Hi all,
i have the seicane h221l PX30 , and after switching to a custom rom everything works way better than the OEM firmware, however,
i use google maps for navigation, but that is the only app that is very sluggish. i think it needs more resources then there are available,
so my question, do you guys know a good navigation ( may be online / internet connection needed) that is faster then google maps navigation , and preferably free ?

Hi,
I currently have a HTC HD...and run TOMTOM navigation.
I am thinking of a Android phone, and was just wondering what apps there are for navigation? (Apart from google maps)
Do you think this change to Android is worth it?
Thanks for your opinions
J
I use navigon which was £30 for the UK maps and seems very good. The desire also has Google navigation built in which seems good but uses your data connection.
Hope this helps

that would be co-pilot ? I use it too
I've only had experience with Google Navigation. It is pretty user friendly and gets you from A to B. Can't ask for much more.
As point out by lindsaydr, it does use a lot of data. As long as you have a data plan, you should be fine. If not, you should use Wifi to get the driving directions, then use it.
take a look at Sygic and Copilot!
Copilpot and navigon are both good and I have used both on iPhone and Android. I personally prefer navigon as it seems a slick interface

Ta
don't forget about navngo, amigo (motonav)..is workin perfectly on my desire.
Anyone know of a good GPS Application for a car with turn by turn navigation?

Have to disagree
Co-pilot is far better, have used both
Co-pilot maps are more up to date as N-drive uses the same maps as tom tom.
I used to use my tomtom when i travel to spain but now i use co-pilot because of the newer maps.
i also would agree with co pilot live, as it cost me about £23 on winmo, and then i just used the key when i get android, and it still works! Value for money there! Unlike tomtom on winmo, i really did prefer copilot.
Since having it on android i even subscribed to the premiu, features, but there isnt any need you get all the speed cameras for free anyway! just make sure you switch them on..
If i dont have the car, and i am walking around london city i will used google maps with the navigation option for walking.
depends what the specifics are havent used N-drive and i dont have a need to now.
Check Navdroyd, it uses Open Street Map as the map source. Works really well.

welll i had an HD2 before and was using Garmin XT kinda got spoiled by the british voice if anyone can change that, that will be great
In the voice settings you can set all TTS stuff on the phone to UK English (British Accent).
Or you can pay to get I think its called vox tts something like that it has tons of pretty good voices however they all cost money.

Get Co-Pilot, best money ever spent. The map data gets stored on your SD card 1.1GB for North America. The best part is not it does not use wireless data to get maps. It has all the fancy voice options you want.... 4 in british i believe (I use one myself ;-))
I thought the Desire Z with sense downloads the Google maps to the SD like a pre-fetch. Is there something like that for the G2?
I use waze. I like the idea of community generated real time traffic notification - but I suppose the user experience varies depending on your location. Here (Israel) it's quite popular.

Navigon is a new one on the market thats supposed to be good. I haven't tried it personally although I am considering it. Its on sale for $40 for a limited time as an intro price before it kicks up to $60 or something. Has live traffic and a "reality view" which looks kinda like layar.
Anyone actually tried it yet?

The problem with Google and Waze and some of the other "free" options are that they all require a data connection. Unfortunately, when I need GPS the most is in places where cell phone signals are weak/non-existent... I used TomTom for ever on WM.

Google voice navigation is available only in certain countries.
Today i descoverd the most cool app for drivers name simply Waze, you can find out lots of stuf in real time(police, gas stations, trafic jam,accident...) Let's use it in big numbers so we can take care of each other in traffic.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.waze

Thx for the info.:good:
waze is awsome !! I use it often and it's better than any navigation app because it's like a social navigation gps.
You can instantly know why your road is blocked for example.. because users share it.

I've used it before on other phones haven't gotten around to it again, but yeah it's pretty cool.
Especially when someone else on the same road as you is using it and you pass each other, everyone in both cars is looking around to see who else is using waze!
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Waze and Google maps actually share the same information. While Google maps may be missing the social aspect, there's not much else different between the two. Google acquired Waze in June of last year.
Google acquired waze earlier this year and has started integrating waze feature into google maps

Yeah, part of it was buying up the competition but each has something the other needs so it makes sense. Waze has a good framework for gathering live traffic data and stuff like warnings about speed traps and accidents as people report them. They don't have a very efficient way to manage/update map data and their map data isn't as good as Google's. Also they didn't have many advertisers so they weren't making any money.
Google has great map data and connections to advertisers but they didn't have the level of live/social data updates that Waze has.
So Google bought Waze and is able to support the project financially and with map data while gaining better live analysis data about delays and traffic and cops and stuff.
I'm assuming at some point they will become the same thing (either keep Waze and make it "Waze powered by Google" or just roll them all into Google Navigation).
