Dead battery? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Nexus 6P that I've hardly used the past couple of years. Today I turned it on and the power was low and shut down. Plugged it in and it showed it was charging. Turned it on about 15 minutes later while still plugged in, and it shut down while booting up on the Google screen. Now it doesn't do anything when I plug it in or hold power button, and doesn't even show the little red light like the battery is drained.
Is this probably a dead battery or could it be something else? Never had this problem before.

Won't turn on D:

So today I left my tablet to charge, it was at like 25% left, while I went to out to my practice. When I returned about 2 hours later, it wouldn't turn on. Before I had left, it was charging so it's not that it ran out of power because the outlet didn't work. I switched the outlets, plugged it into a computer, pressed the power button a bunch of times; nothing. Perhaps I got a defected unit or downloaded a bad app? I don't know :/; ideas?

try holding down the power button for 15 seconds
Hold the power button 15 seconds, let go, then try again for another 7 seconds.
Wow, that actually worked, thank you so much (held it till it turned on, about 10-15 seconds). Would you happen to know why it had just turned off like that? I'm at 81% battery now, so it turned off at some point on its own, and why did I have to do such a long power button press?

i believe there is a sleep mode/lock hiccup sometimes. I experience it with my media dock but not my keyboard dock. its weird and sometimes annoying but not too much to kill my day lol
Yeah this happened to me too. Just a small quirk.
Oh, ok, thanks guys lol I had like freaked out.
I got my Tab yesterday. Used it then set it charging overnight. Won't power on this morning. The back does get warm though. I tried holding down the power button for at least a minute and also tried the 15 then 7 approach. Nothing.
I also tried an idea from a different forum (referencing a Froyo glitch) and tried touching the screen while holding the power button.
Does this sound like a hardware fail?
I had the same problem. Held the power button for 15 seconds and then 7 and nothing happened. Held the power button for a long time. What do I do next?
Mine didnt turn on today. Tried the 15 second press procedure and nothing happened. I grabbed my wall charger and plugged it in and left it sitting there for a minute. I tried the 15 second procedure again and this time the screen lit up and was showing that the battery was charging because it was in red. After about a minute the tab booted itself and all is normal now. I guess my battery went dead since i hadnt charged it and completley turned off my tab. Thats why it rebooted itself. Nothing to worry about.
happened to me too
looks like there is a glitch ... mine was left charging today ... and it did charge but did not want to start... i did leave it on.
I connected to PC and press Power ON + Volume Up + VOlume down all at the same time and it did seem to restart ... worried there is something wrong with it though.
I bought it in USA and Im in UK I wonder if things go wrong if Samsung UK would repair it.
I've had it for about 9 days and have used it every single day. Last night I downloaded 2 movies onto it and everything was fine. Today it would not power on one bit! I charged it over night so the battery shouldn't have drained. I ended up fixing my problem by doing the following:
Held the power button.
At the same time, placed a finger on the screen.
Held it down for 15 seconds or more and it booted up!
Not sure why it only worked when I put my finger on the screen.
I ended up exchanging it either way just in case.

For some reason this keeps happening to me when I leave it to charge over night.

this also happened to me for the first time this morning from leaving it on charge overnight.
however i was able to start it by removing cable and holding power for 15secs.
what could be causing this? I hope it doesn't happen every night.
I had this problem as well a few weeks ago. Samsung sent me a shipping label and told me to ship it back. I got it back in just under 10 days. They never did tell me what was wrong but they shipped back my original Tab.
Guys,
Is this happening when you leave it booted up and charging overnight or is the unit powered off and charging?
I will say that this issue has only happened to me one time and it happened under the following conditions (Ive had a Tab sense launch day):
- Battery was at 35%.
- While booted, I plugged it in to charge overnight.
- The next day at 09:00 I attempted to use it and had to hold the power button for 15 sec to get it to boot.
So, It *might* only happen if its booted with low battery and you charge it overnight. Powering it off and charging doesnt appear to cause it at all in my case.
Yes it happened while powered on and left to charge overnight. Battery was probably around 30-40% as you said.
Still doesn't explain why it would happen regardless of the % of battery left. Hence the reason it's meant to be charging.
I've had it happen very quickly. High level of charge, plug it in, walk off, come back, unplug, and it's dead, need the 15 second press to power back on.
Not a huge deal, but annoying. And a bit scary, since mine went into the "sleep of death" once already, took four days for the battery to drain enough to break the nvflash loop it was in.

My nexus 4 refuses to turn on while attached to the charger

I got my nexus 4 on Tuesday morning, plugged it in to the charger, waited until it reached 100%, then inserted my sim card, turned it on, upgraded through OTA from 4.2 to 4.2.2 and then set up my usual things. I discharged the battery from 100% to 16%, then I turned it off and plugged to the charger. I turned it on when it was at 95%, and unplugged from the charger because I had to get out of home. This morning it was roughly at 30%, then I turned it off and plugged it to the charger. Later I turned it on, it was at 93%, so I waited until 100% before unplugging. It stood ages at 99%, so I turned it off. A little bit later I tried to turn it on, and when I pushed the power button it showed that the battery was charged, then the image disappeared and the led began blinking in red until I released the power button. I unplugged it, then powered on, and it booted, everything as normal: but the battery was on 94%. I plugged it in and after one minute it was already at 99%. I turned it off, then pressed the power button, but same behaviour: image, then red led blinking. So I plugged the phone to my galaxy nexus charger, waited for a little, and then same behaviour again. So I unplugged it, turned it on, and when I was in the system I saw that the battery was on 100%.
Now the battery is normally discharging while using it, no strange values.
What should I do now? Should I let it discharge until it turns off, or should I never let it discharge until it turns off? And should I charge it with the stock charger or the galaxy nexus charger? I'll be grateful to everyone makes me know what he thinks.
Excuse me for my poor English and for how much I wrote, I would make things clear as possible.

I am sorry for my lazy, I only skim through your post, but I do read the question.
I read somewhere in this 4rum that the Nexus4's battery can be charged at anytime you want.
FOr me, I usually use the phone until 20-30%, then I turn my phone off and charge.
For my brother, he charge without any pattern, and he doesn't turn the phone off when charging.
For my own opinion, you shouldn't use the phone until the batter is empty.
Notice the same thing 3 times with my Nexus. Have searched for a answer to this but no one has a answer I guess or just ignore it. I just power up without it being plug in ..
R: My nexus 4 refuses to turn on while attached to the charger
Now it's at 13%, i'll plug it in the next 10 minutes, then i'll see what will happen this time. Very strange indeed.. I'm only a little bit scared about the "red led death" i read about here and there over the internet.

I never turn mine off. I charge it all night every night when I sleep. Stays on.
Send it back? Rma?
as above i charge my device every night, its never powered off,. is the device hot while charging not like usual warm temp, but very hot that the device detects an issue?
the battery stats are wiped each time its charged, i guess you have some internal failure, battery not being detected after you disconnect from mains or reported as flat, faulty, unreliable source
its best not to fully discharge the battery but maybe you should use it till it powers off then recharge, any charger is fine, but you dont need anything higher than 1amp
i would return it, would suck to have an issue away from home.

[Solved; Ignore] Phone on "charge" at 0% Instantly turns off when charger is removed.

[Solved; Ignore] Phone on "charge" at 0% Instantly turns off when charger is removed.
As the title suggests, my phone will only turn on when the charger is plugged in and the battery stats say "0% Charging (AC) - 0s on battery".
Little background. I just flashed stock and AK 301 kernel as well as the latest libs. Phone turned on just fine, battery was at 50%.
I then decided to run Antutu for the hell of it to see if there were any performance changes etc.
Whilst Antutu was running the phone just powered off and wouldn't power back on. I had a red blinking light and that was it.
Eventually I managed to boot in to recovery after following advice to hold power + vol down for 15 seconds then plug the charger in.
The phone was on charge for about 3 hours with the LED still blinking at me.
When I managed to get in to recovery I flashed the only ROM I had on there after wiping all data etc. Which was Mahdi ROM.
Now when I turned the phone on, after many failed attempts, the battery icon is completely depleted with the charging icon inside the battery and as said in my first sentence it says 0% Charging and as soon as I take the charger out, the phone turns off instantly and won't turn back on nor will it blink until I put the charger back in.
Does anyone know whats going on? Could the battery have come loose somehow? I'd like to open it up but I don't have the required screwdriver to do so, anyone know any other way I can crack the case open without damage?
Any help or suggestions are most welcome. I can't return it on warranty as I bought this phone 1 year ago on the 4th June... Of course this had to happen 6 days after warranty expired!
I think I spoke too soon.
I just decided to hold the power button and vol down until the phone completely switched off. Turned it back on and now my battery says 32%.And as of writing this it's now up to 34%. So it's actually showing that it's charging now, whereas earlier the phone was on for about 20 minutes and said 0% the whole time.
Odd. That's all I have to say.
I can't delete my post for some reason. So I'll just flag it as answered. Sorry about that.

S8 not turning on after leaving it to charge overnight, completely unresponsive

I left the phone on charge last night, I vaguely remember it being around 30-40%, I took it off charge around 7 hours later to find it was not turning on, but the notification LED was red.
I saw online somewhere that I had to hold the volume down button with the power button for around 10 seconds, I did this and the only thing that happened was the red LED notification disappeared.
Now the phone seems completely unresponsive. No light when I try to charge it. Nothing on the display screen either.
I've checked the basics and the cable and charger work perfectly fine.
Thanks.
You should go to a service. It's the full decharge issue which seen on some Note 8's and i guess you are facing with it on your S8.

Axon 7 woun't turn on for no reason

Hello, I got this morning an issue with my ZTE Axon 7. Turned my phone off for the night and when I got up I plugged it in to charge it. The orange led didn't turn on. It tried to replug it but no change. I tried to charge it with my power bank - the power bank indicated charging but the phone still didn't respond anyhow. Then I decided to just turn it on as there was still around 40% of the battery as I remember. However, the phone didn't start. I have tried to hold the power button for a long time, held "turn on" with the "volume up" or "down" but nothing - the phone didn't respond at all while being a brick. I didn't smash it, drop or hit. What can I try else to do besides going to the repair service? Thank you!
Was your battery having problems before this happened, or was it working fine?
My battery is somewhat shot and does that thing where it will shut down when in use around 40%, and then if restarted claims 1%. It can, however, be coaxed to recharge but sometimes won't at first acknowledge that it's plugged in.
