Long time running app dies - ZTE Nubia Z17 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I am using an Z17 Android 7.1 as security cam with the app "Alfred security cam".
That's the only app running in foreground but every couple of days it stops running.
I tried to disable every battery optimization in the preferences and I locked the app in the "task manager".
I don't know what else do.
How can I improve the situation ?
Thanks

How do you see which applications are running?

I haven't been able to figure out how to see which applications that are running in the background? Does anyone know the trick?
You need to download a task manager app from the marketplace. The most recent one I found that I like is System Panel Lite.
Regards,
Tom
Thank You!
Look at "settings > applications > services" and "settings > applications > manage applications (filter on running)"
Note that android applications should "sleep" while not shown so a "running" application may not be using any resources other than memory which is released as needed.
Hold down home button will show last 6, as well that's how ya multi task

Wow, I was wondering about the multitasking, I installed ATK and then was advised to not, the battery life lasts longer. Wait, I kind of went off topic here...

There is a lot of confusion about how the android os operates. You do not need a task killer but you do need to be selective about the services and widgets you are using.

Wakelock Detector app (not rooted)

Hi all! I have been experiencing unexplained battery drain with Android OS, Android System and Google Play Services in top 3 along with Screen. I need some app to detect which app/service is causing the Wakelocks so that I can take action. I cannot root due to restrictions on my corporate apps and they will stop working after root, which doesn't help. So I am looking for some app which can show wakelocks when I am not rooted.
Previously on Nexus 5 I had used 'Wakelock Detector' app, which had ADB workaround to make the app work even if your are not rooted. But unfortunately after Marshmallow update it stopped working.

Huawei P8 automatically kills apps

Hi
my P8 automatically kills apps that are running for longer than one hour. For example if I use Google Maps Navigation, or Runkeeper to track my runs.
In settings i have 'Performance' selected in the Power Savings Menu, I added Google Maps, Runkeeper, etc. to the protected apps and i don't have any third party app for battery saving, task killing or something like that. I also locked the app in the app switcher by swiping down on it, so that the lock icon appears.
Nevertheless after running for just over an hour this morning, Runkeeper was killed anyway.
Does anybody have the same problem and knows a solution?
Thanks

Hi, try Settings>serach: optimalization (ignore app optimalisation or something like that) and select what apps you dont want to be killed, maybe it helps

There is no solution. every phone with EMUI works like that. It's intentional to save battery (that's what they say). I heard they fixed it in EMUI 5 (which is closer to stock Android) but P8 is not going to get it. If you really need those apps you have no choice - change your phone.

no true, if you need some app to work in deep sleep, you just have to allow it in manager and disable its optimalization, then it wont be killed
there is an option in settings..called protected apps on or off

It will be killed but after a slightly longer period of time. No app will last more than 3 hours in the memory. That's how EMUI works.

what version of rom are you using? i have Gratitude V5, gmail works during all night, no problem what so ever, messenger works too even if i selected it to be killed and optimized by system, only thing you have to do is to convert it to system app
Stock B382. It's better than on B200 - before it was killing all apps instantly when the screen was off.

That's not true, I have a number of apps that run in the background and don't get killed. Tasker, Light Flow, Doggcatcher, Gmail, K9mail...
I'm on latest Gratitude and was in the Fromfuture ROMs before.

Phone not receiving real time notifications

Hi, I have an OP5 on stock Open Beta 5, I'm currently rooted.
Apps that usually have real time notifications or functions don't seem to work until I manually start them after bootup, or even don't work at all.
For example, my mail app now doesn't give me notifications, rather I would have to open up the app manually and refresh the app to see my mail load. Other apps like a notification mirroring app don't work at all until I launch it once on my phone every restart.
I thought it was like Greenify shutting these processes down but I've uninstalled that since. Any ideas?

Did you reboot and wipe cache? What mods did you use additional? Please give more details about your setup.
You can also exclude apps from battery optimization for keeping this apps awake even when doze kicks in so messages came always through and not only in specific time periods.

Hi, I'm currently rooted with Magisk. I tried excluding the app from battery optimisation and so far it's been working.

Huawi 2018 VPN auto kill

hello guys i need help how to prevent my openvpn to auto stop im my phone.. when i use openvpn and playing online games after a few mins openvpn stop any suggestions how to fix this issue?
huawei y6 2018
ATU-L22
version: 8.0.0.142(c636)
Same problem here
It's not just openvpn.
I tried some other vpn's and nothing lasts.
They keep on closing every time I open another app.
I think it is a problem of the device's latest update (8.0.0.142).
I tried to fix this problem with several options on the developers option, but nothing happens.
And it is "weird" because this update automatically activates the Developers Option.
I'm still looking forward for a solution tho.
Please disable battery optimization for openvpn.
When it's running in background, your phone kills the app automatically to optimize battery consumption.

It's not just VPN apps but other apps too, so you should update your thread title. Anyway, just go to Settings->Battery->Launch and uncheck your VPN app. Next, make sure Auto Start, Secondary Launch and Run in Background are all checked. Also, try using a low graphics setting in your game to reduce ram usage and to reduce the chance of background apps getting killed
Is this
Same as mine. Huawei y6 2018. VPN connected for a few min then it will stop. Any help?

found the solution, though i can't find the direct access to it.
1. go to settings
2. battery
3. click optimize... then you will be redirected to options. you will find the view intensive app.
4. got to intensive app menu then turn off the manage automatically of every app that you wish to stay alive in the background.
i got rid of it now my vpn and other apps stays alive on the background.

Give other protocols a try. OpenVPN e.g. takes some resources that our crappy Chinese phones simply don't have. Right now I'm using Wireguard. The provider's client doesn't work that well, but the official wireguard client works excellent.
Besides that I've installed Shizuku manager and Icebox. With Icebox you can disable any user- or system app without the need for root. I've disabled most of the Huawei ****ty apps to save resources. If you disable optimizing features as well your phone won't force stop apps anymore. Instead of keeping as much RAM free as possible it will be using all RAM availlable. Apps will be more responsive and will only be killed by Android in case of OOM. Your phone's battery charge will last a day easy.
