As the title says, do I need to unlock-oem if I want to reflash the current ROM.
I'm out of the warrenty and my S8 might had a not so smooth update, it fails to boot in 1 go, it reboots twice before it boots and when the screen is too long off it kills the current applications (reddit, Pokémon GO, some more).
Edit: the rom is currently STOCK rom and recovery is also still STOCK

For stock firmware no you don't need to unlock the bootloader ( OEM ).
You could also try first in recovery mode wiping cache/dalvik if that doesn't work try a factory reset ( will lose data/3 party apps ) restores phone to original state.

What I want to do is install a stock non rooted rom, kernel, and recovery. I am not sure how to change recovery to stock either is it like flashing a rom? Please give me some links for these I can't seem to find them, besides the stock kernel I found that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------The reason I want the above is bellow, if it matters.-----------------------------------------------------
My phone is about 95% broken.
Before, every rom/kernel combination would randomly restart, it was my phone it self I believe.
I went to a stock rooted rom, but then it restarted, and my lock screen worked, yet my home screen was black all i could do was slide my status bar down.
After that i restarted my self and then it got stock forever on the screen where it says Samsung galaxy s4.
The 5% working part is my recovery, for the most part.
I keep having to do a full wipe, not just system wipe otherwise it says error unable to mount preload or i/o or a few other things, I have to system wipe before every rom attempt.
I tried several popular roms such as sacs and triforce and a few other roms and all the kernels also.
The phone will turn on, work for a little normally, then crash again and go into the infinite loading screen where is simply says galaxy s4.
This phone is only 3 months old, so I want to take it back to sprint being completely stock so they give me a new phone.
I need links to files I need, and if i am forgetting to change anything back to stock please let me know. Thank you.
I replied to you in the newbie thread, but to return to complete stock download the latest firmware from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and install it with odin. Do a factory reset before and after install to make sure you have cleared out what ever is causing your problems. After this process you will be completely stock and unrooted. If you are still having problems after this it is probably hardware related.
Hey guys,
the phone:
Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F
Last official firmware:
G900FXXU1POJ2 (VD2) 5.0 Germany
I flashed TWRP via Odin
Then SuperSU via ODIN
Then installed a custom recovery.
After full install and reboot it hangs on the first screen and I cannot touch it. It won't do anything. Reboots, deleting cache won't help.
Do you know what I did wrong or why I can't use my phone anymore?

I installed a freshly new official stock rom, it'll boot but won't go any further and bootloops.
Then I tried a CM - ROM and it's the same with another rom. The touchscreen doesn't work. But the touch works on TWRP. That's really weird.
It freezes, the LED is always on and the softbuttons too.
ask you if you have this problem before root
lol twrp is costume recovery and just flash twrp and applied the supersu.zip and its done phone rooted
but if you have problem after touch think
1- you don't flash the true cm ( klte is for 900F )
2- your touch panel is damaged
3- for your original stock rom ( lag ) ty to wipe data and cache ( attention you will lose your data with )

- I was on official vodafone germany firmware.
- Phone told me to get the last update
- Phone installed last update
- After installation phone was bootloopin
- I did hard reset
- Phone booted up until it said, that it is installing a few applications (you know what I mean)
- While installing progress of that it restarted and installed and restarted and so on..
So I decided to get a custom rom.
- I flashed TWRP for KFTL (I have SM-G900F) via ODIN.
- Everything works fine.
- I flashed Chainfires SuperSU via ODIN.
- Everything works fine.
- I installed a custom ROM (eg: The Galaxy Project)
- It booted and then freezes.
So after that I was afraid and flashed a stock rom via Odin but it was the same with the official OTA-update from Samsung. Reboots while installing first apps.
Then I tried with CM but it freezes too. I am sure it has nothing to do with the screen.
On official (stock) ROMs it reboots while installing first apps.
On custom ROMs it freezes. It won't go any further. It must be something else. Any ideas?
BTW: I have another SM-G900F and it works flawlessly. I know that I am doing.
what y mean freeze the phone or just touch ( but bottom work like vol )
if only touch think is damaged

Hm. If you boot up your phone for the first time or after hard reset or after an update it boots up and then there comes the very first message that android is preparing the apps for the first start, right? On official firmware it bootloops when that message comes.
On CyanogenMod it boots until this Screen:
And then it freezes.
I can't believe that it has to be the touch panel, because everything works fine in TWRP. The phone won't let me go any further than the first Screen. And the touch can't be damaged. Before I did the official Samsung update everything works fine.

hey guys, today i bought a used NOTE 4 for my mother, and when i checked the version it was 6.0.1...so i wiped everything and restarted the phone to get the best performance....but the phone lags and freezes a lot, especially in the camera, and it keep restarting all the time....what should i do? should i try to flash another FW through ODIN?
You mean you used the Factory reset option? That's not a full wipe, just resetting stuffs. And yes, you know the answer, wipe everything from a custom recovery, then flash stock MM ROM (always latest) via Odin. Earlier versions did have a reboot problem though, and lags here and there, but that's expected, but the last release, PE1, has got rid of all those problems, its a very good release already, and I am sure upcoming releases will only make it better. There are no major bugs at all, I don't even find any minor bugs except the need for a separate app to clear default apps selection.
Best of luck.

the phone is stock, it has the stock recovery, and i have the PE1 version, the exact name is "MMB29M.N910FXXU1DPE1"...and still got a lot of lag, freeze and rebooting.....is there another version?
EDIT: ok, so i flashed another MM through odin ( first time it gave me a fail) and then done a factory reset, now it's so much better, maybe not as smooth as my S6 but really fast and smooth enough...thanks for the help
EDIT: today the phone started to shutdown completly....not reboot....and you need to press the power button 10 seconds to reboot it or turn it on...is there any advice?
Guys . Ib tead the whole thread over last few day had wake lovk runnimg last couple weeks. Lastnight used kies for reset and it crashed half way.
I then used odin 307 and went back to stock 501
It booted strarted to restore from google apps ect .
I allowed the 1st 601 update
All apps running aok no crashing freezing no wakelock .. its asking for another 601 update. Im gonna hold back
Hope this helps .. will post agian in gew days with any updates
Good luck !!
Just download and install Wake Lock from Google Play Store. I had the same problem and more. Once I installed Wake Lock (on a fresh install from Android 5 up to all the 6.0..1 builds) phone doesn't shut off or freeze. Most importantly no more Boot Loops..
i have been trying to install a good rom on my s5. i know that since i have an 11' toshiba chip, i cant do any major custom roms only stock touchwiz roms. i have 3 or 4 that i have found that actually work on my phone and when i tried a new rom today, it didn't work. so i flashed 4.4.2 again to start from scratch and i went back to my usual stock deodexed rom that is always a for sure rom that works. today when i flashed it, twrp (safestrap) prompts me to either boot normally or to continue. i have had this problem in the past, and whenever it shows that screen, it will never boot up, after the prompt it will just have a black screen for about 5 min. before booting stock recovery. if i boot it up again, safestrap will still prompt me if i want to boot recovery or continue and keep repeating this cycle. last time, it had resolved itself and didnt show up after wiping and reflashing my rom. this time it wont go away and my phone wont boot anything. thanks in advance

Find youre phones firmware and put phone into download mode and flash firmware!
OKay long story if you're interested in details, this is different to the other bootloop issues, I think this is HW related.
1- Phone suddenly started getting into booting loops. Phone never rooted nor flashed with customer ROMS..
2- Strangely this happened after an official update from Samsung.
3- Booting in recovery mode, wiping cashe and rebooting helped and the phone worked but only for a month or so until it started getting into the loop again.
4- This time it's more stubborn, it doesn't even allow me into recovery mode, it reboots before I can do anything.
5- once every 50+ times it would allow me into recovery mode, I tried wiping cache and factory reset but they didn't help, phone always restart after the samsung logo appears.
6- I thought this is the time I try flashing a custom ROM and see since it was on Stock ROM, but unfortunately realized I had OEM disabled and hence FAP ON and can't flash custom ROMS (or can I?).
7- I thought to flash stock ROM again using Odin. I did so, nothing different, still getting the same issue and now even worse, it would sometimes just give a black screen with flashing blue light.
8- something weird regarding the Stock ROM, my devise is G-SM935FD, however, the latest official update samsung installed on my device changed it to G-SM395F, I know they are mostly the same but trying to use the latest ROM from Sammobile for SM935FD wouldn't work. only the one for SM935F is accepted by download mode. Probably it's because I bought the phone from Dubai (395FD) but then moved to Portugal, so it started sending me the updates related to Europe.
Now at the moment, the phone can't load beyond the samsung logo. It can occasionally get into recovery mode. The only stable mode is download mode but I can't flash any customer rom or twrp because of FAP ON.. so I can only flash stock ROMs which didn't change anything. Does anyone know a way out of that? maybe a ROM that can bypass the FAP ON and uses less processing to load. I know I'm probably asking for something magical and I would most probably not get any answers over here.
I have no warranty and the phone is in a horrible condition so I am not sure if taking it to Samsung would be useful at all.
