Is the USB port ridiculously sharp on this phone? - Redmi K20 / Xiaomi Mi 9T Questions & Answers

I just got the Mi 9T a few days back and I can't help but notice how sharp the outside edges of the USB Type C port are. The way I hold this phone one handed and frankly the only way I can do it is with my pinky finger resting on the port. But it's becoming an increasingly uncomfortable thing to do because of how harsh the port is. I am not using any case.
Is this just my phone or its just the way its designed? And is this going to get any better with time?

same with me, maybe a plastic plug would be welcome?

You mean I should give my phone in warranty?
Sent from my Mi 9T using Tapatalk

yes, my job is metal working and there isno way for it to be sharp - its just dangerous, so use warranty to replace or if you have skills use file to make it better

Can anyone else please comment?

I use this case => https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SRK7JZ3
No problem! ^^

On mine, it's not sharp at all

Okay I am gonna go to the Mi store and see if the demo unit has this or not. I hope they do have a demo unit as I don't know anyone who has this phone.

I got the same thing. Just dont move the cable when connected. Im keeping mine, there is a high % you will recieve one with more defects

OK, i hope that the port doesnt broke or something

My original phone had it, my RMA doesn't, but as the other poster mentioned it's a HUGE gamble with RMA units. If this one starts doing it, ad continues to get worse, I'll take my phone apart and glue all the junk that they didn't properly glue at the factory.
But you mean it is no problem until I dont play with it and move up down like lightswitcher? OR you request a RMA Unit because of this Problem....
Its only this defect, no one more

My original, moved very slightly, and creaked a lot. That wasn't the reason for the RMA, but I'm happy its gone.

Bezil chrome coming off

OK I got an s4 for free a week ago that had a little bit of its small bezil around the screen revealing the white under the cheap crome. It's increased drematicly over the last few days. Any way to repair it or at least make it look nice again without a case?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
Spray paint or a bumper.
There's nothing you can do to prevent it.
The paint is coming off my phone too. And it's coming off in stupid areas, like around the infrared port and the headphone slot. It doesn't even make sense, I don't even touch that area. But the sides, where there most contact happens, are fine, practicly like new.

For me it's mainly around the screen so it's visible when in use and damn ugly xD. I'm buying a $60 new battery for this phone i got for free so overall $60 I'm not sure an s4 in this condition is worth :/ is it? Oh and yeah my headphone port is completely white. It's funny how the thicker side band is bumped on mine and won't peel but the most hard to replace part decides to

Your best option would be a bumper. But avoid metallic bumpers, as they mess with WiFi and mobile signals.

How about removing the rest of the chrome so the rim of my screen is full white? Would that look any good xD. Otherwise I'll unhappily live with it
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
What did u do about yours
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
I didn't do anything. It happens. My phone is black, so removing the chrome might not look as good as on a white phone.
But it doesn't affect me in any way. I care more about it working fine than looking brand new. Of course, if you're going to sell it, it is important to keep it in good shape. But if I get a new phone I will keep this one as a backup most probably. So that's that.

This is my "new" phone. But I can't complain as it was free although imma have to part with cash for a new battery. It just looks tatty to me that's all

I have a brown and rose gold and it pains me too. Just get a full case that covers all those areas.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
I use a Spigen hybrid case and it works well and looks good. Look on Aliexpress for various cases. I find the s4 too slippery without a case.

It does serve a purpose.
Make it easier to hold and reach bottom of the screen, and makes top and bottom the same size so it fits better/symmetrically in the VR headset.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean there isn't a reason for it...

What are you talking about? Can you not see all of the electronics in that part? Packing a bunch of parts in the bottom chin allows us to have a large capacity battery and keep the phone thin.
Great video! Thanks for sharing. Looks like fixing damaged screens wont be too terrible.

No problem, also Incase for those of you who see ifixits disassembly on this phone, don't get worried about the screen separating from the digitizer during disassembly, they probably used too much heat and stuck their pry tool too deep and separated the digitizer from the screen or they just wanted to pull the digitizer off to completely disassemble it.

Kinda the same as why there isn't front facing speakers. Who would want the sound muffled to your ears and have the sound blaring into your eyeballs. This only my assumption.

Screen Repairs

My wife just broke my screen, can anyone advise how and even.igf it's possible to get it repaired? Quick google, and I can only see places that repair Samsung and Apple...
I'm in the UK, but if I have to order the screen and take somewhere then that's fine...

You can always buy a new screen from aliexpress. They're actually not too hard to replace by yourself.
Replace it by yourself or find a place that allows you to bring your own parts.

Is there somewhere that instructs how to do it? What tools would I need?
Edit. Also, do I need to replace the whole touchscreen unit? Or can I just replace the glass? Only thing I can see is the whole unit replacement

Order the screen via e-commerce website and ask any vendor to replace it they will do it in No time (cost may be a little high but that's the way it is)

When you say any vendor, there are loads of little shops that say they do phone repair but look a little dodgy and do loads of other things too - are these safe?!
Also, there seems to be a bit of a spectrum of replacement screens (high quality / original etc)
I'm guessing none of them are actually original, so is there anything I need to look out for to get a good one?

Screen Replacement isn't that big of a Deal..
So relax Find a Good mobile shop and there u go..
As Far as screens are concerned no screen is Orignal unless u are getting it from the Service Center...
So u have to settle for less. Just get the screen for the specific phone exactly and u are good to go
Thanks all. Can anyone tell me roughly what the cost is likely to be if i take in a screen to a place and say - do it for me?
I have found somewhere that will post the phone and do the repair for £50
Looking on AliExpress then the screen is £20 (+ long wait or postage cost)
So if it's around £20 then seems like i may as well just use the service here (https://www.quickmobilefix.com/products/xiaomi-mi-a1-front-screen-lcd-repair)
I'm going to call them to check they have a screen in mind - don't want to send it off and then find they themselves have to order from china...

Hi, I will give you my input input on this matter now. The tools required are most of the time included with the replacement screen, also you will have to buy the entire thing (LCD with touch). LCD from Aliexpress for cheap xiaomi is most of the time original LCD but with copied glass and touch. I've bought two different for redmi note 4 and both were pretty much like the original. Working perfectly so far after about 3 months.

So went into local store and they said they'd need to order it or it's £20 if i order myself...
So, going to order myself, but one more question - I see there are versions 'with frame' or 'without frame' - which do i need?
Edit - I also see LCD and Digitizer only options too (much cheaper)

A frame one is probably quite easy to replace. Non-frame needs special adhesive tape or glue which is often quite hard to get and can lead to light leakage. Also, if you're replacing yourself, make sure the case of the phone has'nt been bent. Otherwise over time it can make the new display get pushed out or crack easily again. Also, I do recommend a screen protector for non-original display because they get smudged easily.

It is possible with loca glue, a mold, cleaning solution, a dustfree environment and uv-lamp... Or in other words, not worth it. I recommend pre-installed on frame.

Damn. Would have been so much cheaper!
Is it the kind of thing that wouldnt even be worth risking if the shop said they can do it? I didn't notice much of a dustfree environment there...

I would go with a frame version, or at least non frame, replacing glass is really tricky and also, so they have a mold for your phone etc...

Black variant with defect on the painting

Hello Mi A1 users.
Today I'm complaining about something that's happening to Mi A1. The back of the device (black variant) have some "holes" where it seems there's no painting. I only have this phone for one month and I always used it with cover.

if u use a hard cover, it may actually be the culprit. What happens is the inner surface of the cover rubs the phone body, removing the paint/coating on it. Unfortunately, not using a cover means damage to the internals on every fall. i use soft covers, they are good for absorbing shocks while being less harsh on the phone body. The look is compromised but then its the deal.....

Asked to a friend he said he already have one with some too. Don't wipe yours with wet wipes it will make worse!

It happens when sands get stuck under your cover and it wears out the color finish of the aluminum. This is very common if you use a case and don't clean regularly. Those who don't use a case never face this situation but they risk the physical health of the device.
