setwifienabled not allowed - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I've installed an application to make automatic back-up on my NAS through SMB (SMBSync2), which have an option that turn ON wifi automaticaly in order to make synchronization. This option is very interesting for me, as I want to sync during the night, while my phone is on flight mode.
However, each time I have the same issue saying that application was not abble to switch ON wifi. I've contact application creator that indicated me that I can't turn On WIFI on my OnePlus 5 with WIFIManager#setWIFIEnabled() from the app.
Does someone know how to make it work ?

Wifi over 3G

Hey,
I have a seemingly simple problem. I use POP email and I want to check for emails regularly but at home and work I can stay connected to a WiFi network.
I know with Skype I can set the program to use WiFi if available else 3G. Does anyone know if this can be done at a system level so for instance that email and any other apps needing a connection will follow this protocol, please?
Thanks.
Since i do not want to create a new thread (for 2 posts maximum) i will ask here: my phone shows that is connected with the wi-fi (usr9108 router--> access point) BUT when i am trying to sign in to msn, skype open a page in I.E nothing happens, it's like i am not connected to the net.

Most applications will use whatever connection is already on. In your case if you are connected via WiFi then your email will use that connection, if not then it will try to connect by the default GPRS/3G connection setting. I do this all the time.
Okay, yeah sorry.
To clarify I think what I really want is to let the device go into sleep mode and attempt to create a WiFi connection before it attempts to create a 3G data connection.
Other than that, purchasing a cradle and leaving the device in alert mode would be the way forward would it?
Is there a way for WiFi to remain on even if the device is in Sleep mode?
Thanks again.

Oh I see you what you mean. Why not try this schedule an event to wake the device and so long as it was connected to a wireless AP when it went to sleep it will try to reconnect when it wakes then schedule another event after a suitable pause to allow it to find and connect to AP to sync email.
Alternatively try SKSchema or MortScript which are both macro tools to do the above.
Cheers Jazza. Not sure how to 'schedule' an event but I'll do some research into 'SKSchema or MortScript' to see how I can use them.
Thanks for your help.

Auto Connect Wifi

Since I'm not a data user, I would like to rely on Wi-Fi to connect every morning and download data, sync and all the stuff while I'm sleeping.
I'd need an app that opens Wi-Fi and closes it after a certain time. Meanwhile, my today plug-ins would get the news and weather (need something that syncs only once a day at x:xx). Then if possible it could sync with my laptop (if I leave it open) also via Wi-Fi.
Is this all possible?
Try this, use to check e-mail accounts also I use HTC home weather and that updates with the open wifi connection, haven't tried spb insight updating might experiment to see if wifi connection can stay open longer.

Data Disconnect Options

Howdy wise men and women,
Is there any way to prevent the phone from connecting to my service providers data.
I have turned off auto update on weather and email. However, when I wake up in the morning, I look at my phone and the data has been connected for the entire night. I dont know what its connecting to. Maybe facebook updates via the 'people' tab? I do have that synced up....? I cant seem to find any settings there to prevent it from updating automatically....
I have the data disconnect quicklink installed, but that can only be used once I notice it has automatically logged on.
Is there a way I can prevent to phone from logging on unless I actually click through to a function?
Many thanks
Tom
Try using Bandswitcher or other Auto dissconnet apps.

What app tries to call out?

I want to be in control on when phone tries to connect to network via other ways then WiFi. Do not want to get surprise bills, if the phone tries to connect to internet while I am abroad, for example. So I insterted empty prepaid SIM card (has zero balance, so you can't call from it) and just keep it for some time like this.
Data Connection is off
MS Direct push is off
However, phone still tries to reach internet for some reason. I get this "very imformative" message that you can see in attached picture, that informes me about failed attempt to dial out, but it does not tell which app tries to do that.
Very annoying. Any idea how can i figure out which app is calling out?
It is possible that it may be ActiveSync. I do get it connecting to the internet although all e-mail settings are set for manual syncing. I really should look into how to stop it.
A very nice app called NoData stops any program accessing the internet (except via WiFi).
I can't even see where those ActiveSync settings are, where should I look for those? Will try to find NoData app.
did you mean this one?

This one - NoData
thanks, will try this one
It is most likely because you have something on in Sense that is wanting to see the internet. Things like the weather, and email accout, etc.. will try to update itself from time to time. Make sure you have all automatic updates turn off.
weather and email are set to update only when manually requested, so that should not be a problem. Installed NoData from above post, so far so good, will keep an eye for couple of days.
unhappy to report that still some app uses internet via mobile network without my knowledge. How annoying Nodata certainly removed the message that was popping up, but does not seem like it resolved my problem. Why this has to be so difficult ?
not sure if it will work, but -
try WMLongLife, which (AFAIR) should pop-out a question whether you want to enable 3G - each time when new app is trying to make network connection - this way you could find out which it is

[SOLVED] wifi keeps goin to off-with screen mode

yea so recently my nexus wont keep the option to keep wifi on during sleep checked, everytime i pickup the nexus its gone back to "never" keep connected.
also, in the wifi advanced settings theres an options called "direct-wifi" it bring up peer devices,,,, is this a file sharing feature?
edit: ok "facepalm" a reboot seems to have solved the wifi-on prob., but still wondering what wifi-direct is
edit 2: found it Wi-Fi Direct
Android now supports Wi-Fi Direct for peer-to-peer (P2P) connections between Android-powered devices and other device types without a hotspot or Internet connection. The Android framework provides a set of Wi-Fi P2P APIs that allow you to discover and connect to other devices when each device supports Wi-Fi Direct, then communicate over a speedy connection across distances much longer than a Bluetooth connection.
NEW REPLY,
ok now its gone back to resetting to switch wifi off with screen off,
with this option constantly re-enabling itself will i be able to receive notifications while screen off?
FOUND ANSWER.
problem was a app called wifi-unlocker that i had given admin right to, it was for some reason shutting off my wifi with the screen off.....dont know why but uninstalled checked the box rebooted and now no issue
