I would think as long as you're on the same Android version (10) a dirty flash would be acceptable. If you're coming from 9.x.xx build I would absolutely clean flash

Clean flash is recommended but not necessarily, I updated mine from 9 to stable A10 without issues using the local upgrade.

Could be a bit risky, but should work.
Best tho is to backup everything and clean flash it.

Many people are reporting that it works without data loss despite the warning. Have a backup just in case.

Driving myself crazy phone inconsistency

I always used Xylon and always got good days use. Then ill eventually flash a new build cause its got new features and i can never get the battery life back the same how it was. I always perform multiple factory resets and wipes before clean flashing new builds. I use the same Franco kernels, etc. When i had my phone perfect it would drain like a percent an hour. Now its like 2-3.5% an hour and i dont know why. BetterBatteryStats checks out fine. Nothing is keepin the phone awake, the idle drain is just high for some reason. Is there a better process to start fresh? Should i flash everything? Flash stock rom, and bootloader and radio? Then flash xylon? would that make any difference?
Worked for me! I wouldn't definitely try it, I know it sucks, what's to lose

Ill definately give it a try. Will be like the 5th time flashing different roms trying to figure out why this is acting weird this month. Do you happen to have the thread to the latest radio \ bootloader flash?
I found the latest stock rom i believe http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2251958&highlight=stock

If you want better battery life you should probably flash the stock image through fastboot; https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images

Big difference compared to just factory resetting and flashing the stock rom?

Well simply flashing the stock ROM is unlikely to do anything, its just like flashing Xylon or whatever, anyone who had an improvement had it from flashing the img through fastboot. You only have to do once though, if there is going to be any effect

Thanks, that is what I was thinking, but wasn't 100%. Wanted to be sure before I attempted... Stilling doing a backup. lol

Pure Nexus ROM

I installed Pure Nexus on my Nexus 6P the other day. I was using the phone as stock for the past couple of months. I'm an old user of CM mind you.
Since the last 2 days, Ive had nothing but problems with the ROM. I've got several apps that keep crashing,, namely Minimalistic Text, Camera and others. This never happened at all on stock. Even when I use Airdroid to scan the QR code, it uses the wrong camera.
Unfortunately, I've decided to flush Pure Nexus and just in the middle of flashing CM 13 and will try it in a few minutes.
I think I've given enough time for Pure Nexus, but I can't blame the apps that I'm using, as I've used them before on various ROMs on my old Nexus 4 without incident as well as on my Nexus 7.
I've tried to post in another forum thread but since I'm unable to as I haven't posted many times, the forum has driven me here instead.

Hey Barry,
After you flashed Pure Nexus ROM, did you delete the cache? I would try it again, since things can go wrong and others are on Pure Nexus without issue.
deleted cache, dalvik, wiped entire phone, yes

Try flashing vendor image. Pure Nex is a solid rom one of the most stable roms there is.

I've done that too in my initial flashing

Maybe grab some logs of these apps crashing and post them on pure nexus thread.

the apps you are having issues with, did you restore those from a backup (i.e. Titanium Backup)? If so i'd clear the app data/cache and force close them. Typically that helps.
I've lost everything since I've put in a different ROM, but have contacted the developers of the apps of my problem. After mant apps crashing, I decided that it was futile to contact the developers as I realized it was due to the ROM and not the apps I was using, as I've used them before without problems

If I were you, I would try again. Download the ROM and verify that is the correct checksum. Like I said, others here have Pure Nexus without issue.
did a hashcheck [md5] of all files as I usually do. Now I'm even having problems flashing new ROMs since in the last hour or so. I've made a backup of Pure Nexus ROM, so I know I'm able to use it, but might have to do other things here in the next couple of days to get rid of it

I guarantee you it was not due to the rom. If it was others would be reporting the same thing you are. Logs are the only way to diagnose a problem. Its a waste of time discussing anything workout logs..

I just reverted to Pure Nexus again from my backup as I can't seem to flash any other ROM. I did some logs on one app but I can only do it while the app is running and not when it's crashed. I'm unable to attach the file here but only put the text which is too long for an xda submission. I've gone through help to attach but it seems I have to make a new post and not reply to this thread. Weird!

BTW I've installed CM 13 and minimalistic text works flawlessly on it, no hiccups no crashes, weird!!
When stuff like that happens to me and I feel I've tried everything I can think of, I usually make it easier on myself to run the script in Google's factory image and start new. Flash TWRP with ADB tools, format, reboot TWRP, transfer flashables, and start with that ROM from scratch with GApps. Most variables of messing up would have been avoided and chances of success should be high. Anyone else agree with that?

LOL! I've done that a few times reverting to stock and going from there. I'v had to do that in the past to get out of trouble. But seeing how I've done this countless of times over the past few years and the last phone was also a Nexus [albeit quite a change from Lollypop to Marshmallow], the rules are the same for flashing. One thing I was concerned with initially was that the vendor.img file for Pure Nexus was MMB29P but I'm on MMB29T. I don't know if that's an issue. I'm using 6.0.1 Android.
I may try it again in a few days mind you and re-flash. Will def post something if it's a positive change!!

Using MM ROMs on Nougat firmware?

I've flashed Nougat bootloader, radio, vendor, etc and currently I'm on Benzo. I was wondering is it possible to flash a MM ROM on nougat firmware. Will flashing a MM vendor IMG on nougat work?

Yes to question #1. Radio and bootloader can be used interchangeably.
No for question #2, your phone will not boot if you run MM vendor on N rom. The opposite also applies, N vendor will not work on MM rom.

I'm content with MM right now (addicted to xposed) but if you want to run both you could head over to the MultiROM thread. A couple of users said they're using N as the primary rom and MM on secondary. Then I believe you can swap secondary to primary. Just a thought.
***of course this involves some research. I've been using MultiROM since last spring with no issues at all but haven't tried N yet.

In short, if you want N & you want to run Pure Nexus you should sit tight. PN will be updated to N soon (hopefully this weekend).
This will be the simplest way. You can always go back, its just not always convenient (using pc or mac with fastboot)

Not sure...where do you wanna be? AFAIK theres nothing wrong with N. Only reason Im not there is cuz xposed hasnt got there yet. If youre content, stay there. Like I said, keep checking the PN thread to see if the new build arrives.
If your asking me how to go back to MM, Id use fastboot and flash the factory images (go to complete stock) start over, flash twrp, root then flash your preferred M rom.
Its a bit of a hassle but in the long run youll have less hassles (bugs and whatnot)

I'll prob just try to find a decent N ROM. Right now As long as it has hotspot working I don't really care what ROM I'm on. Hopefully the N Roms have it

no problem. And like I said. Keep checking the PN thread. If youre staying on N it's probably gonna be the gold standard for 6p roms
Update--but if you want a suggestion I think WETA is good. It's got all the sound mods built in so you don't have to flash Viper, Dolby atmos etc.

How to downgrade

Hello,
Firstly, I want to thank the community for all of the wonderful information and work they have done. I truly appreciate it.
But, I was wondering if there are any issues going from an android 7.1 rom to a 6.0 rom. Because, I am currently running the MIUI 8 rom that is 6.0 and I love it, I have always been a fan of MIUI. But, I would like to try out nougat and see how some of those roms run.
I have looked quite a bit for any information on this that is specific to the oneplus 2, but I can't seem to find anything. I am totally willing to jump through a bunch of hoops in order to accomplish this goal, I just need to know what these hoops are.
So, if anyone could help me out with this I would really appreciate this.
Thank you for your time and keep up with the good work everyone
MIUI is based on H2OS. I recommend having OOS 3.5.6 firmware for nougat roms. Now I'm not quite sure what the process is for going back to OOS but someone should be able to guide you through it. Then its just as simple as wiping and flashing a nougat rom.

Well, when I install a new rom, I usually wipe everything but the internal data. So, from that perspective, does it matter what rom I had installed before I performed the wipe?

No but the firmware matters, aka which modem firmware 3.5.6 or 3.1.0
I'm not sure but I think the h2os modem firmware is different to the 3.5.6 but I could be wrong
Well, I decided to perform an experiment for everyone and instead of reverting to any other rom, I just wiped like I usually do and installed the Cosmic rom. Everything seems to be working

Good for you then. But I higly recommend OOS 3.5.8 firmware as it appears to have fixed network drops for a lot of people. Again I'm not really sure how the roms will handle these fixes but it shouldn't pose any issues.
