anyone experiencing this with your phones?
most of the time when i put my phone in my pocket, it just shuts down and i have to boot it back up.
happens like 10/15 times a day.
I have experienced some reboots (not so many like your shut downs), when some applications try to interact with the marketplace.
Your shutdowns, might have to do with a battery issue... Did you try any useful diagnostic test inside the MFG tools?
I've got them also....
Mostly when I've got the phone in my pocket, off course I don't see it shutdown. When i switch it on it doesn't simply resume, it boots. I guess it has something to do with too much force on a particular spot.
I've had it shutdown a few times when viewing pictures. Possibly a totally different issue, but nevertheless.
I have no solution (apart from keeping it less in my pocket).
Greetz,
Ronald
Happens sometimes for me. Maybe once a day or less.
me too. I think once a week or max 2 times a week.

i dont believe its a battery issue, because if its on a table then its fine and is turned on without any problems.
i guess the optimus 7 is not pocket friendly...
oddly i never had this issue back in nodo.
yep my op7 used to randomly shutdown more than 3 times per day after i flashed OPN rom this problem seem less.

I second this.....
I think it maybe has something to do with the option to switch on the phone when the camera-button is pressend. This button gets pressed very easy when you put your phone in your pocket....
Can this option be turned off?? The camera is able to switch on, even when the lockscreen is active.....
Grr,
Ronald
---------- Post added at 01:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:03 PM ----------
This option can be switched off.
I switched it off and will try if it helps.....
been shutting off like crazy today.
one point it didnt even boot until i removed the battery.
i really think the OP7 is not that great of a phone anymore.
Small update;
I haven't had a shutdown since I switched off the option to turn on the phone upon press off the camera button. I've done my best (put it in my pocket a lot etc). But couldn't manage it...
I would like to switch off the windows button also, but this isn't possible with simple settings...
Grr,
Ronald
Happens sometimes when I use 4th & Mayor.
i had this problem to, it would just shut down sometimes when it was in my pocket and sometimes just when i was using it. Usally after it had shut down on me my battery % went also bizar. This seems to be fixed with doing a normal reboot.
i m on the stock rom and did not rooted my phone.
For me the solution was to format my sd card.
Did this sunday and havent had a shut down now for two days.
if it comes back ill report it.
I am running for 6 and a half days without a reboot..... Still going strong....

tried it, but still restarts on me... :\
edit:
so i found how it restarts (at least i think).
if i hold the power button for a long time it will restart...
no need to even slide down to power off...
what's the point in slide down to power off if u can still turn it off by holding the power button...
Got an optimus 7 yesterday, had 3 restarts last night, I think its a Mango problem.
Small renewed update;
Shortly after my previous update the phone crashed (I was WIFI tethering, playing radio and then connected the USB cable so Zune started - this seems to much ).
Since this reboot I had some shutdowns again (2 I believe). All of these reboots after carrying the phone in my pocket and then sitting down (putting more mechanical force on the force).
I still think that the functions to switch on the phone upon pressing the 'windows' button and the camera button have something to do with the problem. I have switched off the camera button (in the camera settings), but when the windows button gets pressed and then (in the lockscreen) the camera button is pressed the phone still switches on in camera function.
Does anybody have a clue if it's possible to turn off these buttons for switching on the phone? These functions were introduced with the Mango update, as is the problem we're talking about.

Agreed.... Seems like stupidity....
I've read in some app comments that there are some applications that interfere with the phone going to sleep or with the wake up.
I've no reboot problem in this moment, I've seen two or three reboot since i bought it...
But can it be some app installed?

Same problem here. Had multiple restarts at random. Flashed my phone a few times, but it didn't help since I was installing 4th and Mayor every time. Then I flashed it again and didn't install 4th and Mayor. Seems stable now. <Fingers crossed>
Hey guys, that's an issue with your phones. I had that, sent it back to LG to get it fixed.

Does it completely fix the problem? How long ago did you send it to LG and did not experience the problem even once?
Does anybody know if this happens with other phone models? (Maybe it's a OS bug).

Hey, I recently did a factory flash of 4.3 and the nexus seems to be turning off randomly, especially in the night. I missed work today because the alarm didn't ring and got there 2 hours late. Is anyone else experiencing this issue, this seems to happen often and is there a fix for it?

It has happened twice to me since I updated to 4.3 a few days ago, always during the night, so phone is off in morning, and have to hold power button as in a reset to power on. (a LONG press! ) What is going on?
---------- Post added at 10:27 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:08 AM ----------
I had Netflix installed and read elsewhere that this may be the causet, so have uninstalled Netflix to check this. My phone is absolutely stock, never been rooted.
Im kind of getting this mine just keeps rebooting every so often. But does it when im trying to do something seems like 4.3 was a giant fail for the nexus 4 everyone seems to be having all kinds of problems.
No phone shutdowns at night since I removed Netflix, next thing is to reinstall netflix and hope 4.3 gives me no more problems.
Same problem for me. I have 2 Nexus4. One of them gets frozen during the night (or after a long period of inactivity) and the next morning I have to reset it holding the power button for a while.
I don't have the Netflix app. The Nexus with this problem is not rooted, not unlocked, everything is stock. The problem came after updating to 4.3.
I updated to 4.3 yesterday via ota and I experienced this while using the phone in the evening. I don't have Netflix on the phone. Running 4.3 rooted and the hybrid .84/.33 radio. Kernel is stock.
Im experiencing sim card logon. 2 times in less than 24 hours...

I received my 32G model on Nov 28. Firmware MDA89D. Pure stock unmodified in any way. Not even using screen protection or cases. Setup as a new device, not copy from another existing device. I've been getting randon freezes and crashes. When it froze, it did not respond to any touch input or any key input. The only way to get back is to hold down the power button to do a force reboot. It seemed to have settled over the last few days. What I do have on an ongoing basis is crashes. When I use Google map navigation, the phone will work for a few minutes and the screen went black followed by a reboot. It did it on 2 consecutive days already.
Is it just me having this problem therefore a defective unit or is it the OS / Software problem.

That is strange...I haven't had that kind of behavior on my Nexus 6-works without a problem-never freezes or reboots...now I know the Amazon app would do something to my Nexus 6 I don't know what but when I install it-my phone with reboot randomly or shut down...ever since I uninstalled it-no issues-for months.
Try running safe mode and see if it does it again-that way you will know if it is an app that's causing the issues. This is how it's done: http://www.greenbot.com/article/2923927/how-to-restart-your-android-phone-into-safe-mode.html
You can always try a factory reset as well....have you tried updating to the most recent factory image from Google?

I've been experiencing the black screen freeze frequently since getting the phone only a couple days ago. No other lockups however. Also running pure stock.
I too have the same issue. Screen goes blank and lock ups. Also running pure edition...
Same. Interestingly, in my case, it seemed to happen most frequently when using Hangouts.
I have another post that describes random reboot and I believe they are related. Long story short. I believe either the factory reset + software update fixed it, or it's a hardware problem problem. While I wait for the replacement, I only had one random reboot. Of course the new phone is rock solid. It's only been a couple of days. I would have a few by now if I'm still on original phone _ original firmware.

I'm having the same issue. So no random freeze leading to reboot with ur rma device?
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
What I'm trying to say is don't panic and RMA your device. Do a factory reset and make sure you're on the latest firmware. Mine was OK after the first self-reboot during setup after factory reset but has been good while waiting for the RMA to arrive. To answer your question, the new device has been perfect but it's only been 48 hours.
I am facing a similar issue with my Nexus 6P, can anyone please help me with it?
On any rom, whatsoever, I get reboot when I turn the Google Maps Navigation On.
After few minutes, phone just reboots
I havent yet tried stock, any idea how can I find the root cause? I have cleared data for maps, also I have tried to uninstall maps with TiBackup and installed fresh from Play Store

Yup same stuff going on over here with mine. It locks up and reboots even after clearing cache and rebooting only a few hours earlier. Have done 2 factory resets and am on the latest OTA update. I also noticed that I have to clear the cached data every day, sometimes multiple times a day to keep device running smoothly. This really concerns me with a device that's less than 2 weeks old. I also have only a handful of basic apps( Fb, YouTube, Spotify). Really thinking about returning it. When the phone runs right its great, but all the issues make me nervous. Might be time for a Note 5? I am just getting used to this phone and would hate to leave it though. Interested to see if the first major marshmallow update fixes these problems.

Mine actually had one random freeze and reboot after factory reset then nothing for 48 hours after that. Of course I rma'd mine and I'm glad I did. Screen is on the colder side with even volume speakers on the second unit. Sending my original one back.

I'm just about ready to RMA. I've tried factory resets, cache wipes and just recently updated to the latest stock MDB08M. It was fine for a day or two but now the lockups are increasing.
As others have said, by any other metric this is one of the best phones I've had. This freeze/reboot thing is getting annoying and even if it isn't happening to every user it's happening to enough to be of some concern.
I'm facing app closures, my gmail app keeps crashing, it happened on my graphite nexus 6p, and now same thing on my frosty 6p. Its not just gmail, it's also chrome now. Maybe i should have not restored from my previous device.
what's this?
I came to this thread expecting a lot more of a technical discussion (the site is called xda DEVELOPERS after all).. but instead all i see is "oh my phone is crashing.. i'm gonna RMA this sucks) posts.. moving on to android enthusiasts on stack exchange thank you very much

I have had the phone for what will be 2 weeks tomorrow, I preordered it in and picked it up at a Sprint Store. I have had a new issue showing up the last couple of days. I will take out my phone and find that it is frozen. I will not respond to pressing the power or volume buttons. The most recent time this happened, I noticed that the light on the left hand top of the phone was lit purple, so it clearly was not off. I am not sure if that was true when this happened before. Anyway, the only thing to do at this point is to hold the power key down for about 10 seconds, which restarts the phone. It happened twice today, the first time when I got up in the morning and tried to wake up my phone, and then on the way home from work, I had my phone in my pocket while I was riding the subway and reading a paper, and when I took the phone out it had the same problem. This also happened I think one other time either yesterday or the day before.
Also, a few days earlier, the phone also froze when I was trying to do a camera burst by holding down the camera button. That time, it froze on the last image I had on the camera. That was when I found I could restart the phone by holding the button 10 seconds.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what is happening and what I should do....before I bring it back to the Sprint Store, I mean.
I'm having the same issues too! Locks up at least once a day.

I did had a couple freezes early on, but haven't had any as of late. Question did you set the phone up with a back up, or did you do a clean install. In some other forums it was suggested to set the phone up from scratch with no back up or transferring data from another device.

My phone a few days ago was freezing constantly and stuttering. I went into safe mode and the phone was working fine. Nova kept saying it wasn't responding. So I deleted Nova, a few icon packs. The phone has been running smoothly. No issues at all. I have installed Lawnchair Launcher. Everything still running smoothly.
Another thing I have noticed is that things kind of just work themselves out with this device. I experienced a few freezes early on and some laggy moments. This last week the phone feels good, no freezes or anything.
There's a new update on the play store called "essential services" an entirely different thing from "essential resources". Since I am fortunate enough not have the freezing issue, can one of you guys see if this fixes it?

Did you try safemode? It shouldn't crash there. So it's an app. Not sure why Nova won't play well on my phone. Lawnchair is butter smooth for me. Tried the new Pixel 2 Launcher and that works great to.
My phone has frozen even in safe mode and I have only used the stock launcher. It seems to happen when cellular signal is very low. Doesn't seem to matter what app I have open, although I suspect the camera app is involved as it usually is when photos are being sent to cloud.

Haven't had any issues since the update.
Mine just froze this morning when I was waking it up, first time since the update.
Saturday night, I plug my 1 week old phone on the charger at 9%. I power off the phone and see the battery charging animation. I turned it back on as usual but this time my phone did something I've never seen before.
It started bootlooping!
I was like what the hell.
It loaded up to the lock screen and then rebooted. This happened over and over again for about an hour.
After googling, I found a thread about a Redni Note 5 pro having the same issue.
The solution was to hold power and Volume down until the phone rebooted to recovery.
After doing that, I was presented with the option to reboot to system, wipe phone (which I definitely didn't want) and connect to My Assistant.
I chose the first option and sure enough....my phone was stuck in a boot loop once again.
This is my first Xiaomi phone. It's not rooted at all and has locked bootloader on the stock 10.3.5 ROM. Fresh out the box...just a few apps, some photos and texts.
I've seen stuff like this before happen with rooted phones but never on a brand new non rooted phone.
Fortunately (and with lots of prayer), I was able to let the phone battery drain out completely since it wouldn't power off.
Sunday morning, I plugged it back on the charger and to my surprise, I saw the battery animation only this time!
After charging fully, I turned it on and saw it bootlooping again. After 5 mins, I decided to remove both my SIM tray with both SIM and micro SD.
THIS time, the phone stopped bootlooping entirely! Again....what the hell was my question ?.
Normally, my nerves are steel but yesterday, they were more like spaghetti lol
Against my own judgement, I wanted to test if it was my own SIM card causing the issue or if my micro SD card caused the issue.
I placed the SIM try back in with each card 1 by 1 however, the phone immediately started bootlooping on it's own right from system!
I've never seen this before with any other phone or brand I've used in the past.
This activity occurred again and again regardless which card was inserted. With no cards, the phone worked normally.
I decided, you know what, at this point, I'm going to back up my data during and factory reset since now I have access.
Thank God that worked!
After many hours of backing up data, factory resetting my phone and then restoring everything on Mother's Day ( which meant working around free time and planned activities with my Wife), I am happy to say my phone is back working normally with the same SIM card and Micro SD as if nothing happened.
Fluke or not, definitely going to be watching this phone carefully to see if the problem is gone for good.
I will say this, when I first took the phone out the box last week, I turned it on and watched it update to MiUI 10.3.5. Normally I factory reset my phones after updates to be safe but since the phone was still new, I did not factory reset this time. That could be the reason it did this...I'm still not sure.
Sometimes I power my phones off, connect the charger and turn them on. For years I've never had an issue or doing it this way. For a few days I didn't have an issue with my Redmi Note 7 either. After this experience, I will stop doing that entirely.
My question is, have any of you encountered random random boot loops with any of your Xiaomi products? How did it occur and how did you fix it?
Got the same problem, fixed it the same way

Hello,
today I got the same issue as you stated above.
I tried to remove the SIM card (while the phone is on) and the phone brought me to the startscreen instantly. Inserting the SIM card caused the bootloop again ..
I googled this issue and found this thread,
went into the Recovery mode (Power + Volume Up) and did the Data Wipe.
Consequently, I could start the phone with my SIM card without problems ..
Later I found out, that removing the "Telephone"-permission from the "Contacts and dialer" app caused the bootloop.
(On my Stock 10.3.4 MiUI non root)
Greeting,
Dorian Rec

Adding all permissions in contacts& dialer is the solution - you saved my day!
man ... it saved my life thanks a lot. it 100% worked.
That is awesome!
Glad I could help out.
Talk about scary situation....caused by a simple glitch in Miui 10.3.5.
Wonder if the fixed it with the updates...
To scared to update right now since everything has been running smoothly since on my 10.3.5 phone.
Can anyone else share of this problem still occurs on newer versions?

I am having the same issue of boot looping on my Redmi note 7 PRO. I also want to enter boot menu so atleast I can do anything, but doing force shut down (Volume down+power) I came across "FASTBOOT" mode. To get out of that I pressed and hold the power button for a while and it went again in a boop loop. Can you guys please help, I am still not able to turn it on.

most probably removing the "Telephone"-permission from the "Contacts and dialer" app is causing the bootloop - remove SIM and data card, start phone, fix the settings issue the get back the SIM
bootloop on my global version of redmi note 7

How you solved this issue?
It's MIUI 11.0.1 still the same problem
Ok I updated my phone to MIUI 11.0.1 it still has the same problem but thanks to everyone in this thread I
finally fixed this problem that kinda scared the crap out of me.
Thanks Everyone
I did not know this was a thing until last night. I'm on MIUI 11.0.9
My phone restarted out of nowhere and then my flash light came on by itself, gps was turning on by itself and the reboot/switch off screen kept coming and going, little while later it went into the loop. wouldn't even get to the android screen, i couldn't go into recovery mode either it was so bad. I let it die last night and after seeing this thread i plugged it in, and took out the sim (no memory card). So it seemed to work, though the torch and reboot/switch off screen did show up but nothing like yesterday where it kept interrupting me while i was trying to backup my data. Luckily i do a manual back up regularly.
I changed the "Telephone" permission and it went into the bootloop immediately. It turned on, and i started to backup the last of my data and it went into bootloop again. It's been 10 minutes now.
I noticed it seemed to go into bootloop every time i turned off gps, cell data, or was clearing files from my phone. Honestly i thought i was being hacked. Any suggestions on what I can do?

It looks like a hardware problem, if your phone gets into bootloop even there is no sim card - try to change to the other position for the sim card
same issue
gosh scared the xxxx out of me too! I was uninstalling updates uninstall to my redmi note 7 cause too little space and it went into reboot loop. removed sim and giving permission works. I wonder how to do it if removing sim didn't help me boot! how would j have been able to add back permission. what's worrying was I didn't remove any permissions , I only did uninstall updates to all xiaomi apps

Again....what the hell was my question .

Seems like this problem exists on MIUI 12.5 too. I haven't tested the fix yet.
