Hi, I've got an unlocked LG G2, originally AT&t (D800 model), now being used with T-Mobile.
I've got a bit of an issue; I can't update the phone.
I had ordered it from Amazon (New), and it came with stock Android 4.4.2, but it is not the latest version, which has many new features, including Knock Code.
Now, I know for a fact that an OTA update won't work, seeing as it's not connected to AT&T's network, but I had assumed i could update it from my PC.
I was wrong; LG PC Suite says that it has the latest version, and that there is no update available.
The exact software version is included in the screenshot below:
Well, I went to the forum of AT&T's community to ask about Lollipop and they said it didn't came out yet... Anyways, they told me the only way is updating OTA... So I think you'll need to ask a friend to lend you his/her AT&T sim card.
QJ3 <stock sprint> updated the bootloader from v4 to v5. Just a heads up for those of you wanting to flash the U firmware and getting errors.
So, probably a dumb question, but what do I need to do to avoid the errors? I messed up trying to flash a T-Mobile rom right after updating the firmware, and now I can't boot. I can get to download mode, but can't find a firmware that will flash without failing.
From what reading I've done, I need to find a newer firmware than the one that was on my phone originally, but I can't seem to find anything that will work.

You should be able to flash QJ3 or maybe the latest tmob one. Check sammobile or updato... Just checked, not posted yet. Have you tried a Google search for the qj3 firmware?

Thank you, I wasn't sure what the latest version is so that helps. I did try flashing the latest T-Mo and Sprint firmwares on both Sammobile and updato.com, but it looks like neither are newer than QJ3 so I guess that's my problem. I'll just search or wait to find a new version posted. This phone isn't a daily driver so it's not critical right now.

I had the same issue and just loaded the latest PIT. It allowed me to start my phone with my old Sprint OS.
Here is a version of the QJ3 zip for odin.

You should be able to flash and restore your phone

Thanks so much, this worked perfectly.
Has anyone tried going to the u firmware via pit file? I remember this working in the past. You have to flash the version pit file and previous stock rom, then you could flash the u rom.
Is there any way to downgrade bootloader from P version and then install U version?

Maybe. About a year ago, you could load a PIT file. Not sure if that method works with the newest bootloader. @spamforme mentioned something about it a few posts ago.

Right now there is no way to downgrade to install the U version software. Sprint upgraded to the version 5 bootloader and is the only carrier in the US to do so, so you can't install any other carrier software on your S7 or S7 Edge right now once you have Sprint software installed on it. I have a SM-G930U I took to sprint this past July under the 1 year free service before taxes promotion. Fully unlocked version I purchased online, after having trouble installing a Sprint sim, I had to go in to the store to get the phone to activate.
Once activated Sprint sim locked my unlocked phone(found this out 2 months later when I tried to put another sim in it.) At this point it was still running the SM-G930U Unlocked firmware. I escalated a sim unlock request in September, 2 months pasted and they still didn't unlock my phone. I ended up having to go back in to a Sprint Store to facilitate the unlock, and during that process the Sprint store, flashed my phone to 5BQJ3, that being said, after they did that to unlock my phone they were unable to put the Unlocked firmware back on the phone in the store, I have failed to put the unlocked firmware back on my phone since also, I have escalated this to Samsung, as my phone is under warranty and Samsung say there is nothing they can do. So Sprint sim locked my unlocked phone, and during the process of getting my sim unlocked phone back unlocked, they hijacked my phones software and put all the sprint bloatware and malware on my S7 SM-G930U unlocked phone, and it can't be removed currently as Sprint is the only carrier using bootloader 5 in the US.
I ended up filling out a complaint with the FCC about this last week, and waiting for Sprint to respond as the FCC filed the complaint with Sprint on December 22, 2017. and they have 30 days to respond. But I have tried everything I can think of to get the phone back to the U version software without any resolve. As far as I am concerned Sprint owes me a replacement Samsung Galaxy S7 Unlocked phone or newer model, and right now the only "Unlocked" variant Samsung phone Sprint even stocks is the new S8 Active SM-G892U phone which is the same phone for Sprint as it is for T-Mobile; but we shall see what happens I am not holding my breath with Sprint and will probably just have to take them to small claims court for the replacement cost of my phone as it is cheaper than submitting a formal grievance with the FCC is the informal one doesn't solve the issue.
is there any other carrier firmware with the same bootloader version that i can flash to? i need a phone for Verizon, i'm stuck on the sprint firmware. there's a band that is disabled on the sprint one. hopefully one of the others, if there is one available, will have the bands needed enabled.

Wow - nice persistence following up with FCC! Would love to hear how that gets resolved. I'm also stuck with a 930P v5 bootloader and no way to install 930U firmware. What is the best way to track 930U firmware bootloader versions so that I know if/when v5 is released?

G930UUES4BQL1 is bootloader 4.
G930UUEU2APG9 is bootloader 2.
G930PVPU5BQJ3 is bootloader 5.
At the end, go 5 digits back and you will get the boot binary version. So when the U firmware gets to G930UXXX5XXXX it should be good to go. Based on the U history, it looks like the bootloader will get updated if/when oreo gets dropped to the device. It seems like they went with 2 for MM; 4 for Nougat; and hopefully 5 for Oreo. Every carrier seems to be updating the bootloader version about 5 months before the actual release of the new OS...maybe that means that Sprint will be the first to receive Oreo.

Thanks so much for the great info!
If we wait for oreo and it has bootloader 5 then it will be great assuming we do not update the sprint oreo first potentially changing the bootloader version number again. Would be great but I guess now we will just wait and see

Did we ever get an update on this?
I bought my s8 today. I am on security patch of April. Whenever i tap on software update it says latest software already installed. My brother's s8 on the other hand is on October security patch. When i try to use Bixby voice it says update software to latest to use it. Pics below.

What kind of s8? Is it through a carrier? I have the same problem with AT&T branded. I called AT&T and after they tried to push the update to my phone after getting my IMEI and SIM info verified, nothing happened. They referred me to Samsung. Samsung said I could drive to a Best Buy an hour a way and they could load the latest software in the store. In other words, no one really is accepting responsibility for it. I am basically at the point now where I've decided to flash the updates myself.

I have identified the issue. My S8 is on UK firmware whereas my brother's is on Indian cuz he got dual sim. Is there any way to update to a global firmware or a firmware that gets updates everytime?

I'm by no means an expert, but as I understand it, all carrier branded updates go from Samsung to the carriers and from the carriers to your phone. Only unlocked comes from Samsung to you. (anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).
If your carrier isn't pushing the update to you it could be because the carrier is not sending you the update because of the SIM issue if there's a mismatch in their system. There may be other reasons too, but that seems to be a common one.
Otherwise if you want to update firmware and it's not being sent to your phone, I believe the only alternative is doing it yourself. Check this forum for more advice.

That firmware AQDG is old, from like April this year. You can download a different firmware or an updated UK firmware from updato.com and update with Odin. Knox will not be tripped.
I'm new to the LG Ecosystem and I have a few questions.
I have an LG G6 H870 from Entel in Chile, its currently on Android 7.
1) Can I flash it to something like the OPEN EU images which are newer?
Because they're all H870's are they the exact same hardware, meaning the functionality on different H870 kdzs should work fine? The Entel doesnt even have a 2018 release yet so I don't have great confidence they will update the LG G6.
2) Does flashing a KDZ affect the boot loader?
If I unlocked the bootloader for rooting would flashing the KDZ back reset it back to locked?
3) Is it safe to flash a KDZ via a virtual machine? The LG Bridge app wont detect my phone on Mac no matter what I try (High Sierra), (adb is fine iv tried the drivers etc), however it shows up when I connect it to a Windows 7 VM.
4) Is it likely that when the official Oreo 8.1 update comes it would be better to switch to something like an OPEN EU or UK image?
Or even just flash the new 8.1 KDZ when its available?
5) If I rooted and flashed something like LineageOS, can I easily go back to any of the KDZs with the LG tool?
I noticed theres an "error link which seems to download a KDZ for resetting your phone. Does that work off some kind of internal hardware serial, meaning that if things are ever soft-bricked I could just hit that button and go back to square one no problems?
6) Anything else I should be aware of or concerned about if I want to play with flashing different KDZs or custom roms? I dont care about warranty e.g. unlocked bootloader.
7) Whats the best tool for unlocking bootloader and gaining root these days, I know theres a tonne of AIO tools and things like KingRoot. Any suggestions from other LG G6 modders?

1) If it's just an "H870" than yes, it should be fine.
2) You cannot unlock the bootloader. Only unbranded US997 and European H870 can.
3) Never tried, it should, but in this i cannot give you a certain answer.
4) 8.1? We don't know it'll be 8.1. Anyway it's always better to flash the right firmware for your region.
5) You cannot do any kind of modding on your device atm, see the 2nd answer.
6) Flashing a wrong kdz could hard brick your device, so be careful on names. For the warranty you're good to go, you cannot do any kind of modding.
7) For G6 there is no "best" tool, there is only ONE way to unlock the bootloader but it won't work on your model (as explained in the 2nd answer), other tools like KingRoot don't work at all.
Bonus answer: No, flashing an european firmware won't allow you to unlock the bootloader.

I have found out the hard way that there are several versions of the model US997 variant of the LG G6:
https: //lg-firmwares.c o m/lg-us997-firmwares/firmwares/
(I apologize that the forum's spam filters are preventing me from posting a working link. Just take out the spaces.)
There is a USA unlocked version, two US cellular versions, two "Brightpoint" versions (whatever that is), and an Amazon version. And they all share the same model number. This is quite confusing because with most phones, usually there is only one version per model number. If your phone is stuck on Android Nougat, chances are you're like me and you're on the USA unlocked version of this phone, not the US Cellular version. The US Cellular and Brightspot versions have all been updated to Oreo and the latest update was in September 2018.
I have no idea why LG isn't upgrading the USA unlocked version. It was very frustrating when I bought it used and found out it was still stuck on Nougat, which I was not expecting.

Actually the US Unlocked version has gotten the update and it's bootloader unlockable... My phone is the US997Z which is the US Cellular version. I believe you have to be connected to their service to be able to receive the update through their towers. I went ahead a upgraded my LG G6 with the US unlocked version kdz as the @HueyT mentions above. Update went great using LG up and uppercut no set back going through the update. If you need help I would happily help you out. Because I was in the same boat as you.

It's very strange that some versions of the LG G6 "US997" are not updated to Oreo yet and other ones with this version are. But if there is anyone out there reading this, you know know there is a workaround and you can force your computer to update the firmware on your LG G6 with the official LG ROM that runs Android Oreo.
For the $254 I paid for this phone used, with a case and the original charger, I can live with a phone that I have to update manually if I won't get OTA updates for some reason. And I did not break the phone's security because I'm still able to use Google Pay and online banking.
Just bought this phone about a week ago, it is an Unlocked AT&T Model. It tells me basically that it does not need a OS Update - that it has the Latest 8.0. I am giving up on LG Support already!
Using their APK to update via USB told me that it cannot even check the Version of the OS, so definitely NO Update for this SUCKER!
Can anyone here PLEASE help me find a way to UPDATE this nice Smart Phone?
THANKS!

This is what LG's response is to me about getting my AT&T Unlocked V35 Updated fm A. 8.0:
Hi Michael, we appreciate your time in getting back to us. I will be happy to assist you today.
In response to your inquiry, for carrier unlocked phones, the only way to get it updated is, you need to have a service again with the original service provider for them to send or push the Software update to your phone. While LG has no control with the software updates for carrier unlock phones, compared to manufacture unlock phones it automatically receives the software updates that was released OTA (Over the Air).
I hope I have provided all the information and wish it has been helpful in addressing your query. It has been a pleasure to help you out to the best of my knowledge and my skills.
Should you have any other questions, please feel free and don't hesitate to contact us again via Email, Live Chat, or Phone by calling 1-800-793-8896. As this email is used for outgoing mail only, you may send file attachments, replies, any information and further inquiries over to the email section of support https://www.lg.com/us/support/email-appointment and we will do our best to assist you without you having to repeat the details of your previous message.
Thank you for choosing LG Electronics!

AT&T for better and cheaper service from T-Mobile and now I have to go back....guess I will and if/when they upgrade this NICE phone I will leave dem again!
Or as I suggested, you simply cross flash to North American Open Market (NAO) firmware via Dev Patched LGUP.
You can also try temporarily putting in an AT&T SIM card (not even activated) and that can trigger AT&T update, if left for a few hours.
But people in other countries just cross flash to NAO as they don't need AT&T firmware whatsoever.

Sincerely,
Johannes
I have to leave T-Mobile [cheaper/better] and go to AT&T - RATS!

Yes, people report AT&T SIM card will do the trick. Either prepaid or postpaid, they are both the same. Supposedly they don't have to be activated -- as long as you have AT&T firmware on your phone.
Some say a Red Pocket (AT&T MVNO) SIM card will, also. While Cricket (owned by AT&T) SIM card will not.

Called Best Buy to see IF I could pay someone there to Flash my V35, like you recommend, but they are not allowed to do things like that. Turning to Craig's List now.
Hey buddy, it's easy to do yourself. Just follow this comment and the linked guide. Process is the same. Super simple and straightforward. Let me know if you have any questions.

Latest firmware for the V35 now (AT&T does have an early version of the Android 10 update, but kdz not released. We have to wait for a ULM kdz to be released to flash the 10 and update. Until then we're on Android 9 still) is the 04/2020 update. Sort by date on lg-firmwares.com, for device choose LMV350ULM, you want the ULM as its the unlocked carrier free version of the V35, and crossflashing the AT&T version is completely safe (I'm using an AT&T V35 in Canada on Koodo with the ULM software). In the software list choose GFI or USA (I'd recommend the USA version, unless you're on google fi).

Buy one of these AT&T SIM cards. Less than $3 with free shipping.
Leave it in overnight, see if the OTA update shows up.
Keep your T-Mobile. This is just to trigger the update.

THANKS for Great Suggestion, I looked over the LINKS etc. and bookmarked but at my age etc., I am alot more TECH SAVY than probably most 81 yr olds BUT I just don't feel confident enough trying to follow all of those instructions, wish I did....know it appears SIMPLE, but I just paid for this NICE Phone and would HATE to BRICK it!
BTW...just abit ago I got notice you sent me a PM but when I tried to open it [SORRY] I guess my Blocker blocked it and sent it into
CyberSpace or something....can't seem to find it now. I just followed ChazzMatt's TIP - and ordered a $2.99 ATT Sim Card to put into my LG V35 to hopefully trigger aN UPDATE. Laters, Michael
Just follow this video for upgrading your V35 to latest firmware
so, (directed toward Chazzmatt) I'm just needing a recommendation on which one to do (or wait for). Ive got the ATT unlocked model on MetrobyTMobile. (LM-V350AWM) I first updated it via modified LGUP to V350ULM20d (V350ULM20d_00_NAO_US_OP_0612), then to V350ULM20f (V350ULM20f_00_NAO_US_OP_0218). ((it still shows as V350AWM in the sys info, but all bloatware is gone))
Now, a while back I went into an ATT store and got them to sell me an un-activated sim card, and tried to update that way and failed (not knowing you had to wait a couple hours or overnight). My question is, would the simcard ota update work for me, and if so, would it be the full blown bloated att version of 10.
Or, should I just keep patiently waiting for the NAO KDZ (V350ULM30?) like you've been screaming for us to do since the very beginning! lol
(apologies for the gratuitous use of parentheses)
*Update - They're now saying we will be getting LG's new Velvet UI, should I wait even longer for that to be released???

The AT&T SIM card trick only works if you still have AT&T firmware installed.
If you cross flashed to another V35 firmware you need to wait for that KDZ to be released. It's coming. LG is just slow. Same deal last year with Pie.

ah, thanks for clearing that up! I'm guessing we might have to wait even longer now that they've announced we'll be getting Velvet UI and need time to add that to the KDZ, or is the UI update something that will come later on?
