QJ3 <stock sprint> updated the bootloader from v4 to v5. Just a heads up for those of you wanting to flash the U firmware and getting errors.
So, probably a dumb question, but what do I need to do to avoid the errors? I messed up trying to flash a T-Mobile rom right after updating the firmware, and now I can't boot. I can get to download mode, but can't find a firmware that will flash without failing.
From what reading I've done, I need to find a newer firmware than the one that was on my phone originally, but I can't seem to find anything that will work.

You should be able to flash QJ3 or maybe the latest tmob one. Check sammobile or updato... Just checked, not posted yet. Have you tried a Google search for the qj3 firmware?

Thank you, I wasn't sure what the latest version is so that helps. I did try flashing the latest T-Mo and Sprint firmwares on both Sammobile and updato.com, but it looks like neither are newer than QJ3 so I guess that's my problem. I'll just search or wait to find a new version posted. This phone isn't a daily driver so it's not critical right now.

I had the same issue and just loaded the latest PIT. It allowed me to start my phone with my old Sprint OS.
Here is a version of the QJ3 zip for odin.

Thanks so much, this worked perfectly.
Has anyone tried going to the u firmware via pit file? I remember this working in the past. You have to flash the version pit file and previous stock rom, then you could flash the u rom.
Is there any way to downgrade bootloader from P version and then install U version?

Maybe. About a year ago, you could load a PIT file. Not sure if that method works with the newest bootloader. @spamforme mentioned something about it a few posts ago.

Right now there is no way to downgrade to install the U version software. Sprint upgraded to the version 5 bootloader and is the only carrier in the US to do so, so you can't install any other carrier software on your S7 or S7 Edge right now once you have Sprint software installed on it. I have a SM-G930U I took to sprint this past July under the 1 year free service before taxes promotion. Fully unlocked version I purchased online, after having trouble installing a Sprint sim, I had to go in to the store to get the phone to activate.
Once activated Sprint sim locked my unlocked phone(found this out 2 months later when I tried to put another sim in it.) At this point it was still running the SM-G930U Unlocked firmware. I escalated a sim unlock request in September, 2 months pasted and they still didn't unlock my phone. I ended up having to go back in to a Sprint Store to facilitate the unlock, and during that process the Sprint store, flashed my phone to 5BQJ3, that being said, after they did that to unlock my phone they were unable to put the Unlocked firmware back on the phone in the store, I have failed to put the unlocked firmware back on my phone since also, I have escalated this to Samsung, as my phone is under warranty and Samsung say there is nothing they can do. So Sprint sim locked my unlocked phone, and during the process of getting my sim unlocked phone back unlocked, they hijacked my phones software and put all the sprint bloatware and malware on my S7 SM-G930U unlocked phone, and it can't be removed currently as Sprint is the only carrier using bootloader 5 in the US.
I ended up filling out a complaint with the FCC about this last week, and waiting for Sprint to respond as the FCC filed the complaint with Sprint on December 22, 2017. and they have 30 days to respond. But I have tried everything I can think of to get the phone back to the U version software without any resolve. As far as I am concerned Sprint owes me a replacement Samsung Galaxy S7 Unlocked phone or newer model, and right now the only "Unlocked" variant Samsung phone Sprint even stocks is the new S8 Active SM-G892U phone which is the same phone for Sprint as it is for T-Mobile; but we shall see what happens I am not holding my breath with Sprint and will probably just have to take them to small claims court for the replacement cost of my phone as it is cheaper than submitting a formal grievance with the FCC is the informal one doesn't solve the issue.
is there any other carrier firmware with the same bootloader version that i can flash to? i need a phone for Verizon, i'm stuck on the sprint firmware. there's a band that is disabled on the sprint one. hopefully one of the others, if there is one available, will have the bands needed enabled.

Wow - nice persistence following up with FCC! Would love to hear how that gets resolved. I'm also stuck with a 930P v5 bootloader and no way to install 930U firmware. What is the best way to track 930U firmware bootloader versions so that I know if/when v5 is released?

G930UUES4BQL1 is bootloader 4.
G930UUEU2APG9 is bootloader 2.
G930PVPU5BQJ3 is bootloader 5.
At the end, go 5 digits back and you will get the boot binary version. So when the U firmware gets to G930UXXX5XXXX it should be good to go. Based on the U history, it looks like the bootloader will get updated if/when oreo gets dropped to the device. It seems like they went with 2 for MM; 4 for Nougat; and hopefully 5 for Oreo. Every carrier seems to be updating the bootloader version about 5 months before the actual release of the new OS...maybe that means that Sprint will be the first to receive Oreo.

Thanks so much for the great info!
If we wait for oreo and it has bootloader 5 then it will be great assuming we do not update the sprint oreo first potentially changing the bootloader version number again. Would be great but I guess now we will just wait and see

Did we ever get an update on this?
Related
Hi,
I have read through a bunch of threads but have not seen my exact situation but I think I know what I have to do but want to get some advice from the experts here.
I purchased an AT&T branded phone an activated on AT&T a year ago. We needed to switch to Verizon so I got the unlock code from AT&T and switched no problem. As part of the switch Samsung has a BYOD feature that changes some of the software and menus from AT&T to Verizon. It was actually pretty cool because it removed the ATT apps loaded some VZW instead. Below is a link that describes the feature if you are not familiar:
Enjoy the Freedom of BYOD
So all is mostly good except I believe the menu change to update the firmware OTA is pointing to VZW and not ATT. When I run the update check it just says no updated needed. Looking at VZW they have updated their latest OTA version on August 1st here G950USQU5CRH1 so I know it is not trying to update to that.
ATT just released their version today August 30th here G950USQS5CRH1 but that is not updating either.
I will try this again over the next couple days to see if the updater is smart enough to find the ATT version but I am guessing I am probably in no man's land and will need to update manually using SamMobile or Updato or something else.
Any thoughts are very much appreciated.
Thank you.
I have tried a number of things like all the Verizon tools, Smart Switch, etc. and nothing will trigger a download.
I am downloading the only file from SamMobile that looks like the same version on the AT&T site but is says it is Verizon hopefully that will not matter. I will try to flash it with Odin and see what happens.
As an alternate I chatted with Samsung and they gave me the address of the a Best Buy in my area that will update the firmware for me. I guess some of the BB have Samsung techs in them. Kind of a pain but at least there is a back up.
Not sure if anyone is following this but I thought I would close this out. All options have failed.
Not even Samsung at Best Buy can flash the firmware since in their tool my phone shows up as VZW/VZW/ATT. So what I thought was a cool feature of the BYOD changing carriers only cripples the phone from an Update perspective, what a bad design. I would change carrier firmware as in some of the guides here but the problem is that I do not have G950U1 or G950U2. I have G950US which the older guides do not address.
I am either going to buy a prepaid ATT card but I hate to give those horrible people another dime or I will sell this phone and maybe just get Samsung branded like others in my family and they get updates from Samsung or go get an iPhone. I dislike iPhones a lot but at least Apple does not let the carriers screw around with their firmware.
Solved! Not sure why this site never showed up in my previous searches here or on the web.
https://samsung.firmware.science
Found the latest 2 OTA updates and applied them perfectly.
Well I can't say I've ran into this problem, but I to use ATT and am looking to eventually move to VZW, so I really appreciate your time and effort in making this thread as this isnt something I would have thought of myself. Also, that website is kick a**! thanks for sharing that
I was an ATT customer for 14 years on my wireless. The migration on the family 2 iPhones, 1 Samsung unlocked S8+ and my ATT S8 went perfect. I am the only one that had the firmware update problem because the other devices get updates directly from Apple of course and Samsung for the S8+.
My experience so far with VZW is excellent! For our family plan it was a little cheaper but our main reason fro moving was the network quality. Verizon in my area is so far ahead of ATT it is really shocking. Great call quality and data and coverage is fantastic. We had so many problems with ATT not sure why I stayed so long. They gave me a piece of junk Microcell to try and fix the issues at my house but even when we go to the ATT store that is 1 mile away, they do not even get wireless service in the store. They all have to use WiFi calling.
I have to really be impressed to recommend a company but VZW technology is well worth it for me. We will see how the rest to the customer services is.
What happened with the firmware you flashed with Odin? You can go to Updato.com and Download G950U or U1 firmware which is MUCH faster than the hours Sammobile takes. With newer firmware you can flash any carriers firmware (Go to Updato and download VZW firmware for example) because your phone installs the necessary files depending on the sim card you're running. Been that way for quite a while now.
Be careful with Firmware science as some of those builds aren't what is released so when a newer update does drop from VZW you wont get it again because you have a conflicting build number. Then you'll be back here asking why. Also, every time there's an updated firmware on FW Science you'll have to reinstall everything as flashing that update.zip wipes the phone post install. It gets really old.

Hi thanks for your input, I have 1 question to you, as I understand from your post you are talking about if mobile is already on VRZ firmware but have issue with OTA update? am I right? if not could you be so kind to tell me I'm on AT&T firmware G892AUCS3BRG1 (AT&T OREO Firmware) can I somehow switch to VRW or some other carrier? in addition, I have no Verizon sim and no AT&T sim as well I'm in Georgia and in our area, there are no such operators.
from my perspective it is good to have TMB firmware this would be the best option for me if it is possible
thank you in advance for your cooperation

Hi
I already did and nothing changed, that is the reason why i replyed
I purchased a US Cellular branded Tab S3 to use on AT&T when I found out they sell them unlocked. I also recently wanted Oreo on it and after some digging found US Cellular still hasn't released an update but there was one from Turkey and one from VzW. I tried to find a concrete yes/no if I can flash other variants of the T827 models firmware without luck so figured I'd roll the dice on it myself. This weekend I tracked down the VzW Oreo firmware and used Odin to install it on my US Cell Tab. The first round I had a couple of errors and for a second thought I had a new paper weight, but kept calm and ran through the process again and it worked!
Just a note:
At first boot it will say the SIM is invalid and to put in a VzW SIM, but you can click ok and keep going. Once done setting up on wifi you can then go into settings and add the AT&T APN and connect over cell.
Could you post where you got the VZW image? I'd like to try this. I can't believe USC hasn't updated their tabs yet. I'm tired of asking when the update will arrive!

Not sure that was a good idea. If indeed you did manage to flash the VZW bootloader then the tablet is now likely bootloader locked with no way of returning to its original state.

Was this verified to be the case? Also would the verizon combination file work on the uscelluar tablet? I picked up a cheap SM-T827R4 that is FRP locked. I am waiting to hear back from the original owner if they would be willing to bypass the verification for me.

I was able to flash the combo file for the SM-T827V (Verizon version of the Tab S3) to bypass the FRP lock. I used the one on gsm-firmware.com After which I was able to reflash the uscelluar firmware from sammobile. I don't know if this is exactly the same as the OP's method, but hope it helps someone else out in the future.

Sorry for the late reply on this. I downloaded the image files from sammobile and installed them with odin. I've been up and running on Oreo (VzW branded) since my post and have had no issues or reasons to flash to anything else. I have tried to run an update but it says it can't register, which i assume is because it's hitting the VzW servers w an ATT SIM from a USC device!

You just need to put a Verizon SIM in it once (and so far only once) to check for updates. The SIM doesn’t even need to be provisioned. Then you can check for updates with your normal SIM.
I’ve had a VZW Tab S3 for over a year that I have been using with AT&T. I updated to Oreo without any issues with my AT&T SIM installed.
Wanted to first say thanks for the tip -- and echo that The T827R4 does in accept the Verizon Oreo firmware via the latest version of Odin, though with a build just a few releases behind it threw an error and would not flash.
I guess if we can't have root we may as well have Oreo.
Samemobile has the January security update Oreo

You're right about Verizon firmware running really smooth. Much better than the US Cellular firmware. After flashed VZ firmware, the model changed to SM-T827V.
in case anyone has the us cellular model, you really don't need to flash the verizon firmware because the us cellular model has a more updated firmware than the verizon model.
the model is actually SM-T827R4, oreo with apr 2019 security and OTA update works too.
though no pie update yet (same as verizon)
So these can't be flashed to the stock 820 pie rom?

Device is unlocked and I finally got to move over to T Mobile. Went through HELL however got it done and was well worth it. Speed is like 100 times better ( was getting .01 DL speed on Sprint and now its 20.0 MB!!!! Long story with a different thread about it right here on the XDA if you are interested.
New problem is that I have just read online about Sprint coming like a month later after you moved over to T Mobile and re locking your S7 after its working on T Mobile (https://community.sprint.com/t5/Pro...longer-accepting-TMobile-sim-card/m-p/1023474).. They then allegedly fix the problem but I naturally want to prevent it all together.
Any way to make sure they can't do this to my paid off device?
Should I flash the G930T firmware or the G930P T-Mobile variant? Or maybe I should just stay with the latest Sprint version which is the one that is running right now?
Im on v9 bootloader so Ill have to wait if the best is the G930P T-Mobile variant Firmware. in order to prevent Sprint from relocking my device.. Theres currently a Virgin Mobile, 2 Unknowns and a Sprint variant for the v9 bootloader https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7/SM-G930P/.
Any insight into any of this is highly appreciated. Thanks.

I moved to cricket and my phone didn't relock. I would either Odin the T-Mobile if on 9 or the U firmware, since it is on 9.
Hello. I wanted to ask about a problem that I have experienced with the S10+, which I know others have experienced as well, and hope there is a solution out there for it. I purchased the S10+ directly from Samsung, as they were offering a much better trade-in deal. However, I did purchase the AT&T version.
That being said..aside from the 2 fingerprint reader updates Samsung has issued, I have never received an OTA update from AT&T. Not a single one. I've had to come here to XDA, hope that someone posts the latest update files, and update using Odin. It appears that those files are being posted less and less. I'm "stuck" on ASGB update, with the July 1 Security patch.
Does anybody have any advice, or suggestions on how I could go about getting regular OTA updates? Or is there other recommendations on what to do here? I know there are many others that have this same problem.

Thanks in advance

Are you using an AT&T SIM card? If you purchased an AT&T model AT&T sends OTA updates whether you got it from AT&T or Samsung. If you aren't using an AT&T SIM they won't send you any OTA updates and Samsung only sends OTA updates to the carrier free versions of the phones.
Yes, using an AT&T SIM card. In fact, I went to the local store and requested a brand new sim, just in case. That obviously didn't work either.

All US S10+'s are the same. There is no such thing as a AT&T or Verizon phone on the S10+. That being said you can load any rom from any vendor on your phone. If you want to stick with AT&T and don't mind their bloat apps you can go to www.sammobile.com and download the latest AT&T rom and load it with Qdin. Make sure your sim card is installed when you reboot and you will have an AT&T phone when it is done.

Prior to August or September firmware on the S10+ was not all-inclusive. If you used an unlocked AT&T S10+ with a different carrier's SIM the AT&T firmware stayed rather than updating to accommodate the inserted SIM card. AT&T doesn't send OTA updates to phones running AT&T firmware if a non-AT&T SIM is inserted and as long as the AT&T firmware is installed AT&T is the only place you can get an OTA update from. You can't even update with SmartSwitch because it will show that you have the latest firmware regardless of how old it is.
I purchased an unlocked AT&T S10+ in early July that was on the February security patch and have a T-mobile SIM. The only way I could get software updates was to manually flash the U1 carrier free firmware with Odin. Immediately after flashing that firmware multiple OTA updates showed up for my phone.

AT&T offers a modded version of SmartSwitch that you can download from their website. You might be able to update to the most current AT&T firmware using their software which is called AT&T SmartSwitch. The standard Samsung SmartSwitch program doesn't access AT&T servers and won't update phones with AT&T firmware.

Why did I have to pick the carrier when purchasing the phone via Samsung? I could have selected the unlocked version, or any of the american carriers. I have the AT&T model. I see the logo when I boot up, and have all their bloatware apps. So that's not the issue. The issue is why haven't I received an OTA update, ever?
I use this threadhttps://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s10/how-to/att-ota-ota-updates-t3909697 to manually update. The OP hasn't posted any new versions in a while.

Your OTA updates come from AT&T since you are their customer and purchased the AT&T model instead of the carrier free one. You should really be asking AT&T why you aren't receiving OTA updates.
You might be able to update using AT&T SmartSwitch which you can download from AT&T's website.

I've tried contacting AT&T numerous times. They have no idea what the issue is. A quick google search shows the Smart switch tool in AT&T, but when you try and click on the link, it just takes you to a blank page.
Newer firmware is all-inclusive so you could download firmware with Frija and flash it with modified Odin even if it isn't AT&T firmware. The problem is that if you flash a build number AT&T didn't actually use on their devices you still won't get OTA updates from AT&T because their servers won't recognize the software version you are running.

Have you tried the standard Samsung SmartSwitch program? Maybe it can update AT&T firmware now but it didn't in the past.

If your phone is not carrier locked you could flash the U1 firmware and then you would get OTA updates from Samsung instead of AT&T. But you might not have access to some AT&T services like visual voicemail without AT&T firmware. AT&T also hates unlocked phones so it's possible Volte and Wi-Fi Calling will stop working. Some AT&T customers with unlocked phones were able to get the services activated by calling AT&T but success with AT&T Customer Service is hit or miss at best as you already discovered.
I have the same problem I have been able to update my S10 + AT&T through ODIN, because I cannot update using FOTA, I have the September security patch specifically "G975USQS2ASI6", I want to update to the October patch, but I do not receive the update via FOTA, because I do not use AT&T SIM but I am abroad using with another SIM.
I can Flashear with ODIN to the U1 version that is unlocked, I will not have any problem, I am not interested in losing any AT&T service because I do not use any, I just want to have my S10 + free of Bloatware and always receive updates via FOTA.
I found this Firmware is Sammobile "https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s10-plus/firmware/SM-G975U1/ATT/download/G975U1UEU2BSIP/298471/"
It is the most recent update of AT&T that they have on the official website, but it is G975U1 unlocked and not the G975U. If Flash this version will I have any problem freezing or ruining my phone?

No G975U1 and G975U firmware are interchangeable. If your phone was still carrier locked you might get a message asking for the unlock code but you aren't using an AT&T SIM so your phone obviously isn't network locked. I went from AT&T G975U firmware to U1 firmware with no problems.
Im glad I'm not the only one experiencing this. My wife and I did a bogo deal for the Galaxy s10+ back in March. My phone has recieved updates regularly, while my wife's phone is still on the March patch and security. She hasn't even recieved the fingerprint update fix. Tried calling AT&T about it and they were totally unhelpful. Told me I had to contact Samsung about that and that they couldn't help with the issue. Im debating on calling them back and trying to speak with someone more knowledgeable, but it might just be easier for me to update her phone manually. I haven't had to do something like that in ages, so I wanted to ask for some guidance on here.
Would i need to do each consecutive update she's missed manually? Or would just updating to the newest firmware outright do the trick?

Hey do you have the G975USQS2ASI6 ODIN files? I have been looking all over for it to flash it to my phone.
I just want to note, I am also in the same boat and it's INCREDIBLY frustrating. Both phones purchased in March with the BOGO deal, both phones stuck on the July 1st security patch. Supposedly what I've found after reading quite a bit is you can bring the phone to a local samsung repair center and they can flash the newest firmware, once you're up to date SUPPOSEDLY that resolves the OTA stuff. I don't believe it though.
Bought "Unlocked" phone, has sprint branding, seller insists that's how Samsung works
Hi everyone, I bought a Galaxy S10+SM-G975U (same model that all 4 major US networks use) that was sold as "Unlocked" without specifying that it is Sim unlocked, Network unlocked, or Factory unlocked. Most of the time unless a seller specifies which unlocked then it means the phone is Factory unlocked, I gathered this from 9 years of buying and selling Android devices so it's not just a guess.
When I got the phone Sprint OMADM pops up and tells me I have an incomplete activation, "about phone" told me it was Sprint Network Unlocked; after a week it now says unknown under "Brand" in the "status" section.
The seller said that when you buy a factory unlocked Samsung phone and put in a network sim card that Samsung then loads the branding (bloat in my opinion).
1. Is this true that Samsung could have loaded Sprint OMADM?
2. If true can I remove it so that I don't have to "Force Stop" it after each startup?
3. Is there any piece of software or database that I can look up the origin of this phone so that I can either change my eBay review of the sale and apologize for my mistake, or affirm that indeed the seller failed to disclose branding that he knew wouldn't go away when a buyer puts in an ATT simcard such as I have.
I've read one single thread by a user and not a Samsung official that claims that you can pop in a network sim card and then restart to change some software but I have not found even one more thread mentioning this phenomenon.
My background:
I've bought factory unlocked my Moto Pure X and a OnePlus 5 and neither did any ridiculous **** when I switched networks, so that's why I doubt this claim.
I bought a AT&T branded one for use on TMobile. It kept popping up errors. I flashed the unlocked firmware and it works great. I get unlocked updates and everything. You'll need to look on here but there's a walkthrough somewhere. But there are a few advantages for running the carrier branded version so you could flash the AT&T firmware instead. I wanted less bloat so I went with the unlocked one.
Think this might be the thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/how-to/sm-g975u-firmware-downloads-tmo-spr-att-t3908657
That said after I did all this I did read there was going to be a update to the firmware which would do what you described.... Switching firmware based on the sim card. Never seen it happen on mine still on unlocked unbranded firmware. Maybe this phone is running old firmware prior to the update that implemented this?
not normal. LIke you, I purchased an 'unlocked' phone and when I powered on, it was a Verizon phone. I popped in my TMo sim, and it worked OK, but I would get the annoying Verizon popups reminding me that I'm on on their network. I installed the unlocked firmware and it went away.
But there's more: when the phone had a problem, I sent it back to Samsung under warranty (still unlocked) and when it was returned, I just installed the original sim and powered on. Now it seems to be a TMo phone, and when I look at the phone's software version, it shows TMB/TMB/VZW. It's been receiving OTA updates and I've disabled bloatware, so I'm OK with it.
Just to be clear I'm not going to flash anything. I'll just turn around and sell it. I need a stable phone for work and I used to mess around with flashing different roms and while it was fun it was a frequent activity and I don't have time for all the annoying trouble this phone has been. Thanks everyone.
Flashing rom is different from flashing a stock firmware. In your case the only way to be completely off from the previous network you are getting the notification from is to flash a G975U1 or G975U stock firmware which is unbranded or your network branded respectively and you are good to go. I switched my yesterday and am okay ?. I will be happy to assist should you change your mind
