My Redmi 8A, updated with MIUI 11.0.4, 2G / 32GB. It has a good capacity for multitasking, of course this depends a lot on the amount of Ram consumed by the applications, say that for basic processes such as messaging applications, the web browser, the camera, the notepad and the calendar, the calculator. etc., It moves fluid between applications.
Now when you start Games that consume a lot of Ram, or applications like Kinemaster for video editing, then the performance or speed with which you can access each application is lower, and it takes a little longer to move between tasks, but it is still acceptable for a Low Range equipment, according to my opinion, then I gave it a Medium score, I could still have more, being a Low Range smartphone.
Greetings!

huh? if you're referring to my 'supposed' launch times those are just estimates or rather more accurately comparisons. generally speaking, when you touch a launcher on an android system rocking 1ghz + 1gb ram it may as well be instant. if you can't measure the time without slow motion.. now lets look at webtop 2.0
click the firefox icon and start counting. this isn't science. this is pointing out the obvious that was obviously overlooked? xD
A.aaron you just hit the nail on the head of why I ditched that oddly wonderful webtop. I couldn't put a finger on it but you did; waiting several seconds to launch good old lightweight firefox on a dual core 1gb ddr2 ram linux machine, and it takes forever! This wasn't even something I realized when I used it so much, as it was easily overloaded. I liked it, but I couldn't quite figure out why I repeatedly wanted vanilla android. It was the obviously overlooked, the stupidly slow speed of webtop for the quite capable hardware. A complete disappointment, further hampered by carrier stupidity. Anyhow, I still think the AP20H is powerful:
Ever played C.H.A.O.S? runs butter smooth stock kernel maximum settings, and much smoother than a CM9 touchpad overclocked to dual core snapdragon s3 at 1.7 ghz. This thing can handle a lot, if the software didn't suck. Webtop 3.0 looks like the anti-suck, being android itself presented much more reasonably
i believe that's specifically why they scripted in autostart. i'm not sure why they wasted like 60px for the dock because essentially its ffos. if they'd advertised it as that it would at least appear to be what it actually is. but i mean, have you tried to scroll facebook in that thing? lol
webtop 3 is a step in the right direction. as a student i can use the office apps native to the platform to do my work assuming i have a decent size screen and reliable input. i've got that, i just need the os =D
and i'll prove it, assuming we get the update this quarter.
The Netflix app sucks major ass. Probably should have used a better example.
Also, showing screenshots from two completely different devices gets kinda confusing.
Instagram causes overheating on my Galaxy. When its i stalled and work in backround my CPU load is high and battery drain + overheating. Why? Is my phone corrupted?

What is the evidence that your phone is overheating? Your screen shot shows a temperature of 50C and an apparent peak of 70C. If you had looked at existing posts on this subject, you'd know that these temperatures are well within the normal operating range..
You need to spell out your assumptions and provide a lot more information. Do you think 50C is overheating? What temperatures do you see when transcoding a movie, gaming or some other processor intensive activity? Are you using a bunker type (very thick) case? How long does Instagram keep the processor busy after you stop using it?
Do you have any reason or evidence of corruption? Did you experience any system error messages and if so what were they, verbatim? On the basis of the limited details you posted nothing is wrong, your phone didn't overheat and you have no reason to be concerned.
.
This app shows 72.50°C not 50. You didnt't read properly. Its hard to touch my Galaxy with that temp. When i kill Instagram working in background with Clean Master it stops overheat. No case used.

Haha. When i first openned this app had the same problem. Stupid but yes it's 72,50. Anyway another screen. Its something wrong with Instagram app or my phone? Now device is cooler but as you can see it's about Instagram app.
Instagram works fine on my phone, why don't you try reinstalling the app? Sounds stupid but it might fix the problem, you never know :silly:

The app does not show 72.50°C. It actually shows "72." and on a separate line, "50°C". Making it ambiguous at best what the 72 represents. It's certainly not clear that the two lines are meant to be combined.
Regardless, you're missing the essential point again. 72.50C is also well within the normal operating range. All that temperature tells you is that your processor is under heavy load at the moment. You still haven't provided any information about how often this happens, how long it stays at the level or much of anything else.
72C is not some untenable temperature just because some third party app (that you didn't even mention in your original post) issues a caution. And that is all that is. A caution that your temperature is on the high end of normal at the moment.

Hi, can anyone do few benchmarks and also point out MIUI version?
1. Please install Geekbench + Androbench, reboot the phone, turn off everything from background (apps and such) and do Androbench first, then Geekbench.
2. Please install PC Mark for Android, turn off everything from behind and post the results.
3. Feel free to add any benchmarks you like, thanks!
Also report about performance in app, smoothness, load times on big apps, and general performance.

I can't tell you exactly because I have installed a few apps and I do not feel like resetting it atm! But I would guess just over 10gb free space.
what I am wondering is if there is any actual difference in performance between this and the prime version and also if this one can be overclocked to match the primes performance if there is any difference.. I would be interested in seeing youtube videos on this phone .. but there is nothing out there yet..

Yes,16GB ver. I reset my device and checked storage. After resetting, available storage is 10.72GB. After uninstalling Chinese apps, available storage is 11.4GB.

What mainstream phones is the Redmi Note 2 Prime comparable to?
I'd like to upgrade from my dead Galaxy Note 2 and am looking for something inexpensive but that's still an upgrade in specs.
I found a nice long review here with more benchmarks and info on the device: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uR_la5ngaco
I didn't know about dragon glass, so apparently it is comparable to the old Gorilla Glass 2, which is what I had on my G2, and which is the reason I have the RN2 now so I will make sure I don't drop it again: http://agcem.com/index.php/dragontrail/15-cover-glass
There are also two reviews on Youtube with people doing scratch tests.

Hi,
Somebody to post a screen of Basemark OS II ? Thank you.
many of us have had enough, let's face it the old school kitkat style of Huawei's multitasking/recent apps is a joke and destroy the whole workflow and multitasking of the device
My Plan is to collect as many names as possible and I will send it to Huawei.
What makes me angry is that even Huawei 8 seem to have the same multitasking look.
Vote in the poll and write in the thread what you voted.
THIS is what multitasking on android SHOULD look like.

How does a diffrent launcher help it help nothing at all!
the multitask/recent app button will still lead to the same EMUI based multi task page which looks terrible.
Bad overview and slow, force you to swipe thru pages inastead of see all open tabs in one page in an overview.

Well on the Mate 7 forum 78% does not like the EMUI recent apps multitasking.
Well the sad part is there is no easy way to get rid of this EMUI multitasking, a different launcher will not help, if you go thru great pain to root the device and modify the software a lot you can get rid of it, but it is not easy. If it was possible to change with laucnher it wold be no problem, unless you root no matter what you do if you push the multitask/recent apps button it will lead to the EMUI recent app pages, which is usless, the main reason for that it lacks of "overview, only "4 taps" are visible, while with android vanilla way you can over 20 tabs or more visible in just an overview, which is very superior, also it goes a lot faster to swipe thru all tabs, while in the EMUI you have to swipe thru packages, this is typical "chinese brainless" software design. That it looks almost the same for the Mate 8 does make me very angry, this is a dealkiller for me, multi tasking is important, I used the LG G3 for 3 months during my Mate 7 was on repair I did really like the standard recent app tabs, it is so superior so much faster and flexible, I have no idea why the chinese do not see this, there is no benifit at all with EMUI's recent apps functionality, it is also to slow and responsive to be useful. it should be fast and snappy as it was on ,y LG G3. Shame on you Huawei...I hope you are reading this.

100% ok for multitasking... No lag
Ram
What is your ram usage? On boot my p20 pro has left 3.5gb of ram. After half a day 3gb left. But after 1day has only 1.5-2.5 gb left. I always close apps and use that optimisation program and it does not celan up apps for 3gb left. Is this normal for this phone? Only reboot helps and it clean up to 3.6gb
Guys just let the apps open in the background! That's why we have so much RAM. It just consumes more battery to open the apps again and again. Apps im RAM consume no battery. If RAM should be full which is really hard with 6 GB then the system will clean itself.
Chrome keeps terminating for me
After update to EMUI 9 my multitasking gets some problems... like blu "filter" first time I open the multitasking (then going normal) and very little ram free without reason.... In 8.1 I've got 2/3 gb normally used. Same apps.

Same here. Every app is closed when switching apps. No multitasking possible. A reboot freed some RAM, but I think just for a certain time. Hope this will be fixed soon.
Agreed. Multitasking completely broken. Sometimes I even get a blank screen with a trashcan instead of a list of apps.

Weird...I am on official .163 firmware, received by OTA and I have none of your problems...Multitasking is very good...2.5-3GB free on average, and 3.7GB free after a reboot. I never saw that blue tint when multitasking...But I think it depends on the region, because while I was checking Firmware Finder I read a log from an update, can't remember the region and it was specifically mentioned that the blue tint bug was fixed, but it wasn't for C432,which I use. Just wait for an OTA.

Had the problem with .163(November) update with .195(January security) it's gone
Finding the memory management to be extremely poor. In this image I had only Slack open (and freshly so) and my RAM is MIA.
The second I'm switching apps they're killed - it was already aggressive before Pie but now even more so
Just to update that with last release 293 the bug with multitasking is disappeared.
Good news. I can use Hyperion or Nova Launcher now.
Mediocre performance, swap file is on by default.
Coming from a Oneplus 5, the difference is simply night and day.
I have the 6GB RAM version of the P20 Pro. I have not had issues with RAM as other users have been pointing out. Everything works fine for me.
