Is anyone else having overheating issues ? It seems to be very bad when using 5g the phone gets so hot it has to go into "cool down" mode. I have a warranty replacement coming I was just wondering if anyone else was having the same issue.
I cannot use 5g on my phone without overheating issues. I noticed it happens more if im travelling, possibly because of 5g and LTE signals changing so frequently back and forth in 5g dead zones. This is also the first thread i find on this device and issue. Is TMobile sending you a new device. I had touch screen issues with my S10 Plus before 30 days of having it since launch date and TMobile refused to send me a new device. They said they send devices people return within their 14 day period.

They are sending me a new returned device and they reimbursed me the $26 shipping fee and the $20 replacement fee with a $50 bill credit. I had to get a little nasty with them and escalate it to a supervisor but whatever works right lol.
I turned 5G completely off on my device. I get 5G is part of the device but i bought it mainly for it being Oneplus device. You can't get the 7T Pro in the US unless thru T Mobile

It does run decent with 5g off for me too but with not many people making mention of having issues with the overheating I don't wanna wait too long to get a replacement Incase it's due to a defective phone.
Are you getting an actual overheating message? The phone getting warm using a 5G modem is perfectly normal. If the phone is shutting itself down to cool down or giving you some overheat message then it is indeed overheating. You might be able to use an app like cpu-z to see the temperature too.

Yes getting an actual overheating warning , and after it cools it gives another message saying it's back to normal but it runs really laggy for awhile afterwards.

Ugh, that's no good. I hope Oneplus put a proper cooling system in this device with 5G in mind.
Reading all the negativity leaves me wondering if I should of gotten the Samsung galaxy s10 5g?
I mean I still have 4 days for the t mobile 14 day return policy. Hmmm

I haven't had a single issue with my phone. Granted I'm not sure about the whole GPS thing as I don't use gps that much. Though heat wise my phone's gotten warm on gaming but has not overheated once. Even when I was using it with 5G
I've gotten a lot of dropped calls, a lot more than my s8+.
I just used the GPS for a 7hr drive and it worked great. No issues.
My battery life is getting a bit better after disabling battery optimization.
I've gotten my replacement device, I have been trying to purposely get it to overheat and have not been able to . So I'm assuming it was an issue with the phone itself.
I got mine yesterday. New tmo customer.
I played DC Legends. Within 3 minutes it was hot. Not warm but hot. Never had any other phone get that hot. I played maybe 15 minutes but it was hot. I could feel the heat an inch away without touching. So I’m returning it.
The home screen won’t rotate and the heat problem I am returning it. I can’t imagine why in the world OnePlus refuses to let you rotate the home screen. I need that.
Plus default settings the phone said I wasn’t connected to cell when I was in play store. It said 5g up top but changed to 4g and back to 5g several times real fast. Web sites sometimes hesitated to load for awhile.
I don’t know if I should try another considering that you can’t rotate the home screen and how hot it got and the connection issue.

It's a great phone, my replacement has no overheating issues. I have had pretty much every flagship phone up to date and this is by far my favorite. If you can get over the home screen not rotating you should just return it and get a replacement. If the rotating home screen is a deal breaker for you just return it and get a phone that you are happy with. As far as the 5g goes I am really enjoying it. I'm getting very good speeds in my area and can't really say I have any complaints.
Thanks. I'm going to exchange it. I just used the merge call feature with tmo support for a 3 way call and that's awesome. Plus I do like the phone. And someone said there's an app that forces landscape. So I'm going to try it.
I wonder though if the phone should get as hot as I described. I never got any overheating message but I could hold my hand over the screen an inch or so and feel the heat. Plus I consider that it was very hot when I would touch the screen and I've never had a phone this way before.

Well I have been playing cod alot on the highest brightness setting with no overheating, the original one I had that I exchanged I couldn't play more than a few min. Without it overheating, I couldn't even watch YouTube without overheating. The only way to get it to work without overheating was to turn off 5g. I do not have any heat issues with the new one.
I could not get over the home screen not rotating. So I got the note 10 +. I have that with xfinity.
But I’m still not sure if I want to keep it. I really liked the mclaren but it got so hot and home screen won’t rotate.
Tmo charged me $50 restock because I did not prove to them the issue. I didn’t want to waste my time. I had already reset it and wanted to just get out. So I’m so disappointed that I don’t really like any phones out that tmo has.
Ugh.

Had been very pleased with this device in the the three months that I've had it. Until yesterday that is.
Basically the screen is jerking up and down on its own. When looking at the homescreen, the only way I can think to describe it is it's like 60% of the screen starting from the bottom is moving up and down by about 2mm on its own. I can see it eating pixels as it does so (it eats into home screen shortcuts). It also does this jerking motion when in an application or using a the keyboard.
I haven't dropped the phone, it hasn't got wet. It is completely stock unrooted and was bought SIM free in the UK in December and not tied to any network.
Things I've tried to fix it :
1.Numerous reboots.
2. Uninstalling the couple of apps that I'd installed around the time I noticed the problem.
3. Just done a full battery drain and now giving it a full charge keeping it switched off to see if does anything, (can't say I'm hopeful).
Next step is to back up / get my data off it and do a factory reset. Despite the bloatware, the stock ROM isn't too bad.
I was also thinking of just rooting it and running a cyanogen mod also.
Would be great if anyone has any ideas what I can try or if they've seen this issue before and remedied it. I can't find anything in Google and I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a random bad luck hardware problem -- which is worse than it might be on account of living in Southeast Asia -- but the device was purchased in the UK in December. Anybody know if there is such a thing as international warranty for LG phones ?
Thank you in advance.
I wouldn't root it send it to lg it sound like a serious hardware problem the g2 seems to be plagued with problems

Yeah I won't bother rooting it. A factory reset has made no difference and it's actually worse now and totally unusable, the screen just pogo's / jitters up and down an inch at time constantly.
The phone was bought on 22th of December, I'm pretty annoyed at getting little more than three months out of it. It would be understandable perhaps if I dropped it, or it go wet, none of these happened and the hardware has just failed for no reason.
For sure the LG repair centre where I livein Bangkok won't want to know as it was bought in the UK. And no doubt I'll get slammed for import duty both ways together with eating the postage sending back to the UK. I think I'll feel better taking a lump hammer to it and make a youtube stating what I think of £400 phones that last 2 months and carry no international warranty.
Have you dropped your phone?
Yep it is sad I hope my g2 doesn't go through the same thing i will definitely get a backup device sooner than later but like I said earlier the g2 seems to be plagued with problems which means the nexus 5 prob has the same problems maybe maybe not I'm a little nervous now because in the us most of us buy our phones locked with contract in the UK everybody buys there devices unlocked without contract from what I've heard if your looking for a new device I would wait for the xperia z2 looks very nice

Hello, same problem with me too, mine screen starts to jittering (like there is an earthquake inside my phone) after the latest update for kitkat, the updates says for optimising apps and such.
But recently i realize if i block my mobile data, and only using wifi for the data transfer, my phone stabilize much much better than when i used GSM/3G to do internet activity. When i used 3G my phone jittering like crazy, sometimes bottom half of my screen is gray pixels and bottom up of my screen dancing like crazy almost 70-80 % of the time. But when i block my mobile data and using only wifi, 80-90% of the time is OK, still a bit jitterish, but waaay much better.
There is also member of this forum experienced this and suggest to full cycle charger for couple of times. He say his phone stabilize after do full cycle charger (depleted ur battery until conpletely empty, than charge to 100% while turning off the phone). Im trying it tonight.
I also consult with some cellphone tech support (in shopping mall). They say maybe when i did my update, there are some data corruptions, so my phone did not update properly (corrupted). Because when you factory reset your phone, people said that it retain the latest update of software. So if you already did a corrupted update, it will stay even if you factory wipe the phone.
Seizure ?

Im taking it in on LG Service Center this morning, the tech guy said its Hardware problem, about some sockets loose or something like that, He fix it and because im still have the warranty, so its free, no idea how much if the warranty is expired. And i still retain the KitKat OS (4.4.2). but my data is wiped out.
So far no jitters... I let you guys know if the jitters comeback.
phone automatic jerking
hello my s9380 phone have too much heating problem…during heat my phone is again and again restarting..also my phone is automatic touches screen and automatic jerking….can anyone help me how to solve my phone problem…my phone is rooted phone….
i have this flickering problem 1 week now i try to find a way to remove the rooted status on download mode so i can send it to warranty... anyone can help? flashed kdz with flash tool but rooted still stays red.. i tried to do factory reset using power+volum down but i cant do it...
Op...sounds like you have a faulty digitizer have you sent it in yet?
After 15 months own this phone, now this problem came to me too so unlucky because this happened after my warranty end...
Such a beautiful monster with so many hardware (screen or lcd) defects
I got same issue recently for many days, typically starts after turning screen on. Finally got it fixed by discharging fully and charging back again. No issue now. And I try not to charge phone too often only when battery is close to zero. Try charge and recharge a few times if it doesn't work. Works for me ?
Passing this on so others can benefit.
This is my opinion. I'm a long time Android user.
I purchased this device with the excitement of it being a mixture of my 2 favorite interfaces.
The phone itself is nice looking. The screen is curved leaving it difficult to install a screen protector.
The back is extremely 'grippy' but feels loose towards the middle.
The software is buggy and i think they should have definately spent more time with it. Had a couple of random reboots and freezes within the 1st day.
The phone was randomly getting hot to touch, even after i stopped running background app's, and when it was doing this the battery life would drop quick, very quick.....
The phone does get warm fast, no matter what other people tell you. Simply browsing chrome or facebook i could feel the heat within 3-4 minutes.
The battery life i experienced was abysmal! After 5 charging cycles it didnt get any better, i averaged just on 3.5 hrs screen on time, for a 3400mah battery thats pretty bad. Especially for a so called business device thats even worse.
The sound through the bottom speaker grill was average.
The only thing i thought was realy good was the actual phone calls, sound was loud and clear.
The price of this phone is absolutely ridiculous!!! Its not worth what there asking.
The phone is a big let down for me. I was shocked.
If you want true blackberry, save your money and get a Passport.
My opinions.
I am planning to get the silver passport...

Just about everyone reported good battery life with this thing. Ya sure you weren't running a lot of junk apps in the background?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not buying it. The keyboard is trash. But still.
Did you update anything? For some reason the Blackberry apps don't say they need updates, you have to visit their store page and update there. Also, unlinking and relinking your email account in the hub may help with your heat issues. There's also the chance you just got a lemon.
I updated all my apps i made sure i had nothing running in the background. Im pretty good with Android. No my way round somewhat.
If you get one just make sure you have the ability to return it easily enough.
I returned mine to the store and got a LG G4 instead which is an unbelievably good phone.
You can try out these steps to make sure you have the latest Blackberry apps on your Priv: http://crackberry.com/get-latest-app-updates-your-blackberry-priv-automatically
I have 0 battery issues. yes it gets warm, but that's probably as much as my oneplus 2. I'm easily getting 5 - 6hrs SOT over 18 hrs.
So far i am liking this device. I have an s6 edge, passport original (sold now), passport silver, which is the only device i have ever went back to after getting rid of. Now a Priv. So after getting it all set up with gmail, hub, twitter, facebook, corporate email, and some other random apps and charged up to 100% i went to bed with it unplugged. Woke up 7 hours later battery was at 96. Not bad for overnight. The productivity edge compared to the people edge on the s6 is a grand slam, its almost like having google now launcher after all primed up. Double tap to wake is flawless so far. I must say i am impressed. being able to hotkey all the keyboard keys just like my passport is great. I have not seen a single glitch yet. This device, for launchday software on a new platform for Blackberry is quite polished. I am not a blackberry loyalist by any means, but the subtle customizations and natively being able to set the flashing LED colour to different alerts is all baked in. I think im going to sell my Edge.

Battery is awesome!! No complains!
Totally disagree with OP. My experience is very different. Great business device with good replication of the best of BB10.
Aside from the heating thing, everything else seems to be your device only. You might have gotten a faulty device.
I've been using the Priv for a week now, neither a single random reboot nor a freeze happened. The phone is fluid, and no lags. It does get warm quite quickly, but not to the extent you're describing here ("hot to touch"). It gets as warm as other devices, but quicker.
I wouldn't go as far as returning the device only for these issues, I'd get it replaced instead. But then again, that's just me, and I have been excited about it since its rumours and renders. If you weren't excited about it, or just looking for a "new device" to test, I'd understand why you were eager to return it.
I also wasn't pleased with the battery life. I own a moto x play, has a 3,600 mah battery, I average 6.5- 7 hrs screen on time, the priv have me about 3hrs with a similar size battery??!!
Mine is back in the box ready to be returned also same issue. So hot almost too hot to touch. Constant fc on chrome and hanging battery life absolute ****e and worst of all how the sharp corner sticks into your hand on obe handed use. ..so disappointed as I was waiting since release day..total pants if you ask me
Heat issues may be dependent upon your network as I found in the UK that on EE very little warming but a bit more warming on Vodafone.
Yeah mine was on voda
I'm actually pretty happy with the priv - mine only gets slightly warm under load, doesn't randomly reboot or crash, the screen doesn't click, the front and rear cameras both work flawlessly...
however, I'm on the verge of returning it due to the physical keyboard. People complain that it's cramped and small, but I have no issue with that either. My main issue is that it drops keys randomly and can't keep up with the typing - it happens most frequently when typing double letters ("google" -> "gogle", or "good"->"god"), but it also randomly drops keys elsewhere too. I'm pretty sure it's not me as I intentionally type very deliberately to see, and I hear/feel the key click down - but nothing registers on the screen.
For a company that built its reputation on having the best in class keyboard... this is pretty disappointing.

If this is the case what a major flaw, if your on a certain network you could potentially Cook an egg on the back of your priv with the heat!!
Give it a couple of full drain/charge cycles and you'll be fine. Software is a bit buggy yes. But since this such an important phone for BB, you can be assured constant software updates will make this into a monster.
Give it a real chance before you dismiss it.
Here's my SOT after 1 week of use. Here with 34% left. This will get you up to 6 hours SOT.

Just had the Priv for a week.... so far its a great device, but has its issues....
Firstly, the curved screen is not the most practical, specially when grabbing your phone.... second of all, for the first time, its overheating....
No root is horrible too.... hoping that someday soon, the root is coming out....
my priv also sometimes so hot, esp the screen
I had a Priv a while ago and would get super hot when browsing the Web.. I think the back of the phone is pretty thin so maybe that's why but even then.. It gets pretty damn hot
Sent from my LG-H900 using Tapatalk
Mine normally doesn't... or maybe it does but I have the sliding case around it so maybe I don't feel the heat...
However, last Friday, out of the blue a message popped up in notification saying something like "you're wifi is being disabled to prevent the device from overheating" ...I was driving at the time, so obviouslynot doing anything actively on the phone... just had Waze running. Have been an Android user from the beginning ... have had phones with known/documented overheating issues, but never had such a message crop up.
In anycase, I immediately rebooted... when the phone restarted, I lost cellular data... and spent the next 3 hours worried somehow the radio has fried... requested an RMA, put questions on XDA and BlackBerry forums... came close to resetting the phone..until... I went in to Data Usage and realised, Cellular Data had aslo been disabled when the phone overheated!!!
No overheat since...
yeah, she gets damned hot.
doesnt seem to stop it working though
All Blackberry apps updated via Play Store?
Make sure that all Blackberry apps in Play Store are updated. When I first got the phone(end of December) phone was also getting warm-hot. I was in play store, but it didn't offer me any Blackberry apps, but I searched the store for "Blackberry" and it came up with the apps and I saw that they needed to be updated. After that, no more heat, at least not bad and on par with other devices. I don't play games on phones, so won't comment about that
Mine got incredibly hot when I first used it - restoring my accounts, apps, data etc but today is my first day of proper use and it seems just fine. No problems with heat at all.

Have a look at what's chugging away on your device and see what's sucking your battery. It'll be in your battery stats.
I found mine to get very hot and that's even compared to my Moto X Style (which also consistently runs warm) and my Z5 & 6P despite them having an 810 instead the 808. It's disconcerting how warm / hot the device runs and the thin carbon fibre frame only seems to enhance the feeling of it being too warm.
It's making me reconsider holding onto mine tbh.

Hi all,
I got my S20 a couple days back and never since that day have I not seen my phone heat up every now and then.
Heavy multi-tasking ; this thing starts to warm up which is normal but what is not normal is how excessively hot this device get when using the camera for a little over 5 minutes , whether it is recording videos or clicking pictures, this device becomes unreasonably hot.
Playing a little bit of game on highest settings for a couple of minutes shouldn't be causing as much heat as the S20 ends up generating.
I am skeptical for the logetivity of this device if this heating up keeps up on such trivial tasks.
Not sure, but has anyone before ever experience this kind of problem and has seen the OEM actually fix it with mere software updates?:fingers-crossed:
Let's discuss the status of each of our devices and figure if only a bunch of us have the devices which are behaving like this or is it happening with all of our phones?
SD S20 owners can also pitch in for comparison.:good:
Thank you.
Yes I'm also experiencing same thing. Even watching a 3-4 minute video on YouTube makes the phone feel warm. Camera heats up the phone very quickly.
Hope Samsung solves the issue.
Same problem on camera it heats up rilly fast, not seeing that in you tube though..
Same here...or even worse. 5 mins on facebook/twitter and then the device becomes obviously warm.
Same thing happens when doing wireless charging. It still gets warm quite quickly even when fast wireless charging is disabled.
Exynos S20 exynos 990
Same problem. So I went to Samsung Service center and told them the problem regarding this overheating issue. What they are telling me is that 41.8 degrees(what they have read from my device using a thermal scanner) is normal (I don't think so as 42 degrees for trivial task is absurd) also they inform me that they will reinstall the operating system once again and check whether the problem still persists, if yes replacement will be done by giving us one certificate that we can take it to the shop where we have bought the phone and get a new s20 (what a lengthy process).

New Software updates
Since I wrote this post, there have been two updates pushed by samsung.
None of them made any dent to the slew of problems that this phone has been having.
I tested antutu score, I know they are not the real test for day to day usage but these scores have actually dropped since latest update.
The camera albeit is better at focusing , I can testify to that as I made two videos before and after the updates and I can see some difference but the heating is still going on like crazy.
Now I think, Samsung should have added a heat vapor chamber in the phone to manage this hot garbage.
Very disappointed to have payed so much and not even get the performance as good as the last year's SD devices.
Facing the same issue. I just want to know how can I get is replaced.
Samething on Exynos. When it hits 40c, it automatically switches to 60hz and get back when it cools down. Exynos was never good.
But one thing I can say for sure if you are worry about longevity. Never user your phone while it is charging. One thing is using your phone hot while discharging. Another thing is using it while charging and it will definitely impact battery life long term speaking.
I would disable fast charging too.
Same here! And if you have like 30-35% battery and your phone begins to heat up, say goodbye to 120hz, I think it throttles so hard that the performance can't go beyond 60.
It is really very very disappointing .It gets up so hot just using the device continues for 30 min. Once the temp cross 40+ it switches to 60hz. hahahah for this we have to pay a premium price.
Have already started to have 2nd thoughts for next galaxy devices with exynos. really really very annoying to use this phone these day in hot summers.
I hope to get it fixed soon. if not probably iam goning to quit this phone. very disappointed.
Display turns into yellow
Same problem here with ultra exynos after watching serval videos and using camera for 10 to 15 mins. At low brightness display turns yellowish because of heat and screen turns into 60 hz automatically. Has anyone noticed this yellowish problem?

Yeah, noticed that too. I tried turning off the 120hz and it fixed the issue.

That's strange. I have noticed 2 times yellowish display like a filter and after increasing the brightness it was OK but after reducing again it went to yellowish. Thank you for the info..

Same. But it wasn't happening before so it might be a software bug.

Same issue
Same problem here guys, I am very frustrated.
First of all why make two variants, one with snapdragon an other with exynos?
Why this discrimination?
Secondly why should I pay for a flagship and get a less than flagship experience?
I hope it is partly software fixable.
I am so gonna be very unpleasant and persistent at support. Greece here and bought s20 two days ago

It goes back to the early 90's when Samsung made a trade deal with Qualcomm. As a result of the trade deal, Samsung were allowed to use Qualcomms products but only in the markets where Samsung's products didn't compete directly with Qualcomms i.e the USA.
Nobody held a gun to your head when you bought the device. You could've just done a simple Google search and found a way to import the SD variant. Samsung aren't discriminating - it's called business.
If you dont like the Exynos variant, the OnePlus 8 is being announced on the 14th - that'll surely have the SD865.
It sucks, the only software solution I can see is throttling TBH.
Honestly thinking about cutting my losses on my S20+

Least expected from a flagship
I have a S20 and it heats up to that level that with a cover also it gets uncomfortable to hold. And this observation is with not any heavy use, very routine use like checking Gmail, watching Youtube, browsing Instagram.
I sold my one plus 5t and got this phone, very disappointed, should have waited and bought a one plus only. Samsung, if you are hearing me please fix this - if it's a hardware issue, please recall and provide a replacement, if it's a software issue please fix. But stop asking customers to go to service centres as it is not a specific problem to any phone. Most if not all exynos customers are facing it.
We been really ****ed over by samdong with latest updates the charging has gone from 1 hr to charge from 0 to 100 too 80 mins and only reason i can think of is because of the overheating that exynos is suffering so we pay nearly 1400 notes for this piece of **** and its getting worse on every update **** you samdong
As the title states already hating this phone and I still have like 700 left to pay on it. It Overheats atleast 2 times a day if not more. Can't seem to handle much I only live in the UK. I would hate to be somewhere where it is hot all the time.
Wow that's bad glad I don't face these issues. My device had been running smoothly from day one and no overheating even with 35°C and up.
Do you mind sharing what you're doing with your device when it overheats?
When being used in my car and when playing Pokémon go usually. I know it could be classed as high usage.
But I have never had this problem before. And definitely not while in use in my car being charged using maps and music etc
Better make sure you don't overheat yourself while driving. My device doesn't get a chance to overheat while navigating as it is positioned in front of the air-conditioning keeping it nice and cool.
I've had overheating in the past with my Note 9 but haven't seen it one my OP8Pro yet.
However it might have something to do with the latest firmware as my device does get warmer than before and battery drains much faster.

I have exactly the same issue as described. Only solution I found to 'lower' a bit the occurences of getting this annoying message that the phone is overheating, as well as a severe throttling of the screen and CPU, is to force the phone to use specific CPU frequencies depending on what app is running (scenarios). I do this through Franko Kernel Manager, but maybe some other apps could offer the same functions. I do love that phone but this overheating issue is seriously getting on my nerves too...

What OS you running mate? Where's it from ? What model?
It's more than likely that a particular region / model / firmware will be having more issues than others.
On a personal note my device has remained cool even after playing Dreamcast games via a Bluetooth controller for over an hour. Just doesn't overheat, the 865 has great efficiency which was one of its plus points over the 855. Probably the CPU / GPU has an imperfect contact with your heatsink.
If that's the case then it'll progress and will end up a lot worse, so an RMA would be the only option, be sure to get the tech to make some notes.

Normal unrooted stock. OnePlus UK OnePlus 8 Pro.
It seems to run hot to the touch most of the time.
I am having the same issues.
I got the phone two days ago, still not facing these issues.
I've been driving my current car for almost 2 years now. I've used a magnetic phone holder on an AC vent and have turned that vent off ever since. For 2 years I've charged phones will using Google Maps/music streaming with no issues. Phones include Galaxy S10, S20U, Note 10, OP 7, etc. with no issues. This OnePlus 8 Pro overheats very easily and I've resorted to actually turning the AC vent on in order to avoid it.
I'm not sure what happened, but the 8 Pro has had some serious QC issues.
Maybe a factory reset would help with overheating issues, a total wipe. I used fastboot erase userdata while in the bootloader mode. I had a couple of issues and after resetting, they seemed to go away.

Yea defo not right pal, send that back.. if it's from three then go into store, see if they can swap over the counter.
Had my phone a week and its done it once. Was in the car sitting on my console kinda in direct sunlight and charging. This worries me cause (what if I go to the beach will it overheat) and (2) what if I have it in the holder on my bike while I'm out and about will it overheat?

It's been 35C + in the UK this past week and my phone has remained cool throughout, no problems whatsoever.
The 865 is a great chip, it's extremely efficient unless you get a bad one which could happen with any SOC, even Intel and AMD have some bad eggs. It happens unfortunately.
Same as some chips overclock better than others
Has happened to me numerous times too. Usually when using Android Auto in the car (not when it's warm outside) and also when outside in the sun. This is my 2nd 8pro and it happened on the first too.

Are you charging and using GPS at the same time during use of Android auto?
Thats a sure fire way to bake any phone, even a stand alone GPS unit.

Nope. On its own. I have to blow the aircon on the phone to keep it cool when navigating. Also using the phone this week with my drone I couldn't see the screen because it kept on overheating and decreasing the brightness. Never happened once on my 7pro.

I haven't had that issue in any way, was playing Dreamcast and Wii games for a few hours earlier, didn't even feel warm.
GPS can be a drain on power, depends on a few things though.
But turning off like that? I would suggest that's a fault. Probably an imperfect contact with the heatsink.
Just a thought but are you running QHD and 5G.
I don't use either.. try turning to 4G and FHD, might be why?
If not then I'd see what OnePlus or your supplier can do about a replacement. Really need to get the point over that its not a software issue, probably perform a factory wipe just to be sure prior to sending anything off to them.
Shame that it's happening to be honest.

The phone dims the display when it starts to overheat and a message pops up saying it's overheating. Jerry rig shows two dollops of heat sink paste on the CPU so I suspect OP know then have problems, they've also decreased the max brightness after an update most likely to counteract the overheating. It's happened with my two 8pros so I doubt it's a manufacturing ,most likely the SOC naturally runs warmer or the design doesn't dissapate heat effectivity. Doesn't bother me massively but it does happen.
