Hey!
I'm using the latest global stable for my Note 7 and I'm experiencing lagging animations when going to recent apps and home, especially with gestures. I tried resetting my phone, turning MIUI optimization on and off and everything I found or could think about. Is this something that only a new update can fix or can I do something about this? Kind of a bummer, just got this phone and it's a worse experience than my old Note 4.
Thanks!
Unlock bootloader and flash back MIUI 10. Stay away from 11 until it comes with Android Q.
Updated to MIUI 11 with Android 10. It's kinda fixed, but not entirely. It still lags from time to time, but it's okay I guess, it's a cheap phone afterall.
Changing default launcher also seems to make ui smoother. I'm using nova launcher and recents, notification and app opening animations are much more fluid (im on android 10 latest miuimix and its fastest rom i used)
I'm using xiaomi.eu rom.
See this is why I refuse to update my software.
Still running flawlessly on MIUI 10.3.5
Haven't had any issues and animations run perfectly on this phone. Hate to mess that up with an update

Here's a few ROMs that I've found surfing Chinese websites. I am not a developer but I've installed all these ROMs on my device with no problems. Just follow the usual procedure of booting into ClockworkMod, wiping data/cache, installing gapps etc. Well here we go. Hope you guys like this. Links placed between @ signs and "." replaced with [dot] as I'm not allowed to add links yet.
ROM NUMBER 1: MIUI SLIDE
Android 2.3.4
Based on the Xiaomi phone 320x480 display
Only some themes usable as resolution not big enough
MIUI Camera
MIUI Music Player – In Chinese though so can be replaced with one from the Market
MIUI Original Ringtones
MIUI Original Built in Font
MIUI boot animation
MIUI Contacts and Dialler (exdialler)
Powerful Flashlight
Known Bugs:
Calendar widget has small problems
MIUI Lockscreen may be delayed. Can be turned off if annoying

And don't worry they're all in English.
Any feedback or thoughts from those that've already downloaded a ROM?
Still using A1ndroid Love and not had any problems. Runs pretty smooth. New messages pop up (see attachment). Calendar and Calendar Storage not included, but can be extracted from the latest cyanogenmod and installed as apks.

Did not know this thread existed.
Well im going to give the one you are using a try. I love go launcher.
The MIUI one may be similar to the one thats in the dev thread.
Did you give it a go? If so how was it for you?
Going to try A1NDROID LOVE!!!
Will post my experience
G1 and GG any feedback?
Mina, how big are the Roms?
i am getting ready to swap CM7
cheers!
why not you try unofficial CM9 or MIUI ICS rom? you can find them on the developers' subforum for m3gs here.
I have stock, up-to-date Android 4.2.2.
I am trying to figure out why use CM10.1 or any other custom ROM over up-to-date stock Android Rom.
Well, for me I use stock and faux kernel @1.9ghz and I'm fine with it
Custom Roms add more features thou, I used to run aokp on my n7 but I prefer stock
Sent from my Nexus 4 @1.944 GHz on Stock 4.2.2
Mainly for the customization, and certain features not found in stock roms.
It's an user preference really.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium HD app
thank you for the responses.
Like the idea of faux kernel with Stock rom.
Also for some more optimization, and little fixes of things that Google f**ked up in their stock Android
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Here are the main features that are interesting to me:
- Built-in notification light control
- SMS bonus features (quick reply, original timestamps, etc)
- Volume rocker wake
- Navring (2 other shortcuts besides google now)
- Their cLock widget is nice
- Editable toggles / quick settings + quick pulldown (pulldown from right goes directly into toggles) LOVE IT
- Torch built in..
Downsides:
- The slide up animation of google now is not as smooth and sexy
- Old calendar app (WHY U NO REMOVE IT, it's on the play store!!) though it's practically the same

The source for the Play version isn't open though, so they build from the source that is available (i.e. the current CM calendar) and I their ultimate goal is to include what you need to operate a smart phone without absolutely requiring the addition of Gapps; although 99.999% of people ultimately do.

Yea probably the same reason why there is the "stock/modded" ICS browser (I know some people prefer it). They don't want preinstalled store apps in the rom, and such things as browser and calendar are basic features expected cooked in a ROM. PA does that though and it works well I think with no legal issue.
After trying several roms,I can say the top feature of nexus is the stock android and being uptodate instantaneous ,
So why you install a custom rom ? Sure it will not be stable as stock.
Customization can be dne through apk,I use
Exdialer.
Nova launcher
Sliding messages.
Tasker
Active screen lock , sometimes
Proximity screen off
Power toggle
Hi, after trying every single AOSP ROM out there, they all have this weird scrolling lag that when I hold my finger on the screen while scrolling, it seems to stutter, like the screen seems like its running at 20fps instead of 60. I remember some older builds of Omni and slimkat had it fixed but now they both have it back again. changing kernels and settings etc. does not work. Does anyone know a work around or something to fix this?

I've been having a similar issue where UI transitions get bogged down and it looks more like 0.1 fps. I have to put the phone down and let it catch up for minutes at a time. Sometimes I have to reboot the device to get things cleared up.
I've tried all kinds of kernel/rom combos with no success.
Is anyone else having this issue and more importantly, did you find a fix?
It seems to only happen when there is some sort of transition going on... keyboard coming up, notification drawer going up or down, swiping away notifications, bringing up recents, exiting an app, opening an app, etc...:silly:
Thanks much.

Did you manage to find out what is causing this or fix it somehow? I think I experience exactly the same thing on my d802 using Mahdi 4.4.2, but it did not happen on beta 1 but started happening ever since vibration was added to the rom starting from beta 2. Maybe some kind of conflict in how vibration is implemented on AOSP as it does not happen on CM 11 (CAF) or other CM based roms for me on d802.

Nope, haven`t used an AOSP ROM in about 2 months... I need that camera quality that stock ROMs have that AOSP doesn`t
Having been using this for couple of weeks and seems to work mostly fine: (MoKee dior, can't post links yet, google helps)
Only problem seems to be with theming engine, it could be my nova launcher or something else thou, haven't tried with fresh install after systemui started to randomly crash. Nothing big, and not constantly, but sometimes. Anyone else tried & had similar problem?

Yes, I have the same problem with fresh install and looks like it's a common problem. My guess is it has something to do with RAM management.
+1 to the Systemui crash, but in my experience it happened after almost 10+ days after installing the ROM but i would say its still manageable by looking at the customization options the ROM gives...
Hopefully we may get a stable ROM soon
Hi,
Since i've bought this device, i'm happy with it regarding the price and the overall quality. But one thing is bothering me each day a little more : the notifications. One day i receive them all, no problem, next day i'm not informed for a new snap, next day with whatsapp, receiving Gmail notif 1h later after receiving the mail... Very annoying !!
I've tried stock Miui, EU china and EEA global... can't see any improvement, still not regular... I love Miui full gestures and still want it, custom roms have problem with gcam and whatsapp video call, i use both of them each day... i've seen custom miui rom but all in russian... not that much info... is it really safe to use them ? I'm a hard user of google products, from phone to youtube, maps, gmail, agenda, drive...
Is debloating with Saki tool a way to solve those problems ? any others ideas guys ?
I've heard about this issue so much. It seems to be a problem with MIUI and I've not seen a fix for it. I can recommend custom roms where the Gcam/Whatsapp video issue is reportedly fixed though. Pixel Experience (non-CAF version) and Lineage OS (by letsmakecakes) reported that they have fixed these issues. You can try them as I've read they have good battery life too (reportedly better than MIUI). I'm currently on Syberia and waiting for these fixes to be ported to other roms too, which i think will happen soon.
One advice if you switch to Custom roms; don't flash custom kernels. Stick with the one provided in the rom. I've had huge battery drains with evira 3.8 and 4.1.
Yes, i've just seen that the PE rom seems to have both working now !! i think i'm gonna try it or another solid rom (love AEX !!) as soon as it's confirmed it works. For the full nav gestures, any advice ? it's the thing which make me stick to Miui too : a REAL full screen with perfect getures within have to move my hand to the bottom of the phone each 15 sec

The edge gestures implemented in rom in my experience are a bit laggy but you can always use an app like ubikitouch or fluid navigation gesture to solve the problem

I've tried a few roms (AOSPX, Havoc, LOS, Bootleggers, Descendant, crDroid and now Syberia) and almost -if not- all of them had fullscreen navigation options built in. Personally, I am using "Navigation Gestures - Swipe Gesture Controls!" by XDA on play store. I paid for the app but it's cheap and works increadibly reliable. Even the free version should have more customizations than MIUI. (Don't use hide navbar option in the app, disable nav bar in the ROM settings)

Great !!! I will wait for the next PE stable build and gonna give a try to it ! I've seen Havoc and others have added in changelog "remove hal3/hal1 switch" : are they working on this fix too ?

I sure hope so. The fixes should be open and shared among the xda developers. I'm sure every maintainer would like to implement this fix on their next update.
