Strange Emoji Issue OP6T Android 10 - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Hi guys
I cleaned flashed Android 10 to my OnePlus 6T
But get an odd emoji issue.
I see the attached envelope symbol in twitter notifications / messages, and in various applications. I also do t get any emojis appear in gboard,I've cleared the data and it feels to be an OS / system wide issue
Any ideas what this could be?
It's the envelope symbol next to the word Fourm in the example attached. It should be an emoji of some sort.

I just realized that I have no emojis in Gboard either. I'm on stable 10, clean flash.

I have this issue too. All Unicode characters aside from latin alphanumeric don't show, e.g. Japanese & Chinese characters are all boxes like your screenshot.
Edit: I should add, this is everywhere (all apps, keyboard, browser etc).

These issues are because of Reserve Partition. OnePlus in their infinite Wisdom, in order to save space in /system/media and /system/apps decided to move a bunch of stuff (emojis, fonts & OnePlus Apps eg. Notes, Icon Packs) to a new Partition namely /system/reserve. And then they Symlinked it to /system/apps and /system/media. However during OTA, the Symlink breaks. And the result is what you are experiencing. What's strange is that a clean install nor data wipe fixes it.

Probably...wait a few weeks for them to release 10.01
I typically don't install the "first release" of a phone OS...be it Oppo/OnePlus or anyone else.
Security patches are one thing, but most of the time, an unknown bug(s) aren't found until
they put it out in the wild. Might also be the reason I had read on other sites they had stopped
the release.

Doing a full restore and re flashing oos 10 fixed this issue for me. Not ideal. But works as it should do now that I started from scratch

[Q] Creating parent failed, error No space left on device while updating to Lollipop

I'm trying to side load the OTA for Lollipop using adb and the files available from Google. My device is unlocked and rooted.
I run the commands to sideload the zip file and everything seems to be working fine until I get this:

I've cleared the cache partition but to no avail.
Does anyone have any insight or am I going to have to wipe everything?
Well I went ahead and did a Flash Stock + Unroot and now it's worse. No error messages. Just the android with the red triangle exclamation mark.
I'm getting fed up with this crap. Every time there is an OTA I have to jump through hoops to get it running again.
Anyone have clues about what to do now?

If you already flashed stock and lost you user data plus can still get into the bootloader, then I suggest using a factory image to upgrade to Lollipop. I've ignored OTA's and have been applying the factory image for a while.
Not in this case but for next time, with the aid of root, a custom recovery to make a nandroid backup, Titanium backups for apps and user data. Prior to applying a factory image save a copy of the Titanium Backup directory, the nandroid backup plus any sundry files that were not backed up to a OTG SDCard (an OTG cable plus USB SDCared reader), getting back to your specific set up is not all that complicated. Plus you get to "spring clean" any old cruft that has built up wasting internal storage.
See: How to install Android Lollipop factory image on Nexus 5, 7 and 10 (and keep your data)
I have the same problem
I had system partition full after L update. I did it with factory image. I had to remove some apps from system to get adaway, busybox and so on working.
How to get more system space??

Deleting apps from /system is the only option that I've heard of. You cannot change the /system partition size even if you have spare internal storage. If you're rooted then this sounds worse than it is because there is plenty of apps you likely do not use (e.g. some of the google apps like news). You're also unlikely to use some of the foreign language apps. Even some of the main Google aps get updated out side of /system making the the /system apks redundant.
Without even trying hard I removed 86MBs worth then installed all I wanted (e.g. busybox, Viper4Android ... etc) and still have 54Mg free. So I could have left a lot of apps installed but I'd never use them anyway.
You can delete /system apks if your rooted with a number of different apps:
- Titanium Backup
- A Root enabled file manager like ES File Explorer
- My personal favourite System app remover (ROOT)
Lots of options.
Skullpuck, did you find a solution?
Did you guys try ADB version 1.0.32 or newer? Something has changed in the sideload command (could be only when using TWRP, not sure)

During testing when I flashed back to stock b164 I used unmodified Ssu beta 3 for rooting, there is one user in Ssu beta thread who has problems with latest beta on his p10. What kind of modification if I may ask?

huawei should have a cross development forum thread like sony devices, it would be easier to find relevant information, I have to flash back to stock and root with beta 3, I don't remember any problems on my side, he has problems with security(pin code, fingerprint).
Hi There.
Succesfully installed. I have issues with the Gallery.. If I open it it says insufficient storage space....
Also MiXplorer shows what looks like encrypted folders in the Internal Storage section???
Any help would be appreciated.
Did you format your data partition before you flashed this?
Pretty nice
So it seems that installing and flashing Huawei devices is quite the hassle.
Issues I currently experience on this ROM:
Cannot open Gplay not opening.
Plugging in usb cable into windows or linux doesn't get recognised.
I will update with more details later today
update:
reformatted /data /system and reinstalled, no more issues!
Rom works fine, as fine as could be expected of a rooted stock rom.
Here is a script for L09 User.
Just install Rom and Data Files from start post and then this zip file.
Its untested because my tester have only L29 devices. But it should work.

Have installed and all is working great. There's only 1 issue that I'm facing. The first time I change my wallpaper on the homescreen, there are many lines that will appear on the wallpaper. Anyone facing this? The lockscreen and app drawer area is fine. Anyone can advice? I would prefer my home screen wallpaper to be clean.

Yeah that was it... Figured it out myself... Realised I missed something somewhere.
So far the Rom is running great!
When I open Magisk Manager and try to install Magisk, I get an error that the zip file could not be extracted.
Any ideas?
Check the MagiskManager Folder. Is there the zip?

Can extract it as well with Mixplorer.
Should I flash the zip via TWRP?

Thank you for your response. Yes, I should have mentioned that I did do some research prior to posting, but the results I found, all either (as you link to) required Magisk SU, or (official?) CyanogenMod/LineageOS based ROM's (as shown here: https://labs.xda-developers.com/store/app/com.bhb27.isu ).
The reason I posted my question being that I am using SuperSU and the unofficial LineageOS 15.0 by vache (https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/development/rom-lineageos-15-0-t3673573 ), and therefore - by all definitions - am not eligible for any of those solutions.
But you're right - I should've made that clear. Tho, one could make the argument that you also could've made ur point in a slightly less presumptuous, arrogant and wannabe superior way

Didn't intend to be arrogant. Sorry for giving you that impression. I'm using Los 15 by vache too. In 'the old days' I used SuperSU, but, imho, that's outdated. Magisk has become the new standard for me, in combination with the safeteynet fix, it's perfect. It passes the safeteynet and you can download and use all 'root critical' apps like Pokémon Go, Netflix, Snapchat, etc.

Cool, thanks. I have been away from "the android game" for some years, but have just recently got this Moto G5.. so yea, I don't really know what's "new" in the world of android customization. When I was doing this last time, it was all about Superuser, CM, Xposed framework, and apps like 4ext, a2sd, titanium, etc.. the old times..
Anyways, thank you for the update. A quick question; what would you recommend as the best procedure for switching over to Magisk - can I just flash it over the SuperSU, or would you recommend the whole big backup and clean re-install approach..?
- H
Well, imho you have 2 basic options.
1. Make a Titanium Backup, go to TWRP, wipe cache, dalvik-cache, system and data. Reinstall LOS15, gapps and magisk. After setting up your device reinstall your apps using Titanium Backup. Install the safeteynet fix AFTER the first boot with magisk installed. So basically this is a clean install.
2. Go to TWRP. Wipe just the system partition. Reinstall the rom, gapps, magisk and, after a reboot, the Safetynet fix. All your apps should still be there... No garantee, but it should work.
Good luck!

Changing navbar icons and color without overlay?

On Nougat still on a H870. I'm trying to change the navbar icons and their color, but every app or tutorial seems to use overlays and need root to keep running. I'd prefer to replace the actual icons in the system and later unroot. Is there a means to do so?
Substratum + Andromeda
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g6/themes/substratum-lg-ui-accent-color-navbars-t3797860
Andromeda is Oreo-only and Substratum isn't working at all for me, no changes get applied.
I assume you are still on Nougat, that's why Substratum is not working for you.
Substratum Legacy is supposed to work on rooted nougat phones, no?
And oddly enough, the navbar icon changes worked.. but only until I restored a backup of my system after flashing a different ROM in between. Makes no sense at all.
Yes, it should work on AOSP roms. LG stock rom is heavy modified, so most of substratum stuff for AOSP will not work on it.
LGTweaks specifically targets the LG G6 structure, though, so it should work. But for some reason, it seems to require a system wipe before it does.

Wondering, how does a system wipe on the same OS make LGTweaks start working? Also make sure you're using the LG theme (aka no theme), but you probably know that already ?.
That's what I am wondering. I had stock rom (rooted), applied LGTweaks Navbar icons, it didn't work. I made a full backup of the rom as it was then. I dirty flashed Fulmics ROM over it, didn't like it, restored my backup, and once it booted back into my restored system, I suddenly had the changed navbar.

Sure it wasn't the action of rebooting a few times that made it work?
Yep, I had rebooted four times before that, and also tried shutting down and starting again.
On my old G2, I was able to simply replace the png files of the navbar icons in a system file. However, any tutorial I find, even for LG, mentions files I can't find on the G6 at all. Can anyone tell me where these icons are located on the G6?
I think I got it. For some reason, there were two LGTweaks navbar apk packages in system/vendor/overlays. Once I deleted both, it started working normally. On top of that, by compiling the source myself and just adding a new folder with my own PNG icons to the proper folder, I was able to put my own icons in there.

You can use an app like this one called "Pixel Navbar (No Root) now with animations" (literally the first search result for "pixel navbar" on the Play Store). However, you'll have to buy it to have it re-enable itself automatically after rebooting your phone.
If this isn't your cup of tea, then you'll just have to wait for Oreo so you can use Substratum.

Yes, and it also adds a notification which you can't clear... That's why I personally never used it ?
Just install xposed framework in magisk and install xstana module in xposed after that u can choose a stat and navbar theme in that app
Apparently doesn't pass safetynet, so it's no go for me.

odd. May I ask what application you're using to show the status of your storage so I can try it out myself. I'm rooted running a custom ROM and kernel. Maybe its the app misreading/analyzing your storage?

I am on stock OOS 9.0.13 and only have 80MB free on my /system partition.
Since the /system partition is supposed to be read only then it wouldn't really matter if it is full, nothing will be writing to it anyway.
I have never had issues because of this and I remember even with my 5T the /system partition was always 99% full.
So there's probably nothing to worry about.

If you look in the OB11 thread there are a lot of people with your same issue. I don't think there's a fix, other than using the MSM tool and going back to stable.
Oh, and FYI, if you use TWRP to extend the storage of your system partition, you'll lose everything.

I just checked and it does seem that Swift installer modifies the /system partition. I have never had any issues with it though.
If you need more space in /system delete an app you don't use like Google Movies or Google Duo or something.
Or if you want all the space you can get then use this debloater script from Tomatot ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...ol-tomatot-debloater-basic-script-to-t3869427 )

It won't be a problem if you use systemless module for it:

I'm using systemless substratum themes and have no problem with little space.
