Hello everyone,
I am looking to buy my first real smartwatch(I don't count garmin vivosmart HR as one), and I am looking to have really specific, very important notifications on it. To be honest I don't really know whats possible nowadays, and to research something this specific, it would take me a long time, so I am choosing the easy way out and hope the community with it's vast experience can help me out!
Here are the details on the notifications I'd like to receive:
1)From Gmail, from one address(account), from one or two specific sender only.
2)From text messages, the same as above, from a specific sender only.
3)From other, unpopular app, nothing specific but all the notifications.(Tradingview, but others too)
4)I would like these notifications above to be persistent. Ex. Vibrate until I acknowledge it, or to add a periodic reminder until I acnowledge it.
Additionaly:
a)I would like to get a watch that has a longer battery life. Preferably not daily charging.
b)Play nice with Android.
c)Don't have a budget preference, but ofc I strive for bang for my buck.
d)Mobile connection(LTE) would probably be interesting as backup solution but not a must.
I currently have a Note 9, and considering how much I love this phone, I will continue on the Note line further. But if there are better options out there than Samsung smartwatches, I have nothing against it.
Thanks in advance!
Ps: sorry if this isn't the right place for this!
Srsly, noone?
Garmin Forerunner 245,45,645 but no LTE
Fitbit Versa, no LTE
Fitbit Charge 3, no LTE
Ticwatch Pro no LTE version or 4G version
Of course most of Samsung Watch.

Hi Guys,
I am looking for an advise please.
i am not a power user and I am looking for a device with a large display in order to:
50% make calls
40% web browsing
10% emails
I tried the iphone this morning and I must say that I was amazed by the comfort in browsing the websites specially with the multitouch thing.
Know I understand that the Touch HD offers a larger display and more features but do you think that for an average user, this is a good choice compared to the iphone specially keeping in mind the multitouch advantages?
Thank you in advance for your feedback.
For you: iPhone

Hehe same thought.
Think the HD is for people who wants to spend time to configure the device to their needs.
So I also think that for you an Iphone would be best.
iPhone.
You might end up overwhelmed and confused by the sheer endless capabilities of Touch HD. It offers so many tools and things that took me as a pro some hours to even find them (e.g. WorldCard Mobile)! It is not difficult to use, but for the basic tasks you described, iPhone will get you there more quickly and efficient.

this tasks you can do good enough with the iPhone. Touch HD seems to be a real high-end device (hardware)... windows mobile is not very comfortable to use by fingers, for this reason htc offers the TouchFlo interface, but behind that you still have WM.
so, I agree with the posts above, iPhone for you!
IPhone
Me too, I'd say IPhone, although I'm rather a IPhone-hater. But the fact that its easily usable with the features from the begining on is really good for non-hardcore-user. But you should know that as you buy it, you'll not be able to configure much or expand the software much, you'll have the phone its whole "life" like it was at the begining. So, if you love the phone as it is in the shop in your hand, than buy it! You'll have meterw a device thats so easy and intuitive to use as the IPhone. I doubt even that wm7 will be a real competitior in usability to the IPhone. Oh my god, I am writing this?? *shocked* anyway, IPhone +1 have fun with it^^ greez, cad
Don't mean to throw a spanner in the works - but how about the G1.
The hardware may not be as savvy as the HD or iPhone, but the user interface is very good and slick.
The google browser is fantastic and quick !
You can also customise the look and feel of your interface more than on the iPhone, plus give it a few months and you'll get loads of juicy apps !
as long as you don't want to copy/paste any thing from your web browsing into an email and can live with deleting yr emails one at a time an iphone is great.
Go for iphone, great for web browsing, texting and calls. I had one few month ago, but for me I love WM and I think thats me
Hi in you place i think i would go to HTC Touch HD. Why?
You say that you use it this way:
50% make calls
40% web browsing
10% emails
That is things that this phone does without any special effort for configuring.
It as a bigger screen. Making web browsing more eye candy and efficient.
But the diference on this phone is that if you want something for future, i meant, if "tomorrow" you want more from the phone, the HD will allow you to more things for free. You can use GPS (with TomTom, etc..), Write/edit word docs, Share files with bluetooth, and lots of other things... anyone correct me if im wrong.
It´s up to you. This phone is really simple if just use the basics, and if you use TouchFlow 3D you wont get any problems with it.
For a Multimedia based phone, games go for iphone.
If you want a Multimedia (but games not like iphone) and also professional phone just go for the HTC Touch HD.
its just my opinion.
Sorry for my english lol
I also say that you should go for the iPhone. Personally i dont like it and i'm facing the same choice atm, but i'll definetly go for the Touch HD, cos i like what WinMo is offering.
Out of the box iPhone will do what you want and that's it.
Out of the box WinMo might not do everything you want but with some configuring, apps and love you can get it to do whatever the hell you want it to do
i vote for the iphone if the user wants
-simplicity
-non-power user
-no need for specialty programs on windows
Thank you guys for your feedback.
Quite clear that out of the box device winner is the iphone and HD for advanced users.
I am going to try to find a shop in France having the HD in test in order to check the web browsing before to buy anything.
Gracias
i get the feeling that Ferator was hoping to hear lots of reasons why he should buy the HD and definately definately not the iphone.
If you want to have a good proxy for your choice, answer the following question:
"do you prefer an Apple personal computer or a PC (windows or Linux)?"
then use the same answer for the Iphone/Touch HD question. In my opinion, the answer will be correct for 99% of the users.
...Who cannot answer should buy the Iphone.

As good as the HD appears to be now, WM devices just get better and better especially the first year they are released because of the availability of updated software and new ROMs. If the HD is good now, next year it will be jumping through hoops with all of the tweaks and updated software that will be coming. When I bought my Trinity it was a brand new device and had all kinds of problems, now it is near perfect. It is just the hardware that is getting long in the tooth

Definitly
Since the i-thing (iphone, ibook, ipod... you name it) has been around, I always sticked to the windows environment because I do believe that it is much more efficient.
Perhaps not the best user friendly experience but always getting the max out of your investment and not comdamned to a restrictive environment (itunes, iapp market, last technologies for the best prices, plenty stuff/soft whatever what you are looking for...).
But what works for a laptop, home computer can't simply works the same way for a phone.
Let me explain:
I am a sales director. If I can leave witout a laptop during 1 or 2 days, I definitly have to work with an efficient phone, easy to handle and work with, reliable and fast.
In my company out of 9 sales guys, 7 were using HTC devices.
6 of them changed those HTC for iphones and honnestly they're happy.
So conclusion is that if I can check that this device + few tricks answer my basic needs I will go for it otherwise apple will have a new customer.

Just be sure you never want to MMS, video call, change the battery or load up some special software you read about.
Oh and you don't need a large display "in order to" make phone calls (50% of the usage).
well, i am not sure what is the best Professional communicator. However, i am answering from the blackstone, without any wap tricks and using the fckeditor by seeing the full typing window EASILY. which other phone can do it?
Friends, have already heard the complaints about Lags, Music crackling, and bad battery (mainly the screen is responsible).
Besides this I would like to know the following:
- How is the 5MP Camera with dual-LED flash?
Comparable or better than that of HTC Desire or Galaxy S
- The physical QWERTY - Is it fun and really fast to type with it? How's the adjustment to tap the screen to send the message after typing. (normally a scrollball or touch pad would do the job faster).
- 3D gaming - How's it the 3D performance, do all the Android High-End games run smoothly.
-The new email system or software implemented - Does it support Inline message editing of forwarded Emails?
- Can you do a T9 contact search directly from the Desktop? Is there a T9 dialer?
How is the 5MP Camera with dual-LED flash? - just fine
Comparable or better than that of HTC Desire or Galaxy S - not even a valid comparison
- The physical QWERTY - Is it fun and really fast to type with it? How's the adjustment to tap the screen to send the message after typing. (normally a scrollball or touch pad would do the job faster). Awesome keyboard, how is pressing something quicker than touching something?
- 3D gaming - How's it the 3D performance, do all the Android High-End games run smoothly. don't know
-The new email system or software implemented - Does it support Inline message editing of forwarded Emails? - nope
- Can you do a T9 contact search directly from the Desktop? Is there a T9 dialer? no, and yes.
I hated the on screen keyboard of my HTC Desire. What ever HTC did to the keyboard it seems like its even harder to type than with the stock keyboard.
Not making a mistake every sentence is wonderful.
Hi guys,
I'm seriously considering buying this phone. So I thought I could just add up to this post rather than start a new thread asking questions about the features.
I didn happen to notice this thread and sent the same given below as a PM to Jibriel
So let me outline my buying rationale I want a blackberry-ish phone which I can use without a blackberry rate data plans in India. I want this phone to do primarily one thing, sync gtalk and gmail / facebook perfectly. I can take a hit on other functions but not this. I am a noob so one or 2 of my questions will be pretty dumb.
1. Where to buy the phone?
I'm in India. So will it suffice if I buy the phone from amazon wireless with the replacement phone option
wireless.amazon.com/dp/B004AM5AWM (i cannot post links as this is my first post so not providing it as a hyperlink).
Is there any better option available. I know people traveling to and from the US, so shipping within continental US option will do and I dont need a world shipping option.
2. How do I unlock?
So apparently from other posts I see a guy can provide a 8 numerical unlock code to unlock the phone for other GSM carries. So if I buy the phone using option 1, will the same $8 trick work for me.
3. Now for dumb question, I want to know if Gtalk is running in background and if someone sends me an IM then will I be notified of the IM automatically? Or should I refresh the app manually to get latest updates? Same thing for facebook.
I have long commute to work. So this answer will be major influencing factor on my buying decision.
4. How is the call quality? I have some hearing difficulties. But its not bad enough to use a hearing aid. I have heard some issue with call qualities being poor. Is anyone using an unlocked phone with GSM carries experienced any issues? Bad lemons are ones luck, just trying to determine if issue is widespread.
I know my list is long. But I dont want to spend $449 just because I would really like to own it. Any inputs/feedback on the above questions will be greatly appreciated.

// Buy it from Amazon, eBay or anywhere else your gonna get the same phone. Some of the sites are selling it unlocked and some really cheap. I got mine for $611 and happen to see a a few sites selling for less, so do your research carefully.

// Yes the SwiftUnlock guy will give you the code for $8 and he delivers really fast. After that the process of setting up your phone is fairly simple.

// Android has evolved significantly and most messaging apps support Push notification. If you aren't aware Facebook now supports Chat & Push notification. GTalk will do the same, but I have removed it as it runs as a service hence draining battery and consuming RAM - I suggest using Fring instead.
4. How is the call quality? I have some hearing difficulties. But its not bad enough to use a hearing aid. I have heard some issue with call qualities being poor. // Phone, speaker and speaker phone clarity is far supperior than Blackberry and even the Galaxy S. The camera is also just right for your daily photo shots. Flash is nice and bright. The phone overall is just right out of the box (except the bloatware) which can be removed via Titanium backup. Cell reception and surfing on GPRS is very fast. The touchscreen is very responsive and multi-touch can be compared to that of an iPhone.
The scrolling of web paged is smooth as silk and apps operate really fast.
ITS A MUST BUY COMPARED TO BLACKBERRY?
I know my list is long. But I dont want to spend $449 just because I would really like to own it. Any inputs/feedback on the above questions will be greatly appreciated.

Just one more question. Will the unlock procedure used void warranty? and does motorola offer international warranty for Droid Pro?
I'm not talking about rooting. But just unlocking it to work with GSM carriers in India.

No it doesn't void the Warranty. Besides where are you going to find the support for Verizon phones in India. If something goes wrong, Motorola India is not going to provide any support since the phone isn't officially available here and neither do they have the hardware to support it.
....Unless you have means to send it back to the US.
i know a few ppl who will be travelling to n fro for the next couple of months. So worst case some1 can take it back and return it. So thats why I prefer to buy from amazon if its few $$ more expensive than ebay and other stuff.
but yah i got all the info i to convince me to blow $449
i will get the handset only in 2nd week of jan then i will strt a new thread for the set up procedures
Dude. You can win one on ebay for much less than 450. I saw ended auctions from sellers with very good feedback starting from 375 $$.

Hi guys, sorry if it has been asked already
I'm wondering if I should by a Gear 2 or a live .
I think I might be interrested to place and respond to some calls on my watch but I'm not totally sure also.
On the other hand, I found the live interface a little bit too annoying. Don't really a big fan of swiping the cards and go through everyone one of them to find your stuff.
I probably don't have a good understaning of how these watches are working , that might be the problem.
Thanks in advance guys.
Sounds like you already answered your own question.
May like to answer calls at the watch, do not like cards but I am not going to tell you what to buy.
Being stuck with Samsung devices (non Samsung Devices are only partly functional), and Tizen I would never buy a Gear 2.
I like the always on display of the Gear Live, hate the Gear 2 battery life.
I like the idea Android Wear can not be customized (add Samsung bloat), and there are 3 soon to be 4 manufacturers
Honestly at this point if it would not kill me to wait for a few weeks I be tempted to see if the Moto-360 lives up to the hype.

Yep that's a good point ! And I think you helped me a lot with your honesty.
I was not thinking indeed Tizen vs Android.
The Moto 360 is very tempting but I think the price will be too high for me.
Another question if I may, has anyone tried to use the Gear Live with a phone that has a passcode on it ? (a real passcode with 8 characters, not a pin).
I'm asking that because I have one from work which has Maas 360 installed on it and it's something I can't remove.
Thanks again
Hello,
For device comparisons, please go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2229761. I will have to close this one.
First off, I've done about a day of research and I'm amazed by the sheer number of Chinese smartwatches there are on Aliexpress.
Back story: I came from an Apple watch which I bought with the idea "function over form". Soon enough, the square shape started to bother me so I sold it. Also, the fact that you can't choose custom watchfaces on a $700 watch is just plain ridiculous.
I kinda thought I was going to stick to plain watches (I'm somewhat of a collector), but I miss the notifications. So I started looking for a round alternative that works with my iPhone and supports custom watchfaces. I first checked out Android Wear (I like the look of the Huawei Watch), but quickly learned that you can't load custom watchfaces by default on iPhone. I know there's a huge workaround for that, but I don't want to bother with that honestly.
So I started looking into these Chinese smartwatches. The problem is, that you either seem to have a companion watch (without SIM) where you can't change watchfaces, or you have a phone watch (with SIM) with customizable watchfaces. I don't need nor want a watch with a seperate SIM card. My requirements are simple: round shape, no sim, notifications, customizable watchfaces. Siri & calling from the watch would be a big plus. I don't want to spend more than $100 on the watch though.
I already ordered a No. 1 G5 since I liked the look and read somewhere that you can indeed change the faces (limited to 2), but the resources are so damn limited that I'm not so sure anymore. Officially, No. 1 says that custom watchfaces aren't supported. And then there's the question of getting extra data in the faces, like date etc. It doesn't seem the G5 supports this, if it supports custom faces at all. At this point, I'm utterly confused.
So is there somebody who can help a poor soul out?
I'm looking for a smartwatch for about $100. I might be willing to go up to $150. Refurb or used is fine. I definitely would like something thats got a fairly acurate hear rate monitor and step counter. Ecg and blood 02 would be nice but probably asking a bit much in this price range. I don't care about taking calls on my watch but do want the ability to atleast see who is calling and the option to answer or reject would be nice. If my Tinwoo Smartwatch from Amazon for $40 can do it, I dint for see that being an issue. A keyboard function on the watch would be nice. It definitely need to receive notifications for the Workplace Messenger by Facebook app. Any advice? Oh and ill be paring it with a Samsung Note 10+.
Check information over in the smartwatch forum:

Sadly the xda mobile app claims the forum doesn't exist when trying to start a thread there.
I don't use or know about the app. Noticed this thread and watch discussion:
What smart watch to buy?
I never bought a smart watch in the past but am interested in doing so now. What's the best bang-for-the-buck smart watch I can buy? I use a Samsung Galaxy Android phone so I'm guessing an Apple Watch is off the list. I would prefer one that has...
forum.xda-developers.com
I appreciate the response but don't really see much useful information there. I see links to youtube review playlists, which would be great if I wanted to spend 10 hours watching reviews. Other than that, I see what seems like a reasonable statement. There is no smartwatch that will truly tick all the bells and whistles. Also, when it comes to many of the Chinese variants available, you have a 50-50 chance on any one particular model as to whether it it works good or works like cheap knock-off tech. So I was looking for suggestions on a watch that ticks the particular boxes I am looking for. From there, all I can do is order and pray for a good batch.
