Sorry for the long post btw, but here is my review of the HTC One for those who are interested
Just going to add my review, I have had the phone since Friday afternoon and it is now Tuesday afternoon.
I am coming from a HTC Sensation which I’ve had since launch so it was being to feel old, battery get rubbish etc... I have had a HTC for the past 5 years, so yes I am a bit of a HTC fan boy, but I’ll try be as honest as possible. (I was quite willing to go to the s4 if they improved things but they didn’t)
Build quality and physical features:
Firstly like everyone has said, the build quality and feel of the phone is amazing! Better than the iPhone. It is light but it isn’t too light
If that makes sense, it heavy enough to make it feel premium. It looks gorgeous feels gorgeous and is gorgeous. I don’t find it slippery in my hand, however when it’s in your pocket because of its height and smooth back I do feel abit uneasy about it slipping out when you’re sitting down.
I think the size is perfect for me, but that’s personal preference. The volume buttons are nice, in the right place, feel good and easy to press. The
The micro usb is on the button , which is a plus for me to put into my android dock, but is much more to the right hand side, would of been nice for it to be more central but I’m being picky.
The power button is flush and smooth, and far to over the left hand device to me making it awkward if you have small hands (luckily I don’t) however I am totally used to it now so it doesn’t bother me anymore.
The button layout I actually love now I am used to it. Android phones only need 2 buttons, and long as you remember the double tap or hold down home shortcuts you will be fine. You get used to it way to quick, so much that I used my sensation the other day and kept pressing the wrong buttons on it.
Battery: (using auto brightness, power save off, WI fi on mostly.)
Ok so I wasn’t expecting much until I started reading the reviews of people saying it’s awesome. It isn’t awesome, it’s ok. Through a work day with light usage I get from 100% to about 80%, which is more than anyone else. Though saying that it seems most of my battery is trying to find mobile signal (I get crap signal for every network at work) so I’m trying to go aeroplane mode as no point searching for signal that isn’t there, I’ll keep you all updated on how this works out.
Then when I get home I whack out the games, do bit browsing, check Facebook, text all night etc… and it does drop quickly. Both nights I have gone from 80% to 0% in about 5/6 hours with heavy usage. Which tbf isn’t bad, but it’s not great.
Point to add, I’m still messing about with settings and apps, and I do find myself just turning my phone on to play with it , so I’m expecting the battery life to improve when I stop being a little kid . I have also drained it fully and fully charged it 4 times.
For example useage today, my brightness is at lowest it will go, wifi off, radio on, its been on for about 6 hours, about 30 mins screen on, and i have been playing music for about 10 minutes on full volume, my battery is at 79%.
Sense 5:
Very very nice, big improvement over 4 I feel. Nice and clean, simple to use and lots of nice little features, as well as some annoying ones.
I like the icons, I love the message app, it allows you to change theme of how the texts set out, so for example texts sent by you show up one colour, by the other person another, and then a different background. It’s just the little things like that that make a difference. Settings are similar to 4 so nothing to go on about there.
Blink feed is handy, but more a gimmick I feel, they need to greatly improve the sources because all I see at the minute is my Facebook newsfeed which annoys me slightly. But it has potential.
I like when you unlock the screen it goes to where you were last. And the lock screen is very nice and simple. It does annoy me how the preview texts come up though, at the bottom but only 2 lines of it, not like sense 4 when you got the bubble in the middle.
The thing that annoys me is with no menu button you can’t quickly change your wallpaper or go into settings etc... You have to drag down the notification bar and go to settings. When in an app and pressing home button, you go back to the app draw and not the home screen, that annoys me, but is useful every 1/10 times you press it! I would have also liked a quick settings bar but I have an app to do that anyway.
These are all little niggle bits which most of you won’t mind about, and can be resolved with rooting/little software tweaks by htc.
Screen:
Nothing more to say than amazing. Best screen I have seen on a smartphone hand down, viewing angles, colours etc... all brilliant. And the right size
Camera:
I haven’t had a massive play with the camera but what I have I have been impressed. There is virtually no shutter lag which is brilliant (big thing coming from sensation) you press the button it takes a picture, and keep pressing it, it keeps taking pictures. The quality in low light is amazing; you can just see on the screen how much light it is picking up.
The video quality is great and that extra microphone does make a difference to sound quality, there is a lack of bass however but it is crystal clear. Can also take pics while videoing which is handy?
The amount of options to edit your photo is ridiculous; I think I will need a year with the phone to work out all of them! Unsure whether this is a good thing or bad, after all if it’s there but not used, what’s the point? But it is nice you have the option.
Boom sound:
This is the one feature that is literally drawing dropping; the sound that comes out of this phone is amazing. Out of the people I’ve shown they have all been amazed and said wow that is so loud and clear for a phone. The need for those little crappy portable speakers is gone, it still can’t replace a good dock but it comes close.
This is also makes a huge difference when playing games and apps etc... the sound quality and loudness makes it just that much more enjoyable!
Although please note, you will never miss an alarm again! They do need to lower the volume a bit to compensate for the loudness, as stupid as that sounds.
Other:
The processor is amazing and lag free. However it does heat up, not as much as my sensation does when put under heavy load, but it’s noticeable. Plus side is it will make a lovely hand warmer in those cold months, downside I’m guessing the heat with affect battery life.
HTC ONE Vs. Sony Xperia Z
Luckily my brother decided to buy the sony xz the day before I got my one, and I got the chance to compare the phones (sorry no pics or videos didn’t have the time)
I have to say the htc one was better, in my opinion in most ways, it felt better, looked better, nicer screen, better viewing angles, better camera (only tested at a restaurant in low light though).
The only thing I prefer about the sony was the fact the power button was on the side, which made it very easy to press.
Closing thoughts:
The HTC One is no doubt the best phone on the market at the minute in my opinion. It has pretty much everything you want from a phone. It can be improved, of course it can, but HTC are onto a winner here. Everybody who has seen/heard it has said wow that is a nice phone, how much is that etc… Obviously we can’t compare it fully to the s4 yet, which will be its biggest rival, but I think the 2 phones will have different audiences. The question is, will this phone withstand the test of time with key lime pie looking to be released and maybe a nexus 5, we will see!
Please leave your opinions/comments, but note this is my personal view but I welcome a healthy debate on the subject! I hope this helps those who are looking at buying this phone.
UPDATE 21/3
Ok some now ive had the phone nearly a week i have some things to add.
Firstly anybody worrying about the notification LED, dont , it is bar far brightest i have had on any phone (including htc sensation and desire) it might be smaller but it is noticeable, when charging it obviously isnt on full brightness, but when you get a notification its easily see able.
2ndly the battery: I was having play and found i was get some wakelock issues from google maps and fb. I turned off google now and have seen a massive improvement in battery life.
Currently today im on 65% , phone has been on for 13 hours, about hour of screen on time. about 30 mins of playing real racing, tiny bit of checking wi fi etc.. Before i would on about 30% . Therefore my opinion has greatly improved over the battery. Can last me 2 days if i really want it too.
On a side note, i am getting my phone exchanged at end of march due to gap (see the thread on gap issue if you want more info) but i am truely happy with this phone now the battery has improved, and im getting used to doing things slightly different way.
Re: My HTC One review
Nice review. Thx
Ur review about the battery is more reliable to me than those who States 6hours sceen on. 6hours for me is only possible if u just leave the phone on desk with screen on untouched lol.
One question. Can you make a call to someone using speaker and see if the other side Can hear u well?
Also any scratches yet? Is it ez to get scratched?
Thanks

Yer i am questioning some of the people who are saying battery is so good, i have always been light on my battery and it is not lasting
as long as my htc sensation. Im trying different things with it atm to see if i can make it last longer, but i mean it still lasts a full day, just about though.
I have been on the phone to a few people and they say the speaker phone is good, not amazing or the best they have heard, but good.
While not on speaker phone people have said its really clear and very little background noise.
No scratches at all yet, ive had no case on it or anything but not a thing, its looks as good as it did on the first day.
The back doesn't smudge at all, and the screen just wipes clear on your shirt.
I hope you have some sunshine to try the screen under direct sunlight
How do you feel the weight of the phone in hand compared to Sensation?
GPS lock is faster too?

We had some the other morning , not alot mind you and i didnt have any problems with viewing the screen, only half brightness, but it wasnt particularly sunny!
GPS lock is much faster than sensation, used to take about 30 seconds on sensation, takes about 5/10 on the one.
Weight wise its feels lighter than the sensation, i have to say as silly as it sounds i think htc have got the weight spot on.
Light enough to hold in and watch film etc.. not too light to feel cheap.
Fair review, nice to read a 'real users' thoughts on the battery, I can only see good things coming for this handset.
I honestly think it'll do the the SGS4 what the SGS3 did to the HTC One X, steal all of it's limelight!

I don't know if this is a subliminal message towards my post but whatever. At the end of today it will be two days with the phone. I am noticing that battery life is decent. Not as great as I was hoping it to be, however yesterday I did use the phone really heavily as I had a day off. Unplugged at 100% battery 11am and it was at like 3% come 9pm. That's pretty good but I was hoping it would last at least another hour or two hours. I did have to put it on power saver mode at 20% so that's a thing to note. As I get used to the phone and it goes through a couple of charges I think I will really be able to tell properly but for now, that is all.

Thanks for the interessting Review !:good:
Thanks for the review. It's always better to hear from the end user instead of web reviews alone. Gives a more balanced opinion. One quest if possible. Any chance you could record loud music maybe from hi Fi or music channel or club to see how sensitive the mic is. You don't have to upload to YouTube. Or if anyone else could test. My One X and Sensation were really poor even though HTC boasted about stereo mic
Once again thanks.

Ive recorded sound coming from my bose sound system and it is very good. Better than any smartphone i have heard, it does restrict the bass abit , but you get clear audio so the sacrifice is worth it.
Im updating original as well since i have a few to add about the battery.
Are you having problems with the back button?

nope, sometimes you have to press the back or home button twice but i think down to just missing the exact spot.
But not having the problems some others have described

The predictive text input is fecking horrendous........only thing I found wrong with the phone....
I think the back and home button issue is down to the small footprint of the actual buttons, i reckon people expect to just be able to hit around the area of the button for it to work when in fact it needs to be more precise.
Good or bad?......up to the user, i think good.

So you're returning it for the gap issue?
This worries me. When I had a Desire HD, the speaker blew. I had to give my phone to Telus so they could send it to HTC to have it repaired. They sent it back and it wasn't fixed at all, so back it went. I had to use an HTC Hero for a month.
When I had my iPhone, I just walked into the apple store and they gave me a new one.
I'm worried I am waiting all this time and I'll get a gapped phone, or what have you.

I thought I saw in a review that the keyboard was way better than any previous HTC phone. It wasn't bad at all on my HTC Desire HD. How bad could it be now?!

I cant comment on the keyboard as i just installed swift key as i used it on my own phone and cant go wrong with it.
Yup getting it exchanged, but tbf most people seem to have a gap, so im hoping just because its the first batch, and things will improve.
But yer im not worried about the gap now, but to me it what can happen in 6 months time, with use etc.. it will probably expand and
cause problems, so best to get it sorted now.
I did send a pic to htc and they told me to get it exchanged.
Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Things I love so far from my hands on experience. The more squared corners. I feel the note should be almost flat and I feel they met that. The size of the screen. 6gb ram. Water proof. Even more refined S pen and the new features. Of course the Qhd Oled screen.

No physical home button. Taller than Note 5. Narrow screen.
Played with it at the store and honestly don't like it. If Nokia 8 or Oneplus 5 included a real wacom pen (a k a S-Pen) I would jump ship.

I'm not a fan of the skinny phone trend either. I had the Note 7 for close to 2 months and I've spent some time playing around with the s8+ while anticipating the arrival of the Note 8. I haven't seen the Note 8 in person yet, but based on the screen ratio I'm going to be disappointed just like I was with the Note 7. I preordered on day 1 because I love Note phones, but it's definitely not the ideal phone. If they had made the phone ratio 16:9 based on the current height, they could've fit a larger battery in it. I'm not asking for a huge phone, maybe as wide as the Note 3, 4, or 5. They seem to be trying to make it a one-handed phone for people with small hands, when in reality it's meant to be a 2-handed phone to begin with. I had problems launching apps in pop-up window on the Note 7. The S-pen couldn't find the starting point with the curved screen. Anyway, the skinny phone with the curved edge just makes the screen way too narrow.
I hear some of the complaints from people who haven't physically played with it, which I can't understand. I've actually played with this phone and I must say this is one gorgeous device! The new S-pen features are awesome! Camera, display and overall design is amazing! I love Samsung because they continue to impress me Note after Note after Note. I've owned every one and they just keep getting better and better. There is things that I wish they would add like a bigger battery and stereo speakers but you can't have it all, overall I am satisfied.
(deleted)
I say, keep the current height and stretch the width to 16x9. Huge screen, more battery. Just like the Note SHOULD be.
I am not so much concerned about a "thin" phone, but a phone that is comfortable to hold. The race for the thinnest phone is crazy, I mean the end of the road is having a chip implanted under your skin, which some companies are already doing.
I am more of less concerned that the battery is too small for this phone and the lack of a 128 or 256gb model + the card slot. Second would be the screen protector issue with the curved screens.
I have big hands and can operate my current Note 4 without problems. I hope my Note 8 (when it arrives) is just as big.
I got mine yesterday and so far I'm loving it. I had an S8+ but it was worth the upgrade. (I have T-Mobile's JOD).
Cheers!
Not as big as I feared
I have really small hands, and I was afraid the phone would be too hard to hold but I haven't felt that way. I've had it three days, lot of setting it up, tweaking it, etc. It's a two handed phone. I generally use the iris scanner which is faster than on the Note 7, so the placement of the fingerprint sensor doesn't bother me as much as it might. It's a beautiful phone, a pleasure to look at things on, and has some really cool little tricks--I can't express how great it is to pair up my budget program and the calculator and have them both up at the same time in a really convenient form.. I've only played a little with the camera but it did a great job of capturing a still image of my two year old grandson who rarely stops moving, without any blur, and the video I took came out really clear and focused on him. The battery life is so-so so far, but it's gotten a work out, during the setting up. I think it's a great phone, and I am definitely falling in love..
Overall.... EXCELLENT phone. However, Hate that the nav bar isn't customizable. Full Screen apps don't have translucent background... This really sucks for me

Smaller battery, but an added spen. The note used to be different from the s series. I think Samsung f'd up this time.
Um, why do all the previous videos and reviews I've seen not mention how far Bixby actually controls the phone? It destroys Siri and GA. I'm blown away once I was shown this. Yea, it does all that typical question stuff pretty normally, nothing special and not as good as Google. But what you can chain together and control on the phone blew me away. I actually get having this and Google going at once, which seemed like a typical samsung waste to me when I picked this up. Probably not news for you coming from S8 etc.
By reviews I mean these Siri vs Google vs Bixby videos where they just ask them the king of France or to rap for them or tell a horrible joke. Why not show that you can control the entire phone by voice haha.

Writing this from a Note 8 now. Upgraded from a Note 4 that was on its last legs. The screen is the same width, just taller. I can put a TPU case in it and it's the same width as the Note 4 in hand. The aspect ratio doesn't effect the screen width, just the height. There is a very small area on the edges of the screen that would be hard to write on, but if you liked the Note 4 you'll LOVE this phone. I certainly do.

All I want now is root so I can get Adaway on this thing. I had NO IDEA how many ads were on the internet! Lol. Haven't seen them in years. It's friggin' ridiculous.
Let me suggest using Seven AdClear. Free. Uses a local on your phone VPN to block ads from everything. It's wonderful. Google search, it's blocked on the Play store.

I can't get bixby to do ****. If I say send text message to Joe, it won't open up a text screen. If I say call joe it won't do it. I can't figure out what it can do. And it doesn't want to use Verizon's message app. It wants to use Samsung's. Google doesn't care what you use.

How is that on battery? I've used local vpn ad blockers before, and they seem to be battery killers.
The only reasons that I still want root is to install an ad blocker and to be able to work out and kill stupid wakelocks. If I could find a way to do these without root, then this would be perfect.
I've had mine since 9-07. I still have my Note 7. Wow. Incredible screen clarity, Screen scrolls are smooth as glass, and this thing is fast.
It keeps growing on me and I haven't even put a sim in it yet. Case and screen protectors come tomorrow than out with the 7 and in with the Grrrrr 8.

May be it's due to pie upgradation or honor device but it requires too much permissions for any app

I think you should buy global version because features are much impressive but I am facing notification issues in Chinese rom which is very annoying for me and I am thinking to switch
Otherwise phone is good for camera, performance, battery timing
The phone looks stunning, most beautiful phone I've ever seen. Camera is amazing, tho I haven't got a clue on how to use most of its functions and there is no tutorial either which sucks. Having the Global Model was a surprisingly disappointing buying experience since it did not come with headphones nor back cover so I had to buy one. The icons are very large as is text. That was also surprising, as I'm used to small icons and text. Despite changing both to the smallest possible it's still huge.

It is worthy my money¿
I think the phone is great (5 stars) but I will give it 1 star because it's been out for 6 months and even after contacting Huawei through various means including twitter, Huawei can't/doesn't care about fixing the f*ing weather app so that my town is found in the search.
All phones I have ever used can find Guildford, England, including all other Huawei phones but this one doesn't.
It's 6 months to fix a bug that would probably take 5 minutes if anyone bothered so f*** off Huawei you are too arrogant to ever get my money again.
my current phone is honor 10, i love it very much, so for my next phone i will also choose honor, honor 20 should be much better.
Surprising Phone
I got mine as part of a downsizing of my contract costs, so this cost me £20pm for a 24month contract.
For the money, it simply is incredible. Considering the phone launched at £579 (I got the 8/256GB model) the drop in price to get a 2GB/Unlimited everything else contract for less TCO than the RRP is pretty great.
The screen is bright and somehow better in sunlight than my old S8 despite the latter officially having a much better sunlight contrast. The phone performs great with a 300k+ AntuTu score, and no apps phase the thing. With a bit of work getting a consistent dark theme helps a great deal too in terms of usability and the UI feels fine to sue although I instantly switched to the familiarity of the Microsoft Launcher.
The main camera is so much better than I expected for a budget flagship. The AI Ultra Clarity mode is stunning when used outdoors. Need to test video mode but compared to the S8 the main camera is a massive step up. The selfie camera is average but I'm not too worried about that.
Overall, yes you lack stuff like a periscope zoom camera and wide angle, but considering a S10e would cost me £200 more TCO, come with 128GB less storage? It isn't enough of an upgrade to justify the expense, despite the AMOLED screen being undeniably better. Design wise, the View 20 is more than a match and the back pattern on the Phantom Blue is amazing.
Overall, so far, so good.

Thanks for posting this! I deleted data and cache of the Weather app and now the phone can find Guildford! I guess I should have tried this earlier. I am still annoyed that nobody from Huawei tried to help me with this problem.

Yeah, they should've helped a lot sooner especially for what could've been a simple fix to get back to you with. Customer Service really is important and this is a big failing frankly.
Hello if anyone here does not play the Game Fortnite but uses this phone, please contact me at [email protected] there is an exclusive in game cosmetic with the phone to claim for free and i would like it!
If anyone has this phone and does not play fortnite I would appreciate it if you could send me the code that comes with the phone to unlock a skin in game for fortnite. I would really appreciate it if you could email me the code at [email protected] since I want the Honor 20, but cannot afford it at the moment and would like the fortnite skin at least for now.

How can you have bought a phone that has not even been announced yet? It's not even schedule to come out until mid to late October. I think you might be confused.

Do you mean the Pixel 4 XL? But it's said that Google will launch its Pixel 4 series in October later this year.
here are my impressions of the phone - i only have it two days so opinion might change.
Pros
Camera fantastic as always - posted some samples in the other thread
Build quality feels like a premium device. love the way it feels - i still use the fabric case though
Display is amazing, smooth, colors vibrant, had no issues in the direct sunlight.
Very fast, it's the first phone where i didn't change animations to .5 - i kept it in default
its charging pretty fast
Speakers are definitely loud but the device doesn't vibrate like P3 used to
Assistant is for sure smarter and faster
Cons
its heavy and hard to handle at times - please note i use the fabric case so it added some weight to it
Motion sense to me is more of a gimmick and so far i found a bug, for example i am at the gym and i want to skip the song, it actually just replays the current song, hopefully this is an isolated issue
Battery life not so great i get around 6-7 hours of SOT but fb and instagram were draining my battery - i restricted them now
Notifications preview. So they are not present at least with the face unlock on. what i mean by it is this - the phone is next to me and i receive an email or a message. which means i can't double tap in order to see it, i have to pick up the device, unlock it then decide to act on it. I would prefer a double tap and being able to see a message, but that's just me.

I thought there was an option, using soli. If you brought your hand over the device, it would light the screen up and then when you took your hand away it would turn back off. Kind of like Ambient on demand

Great review. Mine just showed up today but I refuse to use it until the case gets here tomorrow. I actually love the weight. It feels like a quality piece of equipment. So far the only thing I've done with it is dropped it on my wireless charger to top off the battery. I haven't even turned it on yet, but I'm a bit concerned. It's been on my dock for about 5 hours and has only gone from 64% to 94%. I know they don't fast charge unless its a Pixel stand, but holy crap.

After finally getting it set up and a couple hours a play on it. I tossed it back on my cheap wireless charger and it said 45 minutes from 82% to full. I guess it charges faster when it's on than it does when it's off.
I must say.... This phone looks much better in person & the back feel is awesome. My very 1st thought was how the camera module looks smaller then anticipated in regards to the phone size and it's way nicer in person... time to set this thing up!!!

I thought something was wrong with it too. It looks like they did it backwards... Swiping my hand to the right skips back to the beginning, twice to a prior song. Swipe to the left skips to the next song. No idea why they would have done that. We should definitely send feedback on it.
Also, I do agree it's pretty gimmicky, however, I still think it's kind of cool. I haven't figured out the notifications piece, but if it works like they say, it will be great considering the face unlock thing you mentioned. That annoys me too.
I wonder what all applications for this Google had in mind when they made this? It'd be cool to know what they have in store for it. Putting all that stuff in the forehead just for swiping songs and whatever seems pretty lame to me.

It's because it mimicks swiping on the phone. It's as if you're swiping an album cover on the right (next track) over to the screen to play. That's how I see it at least. No different than how you scroll down by swiping up. Isn't there a setting to flip the gestures though?

One thing is for sure. This phone is getting a lot of hate from the reviews.. I really don't understand why.
Yes it doesn't have a wide angle camera (I'll post a pic bellow). For me it's wide enough.
Battery life is not stellar but it's manageable. I just top it off in a middle of the day and it's good to go

Yeah those reviews are dumb. But they get paid to be critical. Every phone has it's flaw. I could care less for a wide angle lens. That's the only thing someone can complain about because aside from that this is top notch.
Love mine. This charger works pretty fast and it's cheap. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RRV24J7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

it's what mi9 should have been, in everything except the CPU. It's too bad they used 710 instead of 712 due to the mi9 se. However, the cc9 is still probably the most "well rounded" package from the entire xiaomi line. High quality, great design, great cameras front and back, large battery, light weight, OLED, etc. Just love it. It's something I wanted out of a Mi9 but was let down with that battery. wish there's going to be more community support though, which looks a bit thin right now.

Absolutely, completely ditto. The only thing holding this phone back is the lacking developer community behind it. Even so, the only thing that's keeping me from using the excellent Android 10 GSI linked in the guides is the lackluster camera performances. Honestly, that wouldn't have been a problem if I still had my Whyred since that phone's camera was "meh" at best, but not enjoying this camera to the fullest feels like a sin!
I'm liking mine a lot, screen is nice, as is the fingerprint scanner. Photos are fine, now that I've removed the watermark. Seriously, who WANTS to brand their photos with a manufacturer's watermark?
I can even cope with the notch, which did concern me. The IR blaster is a nice thing, but would be a lot better if it had an Xbox media remote profile added.
I've ones minor irritation. And it's really bothering me. There's a chime that sounds every now and then that I can't switch off. It's a descending sequence of beeps, like when a usb stick is unplugged.
No visual notification, but it can happen in quick succession, and even happens when watching something on Netflix over bluetooth headphones.
It usually comes when the screen is switched on.
Any ideas? Is there a system log file for audio?
Sorted it! It was the NFC talking to my debit cards. NFC off, and annoying MIUI chime noise gone.
Now to figure out Google pay.
That's odd. No equaliser when using Bluetooth ear buds.
Any workarounds? I could do with a bit more bass on the t-elf buds.
Or, do I need to get into ROMs? Haven't flashed a phone in years!

What is ”the notch”? Do you have protective glass? I'm worried that fingerprint scanner won't work well over protective glass... How's MIUI 11? Does Revolut work on this phone?

I'm not saying that there won't be a development community to back this phone. I'm saying that right now this phone doesn't have the support that other Xiaomi devices, like the RN5 or RN7, have.
I'm sure that, as time goes on, the community will get up to speed. In the mean time, @gringo80 has been mantaining a functional and frequently updated build of LineageOS, and even if that isn't your ROM of choice most GSIs works very well.
The notch is the "cut out" for the front facing camera.
I've a glass screen protector on the front, and the fingerprint scanner still works, but I think that is not as good as it was without the protector. I'm not taking it off, mind, as my phones have a hard life.

Seems that screen protector is slowing response of scanner a little. However when I had added fingerprints again with protector in place seems fine again. Maybe split-second difference

Im on MIUI 11 currently and i have no problem getting 3 days uptime and 10h SOT, dont think it's too bad for 4000mAh battery.
The phone arrives today.
I was googleing, trying to find way to root phone without unlocking bootloader. can anyone pplease help, post a link to a thread or anything. I will unlock bootloader but getting approved is a process and i want to root in right out of the box.
If rooted and with unlocked bootloader, can anyone confirm that Revolut works or doesn't work?
Wish you all the best in a New Year.

Good for you. I'm really disappointed about the battery life.
Hi all,
Coming from Samsung S and Note lines, I decided to move because the flagships are now so expensive.
So I looked for a similar device. My main points were :
- Affordable
- Gorilla glass 5 at least
- Amoled
- Metal frame
- Non mediatek chipset
- Good battery life
- Recent
I had not a large choice according to the availability in the country (Madagascar). Official resellers prices are too high so I had to manage with some unofficial business which have not so much stocks.
A lot of Xiaomi available but not enough for me : mediatek chipset, gorilla 3 one side, plastic frame and back... Until I saw a Mi 9 Lite ad, and after having check the specs, that was what I looked for, matching my needs.
So here I am... Bought the 02/06/2020
Good packaging, but it misses headset.
I loooove it so much
Welcome to Xiaomi family!
I bought a Mi 9 Lite earlier this month when my veteran Oneplus X finally vibrated itself off the kitchen counter and its mortal coil after enduring ~4 years of abuse. As someone who doesn't care about all the bells and whistles and just wants a solid phone that won't break the bank, here is my mini review:
1) Design and build quality: Top notch. If I was handed this phone without any prior knowledge and told it costs 700€, I wouldn't question it for a second. Every single other phone I've found in this price range has an ugly chin bezel and plastic frame/back. The phone industry had pretty much abandoned plastic in favor of more premium materials on all but the cheapest phones, but for some reason plastic became acceptable again early last year. Glad to see Xiaomi sticking to aluminium and glass on its midrangers.
2) The screen is just stunning. It's sharp, color accurate and immersive with relatively tiny bezels. I'd pretty much sworn off LCDs after my first AMOLED phone, and I'm glad I didn't compromise this time either. The advantages are too great compared to the shortcomings of the technology.
3) The hardware: 6GB RAM is pretty hard to find on most midrange phones, let alone those that cost less than 250€. I'm not into mobile gaming so I've never really pushed the CPU and GPU to its limits, but for day to day use the Snapdragon 710 is absolutely powerful enough. Everything from web browsing to scrolling through social media or watching videos feels snappy and stutter-free. The battery is massive and I can easily go 2 days without recharging, and when I do need to recharge the battery fills up pretty fast.
4) The camera. I'm not really a shutterbug, so the camera specs aren't a top priority for me when shopping for a smartphone, but the photos seem sharp enough and color representation is fine. Video stabilization leaves a bit to be desired, however.
5) Last but certainly not least, the software. I can't really say I'm a fan of MIUI. Maybe I'm too accustomed to lighter ROMs like Oxygen OS and Lineage OS, but the MIUI interface just feels like it's trying too hard to be IOS. Thankfully the launcher recieved an update recently that brings back the familiar app drawer. Some of the bloatware can be uninstalled, while most of it can't. Also, the ads. Pretty much every preinstalled app serves you ads (fullscreen and banner). I get that ads are fundamental to Xiaomi's business model, and I appreciate that they can be (somewhat) completely removed, but I cringe when I think of all the less tech savvy people using their Xiaomi phones and getting bombarded with ads every time they want to listen to music or watch a video.
All in all, this is a from me. The Mi 9 Lite isn't perfect, but it's better than any other phone at this price point. The only thing holding it slightly back for me is the software, but that's subjective so not something I'm going to knock a star off over. Besides, there's always custom ROMs ?.
