Help Removing Carrier customization on inserting sim into factory unlocked device? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

My Samsung Galaxy S8 is the unlocked variant with CSC XEU purchased unlocked from the UK. I purchased a 3 (Three) UK sim only contract and put it into the device and restarted it.
The problem now is that it has changed the default homepage URL to http://mobile.three.co.uk/hb/HutchKey on Google Chrome and also Samsung Internet browser. The reset button is greyed out as shown in the screenshot:

Things I have tried:
Removing the sim card and restarting the device then clearing the app data of Samsung Internet and Google Chrome.
Samsung Internet has successfully reset the default URL to google
Google Chrome is still stuck on the carrier URL: http://mobile.three.co.uk/hb/HutchKey
How do I set clear the carrier URL of Google Chrome and set it as the default?
Thanks.

its the CSC taking over and it seems that its fairly aggressive. Youre going to want to flash a firmware with a multi CSC or just a CSC that doesnt contain the firmware you dont want installed. Firmwares are much like Windows ISO's in that any install disc youve ever had of windows has had Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate all on the same disc and the serial you enter then tells the installation to add the features of whichever version you have available per the serial you have. The same thing applies to the CSC thing. Many firmware iterations have a great deal of CSCs built in so that there isnt really a need of separate firmwares for specific carriers and so forth. If you get a firmware set that doesnt contain your carriers CSC and flash it, the phone should work just fine, just wont be able to install your carriers specific crap you dont want, but it will also not take OTA updates. Youll need to flash those manually. Big flippin deal tho, amirite? Flashing firmware is as easy as scratching ones head IMO.

The strange thing is that my CSC is still showing as XEU which is the unbranded CSC and part of the OXM firmware. It is showing as XEU/XEU/XEU. The problem I noticed is that when I clear data for google chrome, the data still shows as 20kb in size so it is not fully clearing the data whereas in Samsung Internet when I clear data is shows as 0 in size.

its likely rebuilding its repos every time youre clearing it as its calculating its available space. You could try resetting the device without the sim in it and see what it does over wifi only vs when it has the sim in it

[Q] Keyboard and system files problems

Hello, I have recently purchased a Note 3 which is from Hong Kong LTE version SM-N9005 16GB, there are some problems that I am facing with it, firstly the Samsung Keyboard of the device does not work, when I go into settings, into language and input and select settings of Samsung Keyboard error message pops up "Unfortunately, Samsung Keyboard has stopped". Well there is another keyboard that I am using which was there in it that is Samsung Chinese IME but it also has problems with handwriting when I select it during writing anything again the same error message pops up that it has stopped. If I try to disable this keyboard and only the Samsung keyboard is turned on then continuous error messages will start to pop up with 5 sec approx. Well I have performed the clearing of both data and cache but no luck for me and I just can't find out the solution to it, other than these one problem that is also there is that when I select "Language" option in the Language and Input settings under Handwriting Recognition, Settings would stop by giving the same error as above, I think there is some problem with the system files of the Firmware 4.4.2 Official, I was waiting for an Official update to come so that I can fix these problems but no update for Hong Kong till yet, any suggestions?
Thanks.

It's weird that you have the same bootloader and firmware but... You can flash via ODIN this update ( it is the latest for your country in android 4.4.2) and tell me if it worked for ya. GUIDE:
1. Make a backup of your internal data.
2. Reboot in Stock recovery and wipe data/factory reset. Reboot in DOWNLOAD MODE then.
3. Download, unzip and flash via ODIN this firmware HERE.

did you use Debloater or that apps Package Disabler he post on
Package Disabler didn't work for me.
Debloater hides apps fine though.
I just bought package disabler from ospolice aiming to remove that in my case unused video-startscreen.
So far i couldnt remove it but it wont start any app when i click on it leaving me not too happy as i wanted to get rid of that waste of screen-estate.
Any hints on how i could do that with package disabler?
Cheers, red
Ps: Oh, and the small family sqaure icon is also still present on the lower left although it doesnt seem to do anything any more...
Whoopsie, guess I now semi-bricked my t670 through package disabler from ospolice ;(
After disabling all bloat-packages (which did not remove the video-home-screen as mentioned above) I re-enabled some and possibly also disabled a package so that my galaxy view now won't launch the android UI but hangs after the Samsung animation repeatedly showing a warning message 'GUI stopped' (translated meaning).
I can hit 'OK' how often I want, the andoid-UI won't show; luckily, I can still enter ODIN-Flash-Mode by holding Vol-Up and Vol-Down while powering the device on.
The big question for me now is: where do I get the original samsung ROM to re-flash and hopefully unbrick my galaxy view?
EDIT: I've found my countries version on the following sites:
- http://www.mrcrab.net (links to rapidgator)
- https://www.samdownloads.de (requires registration)
- http://www.sammobile.com (requires registration, slow free download (15kbps))
- https://samsung-firmware.org (requires registration)
i wonder which of those is trustworthy? any experiences with any of the mentioned sites?
speedwise: downloads from rapidgator and samdowloads load rather fast in my case (>200kbps), samsung-firmware is capped at 75kbps.
any ideas on this are very welcome!
EDIT2: downloaded ROMs from mrcrab.net, samdownloads.de and samsung-firmware.org, they all yield the same T670UEU1AOJC_T670OXX1AOJC_HOME.tar.md5 with the same md5-hash e3a20cc856904f97f107e5136eed22cf so I guess/hope that they represent the original ROM...
EDIT3: re-flashing via ODIN succeeded but UI did still not come up after a restart so i also wiped data and performed a factory reset. afterwards UI came back and the t670 was of course factory reset. at least my tablet is not semi-bricked any more.
so... i still have to find a way to get rid of that stupid video-home-screen. if anyone succeded please outline what steps were performed.
cheers, red

Get Update from different carrier using SmartSwitch [Canadian]

This guide is for Canadian S6 and S6 edge owners who are with Rogers or Fido since the been waiting for Marshmallow update forever. However, This should work for for others as long as the TWO CARRIERS share the exact phone model, which is the case for all s6 in canadian market.
DO it on your own responsibility
Doing this will not delete your data or trigger knox ... However, its wise to backup with SmartSwitch before attempting so.
1- I assume that you running windows and have latest version of samsung smart switch installed (I tried it on Windows 10)
2- install Fiddler (Its used to capture HTTP traffic and we will use it to be man-in-the-middle between Smartswitch and Samsung servers)
https://www.telerik.com/download/fiddler
3- Install FiddlerScript Editor (we will use to write and edit script rules)
http://www.telerik.com/download/fiddler/fiddlerscript-editor
4- Open Fiddler go to Rules --> customize rules
delete everything and past whats in the txt file in the attachment
5 - In this we are interested in only two functionsin that script
the contact from SMARTSwitch to the Sever: Here instead my phone identify itself as Fido phone "FMC" to the server it pretend its Kodoo phone "KDO"
Code:
static function OnBeforeRequest(oSession: Session) {
if (oSession.uriContains("NF_DownloadBinaryInform")){
oSession.utilReplaceInRequest("FMC", "KDO");
}
}
the contact from the server to SMARTSwitch: Here i get replay from the server for Kodoo phone "KDO" but i pass it to SmartSwitch as Fido phone "FMC"
Code:
static function OnBeforeResponse(oSession: Session) {
if (oSession.uriContains("NF_Download")){
oSession.utilReplaceInResponse("KDO","FMC");
}
}
6- Now safe and restart Fiddler
- Also when you open Fiddler go to File -> Capture traffic
make sure its checked
- Also make sure that fiddler can access HTTPS traffic by going to Tools--> Fiddler options --> HTTPS tab
make sure that 'capture HTTPS connect" and "decrypt https traffic" are both checked
7- Another thing worth mentioning, in Smart Switch > More > Preferences > Software update you have to deactivate Latest software Pre-Download
if you keep that option checked, the download will start in background before you click the update button, and procedure will end in error too;
8- Start SmartSwitch and plug your phone.
9- Click on the Update button
10- after Smart switch is offering the update download, accept the terms of update, then immediately when download start preperation, fidller must be closed. it is very crucial that Fiddler be turned off at just the right time otherwise you will get an error ;
Note: those are the codes for Canadian Carriers:
- Fido: FMC
- Koodo : KDO
-Rogers: RWC
-Bell: BMC
- Wind: GLW
-Telus: TLS
- Virgin: VMC
-Sasktel: BWA
-EastLink: ESK
- Vidéotron: VTR

How do I find out, from which carrier do I have my phone? I am using unlocked Canadian S6 in Czech Republic.
This method worked for me on Rogers Galaxy S6. I am currently running 6.0.1. I used TLS as the update carrier.

If the phone is not rooted, only unlocked... then you should have some apps on the phone from the carrier still. If you are with Rogers, there will be Rogers apps on the phone, if you have a Bell phone then Bell apps... etc, etc

You're right, I have some Rogers applications installed, but disabled.
My Rogers S6 updated quite nicely with this method. I used TLS as the provider in the script attached to the first post.
I had to try this a couple of times to get Fiddler turned off at the right time. Eventually it started downloading the update though and then it all worked great. I just did the update today, but everything seems to be working fine so far.
I used a Windows 10 computer and ran the Fiddler program and Smart Switch by right-clicking and running as administrator. I also used the WINCONFIG button on Fiddler and "enabled all" in that dialog box. Not sure if that is what made the difference. Also, after installing Fiddler and configuring the script with the TLS and RWC changes, I restarted the computer just to make sure all changes took effect properly.
Also updated Smart Switch to the latest version.
Good luck...

We only trick samsung servers that your phone belong to a different carrier thats all, so if the update has new CSC you also get the new one. so when later your own carrier release an update you will still get it over the wifi

Galaxy S5 Full Screen Adverts After Unlocking

Hello all,
I'm having a weird issue with my Galaxy S5. When I unlock the device I occasionally get a full screen advert that needs to be exited via the top left/right cross (seems to vary) or by accessing the advert.
Back in September I rooted my phone, then decided to un-root due to all my banking apps failing (due to detecting the root).
I re-downloaded the firmware (H3G-G900FXXS1CQD1-20170518173124.zip) -sorry, I can't 100% remember where from - and I'm worrying that the firmware might be dodgy?
When the advert shows if I open the task manager on the phone I can see it's an app called "Internet" with the same logo as the "Samsung Internet" app but with a different name.
Is it just the Samsung Internet app advertising to me or could it be something worse?
I've scanned my phone with various anti virus and anti malware products which have found nothing.
Can anyone help at all? Thanks in advance. I'm not allowed to post screenshots yet but have uploaded them ready for when I meet the requirements.
I honestly may not be one who can provide too much help, however from what it sounds is that it's an malasious app that has "infected" your phone or an app that you have downloaded that is causing this (sadly there are many apps like this now adays). What makes me wonder about the first case listed is the fact that it uses the same symbol with a different name. Could you please list the name for me?
Hello there, the app that shows the advert is called "Internet" with the same logo as the actual "Samsung Internet" app.
St first I thought it was maybe Samsung selling themselves out to allow annoying adverts but now I'm not sure.
Any help is appreciated.
Ah, still think I'm unable to post the pictures or send links until I have >10 posts.
Any ideas on the advert issues?
Yay, looks like I can now post links to pictures.
Here is what I am experiencing:
Sorry about the screen filter
I'd download the firmware package again but from sammobile if you didn't grab it from there last time. No full screen or internet adverts should be displaying on a fresh install.
Alternatively, you can use a custom debloated samsung ROM that may work better on your device.
For me that was the AT&T installed remote control app. When I allowed automatic updates at some point the latest version started showing those adds randomly when I unlocked the phone. Once I downgraded and turned off automatic updates the adds stopped.
Hmm, now I'm concerned about where I got the file. I think there is a possibility it might have been from: https://samsung-firmware.org/ which is now blocked by my antivirus with the quote "blocked a suspected bad URL or an unwanted program."... Concerning.
I must also have downloaded from sammobile at some point as when trying to re-download there it added "(1)" to the end of the file, indicating the exact file exists in my downloads folder.
Here is the version of the files by site:
sammobile.com: G900FXXS1CQD1_G900FH3G1CPJ1_H3G.zip
samsung-firmware.org: H3G-G900FXXS1CQD1-20170518173124.zip
Interesting is that the file from samsung-firmware.org is 1KB larger in file size than the one from sammobile.com

Re-downloaded from sammobile but get a "archive is corrupt" error in WinRAR
Odin MD5 checks out though.
Tried to flash with it anyway using Odin and didn't do a wipe before, after the flash my phone was just the exact same state as before, silly question but is that normal if no wipe is done before the flash?

Flash a firmware without wiping will "upgrade" the existing installation. You'll see the android is upgrading animation. After that, everything should be like how it was before.
In your case, a clean flash is highly recommended.

if youre not rooted, youre unlikely hacked. If you have the fear that you have been, factory reset from within the OS, remove any FRP lock, boot to recovery, factory reset in there literally 3 times. The 3 times part isnt because of your situation, its a constant across all galaxy devices to wipe more than once because phone weirdness does occur, reflash tour firmware from sammobile.com/firmwares with the regular CSC, not the HOME_CSC, reboot, set your phone up and any chance of it being hacked are gone.
Thank You
Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer, i cannot get into recovery mode either, since the Oreo 8.0.0 update my phone screen flashs when i get a call and going into recovery mode i release power when samsung shows then the android man comes for a split second then the flashing screen starts and the screen is totally covered with small vertical coloured lines, i found out when i went to wipe the cache partition but couldn't cos of the flashing and coloured screen, this all happened after the ota Oreo update, the flashing was constant at first i couldn't use the phone but now it's just with calls out or in and when the call ends it stops after about 10 seconds, that's why i haven't rooted which i would like to do as the Google and Samsung bloat is ridiculous, we shiuld be given the option, if we want them we can download them but not be forced to have them, but i'm afraid to root to remove them due to the flashing screen,but i think there are internal settings to reset it Thank you for your help
