Not really software support from LG is terrible, Pie update drains battery. Using custom ROM helps a bit. Only few ROM development is active (Havoc, Pixel Experience Plus, Lineage). Unless you want to use it with Nougat, which has best battery life. Even budget phones runs faster then LG G6.

Hi Guys,
I was annoyed by the occasional lags and stutter I experienced, in the search of some setting which could improve the performance, i stumbled around this setting.
Settings->Display->Home Screen-> Smart Bulletin ( Disable)
And after that!! I don't know if it is Magic, the phone response is AMAZING!!
Let me know if this worked out for all!!!
Edit 1 : I am using LG stock as default Launcher
Edit 2: My Model is H818-N. Anyone who is using International model, can they try this?
I don't have any "smart screen" under home screen settings.

It won't make G4 much faster or any faster I should say. I'm at 1x and it works almost as fast as S6 set on disabled. Even on marshmallow G4 is well optimised phone. To really improve responsiveness unlock bootloader and flash custom kernel and set performance profiles

That switch off all animations in Developer is rubbish since I really like animations as standard. I hate LG since 1.5 years for not releasing our bootloaders to be unlocked! Once there's root, I would install from Play Store L Speed/Entropy/fstrim apps so that for a SD 808 device should be a lag free experience! Obviously the LG G5 with SD 820 is powerful and snappy that defeats the laggy Galaxy S7 & Note 7 (both Exynos & Snapdragon versions are laggy) Can't wait for the amazing LG G6 even with the slightly older SD 821 which is the best till SD 835 is out. We know why the Google Pixel & One Plus 3T is amazing all due to the SD 821! Also badly wanted a custom kernel for the G4 for smooth performance and change the values of charge current the way you want! During the good old days of Galaxy S3, I used Boeffla custom kernel and it charged seriously with full voltage with screen on! On USB it was on 900mA and all wall adaptor 1500mA which was really above the limit for the Galaxy S3 on Boeffla Kernel! I'm really upset to see the G4 having very less development!

Galaxy S3 is Galaxy S3. Nothing will beat it and I'm pretty sure if something will, it won't be LG for sure. I also miss my S3... If not old android version I wouldn't have switched to G4 but if LG won't release Nougat I think I'll get back to my beloved S3 <3

Hi all,
New here; long time silent follower/downloader but never posted.
I had a couple of handsets spare in the house and lately have been a bit sick of iOS so decided to dust off the old OPO and G3, and to flash a custom Nougat ROM. I thought I'd end up using the OPO as it's higher spec than the G3.
I've installed AOSP-CAF 7.1 on both phones, with stock Open-GApps.
The interesting thing is that despite the OPO having 50% more RAM and the exact same CPU, the D855 feels much snappier and gives a better user experience. Any ideas on why? Is it the kernel? Bummer at the minute as I'll be forced to use the G3, even though it only has 16GB and 2GB, also with the lower res front camera. With the display being higher res as well, I'd have expected the OPO to trounce the G3! Any ideas?
Thanks!
Change ROM ?
Or change the kernel :highfive:
Seriously, I think that is due to the kernel settings. Sometimes (i remember on Omnirom),some roms need other kernel settings to feel better and smoother

Why? I was wanting something stable & fast; I gather Lineage has bluetooth & Android Auto issues which are both deal breakers for me.

That's what I thought too, but when I got the ROM running on the G3 it was definitely smoother. Any suggestions for ROMs/Kernels?
Definitely want Nougat and definitely minimalist/stock Gapps. Don't like the funky custom looks on a lot of builds.

No,Bluetooth works perfectly fine. Moreover if you encounter any other issues, the developer of this rom is kind enough to fix it for you.
Had a look through the thread for it, looks promising. All this though, and I dropped the OPO last night. The repair shop has it now, and they've never heard of one. Won't read the sim. Eeek.

Hello,
When do you think we will have LineageOS for our device? Unofficial or official? Thanks.
That's a good question. Let the experts about ROM development say something
Sent from my Mi A1 using Tapatalk
Well, I'm no expert but Xiaomi needs to release the kernel source before we start seeing custom ROMs. They said they would do it in three months. So, let's wait and see.
The phone is pretty accessible and runs under the android one frechise so, just wait till they release the sources.
When kernel sources are released, im sure custom ROMs will start to roll out.
I really hope guys!

What we need is a custom Kernel first , This phone is Awesome but the score is worse than Redmi Note 3 ?! That's not fair

It's because the Redmi Note 3 has a better CPU "Snapdragon 650" vs The Mi A1 "Snapdragon 625"
what's really weird is that Xiaomi downgrade the CPU on the newer phone "Redmi Note 4" to the Snapdragon 625

Benchmark score doesn't matter and by the way Redmi Note 3 does have a faster processor but it is not power efficient and heats up more than 625.

The SD625 is built on 14nm process whereas the SD650 is built on 28nm process(older, gets heated after playing for long sessions, and reduces its speed)

Why would you asking custom rom when you already have pure android, the stock one is definitely more stable, our software is actually already incredible only need more fixes on camera stability and some minor issues,I'd prefer asking for fixing the issues instead of build from the scratch

There can be multiple reasons. I am waiting for the sources in order to have a clean Lineage install with signature spoofing. That and microg on top to get rid of gapps.
Also, maybe some people like the customisation that exists in some particular roms.
+1, also waiting for LineageOS for this device.

waiting for lineageOS
hello dudes, i've been that kind of user that tries many mods and reads up about every possibility, but now sadly i have no more time for it :c (uni+work+gf+everything else)
i'm running an s7edge exy with stock rom and i'm considering switching to a custom one. actually battery life on stock is still amazing but i miss root features (and i totally hate that hecking youtube premium ad that keeps showing up) and that extra useful rotate suggestion button that came in pie.
what i'm more interested in are speed, battery and ad hoc features (always on, edge lighting, edge tabs): some friend of mine suggested me that pie performs alot better than oreo and now i'm asking: is waiting for 10 roms worth it or not (will it perform even better?) ?
would you suggest a stock rom or a samsung oneui based? is there any actual list to look up for?
ty alot ♥

Black diamond N8 v2 with Thunderstorms kernel 2.3 pie will be good for you. Good performance and battery.
If you want Android 10, Los 17 beta is out and in the coming weeks a stable version should be out.

Would you suggest to wait for LOS or not? I mean, it's just about stability or there is some difference in terms of performance (between Los and black diamond)?
(and why blackdiamond n8 instead of nfe? I can't find the difference but the nfe looks more updated, isn't it?)
I would rather go with a pure 8.0 Oreo ROM that looks like it used to look on Nexus 5X. Just pure Android. Does anyone know where can I find one?

The experience on N8 id way better and the experience is more fluid. Samsung basically made the Note FE pie firmware just because they had to because of the note 7 fiasco so the libs are not well optimized. N8 is a lot better imo.
As for LOS. I will recommend waiting for the stable release of LOS17. The beta version have bugs. I also don't recommend LOS16 because i haven't had a good experience on jt.
My go to configuration is N8 with Thunderstorm kernel.

Yes Los is based on Aosp and has no samsung crap.
Just clean android focused on performance and battery.
As fas as Oneui is Blanckdiamond is good.
Once OneUi2 is out for s10 series , developers will try to port it but porting android 10 to a legacy device is hard and i doubt s7 will get a fully stable build of OneUi2.
