I had purchased a surround on launch day and within a few days every now and then nobody could hear me. I thought it was a fluke or sim issue but have since ruled this out. Has anyone else had this issue. I also had it replaced and about the same amount of time. About a week or so and now its almost every phone call unless I reboot, which allows it to work a few times before coming back, so I know its not hardware. Should I switch to another device, eg: the lg quantum, or is there a fix Im not aware of?? I love the surround but I have missed some really important phone calls because of this. I will also note my buddy had her surround replaced for same exact reason and she bought hers at a different store all together.
What?
Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
I am going to lean towards a bad manufacture batch. I've had my surround since launch and haven't experienced this issue at all.
When you had it replaced, did you do it at the store you bought it from? Try having ATT ship you a new one. This would pretty much ensure that it's not from the same batch.

i did have it shipped for the replacement and still a no go. I rebooted yesterday and have not had the problem again yet but it is getting truly annoying. Hopefully its just something that goes away as I love my surround
I had this issue once, after about 3 weeks with the phone. Re-booted, and it's been good since (another couple weeks).
Hopefully an isolated incident.
I think I am having the same problem.
It started a couple of days ago.
This is what I am experiencing:
When I make a call, the other side cannot hear me, but I can hear them. Most of the time when I terminate the call, and redial, it works; they can hear me. Some times it takes more than one redial to get it working.
Today I made a discovery; during a call, when they cannot hear me, I plug-in the earphones and voila: they can hear me. The funny thing is that even if I unplug the headphones, the microphones work.
Has anybody else tried this?

Nobody??????
I've had this happen once or twice. It took a complete reboot for the mic to start working again each time. I checked with a decibel meter app and it reported -1dB from the mic while I was having the problem.
I've had that phone replaced since then and I haven't had that on this new one.
I've experienced this problem twice. For both times, battery went critical low while I was calling. And I was not able to get microphone working again until I reset the phone.
I'm not sure if the "battery is critical low" causes this problem.
I've had the same issues with my Surround a couple of times, a reboot always corrects it. My brother just got a Surround last week, and has already had it happen once, a reboot fixed his too. It's funny, he upgraded from the Tilt 2 because of the same issues on that phone, using Android was the only thing I could find to fix the issue on the Tilt 2.
i have the same problem! i try install 2 diferent roms and nothing

I'm using a universal with all the default ROMs. I'm also using PocketPlus and vBar.
For some months after I got the phone (had it since July of last year) I was able to answer calls with it 'closed' (screen not showing) and talk to the person calling me. After a while, this stopped working. It seems that the speaker on the outside doesn't let me hear them, but they can hear me.
I have since tried a hard reset, which didn't seem to cure it.
Note that I can talk to people just fine with the phone in any other position. It works when it's closed (screen showing) and when it's open.
What I'm asking is - is this definitely a hardware problem? Is there anything I can do about it? Has anyone else experienced this?

I noticed that if my JJ is not on when I close the unit, the ear piece won't change from inside to out. Make sure your JJ is on when you close it after answering your call. See if that helps?
L
The device always turns itself on when a call or message comes in, so that's not the issue. What's more, like I said - the other person can hear me but I can't hear them - so the call is indeed connecting.
I have this exact same problem some of the time, but at other times it works fine. Anyone else have this, or know how to solve it?
I am facing the same problem . I have found a "workaround", in my case, during the call, i am opening a little the lead and the sound appears. I think we have to deal with some issues in LCD Coaxial Cable (actually, with the wires related to speaker)...

Grayman, I have the exact issue as yours. What did u find the cause to be?
Anyone else having this issue? This is a straight up legit T-Mobile phone with stock ROM and WM6.5 upgrade. I've noticed that calls through the speaker are now distorted, blue tooth clarity remains fine though.
Hmmm...no one?

Mine after the upgrade sounds fine
I've had the same issue the entire time I've had my Dash. Right out of the box I had distortion and a crackling in the speaker - i thought i might have had a bad connection on that particular phone call. After flashing - about a month agio, it's continued. As frustrating as TMobile makes me at times, I dont want to try to hash it out with them. I might reflash to see if that helps but I'[m afraid it wont

Could be hardware related, if the contacts are dirty or the speaker is not set properly it will crack.. could be a bad batch of devices.. get a new one under warranty if possible. I got three Dash 3G's the first day they came out and all three sound fine.
Finally couldn't take it anymore and took it back to the T-Mobile store. The new one should arrive this week.
Hi Rotagilla, would be interested to hear if the new one had the same loudspeaker distortion. mine does the same thing and has done from new. i just thought it was a crap quality speaker

The replacment phone just got sent back and I'm now on #3. The same issue happened again...calls started off very clear but then seemed to degrade to the point where unless I was using BT, the audio quality was terrible. I'm not upgrading the phone to WM6.5 at this time, I'm going to wait and see if the same thing happens again. BTW, the TMO rep I dealt wth most recently was excellent...really first class all the way.
Looks like the speaker will continue to be a last resort. BT seems the only way to get clear reception. thanks.....i dont like my chances with a replacement from Telstra. The only thing that disappoints me with this one is not being able to edit the menu items and not having the Voice Dialling tags. replacing it with the Voice Command is a quantum leap backward, otherwise a great phone.
Well the most recent replacement has started doing the same thing. I did not upgrade to WM6.5 and this one lasted the longest before giving in to the speaker distortion gremlin. Pretty bummed about this, guess I'll just have to live with it.
Got to say i don't make many phone calls so i have no idea when this issues started but here it is...
When i make a phone call the sound cuts out intermittently. It's almost like someone presses a mute button for half a second or so. So i miss maybe one or two words the caller says. They can hear me fine the whole time the issue is just on my end and it is over speaker and regular calls.
I have restored to factory image and it is the same. On the Three UK network.
Was thinking of maybe trying a different sim card to see if thats any better but it's a pain to test. Has anyone got this issue or got any ideas on what it could be?!

I am from Canada and am experiencing this problem as well. The weird part is, if I make a call through Facebook messenger or skype, it works perfectly fine...so I don't think it's a hardware issue.
Have you figured out a solution to this problem?
I had an issue with my LG G2 where people can't hear me when I call them. If I turn on speakerphone, they can usually hear me then. So I exchanged my G2 for a new one. Same problem now. About every 5th call or so, people can't hear me. It's driving me nuts. Could there be some software that's messing things up? I have google voice installed, and while most of the calls in question are GV calls, not all of them are. Just called someone now from my regular number and they couldn't hear me. Anyone have any tips or even advice on how I can tackle this?
Running latest Android updates and apps always, no root. Verizon. Calls placed from random locations (and even different states).
I am having the same issue. There are a couple of things I have tried. The most promising is to turn off Google hotword detection on every screen.
You can also try turning off the Privacy Keeper and Voice Enhancement in Call Settings. If any of this works for you, or you find and answer, let me know!

Having the same issue with 2 lines, same LG G2 phone. Called Verizon, was told it sounds like a hardware issue. I'm thinking it's something to do with their Android update personally.
Had exact same issue and took phone to repair center. They said it was mic issue. They ended up replacing the entire phone but guess what - issue is still there on new phone.

I've seen this issue on many forums and with the number of people that are having the problem, it has to be either LG flaw or a software issue. I'm trying turning off the ok google, noise cancellation, and privacy keeper. But I'm pretty sure I tried those on the last phone with the same results.
Just to make sure we're all having the same issue, you can be heard once you turn on speakerphone, correct?
Update on this: Still having the issue after disabling ok google hotword..

I read your reply some time ago but didn't answer because I had no answer.
Today the bug appeared again so I turned on speakerphone like you said. Guess what, they could then hear me!
Thanks for the tip @eepyikes, its a good workaround but lets hope for a proper solution.

Any of you with this issue also have a Pebble or other type of smart watch?
I've noticed the same problem but the issue goes away when my Pebble isn't actively paired.

-Correction- I hadn't had this issue since I disconnected my Pebble about 10 days back. It came back today when I made a call. What I noticed today is.......
When I switched to the speakerphone the person still couldn't hear me very well. Switching back to mic the problem is still there. But when I turned on my BT headset the audio was fine. Switching back to the phone mic from the BT the problem cleared up.
Did a test call initiating the call on the BT headset and had the same audio problem through BT. Switching back to the phone mic or speakerphone cleared it up.
Initiated another call on the speakerphone. Same audio problem. Switched to BT and it cleared up again. Switched back to the phone mic and it was still fine.
Seems the issue is there when initiating the call on BT, mic or speakerphone but switching from BT to the phone or phone to BT clears it up. I'm on a D801 (TMO) and first noticed this about three weeks back.
Rebooting the phone seemed to clear it up at least for the short term. I just noticed that the Google search app updated on the phone about two/three weeks back. Seems about the same time I started noticing the issue.
I had a backup of Google search 4.1.29 from back in January. Just restored that version and blocked it from updating to see if the issue comes back again.
Interesting to see this is also on the d802. Mine is the VS980.
The 13qcelp trick does not fix it. So tired of this!
Any other tricks out there??
Happened twice in one day. New record for me. Sick of people saying "hello?? Anyone there??? Hello??" until i turn speakers on. With speakers sound is horrible so really annoying! Wonder if issue will happen with AOSP/CM roms.....

My wife and I both updated to Nougat a couple of days ago. Love it overall. We've only had one problem and it's the same one. The microphone on the headphones no longer works on either of our phones. We have looked at every setting we can find to see if somehow there is a toggle that can be changed or something. No luck this far. Are we missing a setting that can fix this? Has anyone else had this problem?
I just noticed this is likely the wrong section for this question. I don't see how to move it. My apologies.

I am having the same problem, I must have factory reset twice and the problem still persists.
I don't think that it is the hardware, I feel it is the software and a nasty bug.
The volume with mine comes and goes and when I am speaking on the phone during speaker mode, they can't hear me.
You are not alone abit that this bug is not affecting a lot of users, but it does exist.

My issue was previous to the update so it has to be a bug with the Android 6.1 os and sound (still happens with 7.0)
This will happen when I am streaming Youtube for more than 10 minutes, the volume will drop while the video is still playing. Then it will come back on within a minute to 30 seconds randomly.
When I am having a phone call using the speaker phone, the volume will drop. The other person on the phone can't hear me but I can hear them.. I have to turn off speaker phone and cradle the phone like a normal person would, thus not able to use the speaker phone.
When I am having a phone call hands free when I am driving using bluetooth, the conversation will start out ok , but then after 3 minutes or so, the other person can't hear me. I can hear them but they cant hear me. I have to turn off bluetooth and cradle the phone.
I hope there is a patch for this or a root being released to that I can flash another rom to get around this nasty bug.
Dear markmain2. 0
Do you have still this issue or solved it?
I have no issue after upgrade. Did you have chance to change the other earpiece or original one.
this has been an issue since the BETA. apparently they don't listen lol. has to be software related, if someone has time they could always revert to MM and see if it works again

Helloo there,
I recently (barely 2 weeks ago, gave in to temptation) upgraded my 6 month old S7 edge to nougat. Couple of days after the update mid-call handsfree mic goes MIA.
Switched headsets having intermittent mic outage again.
Did you manage to sort it out ??
Any help would be much appreciated. My work involves being on the phone 7-8 hours a day and I need to be handsfree ona wired headset.
Just cant be done without.
