TITLE EDIT: It's a Droid X, sorry!
Hey all,
Forgive my ignorance on this subject. I am new to android phones. I tried following the instructions to get the OneClickRoot but it didn't work (checked with an app). I've tried several different times, different wires, different versions of the OneClickRoot software but nothing!
I have Windows 7. No Linux or Ubuntu. I'm trying to understand the CD approach but it's going over my head. Do I have to burn CD? And what is .621? My android says it's up to date.
If anyone can point me in the right direction here, I would be so greatful! I want to get rid of all this bloatware and overclock it.
Thank you so much!
sd_shadow just posted a in depth how to on rootzwiki. I can't post the link because I don't have enough posts yet.
It's a great walk through though. I'd suggest you go check it out.
Don't be afraid of how long it is. Once you actually do it, it's pretty easy and quick.
Basically,
You make a bootable usb or cd. Boot your PC using it. Then follow the on screen prompts.

I have tried both methods in the post and in both cases after the daemon starts the cursor just blink and nothing else happens. Any idea on what is hanging me up. The phone is a DX unmodified with 4.5.621MB810.Verizon.en.US
try toggling usb debugging off/on
stock moto usb data cable?
charge only or pc mode
I had an X running .621 and this method always worked perfect for me. Its sounds involved but is fairly easy! Good luck!

Stock cable tried both pc/charging modes, will try toggling debugging and report back.
{edit} still no go. No combo of settings change the result, just a blinking cursor after the daemon notification.
{edit 2} read on another form that someone else was having same issue. He changed USB ports and it worked, tried it and it worked for me as well. Not sure why, but it did. thnks for the help

USB ports that are split off the motherboard or ran through an extra connector aren't as "secure" or "powerful" of a connection. Best thought I've had on the subject is there may not be enough voltage or too many connections in between so it fails out. My monitor's USB ports' transfer rate is much lower than the ports in the back of my tower.
The Droid X is a great phone to learn about rooting and modding simply because it is almost impossible to brick the device. The reason for this and also to answer your question about the .621 is because after that update the bootloader was locked. Making kernel and modem options null.
As posted above by other members follow the step by step instructions in order to root the phone. You do have to burn a CD but it is very simple and very straight forward. To the best of my knowledge 1 click methods do not work and that is your only option. Don't be afraid, this is how you learn, this is exactly how I learned.
Once you have successfully rooted your device and you want to overclock it I would recommend Android overclock by J rummy. It was built specifically for devices with lock bootloaders, it has a great help section included and works flawlessly on the droid x.

Hi! I have Nexus 7 and I've used it for 4 months, it's on warranty. It started to lag couple of days and I rebooted it sometimes, but on the one reboot it didn't start Android and stucked on X logo, after another reboot it started a bootloop from X logo to Google logo on and on. After another reboot it stucks only on Google screen. I've tried to wipe data and cache partition, but it also stucks. I also tried Nexus 7 Toolkit, but it gets an error on unlock bootloader. I also tried to do it via Windows' cmd.exe with fastboot oem unlock, the same problem. I can't find any working method. Please, help.
You can use the toolkit to revert back to set stock rom. Download the stock .img from the toolkit and perform the flash. Make sure you boot to the bootloader to do this.
Entering the command fastboot oem unlock on a unlocked device will not do anything if the bootloader is already unlocked.

If I'm already unlocked (not rooted), what steps should I follow? I'm new to all this and, although I've rooted a phone once before, I barely remember what I did back then. I don't even know what you mean by "perform the flash." Can you provide some more specific directions? I have the toolkit downloaded. Thanks!

Ok - figuring this out slowly. Can someone tell me where in my folders I can find my bootloader file?

You can't find the bootloader file. It's embedded within the system. Unless you have the flashable zip then you can use that. Why do you need it anyways?

Hi mate*
Dunno if you got things sorted but I had the same problem last week. I'd let the unit run flat and stay flat for a coupla days and bootloop is the price I paid. So, I call Asus who inform me that it's under warranty and to send it in for repair. Fair dos to them that's good service but I don't wanna be without my Nexus for 2 weeks so I have another play with it having previously had no joy resetting it using power and vol up/down etc.*
I'd managed to get some charge into it by waiting for the bootloop to turn it on and then manually turning it off. Not sure how quickly yours restarts but I had lockscreen for 10 seconds or so before restarting the cycle. That said it wasn't long enough to reset to factory settings but it was long enough to turn off wifi. Dunno why I tried this, sheer desperation probably but after a restart with wifi off and a full battery I was able to access my stuff and back it up to pc.*
I then was able to perform a factory reset and set the device up again, including wifi and apps. Since then it's been good as gold (but I won't let it drop below 20% charge!) but as there's only 4 months of warranty left Asus are gonna let me send it in to have a new motherboard anyway - might as well as its been wiped anyhow. The last thing I want if for it to [email protected]#k up a week after the warranty's ran out.*
I hope this helps you or other searching for a fix bud, let us know *

I tries this but it doesnt seem to work for me, i had the same issue as you and now it seems as though it is bricked :/ i tried doing the steps you mentioned but it didnt work for me. i get to the home screen for about 10 secs till it restarts. i want to save my music/pictures and i dont know what to do (i never enabled developer options either) any ideas?
Hello, all. I am new and am here for one reason today.
Recently, my dad got a new phone and said that I could mess around with his old Droid 2. I decided to root and try and install CM9 on it to get Android 4. That failed, and I was stuck with a bricked phone.
Basically, I was able to successfully root it, but when it came to install CM and its package of Google apps, the phone would not boot past the "M" logo. Here is the site I used mainly to guide me... (website prevents me from posting this link but I will soon update)
Maybe this site is what led me wrong. The downloads of CM9, the Recovery Bootstrap thingy, and the Google apps came from separate sites each... I think maybe they may've been incompatible with each other.
I did what was logical. I removed the battery, tried to power it on again, maybe even somehow boot into ClockworkMod recovery and not have to start over. Sadly this did not work.
Then, I decided to do a bit of research... I then tried to wipe the phone and reboot. Fail.
I finally came across this video which I resorted to... (website prevents me from posting this link but I will soon update)
I would have to unbrick it... a long tedious process, then start from square one... with not guarantee that it'll even work again.
Through this video, I ran into my final problem... it seems my phone won't even load the Bootloader! Every single time I try, it says "Battery Low...Cannot program". It seems there may be a problem with the battery, SINCE I'VE BEEN CHARGING IT FOR 12 HOURS! My theory about this is that it is trying to load CM from my previous attempt, but drains so much battery trying to do so that the battery itself has very little charge. Another note: whenever I plug it in, the phone goes to the "M" logo and freezes. There's no way to completely turn off the thing, except to unplug it and take out the battery. So, I can't even get the bootloader to work in order to unbrick it! That's about as worse it can get.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My question to you guys is... what would you do in my place? I am still intent on getting CM on this device, but I can't even fix my current state!
1) how to fix my current problem?
2) experienced rooters and rom-flashers: how to get CM9 (Android 4) on this device without bricking it again?
--- Note that I am a noob and this is my first time doing such a thing. I need ALL details!
Thank you guys sooo much for your time!

Like I said, I know I can use RSD for a reset, but the thing is the bootloader won't work. The battery is bad, I think, so it ends up saying, "Battery low, Cannot program". Even if I plug it into the computer nothing happens.

Ok. I will see what I can do. I briefly went over that option in your list.. it seems risky. I am not a person that wants to mess with wires and risk explosions. If I buy another battery, will that do the trick? That'd be safer. I'd rather pay that risk that other stuff. Could you provide me a link to a good battery? I know it sounds dumb but I don't want to get the wrong model.
Thanks for all of your help. I think I'll use your guide to root and get CM9 on that phone.
When I do get the battery and am ready to root and flash, do you think you could chat here step by step with me? I don't want to mess this up again, and you seem like the experienced type of person. Online guides don't really have the best step by step guidance, and even videos sometimes don't do the trick. Though, if you are busy but happen to have a link to a good video, could you send it to me? Thanks!

Sorry if that was not clear, I haven't updated that for a while.
Low battery options There are 3 options the first is a warning and not recommended MacGyver Method, 2. is Factory Programming / Fastboot Cable, 3rd is a spare battery charger (with link), and 4th would be borrow a charged battery. A new battery may not be charged enough to flash.

I see, I see. So from what I see here, I should buy the Black Hat thing and the charger and try those options to reset my phone.
I have see a YouTube vid where a guy from RootJunky shows you how to do this, so I will be using that as a guide, unless you recommend another way.
Once I have reset my phone, could you help me root and get ICS on my Droid? I still am intent on getting Android 4 on this phone, now more out of trying to solve the mess I've gotten myself into that actually enjoying the final result. Not that I don't want ICS, but I want to learn how to do this the right way. If there is a good YouTube video about how to get CM9 on the Droid 2 or something similar, could you direct me there? Or, do you just recommend the guide you have?
Thanks again.

Ok. I have successfully rooted my device and have done a nandroid backup.
I am obviously moving on to actually getting a rom on my phone. Before I start, I have a few questions.
- Is there anything I need to do right now? My current state includes a root and a nandroid backup. What other tweaks do I need to make as of right now>?
- I cannot find a good link to CM9 for Droid 2. Either the site is a virus website or my computer thinks it is. Can you give me a direct link here? In addition, could you provide me with a link to a Gapps link as well? I saw a few links in the guide and heard from RootJunky that Gapps should be installed with any ICS build, but I can never find a page where both are listed and are confirmed to be compatible. Last time, I had gotten both from different sites, and I think they were not compatible.
So, here is what I have in mind. Correct me or add to me if I miss something.
1) download the CM9 build from some site onto PC
2) download the Gapps from some site onto PC
3) attach phone to PC and copy both to a folder on the storage
4) boot into ClockworkMod Recovery and wipe all data
5) in Clockwork also wipe the cache
6) in Clockwork there is some option to "install from SD card". Select that
7) find the CM9 and select that
8) after selecting CM9, also select the Gapps
9) let it run installation process and reboot.
NOTE: the above is almost exactly what I did last time, except I didn't wipe cache and I didn't do a nandroid backup
From the above, do you think I will be successful?

Thank you so much! Is there some "like" button I can click to thank you? I was really happy when someone came to my rescue because I thought no one would have any info on an old phone like this one!
Thanks a ton! I hope this thread might help others as well, but if it needs to be deleted that will be okay, too.
Hi, guys.
Today, my OP5 decided to troll me. I was using normally him, when suddenly it started to lags pretty bad. I restarted and he continued to lags and freeze. I made a wipe cache via stock recovery (i didnt made any change at all in it, no unlocked bootloader, no root). That's when my nightmare begins. It begins to bootloop. Sometimes i was able to start the boot animation, but then it just restarts to the beginning. I tried a lot of tips, wiping cache, system, etc. Then, i left it charging. When i tried to turn on again, it worked like nothing ever happened to him. I made a backup of my personal data fast, scared to him suddenly restart again. After that, i decided to made a Factory Reset, clean up everything. When i did it, he started the lag and freezes again. I was at lost. That's was when i decided to use the official unbrick tool, to make the cleanest OP5 ever possible. I grabbed the archives from this link and followed this tutorial. When i was executing the programa, in the userdate.img, he showed a error. When i saw it, i just stopped and closed the program. Now, my OP5 is hardbricked. The only sign of life that i get from him is when i connect him at the PC. I can identify it as qualcoom 9008, but when i try to run the program, he just fail and show me error 258.
Plz, i need some orientations. I have been read things for about 10 hours and didnt found a solution. I live abroad for any oneplus tech center, and i believe, for the other posts that i read, that online tech support wouldn't help me a lot. I really don't like to make this kind of post but i am kind of desesperate. I dont have money to afford another phone
Again, sry to disturb you all. Sry if i broke some rule of the forum too. And sry for my bad english, i hope that i was able to communicate right.
EDIT: I just tried in another computer. Same error appears. :'(
Hummm why follow a Unbrick Topic with tools for ...3T ?
Maybe you have a encryption problem, all your Tools/Topic are so old for the actual versions (Oreo 8.X OOS / 8.1 OOS)
I advise to you (in the first time), to flash this TWRP (using fastboot, very simple) just follow this guide : here
If you can flash TWRP, your phone is not bricked, you will boot in TWRP:
- Format Data > tape "yes" > Reboot in TWRP
- Copy/Past xXx 10.0 ROM to test, install and xXx Rom will fix/install for you the best OOS Custom ROM for your OP5 with a great Aroma Installer.
If TWRP with this rom work perfectly, you wil able to restore a official stock OOS for sure, just flash original/stock recovery (fastboot), wipe all data/partitions, install your OOS rom and it's fine
I think @cidsantiago says they bootloader isn't unlocked.
He needs to know that unlock the bootloader implies lost all /sdcard data and also installed apps and settings) before start the TWRP install process...

EDIT: Just tried this. My cellphone cant be recognized in fastboot devices. As a said, i am not getting any response for him, just when i plug it in the PC. So i wasn't able to unlock bootload or anything like that. I tried just to plug it and see if fastboot was able to identifying it, but it wasn't.

I think @cidsantiago says they bootloader isn't unlocked.
He needs to know that unlock the bootloader implies lost all /sdcard data and also installed apps and settings) before start the TWRP install process...

Wipe your device data from the stock recovery.
You loss the settings and downloaded apps but not requires to unlock the bootloader.

I can't access recovery anymore, as i said. The only sign of life that i get is when i connect it in the PC.
I guess i have to do something to restore the basics partitions of my cellphone. Like recovery, boot, etc. But i just have the official tool to do that. There is another way? Like transfering directly by the COM port?
Have you tried following this guide? https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/guide-unbrick-guide-hard-bricked-t3761706

I had the same exact problem with my old One plus One. Spent like 4 days trying to unbrick it. That msm tool did the fix for me. Also, in that link to the guide you provided, doesn't it flash the Chinese version of the OS? If that's the case, I don't think it was a good idea to do so lol

In one of the links, it had the OOS and the HOS. I tried to use the msm tool in one of them, but it didnt worked I'm gonna try the archives in this link that you gave me. It may work brb with updates.
Don't worry though, it happens to plenty of people. It happened to me as well, and everyone eventually fixes it. It is unlikely that it is a hardware problem, so just following the correct steps should get it working. Keep trying stuff out, it's very good that your computer recognizes it as a qualcomm port, as far as I know that's all you need to flash the necessary things in order for it to boot.
I am getting the same error 258 in this post. :T I posted there to see if the OP can help me. But thx for your help @Mash1ro

2 of the people had the same error as you, and one of them solved the issue by changing the USB port.

But don't use the same files and all that stuff, since that's for the 3T. Try to pick out the things that might help but use the files for the OnePlus 5 only
After try the unbrick procedure in 3 different PCs, using about 10 different USB ports, i still getting the same error in the same step. When downloading cache.img, he stuck in about mid bar, and shows me the warning: SendProgramCommand Failed, Error: 258". Besides that, he turns on the green led and stop being recognize by the PC. Then i have to hold power and turn off the green led. :T Maybe i can use a linux to access the partitions?

yeah... But it is kind of weird. He was running smoothly, until suddenly started lag and freeze. He didn't fall or any of that... I think is just a defective phone. Doesn't find another explanation to that.
I think your best option is to RMA the device through OnePlus. Since you haven't rooted it or anything, they should repair it for you.

Hi all,
I'm facing a really strange & annoying issue ... I'm running latest OOS version, unlocked bootloader, TWRP installed, root via Magisk. & substraturm theming.
I uninstalled all my overlays, rebooted my phone and boom, here the deal : my phone won't boot at all.
I tried to press the power button for something like 30sec, nothing, not even a vibration.
I tried to reboot in recovery/fastboot via the volume keys + power button, nothing happens.
I tried to charge the phone, maybe I was running out of battery..? Nevertheless, nothing happens ...
I tried to reboot into recovery via `fastboot boot twrp-xxx.img`, but fastboot can't detect my phone as it stay totally powered off....
Anyone get a idea about the how to fix it & how it happend ? It's really annoying as I'm in travel and I don't get any extra phone ...
Thanks all
edit: Ho yeah, I'm running linux & I don't have access to any windows computer

You don't want a custom ROM. Fingerprint sensor doesn't work under custom ROMs at the moment.
Also trying to charge with the phone off with Magisk installed will give the perception of a brick.
You will need to jump through hoop to get the device to boot again.
Don't ever try to charge with the phone off with Magisk.

What are you talking about. I charge all the time with my device powered off and I always have magisk installed and never got the perception of a brick like you describe it. And custom rom are all extremely stable for this device fp is the only issue and it's got work being done and its already working on custom in the test groups on telegram. And they is always face unlock which is better than fp anyways.

With Magisk charging with power off will cause the phone to stop at the "you phone corrupt" screen.

LMAO no it won't. Like I said earlier I do this all time with no issues. You have something weird going on with your device.

Actually not. With the latest, I guess one or two releases of Magisk this is now fixed. Magisk forces something other than a normal boot from a patched image. My Essential had the charging while off for a year and this phone up until I installed the latest release.
So you are correct current version of Magisk does not cause the issue.
Another thing which is strange.
Since that bug yesterday I can't connect my phone to the computer to browse the internal DD.
Instead my file explorer (on the computer) display me a unknown dir in which I've got some sh script & window exe (I think they're there to install the op drivers).
No one get a idea of the why & how to fix it to go back to the OG behavior ?

That's odd.... It sounds like a driver issue with your computer more than anything. BUT, do you get an option to change to file transfer mode from your pull down menu? I had an issue where it wouldn't even give me that option, and what actually worked for me was to plug my 6T into a USB 2.0 port on the BACK of my computer. Try these things out.

Also, about the magisk charging thing? I've never tried to charge my phone while it was off with magisk installed, but that just sounds...... Weird!

Yes I get the option to change to file transfer mode. My computer only got USB 3.0 port, I'll try to connect it to a 2.0 when I'm back from my trip. Thx for the tips
@loganville did you try the 2.0 trick ?

Odd. Yeah these newer Android devices are just weird like that! I've been told the Pixel devices are just as finicky as the 6T and I'm sure others out there are as well! Glad you're able to get a connection on Windows though! [emoji106]
After 2 month or so I think I found the reason of the bug : tremble !
The bug occured since I did the last oxygenos update (at the time) - maybe it came from the fact that the update was installed on the second partition !
I gonna try to make the new oxygenos update (which will be installed on the first partition) to ensure that. I'll come back here once it's done !
It was that ! After a update to the last OOS (which was installed on partition A) I can finally access my internal storage from a usb 3 on linux
