someone could guide me through the necessary steps to find out where the problem lies by comparing the two, and hopefully find a solution. I have read another thread from tomedwards93 posted in April 2015 and see no solution was found by him so maybe this could help him too.
Can someone please help?
I didn't understand a single of what is written, the description is long and read this thread twice, still can't a understand this thread

I've replaced the sim card slot and done a factory reset, it worked for about half an hour then the 'No sim ' message returned. It still works with a PAYG '3 network' sim, with intermittent 'sim removed restart phone' message I no longer have the O2 account.
I have another fully functioning S4. Can anyone guide me through comparing the Android settings on the 2 phones.
I've never attempted either flashing or rooting and don't understand how to go about doing this.
Just to say thanks for the suggestions, the phone has now corrupted my SD card and I've had enough, I'm defeated. I'll keep this phone as a Sonos controller and go to Lumia 950 on Win phone 10 when it arrives.:good:
Sim not detected
I have a samsung S4 i 9505 and I often receive a message "insert cart sim". After rebooting it works normally
I recently shifted from iOS to this amazing phone just a day back. I saw my friend having this phone and bought it the next day a few hours before my flight in India. I am now in Vietnam and tried inserting the sim card it went on to ask me for a Unlock Code. I removed the sim and put it back on my old phone, after finding out about the Network Lock by Samsung. My Question is can I have any alternative methods than the 5 minute call from the country purchased in ? I am not going back to India for another 6 months and would be so sad to see this phone not being my primary phone
Hope you amazing people out there can guide me on this.
Thanks for any help in advance.

i dont know if this help you or not
it is risky but you can try to flash vietnam firmware through odin

this should work but do it on your own risk!!

Thank you for the Reply. I tried flashing (Good thing is half the bloatware is removed now) but still no luck with the network unlock. When I enter my local sim card it still asks for a Netowrk Unlock Code.
How about this suggestion: Order an Indian pre-paid sim card, one that also allows you to make international calls. Put that in your phone, and make a call for 5 minutes. If I remember correctly, the sticker on the box doesn't say that you actually have to make the 5-minute call in the country of purchase. It only says you need to make the call with a sim card of the country of purchase (I don't have the sticker anymore, so I could be wrong).
