Hi guys
It's a couple of days that my fingerprint sensor won't work at all.
When I tap on fingerprints in settings it shows the message of the first attached pic.
Obviously I've tried to restart the device, shut it down and booting lots of times. It used to work for a while, but then the message will reappear.
Dialing *#0*# and going to the sensor sections shows just "null" as it doesn't even exist.
I've also tried a factory reset. Didn't worked.
Tried to wipe data files and cache from app manager. Nothing
Any ideas?
I still have the warranty valid, but there's a mark on the bottom of the device caused by falling. Will they accept warranty anyway?
Thanks to all
They probably will repair under warranty, you've got EU consumer laws on your side, if you've had it less than 6 months it'd be more in your favour generally.
Any work around yet for restoring a backup from a previous device and putting into a new device. I am in this boat due to my phone falling out of my pocket on a roller coaster and having a piece of wood go through it. Magically still turned on though. Anyways I am plagued with a successful restored backup on the new device and the finger print sensor will not work because the data is from the other original device.
Yes I made sure to delete the lockscreen.db before I booted it up. Everything works perfectly besides the fingerprint sensor and you cant set it back up. If you try it says "Enrollment was not completed. Fingerprint enrollment didn't work. Try again or use a different finger." Also says "fingerprint sensor not available" at the lock screen. If you wipe data then it will allow you to reset it and it works great. My question is does anyone know what needs to be removed or deleted to allow you to use this nexus print feature again? Thanks in advanced.
Suffering the same problem; did you get anywhere?
Probably not. Just have to factory reset. It's not that bad...
So, I took delivery of my G4 plus less than ten days ago.
Everything worked fine, except that the fingerprint sensor occasionally acted up. It would often fail to recognise my fingerprint, about one out of every ten scans; but i assumed that my dry skin had something to do with it.
Today morning, upon waking up, I noticed the phone had become unusually hot and switched it off for the first time in nine days. When I turned it on again, the fingerprint sensor was totally dysfunctional.
I tried unlocking with the sensor. No luck. Forget sensing my finger, it wouldn't even vibrate to indicate that an input was detected.
Tried searching for fingerprint sensor in settings. No luck.
Dialed *#*#2486#*#* for CQATest. Attempting to open the fingerprint sensor section resulted in an FC.
Performed a factory reset. Back to square one, still no fingerprint sensor. Initial setup wizard simply behaved like the phone has no fingerprint sensor.
All subsequent attempts to get it to work have failed.
I've been using pattern unlock, and while everything else works fine, the sensor seems to be unrecognized by the phone.
My guess is that it's a hardware issue, but I'm baffled by what caused it. I've been extra careful, never dropped it even on a bed. No water contact. It's stock, no sideloaded apps installed and bootloader untouched.
Google searches proved useless, as did a thorough search of XDA, Moto's forums and a subsequent call to Moto customer care.
Would anyone happen to have a solution? I've requested a replacement from Amazon, but it would be nice to have a quick solution handy if this issue crops up again in future.
Thanks!
check whether in the security settings you get a fingerprint settings. if not search in the settings searchbar for fingerprint. if nothing worked try installing a applock "applock" and try to enable fingerprint within them and try to unlock. an important thing is this one, try using a full screen app of your choice and tap fingerprint sensor. if it opens the softkeys your mobile is messed up with software, if it didn't open the softkeys then the mobile is messed with hardware. cheers

If the phone is still within the replacement window, get it replaced. Otherwise, you can:
1. Get it repaired at a Moto service centre if within warranty period (that way you won't lose warranty)
2. Get it repaired at a local service centre (only if warranty has expired and Moto is charging higher for the repair)
Sent from my Moto G4 Plus using XDA Labs
So my touchscreen is acting really weird and I can't pinpoint exactly what the problem with it is. Im planning on just sending in the phone for repairs, but wanted to post here as a sort of "last-ditch effort" to see if there is anything else I can do.
I've already done a factory reset of my phone (and it seemed to work a little bit better) only to start acting up again like 10 minutes later. Safe mode doesn't resolve the issue. I can't swipe to unlock my phone and pressing once either doesn't work or registers as a long press. Everything is telling me this is a hardware issue, but it started happening randomly with no screen damage and there seems to be a pattern to when the touches register and when they don't, so it might be a software problem albeit a very weird one.
This is what the touchscreen input should look like: https://i.imgur.com/qhTNgq9.gif
This is what the touchscreen input actually looks like: https://i.imgur.com/DFtMVSz.gif
Any help is appreciated. Ask me anything, ill try to get back as soon as possible.
Also, if this is the wrong place to post this, please direct me to the correct place.
I think really the only thing you might be able to do is reinstall the firmware, if that still doesn't fix the issue then it probably is some sort of hardware issue
Things you can consider
- After a Factory reset, try using your phone without installing any "other" Apps except the ones from Google. / or / using it in Safe Mode ?
- I am sure you might have already tried removing the tempered glass
- Did you try the *#0*# and test Touch ?
Looks like common problem, suspect it surfaced after recent upgrade to Oreo. There is a popup that says "Can't read fingerprint blah blah, if problem persists, reboot". Trying to access the fingerprint option, it is also gone from the Settings menu. Also have multiple agents with given administrative rights since I use this phone to access office emails and stuff, it does give them the right to delete fingerprints i suppose, but somehow it just happened out of the blue one day. Repeated rebooting, holding down both volume up and down type of rebooting, clearing cache, doesn't help. Based on simple search it is common enough this problem, but no good solution.' Stock, non root.
Will be grateful if anyone has any ideas. Thanks.

Try this. Turn off phone. Hold down power and volume Up and Down together for 10 seconds. It will start in hardware control mode presss power button and phone will restart. This should clear the fault.
Thanks for the suggestion, Sir! Much appreciated.
Actually that was one of the things I tried as well, didn't work though.

Try squeezing the phone a bit in the area between the power button and cameras. I've heard multiple reports of this working. Seems to be a not-so-great physical connection to the sensor. The newer software may be more picky about it.
I have the sprint variant. My fingerprint reader went out some months ago. I've heard some people were able to get it back, but I wasn't one of them. I'm glad I had the second year warranty now. I had to send it in to LG. They are sending me a whole new phone.

The exact same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I tried everything possible, but nothing worked. I only had a year of warranty, and it had just expired 3 days ago. I had to send it to the LG service center. They replaced the entire back panel and put it back using the water resistant glue (I did end up paying for the repair). But my phone is as good as new. I suggest you do the same thing if you want it fixed.
This worked perfectly for my lg g6. You're a life saver. Thanks so much

Worked for me also. Thanks!
I replaced the glass back and fingerprint sensor myself....and trust me, when it comes to ANYTHING D.I.Y. I am useless....but even I found it simple.
Matt
In most cases is just a sealing tape stratify itself and because of this fingerprint sensor lose connection. Before you replace whole back and sensor you can try to replace sealing tape, in 90% cases I had with G6 it helped.
I solved it with another trick
I removed back cover and noticed the erased thermal paste under motherboard on SoC and glass panel
I cleaned it and applied new one put back cover now it is working without problem
Squeez is not permanent solution
