Speakerphone (loudness, clarity) - LG V60 ThinQ Real Life Review

Proper etiquette aside (hint: don't use speakerphone while doing your "business" in a public bathroom), rate this thread to express how you think the LG V60 ThinQ's speakerphone performs. A higher rating indicates that you love it: it's loud and it's clear.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Speaker quality is plenty loud and clear

Speaker is a vast improvement over my V30, however I have had quite a few people say my phone goes silent and they don't hear me when on speakerphone.

Just got v60 from at&t the other day. I have issues with people not able to hear me on speaker phone. Sometimes it's right away. Other times I've been on a call via speakerphone for 30+ mins and then all of a sudden "sir. Sir are you there? Hello sir are you still on the line". Hope it gets fixed asap

I just got the V60 from Verizon and I've experienced SEVERAL times where the caller could not hear me on speaker phone. I thought it was their connection, but now I'm thinking it's my phone.

The speakers are very good and at times can be too loud.

So I've confirmed the speakerphone is a regular issue. Verizon says return the phone but several people have said their replacement had problems, but they too. It basically only works intermittently. I think it's a software issue, so hopefully LG will issue a fix. It's super annoying, but though.

So it seems like it's affecting people on all major carriers. I posted earlier about it not working and I'm on T-Mobile and I saw someone else on AT&T. Hopefully it's just a software fix in the short future.

ATT here, both me and my wife experience many issues with the other caller unable to hear either of us on speaker phone. This happens both while on WiFi Calling and on regular cell service.

Hey guys,
I experienced the same thing several times during phone calls. when I put the call on speaker phone, after couple of mins, the person on the other end could not hear me. I need to turn off the speakerphone so he can hear me back. The occurence varies, and it happens to me usually during the first 5mins of the call. the shortest is ranging from the 1st-2nd mins during the start of the phone call and the longest is about 10mins 15mins of call. They all happen when the speakerphone is on.
I restarted the phone, hard reset and factory reset, it happened again. I turned off the wifi, and everything still happened, so I decide to phone my carrier which advice me to call LG if it was a bug or not.
I talk to one of LG Canada's representative and they told me that I was the only person who reported the problem as of yesterday, and they didn't know anyone that experiencing it. To consider it as a bug or hardware problem, they said that they need to receive at least 3 reports before they can do something about it. They offer me a repair, but declined. After all, I just got my phone 3 days ago, I'll be replacing it with a new LG V60 tomorrow. Now I'm a little bit worried that it might be a problem of the 1st batch of V60's.
I hope just an isolated case for all of us I love the phone and I'm only allowed to replace the phone once. ?

Very interesting, I've not had the issue, but then again I just got the phone from T-Mobile. I can say the speaker sound is higher quality than the Essential and much louder too! I'll have to make some phone calls using the speaker to find out if I have the bug.

Verizon LG V60 here. Same problem with the speakerphone dropping after a while. into the call. Very frustrating since I can still hear the other party but they can no longer hear me. I'm working from home due to COVID-19, so this is my primary business phone. LG needs to fix this ASAP please!

I posted previously about being on at&t andnhaving the issue eith the speakerphone durring calls. i also wanted to express that i dont feel the speakers are loud enough durring pgone calls when on speaker phone mode. i literally have to pick upnthe phone and hold it near my head if in not in a dead quite area. my previous LG phone "v35" was 2 times louder using speaker phone on calls. im really disappointed with this speaker phone issue. when i watch you tube or listen to music the speakers arw nice and loud. best ive ever had. but when on speaker phone for a call like listening to visual voicemail or anything else they just suck.... i should not have to hold the phone up to shoulder height to hear people on speaker phone mode prior to the mic dropping my voice.
also ive found that when the moc drops and the other person can't hear me what i have to donis hit the speaker phone button to takenl it out of speaker phone and then putnit back into soeaker pgone and then they can hear me. for how long before it drops again? i dont know because ninget off thebphone shortly after that due to frustration.

I have the same speakerphone issue with my V30. Must be a software bug that they've never corrected.

now have this issue
So... I did a review and did not experience this. Actually all my calls worked well for the first few weeks including a 40 minute call to my mom across the country all on speakerphone.
Then... I had to do a long hold call to Whirlpool on May 5th and it opened up the mute-gate. The CSR answered and couldnt hear me. Had to go off speakerphone. Now, every call or 3 i get the random mic cut off. I have the T-Mobile version. So... I saw some folks posting about not letting it go to the black screen but when it cuts out its happened at all random times. With the screen on, with it off, mid using it surfing the web, etc and it will happen at random times. Sometimes i can get through a call for about 10 minutes. Other times its within 30 seconds. I tried to do a list of things that bother me to the point of being critical... its the only thing that makes me hate the phone. I love the phone outside this speakerphone problem. I'm hoping for what seems to be a software worthy fix but we shall see.
The only positive is i can use my Google voice number through the Google voice app (mainly for business inquiries or things where i need a business to call me back) and it hasn't cut my mic off yet when I use speakerphone. Not sure if anyone has tried Google Voice or any other phone apps which leads me to believe its software related

It's a weird, frustrating issue because I can't troubleshoot it successfully. I went 7 days without seeing it come up, and then a few days ago it happened again. I sometimes toggle the speakerphone off and on once and it works. Other times it takes two or three "toggles" to make it switch back on.
Once it's corrected I haven't seen it happen again on that call.
Please keep contacting LG and your carrier. We need to let them know. Oh and while you're at it, complain about the fingerprint reader....ugh.

Happy to hear LG is aware of the issue and fixed it.

the stereo speakerphone on this phone is one of the first things that really stood out to me... so loud, and you can really "feel" the sound when holding the phone. great for gaming and listening to music / podcasts / etc.

I'm on T-Mobile, calling through wifi, the speaker phone on this is worlds better than the speaker phone on the Note 8 I'm coming from.

Any word on a fix for this yet? I use my phone speakerphone for calls a lot and if this is still an issue, I can't consider the v60

Anyone had this problem with N1? Can only hear calls through the speakerphone now =(

Hey guys I searched the forum but didn't find anything on this particular problem.
I got a replacement warranty swap N1 sent to me and for the first 2 days it was working fine but for some unknown reason I cannot hear the other person on a call and the ONLY way I can hear the other person is to have the speakerphone on
Has anyone ever dealt with this? Any ideas?
Thank you guys for any help you can give me.
Did you check the voice volume setting?
Did you check if the physical speaker is working at all? It might be disconnected.
Return for another replacement, I say. If the voice volume setting is ok - it's most probably a faulty speaker.
I don't have that exact problem, but sometimes, pretty randomly, when I swipe to answer a call, it answers with speakerphone turned on, which can be pretty startling (and, depending on what the first thing the caller says is, pretty embarrassing).

[Q] Nobody can hear me... AGAIN!!!

I had purchased a surround on launch day and within a few days every now and then nobody could hear me. I thought it was a fluke or sim issue but have since ruled this out. Has anyone else had this issue. I also had it replaced and about the same amount of time. About a week or so and now its almost every phone call unless I reboot, which allows it to work a few times before coming back, so I know its not hardware. Should I switch to another device, eg: the lg quantum, or is there a fix Im not aware of?? I love the surround but I have missed some really important phone calls because of this. I will also note my buddy had her surround replaced for same exact reason and she bought hers at a different store all together.
What?
Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
I am going to lean towards a bad manufacture batch. I've had my surround since launch and haven't experienced this issue at all.
When you had it replaced, did you do it at the store you bought it from? Try having ATT ship you a new one. This would pretty much ensure that it's not from the same batch.

i did have it shipped for the replacement and still a no go. I rebooted yesterday and have not had the problem again yet but it is getting truly annoying. Hopefully its just something that goes away as I love my surround
I had this issue once, after about 3 weeks with the phone. Re-booted, and it's been good since (another couple weeks).
Hopefully an isolated incident.
I think I am having the same problem.
It started a couple of days ago.
This is what I am experiencing:
When I make a call, the other side cannot hear me, but I can hear them. Most of the time when I terminate the call, and redial, it works; they can hear me. Some times it takes more than one redial to get it working.
Today I made a discovery; during a call, when they cannot hear me, I plug-in the earphones and voila: they can hear me. The funny thing is that even if I unplug the headphones, the microphones work.
Has anybody else tried this?

Nobody??????
I've had this happen once or twice. It took a complete reboot for the mic to start working again each time. I checked with a decibel meter app and it reported -1dB from the mic while I was having the problem.
I've had that phone replaced since then and I haven't had that on this new one.
I've experienced this problem twice. For both times, battery went critical low while I was calling. And I was not able to get microphone working again until I reset the phone.
I'm not sure if the "battery is critical low" causes this problem.
I've had the same issues with my Surround a couple of times, a reboot always corrects it. My brother just got a Surround last week, and has already had it happen once, a reboot fixed his too. It's funny, he upgraded from the Tilt 2 because of the same issues on that phone, using Android was the only thing I could find to fix the issue on the Tilt 2.
i have the same problem! i try install 2 diferent roms and nothing

[Q] Help---people can't hear me

I had an issue with my LG G2 where people can't hear me when I call them. If I turn on speakerphone, they can usually hear me then. So I exchanged my G2 for a new one. Same problem now. About every 5th call or so, people can't hear me. It's driving me nuts. Could there be some software that's messing things up? I have google voice installed, and while most of the calls in question are GV calls, not all of them are. Just called someone now from my regular number and they couldn't hear me. Anyone have any tips or even advice on how I can tackle this?
Running latest Android updates and apps always, no root. Verizon. Calls placed from random locations (and even different states).
I am having the same issue. There are a couple of things I have tried. The most promising is to turn off Google hotword detection on every screen.
You can also try turning off the Privacy Keeper and Voice Enhancement in Call Settings. If any of this works for you, or you find and answer, let me know!

Having the same issue with 2 lines, same LG G2 phone. Called Verizon, was told it sounds like a hardware issue. I'm thinking it's something to do with their Android update personally.
Had exact same issue and took phone to repair center. They said it was mic issue. They ended up replacing the entire phone but guess what - issue is still there on new phone.

I've seen this issue on many forums and with the number of people that are having the problem, it has to be either LG flaw or a software issue. I'm trying turning off the ok google, noise cancellation, and privacy keeper. But I'm pretty sure I tried those on the last phone with the same results.
Just to make sure we're all having the same issue, you can be heard once you turn on speakerphone, correct?
Update on this: Still having the issue after disabling ok google hotword..

I read your reply some time ago but didn't answer because I had no answer.
Today the bug appeared again so I turned on speakerphone like you said. Guess what, they could then hear me!
Thanks for the tip @eepyikes, its a good workaround but lets hope for a proper solution.

I've noticed the same problem but the issue goes away when my Pebble isn't actively paired.

-Correction- I hadn't had this issue since I disconnected my Pebble about 10 days back. It came back today when I made a call. What I noticed today is.......
When I switched to the speakerphone the person still couldn't hear me very well. Switching back to mic the problem is still there. But when I turned on my BT headset the audio was fine. Switching back to the phone mic from the BT the problem cleared up.
Did a test call initiating the call on the BT headset and had the same audio problem through BT. Switching back to the phone mic or speakerphone cleared it up.
Initiated another call on the speakerphone. Same audio problem. Switched to BT and it cleared up again. Switched back to the phone mic and it was still fine.
Seems the issue is there when initiating the call on BT, mic or speakerphone but switching from BT to the phone or phone to BT clears it up. I'm on a D801 (TMO) and first noticed this about three weeks back.
Rebooting the phone seemed to clear it up at least for the short term. I just noticed that the Google search app updated on the phone about two/three weeks back. Seems about the same time I started noticing the issue.
I had a backup of Google search 4.1.29 from back in January. Just restored that version and blocked it from updating to see if the issue comes back again.
Interesting to see this is also on the d802. Mine is the VS980.
The 13qcelp trick does not fix it. So tired of this!
Any other tricks out there??
Happened twice in one day. New record for me. Sick of people saying "hello?? Anyone there??? Hello??" until i turn speakers on. With speakers sound is horrible so really annoying! Wonder if issue will happen with AOSP/CM roms.....

Microphone issue on Hangout calls

Anyone else experiencing super low microphone volume when using hangout calls on speakerphone/video calls? The other person i'm calling says they can barely hear me.

yes, very much so. I may have found a weird workaround as this was annoying me for some time. You must leave the call screen up and let the first couple rings happen with speakerphone off. Then switch to speakerphone and do not leave the screen or turn off the call screen until the call is initiated. After that mess that i stumbled upon, i could be heard much better when making a speakerphone call with hangouts. Also, make sure not to cover both the front speakers or the mic in the back. Basically you must hold the phone in your hands as I believe laying it down on either face will obstruct mics.... Obviously a flaw that should be worked out I would hop with software or hangouts updates. I have opened a complaint thread on the google hangouts forums. I suggest you go there and explain that you have the problem too so that it may be looked at a bit more...
Thanks, posted on the Hangout support forum, so one else replied and said they have the same issue as well. Unfortunately though, I can't get your trick to work for me, super low mic volume unless I put my mouth right next to the top speaker grill. Hopefully this gets fixed, I think my wife is tired of seeing my chin during video calls.
I'm experiencing the same problem but with WhatsApp calls. It also happen on normal phone calls where there's no sound coming or going out, have to hang up and try the call again.
Anyone notice the speakers are only good at 100%.. Lower it to 90-80% and I can barely hear them, standing at about 1ft - 1.5ft
No news on this? Renders speaker calls on Hangouts, Viber etc useless.
Also, where on Google Forums did you post?

People tell me I'm hard to hear on a call?

I don't talk a lot on the phone, so it's taken a couple months to find out this issue.... When I'm talking to someone on the phone, I have to hold the phone pressed up against my face and speak a little louder than I normally do.. If I pull it away any at all, people are always saying they can't hear me or I sound really muffled.
I just called my voice mail and left a message, and this is what I've discovered as well. I knew what I said, but had problems understanding myself unless I held it right up to my face and spoke slightly louder than I've had to do with any other phone.
I heard, back in December, this was an issue and was to be fixed on the next update.... I'm now on a M29P (January release) ROM and nothing has changed.
Has anyone found this to be an issue or have you found a work around/fix for this?
I have the same issue.
When I put the phone in my neck so I have my hands free, people tell me I'm very hard to hear, and it's perfect when I hold it in a normal position...
It's quite frustrating, as I sometimes need to have my hands free..
Same here

Same happen here, it's because the noise reduction micro that the nexus 6p has back, check the small hole on the back face of the phone, when you are in a call put your finger there and they will say the same "I cannot hear you well", there are tweaks on the forums, but I have not tested yet, I used to use the speakers instead
If the phone is like 6 inches away they cant hear me, it's a noise cancelling issue, too strict.
Change in build.prop from true to disable noise cancelling.
persist.audio.fluence.voicecall=false
I had this with the very first call I made, but haven't had that complaint since

do this. fixed mine and my mothers problem with calls being muffled
I can't fathom how this is still an issue. I get constant, i mean CONSTANT echo. People stating they hear themselves when they talk to me. I finally downloaded build prop editor as instructed here and edited persist.audio.fluence.voicecall=false as shown here. I have yet to test but it can't possibly get worse than EVERY DAMN CALL not working. Seriously , this is a phone, the tech for calls was perfected only a decade or more ago ?

the issue is still persist even after the June OTA. is there any way we can contact Google or Huawei to fix this issue permanently ?
I really love the phone but this issue is frustrating as it is a basic need in any phone. phone calls must be ok. how it can be fixed without root.
Have the issue here too even after June update. Will be rooting to edit build prop to see if it helps since I'm not sure I'll get much of any help from Huawei's support.
