I jumped on the s10 plus bandwagon right away last year, and since im from germany had to do with the exynos variant. There were quite a few compromises back then. Battery life, standby, performance and camera quality were not up to par with the snapdragon variant. I had a few smartphones since then. Switched sides with the xs max and the 11 pro max, but since i cant quite cope with ios back to android i went. The Pixels are fine, the 4 XL is not that bad as everyone wants us to believe. I am using a 3a XL at the moment, and monthly updates are really something. But samsung came a long way in this regard.
I had a G9750 S10 plus (the snapdragon Hong Kong Variant), and was very fond of it! I really do regret selling it. I just may get the same model again. The S 20 will be too expensive, and i don't feel the need for the features. Even the 3aXL with its 670 Snapdragon is fast enough for me. I miss the samsung features (remappable bixby button was very handy).
The G9750 does not get updates in the same timely fashion as the exynos variant though. That bugs me a little. I won't root, but using adb is not a problem. Im using naptime to enforce doze, and standby time was instantly better on all of my android devices. Is this going to work on the exynos version as well? So much that i could negate the standby problem? How is the camera in the meantime? I don't need gcam. The G9750 took great pictures imho. Performance differences wont bother me, but having a good battery is a must. The 11 pro max was killer in this regard, as is the 3a XL.
I'll probably will get the G9750 again, but having no warranty over here is also something i have to take into consideration.
Or should i get the N9750 (the snapdragon Hong Kong version of the note 10 plus)?? Price difference would be about 150 €, and i would get more ram, faster storage and the s-pen. These really are first world problems...
The reason i m choosing the hong kong version is, that voice over lte and wifi calling work as intended with my provider here in germany (O2).
Thanks for any insight!
Let me shorten the question. For those of you using the exynos S10 since launch. Did it get better (standby, normal battery drain) or is it the same?

Seems still pretty awesome here
Thanks for the reply. Are you seeing bad standby drain, as reported by so many? I was using the exynos version for three months last year, and standby drain was noticable. I was getting through the day though. Oh well. I'll hang on to my 3a XL for a while and look at whats coming our way in the next few months.

No i lose about 6% over 9 hours, getting a solid 9 hours SOT with 20 hours standby. Even today i watched a 1hr downloaded video and 1 hr 40min stream from Netflix still managed 7hr SOT and 10hrs Standby, with some Facebook and game play.
Thanks again for the reply. Everyone talks about the pixel phones being the greatest and sure they are good, but there are so many things i miss. Bixby routines, the remapable bixby button, expandable storage, greater base storage. Logic dictates i wait for a few months until the 20 series drops in price or if it is even worth it.
My phone ia still great till now
Performance and battery
I only heard that the snapdragon version might take better pictures according to some people

What is the typical battery life / performance for Galaxy Note 4 users on this board? And what is the typical life advertised by Samsung, and featured in reviews?
I get about 13-15 hours, with 3 hours screentime on my Korean Note 4 (sm-n910k). But I thought I'd seen reviews boasting near two day usage...six-ten hours screentime.
What is going on then for me? I am BITTERLY disappointed with battery performance: The attached screenshot shows my typical day. Is this normal for you too?
In this screenshot example no calls made during the day, no GPS usage, and almost no apps beyond Gmail and Twitter. I have just a handful of additional apps installed, but the phone does however appear loaded with bloatware.
I took the device to Samsung Service Center in Seoul on the weekend (for a second time) and showed them the problem. It drained 5% from 15 mins of screentime right in front of the engineer.
After resets and reboots engineer said this was normal and that all tests showed the phone to be normal.
Or is it only normal for the Korean variant, but NOT for the international variant?
Help much appreciated!
Mine from Korea too 910L
And I haven't use 3g that day, only play some heavy graphic game 45 minutes and use wifi
Sent from my SM-N910L using XDA Free mobile app
I got both the SM-N910K an the SM-N910C at home, mostly because at first my 910K did not want to enable 4G in my country no matter what (even though it was supposed to be supported) So when we got the local 910c i got one too. It turned out that after a firmware update, my 910K started working in LTE in Brazil normally, i dont know why. But what shocked me was the terrible battery life of the K in comparison to the C. SO i swapped their batteries to see if it was a battery issue but the C kept maintaining amazing battery life. So I rooted the K, replaced the rom with a custom N910S rom that i found online (it works just fine because they are identical) and begun deleting crap that i knew was unneeded because my C didn´t have it and while i am still running some tests it would seem that the battery life of the K has been improving. There are a ton of bundled crap inside the firmware, even the custom one...so hang on to your K, once a decent custom rom comes out of it, it will be a lot better. Mind you, i also compared them a bit and the screen on the K seems better than the C when it comes to color fidelity (the C is a bit warmer), and going thru benchmarks, the K always pulls ahead by a bit. It´s almost as if it was clocked a wee bit higher. Keep digging!
N910H with N910C SweetRom v2
12-15hrs autonomy, 5h30 to 6h of screen on time. 50% WiFi, 50% HSPA+.
Disappointed a bit because I expected an improvement over Note 3 and it's not the case at all.
OP, something is wrong there try a factory reset or a custom ROM. Root and install a wakelock detector to figure out what's happening
Thanks for the feedback. What are others getting in terms of time?
Especially interested in non korean models.
Okay, so here is the gist of things:
I have a Google Nexus LG.
Bought it back in 2013 or 2014 so I've had it for a while
Here in the EU Samsung is finally offering the VR bundle so I got interested in buying it, but there is only 2-3 months before the new iphone is out too.
My question is, is the samsung galaxy 8 worth it?
How good is the battery life? I'm mainly concerned about that because my phones battery dies out rather quick.
The battery life on my Galaxy S8 is great. Caveat, I deleted apps like Facebook (which came preinstalled) and don't use any battery heavy apps except for Snapchat. However, Samsung has a built-in battery optimizer under the name 'Device Maintenance' which works great. Whenever I close Snapchat, it automatically shuts down the background process so it won't leech battery. I get around 8 hours of SOT, and can leave my phone off the plug for at least 24 hours, if not more when used less frequently. One time I left my phone off the charger for 50 hours or so just because I wasn't using it to the max. Very convenient, because I don't have to charge it overnight all the time.
Here are some screens.

One might argue the iPhone has good battery life, but that's because its app environment is limited in that everything has to be optimized. Also, the screen is apparently just now coming into the 1080p OLED world... not very promising. From the render, it also looks like the screen is cut out on the top for the speaker and camera (like the Essential Phone) which just looks tacky IMO. Also, if you're considering about the (exuberant) price, the iPhone will likely come out with a similar starting price. The VR bundle is definitely worth it! Apple is nowhere near that level of VR support, as far as I know.
The Google Nexus 5 was my first Google phone. I used to like it a lot. My Google Pixel XL is at it's box waiting for 8.0 Upgrade Platform. My Samsung Galaxy S8+ is a really good Android phone, great battery life. Sorry but I never got a iPhone and never will get one.

Hey guys im looking for a new phone that isn't harsh on the budget but still delivers (currently using Nexus 5x) and im deciding between the Galaxy S7 Edge and the HTC 10 , the S7 Edge is refurbished 300 pounds and the 10 is brand new 270 pounds . I would like to hear your opinions and is it worth buying , pretty much im looking for a better performance and battery life .
I'm using the s7 edge since 1,5 year. I had never better battery life, and the performance is still in the top of list I think. Before that I was a huge fan of hts one series.
I would definitely recommend. Even after using it for 18 months, i'm still so happy with this. I believe there are many like me.
What kind of screen on time do you get . Im getting max 3 hours screen on with a total time off charger 8 hours on the nexus , my usage is kinda heavy because i like to play games listen to music on spotify and chat , and did you encounter any issues . Also is it easy to root and tinker ?

Yes, exynos is a Samsung fabricate, so it's better more energy efficient. I think it has also a lil bit better performance.

Budgetise, it's a good decision.
I get 5 hours+ on 3g only and 5-7 hours if using on wifi. 5 hours is the bare minimum. I'm on Superman Rom 2.8, Notorious Kernel. Nougut. On stock, it's possible to get 4-5 (or more if you use wifi mostly)hours easily. I use custom rom for features and control. My average battery life is 12-18 hours

Do you have exynos or snapdragon?
Exynos is more energy efficient.
Is seller refurbished and pre-owned by a person basically the same? Because i found a pre-owned model that comes with the headphones , cables , otg and a wall plug thats european standard (which is what i use) and 18 month warranty. The refurbished one comes with a usb cable , sim tool and a micro fiber cloth and 12 month warranty. (The price is the same) Also the pre-owned has pictures and its in excellent condition , the refurbished claims that its in excellent but no pics.

There is no reason to ask which one you should choose.
Check the imei no.-s and look is everything in fine condition. A phone in almost perfect condition can also be refurbished, and when the refurbishing was unauthorised, the warranty is already lost.
Htc software is too bad that it's neither the well known Sense nor Google's AOSP. It is just some **** in between them.
I am using Superman Rom which will give you more control on your performance and optimizations.
My device is Exynos.
Definitely, the s7 edge, for the first i am very satisfied with my purchase.performance wise its ROCKS!!!
my brother has s8+ but not even once have i felt that his phone is better than mine or anything. infact with batman rom sometimes my phone outperforms his
i am not a heavy gamer i just play clash royale on it. my phone usually gets through the day with just 1 charge.
n also also that edge screen is a beauty.makes it stand out.
Excellent phone in the exynos variant. Great performance and battery in stock - even better when modded. On Superman 2.7 and Superstock Kernel 2.9, chuck in greenify and force doze and I can easily go 3 days on moderate use (I estimate 5-8 days based on rate of battery loss, but I'm never game enough to try). No performance sacrificed in my configuration too.
I would say better then the HTC 10 in every way (although that is a very good phone too ) Buy the G935F if you are interested in Customs ROMs etc. Better battery life than the S8, S8+ Note 8 with pretty much the same features - grab the S8 launcher if you want the swipe up to open app drawer. Get an S8 port if you want all of the features of S8 (although i reckon the additional features are kinda useless haha).
I gravitated toward the S7 Edge from your comments and after watching a battery life test video in which the S7 Edge lasted 4 more hours than the 10 and in a heat test in which the htc after 20 mins of real racing 3 got to 45 degrees and the S7 Edge was like a boss on 37 degrees.
It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the LG G7 ThinQ before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
If it beats the 5+ hours I get on my v30 I'll be happy
Just started using mine today on the T-Mobile network. Coming frok the HTC U11, I must say that the battery burns faster than the U11, even with the more power effecient processor. Yes, I know that the screen is bigger.
As most of the YouTube reviews go, it seems like the screen on time will be rather polarizing. I'll follow up in about 2 days with an update.
I am getting about 5h45M SOT on average. Thought the battery would be horrible but quiet happy with it.

I am using G7 plus 6GB version, I could never pass 4:15 minutes SOT so far (have been using High contrast theme to save battery + Greenify, still no help)
Other strange thing is that my phone's RAM consumption is always over 4GB. I wonder how is normal version managing memory? Can anyone please comment on RAM usage too?

That is really strange. I got mine from a service provider called Freedom Mobile and there is not a single piece of bloatware from their part. LG also stopped putting their bloatware on the phone since V30 I believe. I only have 4-5 bloatware from LG (Health app, Radio, Memo, Smart world). As per RAM usage, I have never had an issue. Right now, I am using 2.7 GB out of 4. After reboot, it goes down to 2.2.
Either your service provider has bloated the phone much beyond its capacity or there is some bug with the phone. Which app does the setting show use the most memory? For me, it is Android OS at 1.4 GB, System UI at 243 MB, Android System at 165 MB and Google play services at 157 MB. Everything else is double digit memory usage.

Thanks for sharing information. Your usage seems to be normal but I don't understand why my device's system and system apps are consuming more RAM.
My phone has Qvoice and looks like its LG version of Bixby (a much worse). I think, its only activated for Korean users for now (I pray it never gets out). There are few more starting with Q (is this same Q as in ThinkQ?). I have managed to silence most by not giving any permissions to those. But still I fear apps like these are main culprits, responsible for poor battery life.
I am very happy with the battery so far. Took 6 hours SOT and two days and one night to get it to 20% (on wifi, notifications on but notification screen mostly off). Now I charge once every other day. After reading reviews I didn't expect that to be honest, very pleasant suprise.

I don't have the G7 anymore, but here are my thoughts (G7 vs U11):
1. I found that pictures from the camera were a bit softer than the U11, and double pressing the power button took a bit longer to lauch the camera on the G7 vs the U11.
2. Battery usage seemed a bit higher than my U11, even with the fact that my battery is one year old. My U11 DEFINITELY charged faster than the G7.
3. Screen is nice & bright. Brighter and more vivid than the U11. No disappointment there.
If it were my choice, I would go with the OP6, because it's a new experience & new processor. I'm currently on the Note 8, and I'm loving it...but my wife has the S9, and I can feel the difference with the processor. The SD845 is not MUCH faster...but using the Note 8 feels the same as the U11 in terms of speed. Getting the U11+ is nothing more than a different screen size & fingerprint location. The U11+ is more or less the same phone.

SOT varies, of course, but I think so. I spent a lot less time managing my battery life on the U11.
G7 camera is likely to he better than the OP6 camera, if that matters to you. Maybe not by that much, though.

Very impressed with battery life so far, still have to experiment with power saver mode and lower screen resolution
Here's a SoT question that someone may have an answer to. Since this is an LCD display, the always on display has to light up the full screen to display anything. Shouldn't that count in stats as screen on time? The screen IS on. Yes, at lower power, much like having it set to minimum brightness, (in fact, if I go to min brightness with just white text on black showing, the always on looks brighter!) so why doesn't that show anywhere? If you factor that in, which I believe we should ... this phone beats the pants off anything else I've ever used. My phone sits out with the AOD going all day at work ... which should give me about 8 hours right there.
I know it's different with AMOLEDs, since they don't light up anything not in use. But this is LCD ... on is on is on.
Sometimes i get even 7+ SOT:good:
I'm consider myself not a heavy user and I am getting 4:30 SOT consistently. Auto brightness, cellular data is always on if wifi is not present, Still I'm very pleased with this result. I will test lower resolution at some time.
I'm getting around 5H SOT average, mostly on wifi\cellurar data on but it rather more depends on how bright your keep your screen while in use, overall it last for the day and that's enough for me since I'll probably charge at the end of the day anyway.
Edit: Today I've manged to get over 6 hours SOT, but the phone died quickly from 25% - 3% when I was outside and brightness was 100%, so it all depends on your use and screen brightness.

Can't say I'm very impressed so far, I switched from a snapdragon s10 plus. Stand by battery drain was never a problem on the s10. I would finish the day with at least 50% battery left. Less than 3 hours screen time and I'm at 40%. And that's running at 60 fps, 1080p. Snapdragon was so much more efficient for me.

So far, not too impressed either, getting 5.5 hours of screen on time, with no video watching or gaming. Literally bit of instagram, whatsapp, messenger, camera and spotify. This is at 120hz FHD+.
This will honestly be my my ''normal usage'' but still having removed it from charge at 9.30am and after 12 hours on 20% is a bit sad to some point, specially after those youtube videos with 6.5 hours of screen on time playing games and and filming videos and what not... Hopefully they will get a fix for it, this is UK version with the (not so lovely) Exynos...
Coming from an LG G6 lets say battery wise Im having same performance
For me 6 hours with 120hz, that literally destroys the battery, switching back to 60hz you get 1 - 2 hours more....watching youtube is no issue, but as soon as you get to any scrolling or
multitasking it all goes away.. especially with that 120hz, also it's not very efficient in standby, you can go to sleep with 100 percent and wake up with 93 or something like that..
Hopefully they'll get an update
Not awesome battery life, if I wasn't careful I need to charge twice a day
50% left, 2h33 min screen on. I disconnected charger at 12am, woke up at 7am. Lost 5% during the night with 4g on. I was playing a lot today. Screen at 120hz
It's so unbelievable bad... Damn :/
I'm glad i.ordered the Snapdragon version
This is always the case when buying Samsung flagships early. An update comes out a few months after to address the issue.
Hmm, I have to agree with you. Upon further use, I don't think stand by drain is the issue. It seems to be more app optimisation. Have to give it some time for developers to optimise their apps for this processor.

Don't get me wrong I totally agree with you. There is even speculation that exynos doesn't get the same Sony sensors for the camera. Instead we get Samsung made one's. Totally not cool for sure. I imported a snapdragon s10 last year and it was amazing for battery life profomance. But honestly, I can fully charge this phone in just over an hour. So to say that the shorter battery life is a major problem is just not true imo.

Where did you get your Snapdragon S10 from? I think I'll order from Amazon.com

In Australia. Had the china s10 I believe. Everything worked just fine. Although I believe things are a little more complicated when it comes to 5g.

But honestly, I can fully charge this phone in just over an hour. So to say that the shorter battery life is a major problem is just not true imo.

Unless one is next to the wall everyday or likes carrying a power bank that personally I hate, it certainly is a problem.

I understand, but I haven't come even close to needing to charge the phone during the day yet. I'd say I'm losing about 10 to 15% more battery then I did on the s10 so all good for now.

Yes, "usage pattern". I'm charging twice a day with the +, something that I did years back..
This is the only complaint i have so far, battery life. It is not disturbingly awful, but I usually have to charge it in the late afternoon, so I dont run out of juice in the evening (I am getting 3.5 - 4 hours of screen time). Situation is even less annoying since It charges really fast. I am running optimised battery plan, bluetooth, wifi, data on. Other than that it is a beast, I am fully enjoying android freedom over my iphone X. Battery will probably improve with updates though.
First and first full charge, 120hz all time. Let's see next days.
