Reset to factory settings. Do not install any apps. If it keeps happening, it's a faulty touchscreen that should be replaced.

Do you use original charger? if not, try to change your charger. could be electricity issue.

Wait, is it a bad thing if the touchscreen does random stuff only when you try to use it whilat charging on a different brick?
I use a Sony Xperia Z3 brick to charge the phone more slowly...
I remember it does adjust and then work flawlessly, but honestly I can't say this happens everytime with 100% confidence as I don't really use it while charging.
ONLY while charging, don't know about original brick.

From my own expirience i can safely say, that while charging the touchscreen does react more slowly and it does some random stuff. I would say that it is some isue in device construction as when i tried to meassure voltage on devices metal frame i was able to measure around 600mV on it. I am always using original charger and the same thing was also happening on my previous Mi A1. Also if you are charging a phone and you rub your finger litly on its metal frame you can feel a small vibration (due to the voltage on it.)

I have been encountering a strange problem with every 2.2 flash I have done. After a random amount of time the sensitivity of the touch screen fades away until it becomes completely unresponsive. Then if I lock and unlock the phone it will work again for a while. It seems if I keep doing something on the screen it wont do it, but if I let it sit for a few seconds it happens. Sometimes it starts to act up right after the flash and other times it takes 10-12 hours.
I have had the exact same problem with DL30 and EB01 clean and stock versions. I have disabled and removed voodoo before any changes, I have wiped wiped and wiped again. I even did the D101 odin package then worked forward. I have let it sit unchanged for hours after the flash not letting it update anything same result. Launcher pro Tw, same result.
I guess I am fine with my wonderfully working DL09 Superclean but without getting past this I am at the end of my road for all the development goodies, and I want flash!
Anyone have any ideas??

Going to sound completely random, but are you using an aftermarket charger? Or is this not happening on dl09?

Stock charger and not happening on DL09. It does it really bad (2.2) whenever the charger is plugged in, I have heard this is a known issue. Perhaps somehow related to my problem?
do you run aLogcat or anything like that? I would wonder if there is anything logged by the system when this happens...

I have actually noticed this issue a couple times also, completely annoying. And certain spots on the screen that will go unresponsive, but only certain spots, and if I lock/unlock, it will start working again, REALLY annoying when trying to send a text message.. and its always different parts of the screen.
this dosent help but i have the same problem at least we not alone

Yes, I forgot to mention it happening in certain spots, then eventually the whole screen.
It "seems" to me that the touch screen is prematurely shutting down with the back light still on. Although, sometimes this happens right after I unlock it. Grrr frustrating!

How bad have you had it? bad enough to flash back to eclair or have you been dealing with it? It drove me nuts, I went back. I sure would like to figure it out though!
I believe it has something to do with the charger either being incompatible with the phones hardware or software. I bet the issue disappears the second you disconnect the charger too doesn't it? Mine was doing the same thing. I bought another charger directly from verizon at the store and it resolved my issues. I realized it after hearing a few complaints on the forum. I had an issue like this once before on my Samsung Moment...and it fried my phone.

First I have the charger that came with the phone so I don't think that is the problem. Second I do have the problem much worse when plugged it. But it still persists with it un plugged, to the point of it being un usable.

Yeah for me it ended up being the charger. Dunno, maybe something happened to your port or it got damp and fried something...but I'm telling you, exact same issue happened to me. I couldn't use my phone when it was plugged in. Haptic would go crazy and I couldn't text. Got used to unplugging it when I wanted to send a text. Then after about a week, the issue started happening to the phone after it was unplugged. Took it in and sprint voided my warranty on that one b/c they said I'd fried the port by using an unauthorized charger.

No, re-worded my phrase. It was for me. No idea how or what happend. To this day it bewilders me. It's possible that if the amount of voltage required to run can be tampared with, then who knows what else can be? People fail to understand that phones are no different from computers. You plug a buggy power supply into a main board and it's highly likely things will get fried or damaged. Especially if you start messing with the bios and try to overclock/underclock.
Most logical way I can explain it is by using cars as an example. Different grades of gas are not equal. If you're vehicle needs to run lean and you start filling her up with unleaded, you might get away with it for awhile...but after bit, your engines gonna start knocking.

Not to bash Samsung but sheesh, if they are that fussy, I will probably not buy again.
Only had mine 3 weeks and its broken already. I have been using a desktop charger and have not been forcing it in at all, not once, I have always been very gentle inserting it it, anyway it no longer charges, it looks like the connectors have pushed themselves back so they are not flush anymore and thus no longer connecting to charge or sync.
Not happy about this at all, I had my desktop charger for my HD2 for 18 months with no problems at all, this suggest a very weak connector.
!!! BE CAREFUL !!!
Going to call in at Phones4you and see if they will swap it, I don't hold out much hope though.
Wow bad luck man, but really you don't need the F word to express your frustration.

was it an official desktop charger or 3rd party?
DO a factory reset using code *2767*3855#
(please not this will wipe everything including built in memory, so do backup before you proceed. Backup possible by moving content of internal memory to SD card by copy paste in file manager)
I had a problem when my phone stopped charging after I upgraded firmware, It would also launch Connected to computer screen when it wasnt . Thought its dead.
Did factory reset using this code and its working flawlessly ever since. Seems to be some kind of bug which happens out of nowhere as 2 people I know have experienced this after upgrading to KE2.

I was going to ask exactly the same thing...
I think the OP means that the micro usb receptacle has come away from the board and has been pushed back into the body of the phone. I hope this is not going to turn out to be a common problem as it's something that seemed plague to the Nokia N900 and it took ages for Nokia to acknowledge a design/production fault.
great advice, now it wont boot at all, just goes round in circles....
F**cked.....
anyone got any ideas?
Hi, the charger isnt really the issue, i haven't had any problems inserting the phone into the charger, ie no resistance which suggests to me it was week or loose and has gradually pushed it self back over the last 2 weeks since I have had the charger. If thats the case it would have done this with any charger or cable.
Just spoke to phones4you, they are going to exchange it for me, they didnt even grumble after I told them what happened which I thought was odd, heading off now to pick it up.
Will be interesting to see if your wifi is any better on the new phone stoolzo. Maybe you could let us know. Thanks.

i had this issue when running custom kernels. somehow doesnt happen with stock.
issue happens like this:
u go to bed while charging
u wake up and the phoneis off or very hot with battery and temperature warning
u reboot and it doesnt reboot, doesn't boot, just goes in circle battery display/reboot cause it doesnt seem to charge neither have enough power to boot.
removing battery + cable then putting both back = it boots again and charge normally

Yeah, did all the usual things, I have bricked phones before and always managed to turn them around but we have no CMR to flash anything from ROOT/SD so when it wouldn't boot after a factory reset I knew I was in trouble
The MHL port being loose was the tell tale sign of a fault as I hadn't misused it at all. When I compared it to my new phone I got today it was defo a little further back, just enough to prevent it connecting.
Good old phones4you, fault report to phone exchange in under an hour, impressive.
Just in case the charger had anything to do with this I am going to get rid, dont think it did but I don't want to risk it.
its this one:

So the problem is the following: my nex 4 has suddenly stopped charging..it was 2 days ago.The strange part is that when the system runs i can't charge the phone. It looks like the phone recognizes that i put the usb cable into it,but it shows the no charging sign on the battery history menu point (and the battery is discharging). And the twist is: when the phone is fully off and i put the usb into it it charges normally(white accu on black screen)but as soon as i turn on,it stops.
I did hard reset many times...Im on stock 4.3(unlocked bootloader,no root)
I changed the cable.No progress
I use a converter cause here in Hungary we have a two pin system, but this is nothing cause it has always worked.
Btw,the phone runs normally.
Any ideas?
First,I would like to get a solution, not a "RMA it answer",it would be the last option.

If you have tried a full hard reset then its probably a hardware issue, not a software one. Try a different charger anyways, that could be it. Or like you've said, RMA or if your feeling brave you can open the phone up to see if anything battery related is loose/disconnected

You can try. Ring up google in hungary and see if they will do it. Otherwise you would have to find someone you know in the uk to return it.
One other thing, have you tried charging from a pc, not the mains? You could try that

Hi, I Do think the converter does not meet the specifications, if your device is off it generates just enough power to trigger the charge-regulator in your nexus4 and the phone is charging; if it is switched on, the phone drains so much power from your battery and/or charging unit that there is not enough voltage/mA-Load to switch the charge-regulator in your nexus4 to "On". The power provided by a converter is no sinus wave, it has irregular spikes and waves and this might over the time-being has "weakened" your Nexus- Charger or the charging controller in your phone.. Try another converter/charger combination if possible with a converter with pure sinus-wave output.
By "Hard reset" do you mean a "factory reset"?
I have an issue when the phone temporarily stopped charging, but it was a particular rom.
You can try buying a charging board replacement from ebay: http://www.ebay.com/sch/?_nkw=nexus%204%20usb%20charging%20replacement

Take it in for repair mate, it could be the battery, usb charging port or even your phone. No way we can tell from here. Btw i think the S5 is a great device, you`re just unlucky, it can happen sometimes.

To be sure try to unroot in the TR/superSU app, flash a stock rom and data factory reset.
As the follow up reply above suggests, you need to start by separating software from hardware issues. You can probably find out a lot more information by looking at the system log i.e. run a logcat to get more verbose details about the charging error. Depending on what you find there, you could proceed to steps such as resetting the battery stats or the suggestions that follow in this post.
If you aren't willing to do a logcat then the first thing that you should try is booting to recovery mode and wipe the system cache That may well resolve your issue right there.
If not, then heed the advice in the previous post. Backup anything important to you, then flash a 100% stock ROM, followed by a factory data reset. If that resolves the issue then the cause was almost certainly corrupt system files or settings.
If the problem still remains, then you have to start looking at hardware causes, starting with trying a different cable, different battery, gently rocking the cable in the USB socket at the base of the phone to try and discern if the pins are bent or making irregular contact, etc.
Whether the problem would be repaired free of charge under warranty is uncertain as we don't know yet if the cause is an unexpected failure or something that might be attributed to abuse e.g. dropped phone or damage to the USB port from rough use.
.
Unfortunately, my Mi A1 dropped in water. I put it inside a box with silica for 48h and it come back to life. ( I'm sorry for the bad english, i'm brazilian). However, I have a problem that is bothering me.. when the mi A1 is charging (almost when it is in 85%) the phone starts to bug, sometimes the mesage 'interf sist stopped' appears on the screen, and my phone stops working. Fell minutes later it turn on and work fine but the max battery is 84%.
Could I do someting about it?

I already did it. Nothing different happened.
I wouldn't recommend opening your phone on your own.
The best thing you can do is dont let the temperature of your phone increase. Keep it in rice/silica every night. Don't let it charge over 50%.
Once all the moisture is gone it will work normally again (hopefully).
Even I had the same issue..
Just place Ur phone inside a car then put the car in sunlight.
Let it bake for 3 hrs
Remember to keep the phone off
Hopefully it helps..
It worked for me.

i would open it up and "dissassembly", i mean, disconnect the main components and put it all together in silica/rice or whatever for a deeper drying

Don't do that.
There's moisture in your phone. heat will expand it and it will spread. Keep it at normal temperature and periodically in moisture absorbing material. That's the best thing you can do.
