Any way to remove the cartoon doodles on the google search bar? - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

I just took the Android 10 update yesterday and now I have these stupid cartoons on my google search bar. Is there any way to disable them without losing the entire search bar? Completely annoying, especially for a phone setup primarily for business.

Yeah, you probably won't be able to use that method anymore. I'm pretty sure you can only use the Maps app itself now. If you tap the icon on the right-hand side of the search bar, that's navigation. I'm just guessing here, but there's probably an intent for it, so maybe somebody has written a little app using the old navigation icon that will launch Maps with that intent? Of course, you can also easily get to navigation by voice command. That may or may not be an option for you. I've been trying to use voice a little more, because it actually works really well.

hi,
so this is normal behaivour of 4.4
this changes is very bad for me, classic navigation icon shoulb be. Voice method will be alternate new feature.
ı Hope this blue navigation icon is came .
thanks...
Ah, I think I just found something that's almost like the old navigation icon.
Tap and hold in any unused space of the screen. Pick Widgets, then add the widget called "Directions". It makes you enter something for the source and destination, but you can just use a single space for each, then tap Save. The new widget should do basically what the blue arrow used to do.

yes, google directions are similar to navigation icon.
I test it it works well.
Thanks

[Q] [Android 5.0] Status bar and Navigation bar colors

I just flashed the LRX21T factory image on my Nexus 4 and I am loving it!
Few observations and questions regarding status bar and navigation bar coloring:
1. On home screen (default launcher), the status bar and navigation bar are black. Am I missing a setting to make it translucent? Or is that not possible on N4?
2. Some stock apps, like Gmail, Play Store, Settings, Phone, Contacts are able to change the status bar color (albeit not as good as Tinted-Status-Bar) but they don't change navigation bar color. Is this expected? Or am I missing a setting again?
3. Other stock apps like Hangouts, Chrome, Calendar, Youtube are not able to change either status bar or navigation bar colors. Is this expected? Or missing something?
4. Other non-stock apps, like gReader Pro etc. are not able to change status bar or navigation bar. This is definitely expected
I am just so used to Xposed+Gravitybox+Tinted-status-bar trio to customize fine details and colorings, that I am getting bothered by these things.
Waiting for a N4-Lollipop root to arrive soon, and official Lollipop support for Xposed/GravityBox/TSB.
Any tips for getting rid of the above annoyances while I wait for the Xposed?
Thanks!
I think it might be problem of your wallpaper, try to zoom in and set it again

Not using any custom wallpaper. Picked from one of the stock ones. Tried changing, no dice.
I don't think it has anything to do with wallpaper. Do you mean to say that on your Nexus 4 you are able to see translucent status bar and nav bar on home screen? Can you post a pic?
I noticed this too. I had transparent nav and notification bars in 4.4.4, but lost them on the home screen after flashing 5.0. I'm also using the stock wallpaper.
You guys need to install Google now launcher
Install Google Now Launcher from the Play Store.
Yes, that was it, I had to reinstall Google Now launcher, it didn't return with the rest of my apps.
I'm pretty sure the app disparity is because just like translucence in KK, the colored bars are turned on by the app developers. Not all of Google's apps are updated yet to reflect the new APIs, or you haven't yet been selected for rollout.
I plan to keep using Nova Launcher, so I don't care about the stock launcher black status bars.

1. It is the AOSP launcher. Google has to include that because Android is also available for parties who are yet to be Gapps-approved so they at least has a launcher when the system boots, as Google Now Launcher is based on Google Search, and Google Search is part of the Google Apps Package. The AOSP launcher hasn't receive much change, if not none, since the introduction of transparent status/navigation bars. So you will need to install Google Now Launcher or third-party launchers. Still, since this is obviously a nexus image, Google should have installed it by default for a better user experience.
2. This is correct behaviour. Google did not intend to colour the nav bars for now in their Google Apps, and intention is unknown, probably less intrusive? Still, app developers can now colour both bars in their app for any user running un-rooted lollipop, so you may expect any app to do that.
3. These are expected.
Hangouts is yet to receive any material update despite many other apps did, and hopefully it will receive one soon.
Youtube hasn't received its full material redesign yet, as you can clearly tell from inside the app.
For Chrome, the status bar colouring is reserved for web developers who enables HTML Tags for their websites (See Android Police post for more details). So if a website did not have that feature, the status bar will be black.
For Calendar, they are probably working on deciding the proper colour, since different months have different theme-images at the top of tablets. Also, your calendars are colour-coded so they probably don't want to disturb your viewing experience with a specific colour on the status bar.
4. As said in point 2, it will require a little update from the app developer to enable colours.
Without custom roms or xposed, there won't be a solution at all, unless you download some highly customisable apps like various third-party launchers or Whatsapp Plus which allows you to set your own colours for the bars. For now let's wait for the app developers (including Google) to update. Hope I have solved your frustrations and happy lollipopping!
What an amazing response Miasmic! Thank you for taking the time to write such a crystal clear explanation. This is why XDA-dev forums are a class apart

SystemUI / Good Lock etc.

Hi all,
A newbie question to the Android experts. I have read in many forums that a rooted device is needed in order to change and/or customize status bar icons. However, Samsung Good Lock app was able to do this on an un-rooted device. Good Lock app provided AOSP status bar icons and I loved it. The stock Samsung network and WiFI icons are super hard to see and quite frankly ugly. The wifi icon is half the size because of the ridiculous up/down arrows underneath the icon.
I have been looking for a replacement app like Good Lock but no luck. I tried Status and Material Status apps but they are buggy and don't work all the time. More over, they render another status bar on top of an existing one.
How was Good Lock app able to do this on a non-rooted device? I presume it was able to replace the SystemUI?What does it take to build an app like Good Lock? Anyone knows how it was accomplished or if it's possible?
Thanks for your time.

Navbar question

Hi I got OnePlus 6t and I have a problem with the navigation bar . Always but always is white when I am using a colour application a game or something and become black if I use a white application like chrome for example. I can understand this is a future to prevent screen burning but for me is so annoying. My wife got s9 plus and the navigation bar become transparent plus you got the option to change it black or how you like it.
I don't know if is only me or I am too fussy but is so bad so fuxxking bad I try to speak with some guys in the community app I try to tell them a future abut this but they not doing anything..
Now I flash beta 4 hoping that they done something. Guess what . Nothing
Try the app "Navbar Apps" in the Play Store.
Nothing against the author of the app mentioned but having to give out that much access to your device to change something that should be part of the theme is a design weak point.
If you're Rooted you can install Xposed and use BlackNavigationBar and it works flawlessly.
rahlquist .
Yeah you are right they can add this future to change the nav bar easy.
benclaytonmke
i will root it back just for this future ,i didn't know that xbosed is working on android 9 , i will check a tuturial on xda forum
Hi all,
i didn't want to make a whole thread just to ask if any have found/use a app similar to what "Custom Navigation Bar" by paphonb used to do?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-custom-navigation-bar-customize-t3590967
i dont want to change colors or add images like other apps, i just want to add a back button on the right side same as the left one for the pie navbar. is not about swap the back button to the right, is having 2 back icons and change the image to dots.

Always show navigation bar

I use my tablet for my kids and I despise the Freetime launcher because most of my apps are sideloaded with Google Play (paid content). So those apps won't show in Freetime. Regardless, I hate that environment but the problem I have is that my kids have a difficult time figuring out how to go back to the main screen where you need to swipe up or from the side to get the navigation bar. Is there a way to force it to always show the navigation bar?
