check copilot live?

copilot live8 or Navigon are both good offline programs...

The best is Ndrive!

Hi, I use Google Maps and Sygic. The best for Android

Have to disagree
Co-pilot is far better, have used both
Co-pilot maps are more up to date as N-drive uses the same maps as tom tom.
I used to use my tomtom when i travel to spain but now i use co-pilot because of the newer maps.

i also would agree with co pilot live, as it cost me about £23 on winmo, and then i just used the key when i get android, and it still works! Value for money there! Unlike tomtom on winmo, i really did prefer copilot.
Since having it on android i even subscribed to the premiu, features, but there isnt any need you get all the speed cameras for free anyway! just make sure you switch them on..
If i dont have the car, and i am walking around london city i will used google maps with the navigation option for walking.
depends what the specifics are havent used N-drive and i dont have a need to now.

Check Navdroyd, it uses Open Street Map as the map source. Works really well.

Navigation

Hi,
I currently have a HTC HD...and run TOMTOM navigation.
I am thinking of a Android phone, and was just wondering what apps there are for navigation? (Apart from google maps)
Do you think this change to Android is worth it?
Thanks for your opinions
J
I use navigon which was £30 for the UK maps and seems very good. The desire also has Google navigation built in which seems good but uses your data connection.
Hope this helps

that would be co-pilot ? I use it too
I've only had experience with Google Navigation. It is pretty user friendly and gets you from A to B. Can't ask for much more.
As point out by lindsaydr, it does use a lot of data. As long as you have a data plan, you should be fine. If not, you should use Wifi to get the driving directions, then use it.
take a look at Sygic and Copilot!
Copilpot and navigon are both good and I have used both on iPhone and Android. I personally prefer navigon as it seems a slick interface

Thanks...navigon looks great.
Do you know if you can get maps for Australia?
I looked on their site, and they have it for iphone, but could not find it for android!
Ta
don't forget about navngo, amigo (motonav)..is workin perfectly on my desire.

Downloadable maps?

I remember at the launch party in London, they mentioned that you could preload maps, which you could then use in case you're in an area where you have no internet access.
They also mentioned that the maps would be free for download.
Does anyone have anymore information on this or how we can download the maps?
I'm sure this is in the user manual...
Open locations, then go menu > upgrade > download maps
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Does the upgrade to Premium also enable the Navigation button in the Car Panel. Mine is greyed out.
Yes, turn by turn nav is chargeable. Anyone seen the news that tomtom maps are coming to the dhd and desire z? Interesting!

I hope you are right Dazultra
The map data is from tomtom who own teleatlas maps. It does not imply the tomtom application is coming to the hd.

Actually the current maps are route66. I didn't say the tomtom app was coming, just that other maps by tomtom are. Was on engadget.

How many maps can we download??
I've read that we are entitle to 3 free maps, is this right?? And that those 3 maps are all taken account your location, 1 is the map from where you are and the other 2 are from two countries near your country. Is this right? if Yes, does it matter where I bought the phone or not?!? If I buy a phone from England I would get a map from England and two other countries near England or do I get a map from Portugal (my location) and two other from countries near Portugal?!=!
Please, someone answer me, cause I really need to decide where I'm going to buy the phone...

I'm in the UK, and the phone came preloaded with UK, Ireland and France maps. I believe you can download any other maps for free, its just the turn-by-turn navigation you pay for.
I'm going back to New Zealand for Xmas and have already downloaded the maps for there.

How much do we pay for the turn-by-turn navigation?
Is it subscription based? Any time limit like X euro for Y days?
Is the turn-by-turn "intelligent" provided by TomTom or HTC Locations?
Yes it is subscription based and the prices vary a lot. You can do it per month, per year, or for life. Traffic and cameras are separate and again, per month or year.
What do you mean by intelligent?

charging for navigation?
what a step backwards...
i swear htc dont want people to buy this phone.
such a shame because i REALLY wanted to get this phone. it seems so good.

You can still use Google Maps or any other mapping app out there. I'm not sure how it's really a step backwards, at least the options there.
The locations app is very nice, but its missing postcode lookup.
Which is really weird for a paid navigation system.

Is there any price list somewhere? I am interested in the "for life" price for WESTERN EUROPE.
At least: Benelux + Germany + France
What I meant with "intelligent" is the navigation app ... the logic behind the turn-by-turn routing. Is it provided by TomTom or HTC?
I meant, if TomTom "only" provide the maps ... that could mean the navigation app is created by HTC.

Western Europe for life is 50 dollars US.
I don't know who does the intelligence. I think the current maps are provided by route 66, and tomtom will be providing alternatives (for a healthy profit I assume!)

welll i had an HD2 before and was using Garmin XT kinda got spoiled by the british voice if anyone can change that, that will be great
In the voice settings you can set all TTS stuff on the phone to UK English (British Accent).
Or you can pay to get I think its called vox tts something like that it has tons of pretty good voices however they all cost money.

Get Co-Pilot, best money ever spent. The map data gets stored on your SD card 1.1GB for North America. The best part is not it does not use wireless data to get maps. It has all the fancy voice options you want.... 4 in british i believe (I use one myself ;-))
I thought the Desire Z with sense downloads the Google maps to the SD like a pre-fetch. Is there something like that for the G2?
I use waze. I like the idea of community generated real time traffic notification - but I suppose the user experience varies depending on your location. Here (Israel) it's quite popular.

Navigon is a new one on the market thats supposed to be good. I haven't tried it personally although I am considering it. Its on sale for $40 for a limited time as an intro price before it kicks up to $60 or something. Has live traffic and a "reality view" which looks kinda like layar.
Anyone actually tried it yet?

looks promising man
The problem with Google and Waze and some of the other "free" options are that they all require a data connection. Unfortunately, when I need GPS the most is in places where cell phone signals are weak/non-existent... I used TomTom for ever on WM.

What is the best GPS program for the Galaxy Tab?

What GSP program do you recommend for the SGT?
I plan to have a good stand alone GPS program that I can use on the road without the need for internet connection.
I believe that the google maps/navigation system requires that you need internet connection.
I like Google maps. I generally use the 3g to load the map and turn off data afterwards it works fine for me. If you search YouTube others have gotten this method to work quite far. The furthest I have tried it is about 100 miles.

Without a doubt the absolute BEST is CoPilot.
I'm in agreement that copilot is the best offline alternative GPS solution.
