I'm currently on a work placement and have this task to complete and am under pressure to have it done for Monday!
Would love to get some help with this query if possible. I am looking to automatically transfer files to multiple Micro SD cards across a range of Fire HD 8 tablets.
In the older generations of Fire HD 8 it seemed quite straightforward as there was this option:
/storage/sdcard1/
But in the newer generations, it seems the that a new 8 digit ID code corresponding to a specific SD card shows up, for example:
/storage/E31A-G9G5
I'm looking for a solution where the files will transfer, via Tasker, straight to whatever SD card is mounted without having to give permission individually each time.
My boss doesn't really want to give permissions to anything other than 'Storage' but I have just tried all permissions anyway, and it's still not working. I've added pictures to try and give more detail:
It seems as though once it works on one SD card, the next one doesn't work because it's always looking for the previous SD card (Yellow error messages).
I'm using a Fire HD 8 (8th generation) on Fire OS 6.3.1.2 if that's any help?
The 7th generations were fine as they recognised SD cards generically so we used foldersync.
Thanks in advance!

You don't need to transfer through multiple SD card.
Can you install Total Commander file manager from Google Play and download Total Commander plugins for Android, TotalCmd - Wifi Transfer to transfer all files through Wi-Fi

I'm into photography and I have quite a few books on Kindle that are large. I like to keep them on my transformer so I can view them while away from home. Is there a way to keep the book files on my micro sd card and still access them from the Kindle app?
I also use Zinio and would like to keep the magazine files on the micro sd card too.
Any way I can do this?
What can you use the micro sd card for other than storing music and picture files?
What apps will access the card?
Yes you can. Navigate to the root of your system and find the folder called Kindle. You can drop in as many .mobi as you want and it'll recognize it after you go to setting and force close the app then re-open the kindle app. I just added over 100 books yesterday using this method. I don't know about it working with any other file types other than .mobi
As for accessing the an external SD card with .mobi books I don't know if that's possible. I checked in the kindle app but couldn't find an option for that. Hope that helps!
I assume whatever formats Kindle supports will work, or at least whatever formats you can get out of their store.
A better question is, does the syncing work with books not bought off Amazon; I'd assume a massive no
I was not looking for a way to get them on my TF. I have already downloaded them from Amazon. I want to move them to the micro sd card and still be able to access them from the kindle app.
I don't know if it can be done on the Transformer but... Micro sd formatted as ext4, copy the Kindle folder there. Now in a terminal app write "ln -ls /Removable/microSD/Kindle /sdcard/Kindle"
If it works and I didn't type the paths wrong, it will make a symbolic link to the Kindle folder in the microsd and a link to that inside the tf. Just basic Linuxy fiddling, you can google for that command to check what it does. Always a good idea when dealing with random strangers on the web offering command line help...

I bought my girlfriend a Nook Simple Touch as one of her Christmas gifts. I've got a fair collection (a few hundred titles) of books by some of her favorite authors, some of which I've had to convert using Calibre into epub.
I want to "pre-load" all these books for her on a MicroSD card, so that they'll simply and easily show up for her in the Nook's interface, so she can begin reading from them immediately.
How do I best do this without already activating the Nook myself? Is there a certain directory structure I could create manually on the MicroSD card? Or will the Nook format/prepare the MicroSD card if I put it in and then turn it on, even if the initial B&N setup process hasn't been completed?

Do you have your own NST?
If so, and I'm just guessing here, but you should be able to set it up on your NST and then simply insert the card in the other NST..
I don't. I have a Nook Color. Would that work as well?

A qualified guess would be yes .. the NC and NST software are quite similar as they are both built on the same platform
If you want to make sure, google around for the NC sd card structure and compare it to the NST one.
According to smiller329, just simply putting all the epub files onto the memory card will preload the library for you.
He can't post here himself yet in dev threads as he's a new member. Just passing this on for him
i just preloaded a bunch of epub format files and mines telling me its unsupported any ideas?
Brand new NST owner (have had a NC for a while). Just make sure the paths are the same (it seems). /sdcard/my files/books/ seems to do it (make sure it matches the NST internal media/my files/books/ thing....
I would skip the registration ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15618850&postcount=8 ), put all the books on the sdcard (my files/books), check that it all works, wait until the device autoupdates to 1.1 software and then use the unregister/delete function in the settings menu (take out the sd before doing this).
I am pre loading a shared drop box account so I can add material easily.
"Hey, I got you that book you wanted...just go to the shared book folder in your drop box."

Thank you mali100. Worked wondrously.
All i had to do is copy them to a microsd card.
Insert it in to nook.
Go to library click on My Files
click on Memory Card
then you will see all the contents of the memory card and can pick your epubs from anywhere on the card.
This worked before and after rooting.
Al so when you connect your nook to usb any sdcard in it will show up as a second drive so you can copy them directly with the nook.
I know it's very possible with the root but we don't have one (yet) for 7th gen.
Is any way to move app's cache to the sd-card? My 7 yo daughter loves her new Fire HD 8 very much, same as installing bunch of free games from the store. But internal storage size is too small (even I've installed 128GB sd-card on her tablet) 'cause a lot of games came with a huge caches.
Maybe some shell tricks via adb can do a trick (if permissions allows that)?
You can try this. Skip to part 5. Don't hold your breath though. If it won't work, you'll get an error.
@DragonFire1024, thanks for suggestion but looks like Link2sd requires root
From the app description:
What you need:
Linking apps
- root permission
- second partition on SD card

I'd still try. There are a lot of things on these tablets that should require root and don't. There are a lot of things that tell us what we can't do, and in the last several days, a quite a few of the 'we can'ts' have gone out the window.
OK, please let me (us) know results. I believe there are lot of 7th gen owners will be interested in this hack.

Oh I meant I'd try it if I were you. But that's just me. Who knows...maybe I'll find a script stashed away in this thing that unlocks the SD card. I still have a lot of files to look at and I haven't even torn apart the framework yet. Just glanced at it. There is some interesting things in there.
I'm out of space too, A LOT of apps can't be moved to SD and we can't try any app that force-move/link without root!
16gb can run out fast. i enjoy playing games like the tales series and batman alone takes almost 6gb. theres no root yet and i do wish we were able to use sd cards as internal storage. till the day root comes available tho you can do what i do which is make a backup folder on sd card and inside that make 2 more labelled data and obb, download cache from play store, move just the data to respective folder and when you want to play a certain game just move that data back to internal. its a hassle but its better than always waiting to download data since transferring from sd is alot faster
Hi !
Just ordered an fire hd8 for my 7 years ols. We mainly want to use for movies saved on sd cars (x264 files) and plays some small games while travelling (planes, cars). Besides installing google play is there anything we must do to that tablet for our usage ?
Is there anything to do/install/remove before trying to install play store ?
One thing to watch out for is the size of the files you want to save on the SD card. The 8th gen HD8s don't support exfat (even though the previous generation did), so you can't copy files larger than 4 GB to the card.
Unless you plan to use the SD card as adoptable storage - combining with internal device memory to give it bigger overall storage space.
I don't usually recommend that as you then have to leave that card in permanently. If it gets taken out without preparation, it could mess up the whole system.
Hi, I just got a Fire HD 10 (2021), did the whole Fire toolbox routine on it, and now I have a pretty generic affordable Android tablet with a nice screen and good battery life.
I added a 128 GB microSD card, formatted it as tablet storage instead of portable storage, as I will be using it in this tablet for 99% of the time.
I still wanted more control of whether files go to the internal memory or to the SD card. The storage settings only offer me to batch move all movable apps to SD card as well as moving all movable media files to the SD card.
I want to set it to always download stuff on the SD card and install apps on internal memory. An online guide had some checkboxes in the storage settings regarding what goes on the SD card, but on the newer software, I don't have those options.
More experienced users of Fire HD tablets, please help. Thank you and merry Christmas
Anyone, please?
