Hi all,
I usually move to new version as soon as i can, waiting like a child to play with new features.
For once, i do not see really the point of moving from 9 to 10. Some roms for our lovely device seems pretty good and stable, as always made by our beloved devs with love and passion... but i still don't see the pros to upgrade.
Can you make me change my mind ?
Android 10 is the best thing happened to android eco system. Smooth and stable than any other android version available. It is gonna be a game changer when we have it for RN7 with MIUI. For now, I recommend everyone to try PE 10 Beta.
The roms with android 10 have not the customizations I need (ex. smartbar) therefore, for now, I stay without any problem on my pie superioros. Actually android 10 doesn't seem a big revolution, so I can wait.
Pixel Experience android 10 is smooth and nice.
Sadly I think google is falling behind in innovation. There really is no new features that make it any better than android 9.
I installed MIUI 11 (xiaomi.eu) and was surprised at how much better it is than googles stock android.
Can't wait for a new type of OS for our phones that is not using google, i think everyone is bored of google products and living in the past.
Very differents point of view regarding Android, stock and google : very interisting to read this.
Thanks for your replies guys ! Hope we'll have more.

Hey guys!
I got an email today that firefox os has been released. It looks pretty amazing, but is it worth porting it to our device?
If it is worth porting, then anyone up for doing this job? anyone interested in doing this job?
I am not a developer myself, so I can't really port. That's why I am asking.
Or are we just going to keep our phones with android and try upgrading to the latest android?
I want your Opinions guys.
Thanks.
I'm all for choice and options. But from what I've seen, Firefox OS as a long way to go, it looks like android 2.1 right now.
Sent from my Huawei U8800
I would definitely use it over Android if our phone had a stable OS.
Then again, I would use literally anything over Android.

This is a newly created OS, totally different UI and User experience and honestly don't think that come to the market looking and acting worst than a very old Android version (direct competitor) would be a clever attitude. If is its a shoot own its own feet and I think they have people with brains to know this quite well.
Firefox is Firefox and a new start fpor a company such as this should be, at least, at same level or better than their direct competition. Not worst!
Hey all,
This is my first post in quite a while on XDA, since I was basically forced to move to IOS (my Ascend Mate 7 was stolen a few months ago ).
I really, really miss Android, and wish to return to the ecosystem that I love most by buying a "cheap and cheerful" Android device out of contract. Xiaomi devices have started popping up in my local stores, thus I was wondering if you guys can offer any insight on whether moving to the Redmi 2 would garner a satisfactory experience (coming from an iPhone 5s)? I wouldn't label myself as a power user anymore, though I am a huge fan of tweaking and ricing my phones, thus I do not need a octa-core gazillion GB RAM powerhouse (yet). Just enough to do all the usual phone stuff and perhaps play Downwell / Pocket Morties every once in a while. Does the Redmi stand up to these needs?
Also if I do pick one up I will absolutely stick a Cyanogenmod (or equivalent) ROM on the phone, thus can anyone comment on performance gain / loss after flashing a custom ROM? Are there any ROM suggestions for daily use (I probably won't flash a different ROM every week, but rather settle on the most stable and closest-to-stock ROM I can find)?
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers! :good:
I think Redmi 2 Pro/Prime is still worth it, but not sure about 2/2A. Even miui 8 for redmi 2 is based on kitkat while pro/prime seems to be based on lollipop. Features like second space and other new things that miui 8 brings are absent from kitkat version.
Now, CM13 is getting pretty stable, and premaca and nick are working on Nougat and CM14, and not only this, it boots. Thee are not a lot of phones running Nougatand Redmi 2 is one of those few add to this the price and could sound ad a no-brainer.
Hi,
I was wondering if Android 10 based ROMs from maybe our favourite devs, say the unofficial Lineage OS 17, RR8 etc would be available and developed upon in the future.
I know the phone is getting old, and many people might have jumped ship towards newer ones, so are some of the devs still rocking the V20, or at least interested in developing for it.
It's hard to get a unified voice to predict, but in case someone knows some of the devs, it'd be nice to hear from them about this.
The biggest problem with those roms will be the lack of volte and wifi calling, those things are already a necessity to me.
I just bought my mint v20 tmobile version and frankly I am stunned by the lack of devlopment for this phone! For what many deem the last of the great flagship phone ever made ...it is stunning. I am comong from a leeco lemax 2 which has an extremely active development forum, I was so hoping to be able to install the latest greatest android and pixel OS ...but it is like a freaking ghost town. I know I would donate for a good OS on the latest android. Sad.
Alpha Omega might work on one, and it would be great. He might be our only hope.
Even without voLTE or WiFi calling, it'd be awesome to see some or even one Android Q ROM!
Personally I'd love a Paranoid Android ROM now they're back
Hi.
I picked up a 6p for £30. It needs new volume buttons so I may as well change the battery while I'm fixing the buttons.
I'm back into flashing again after a period with Huawei phones.
Is development pretty good on this device? Can you recommend any ROMs that are super stable and have GPS?
Cheers.
problems...
some of the best roms are, AICP (weekly releases, full functions) and personally I like Resurrection Remix 7.2 both are Android 9 based and can't go wrong with em imo. These come highly customizable out of the box if that's your thing, or if your more into the stock-like "pixel experience" there is Pixel Experience rom with versions based on either Android 10 or 9.
What are the problems?
I've been using the Nexus 6P since January 2016, and now it is a secondary phone for me. I love flashing ROMs and that's how I use this phone now. You shall try the Pixel experience ROM based on Android 10- https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/development/rom-pixel-experience-t3970525, I haven't been able to register fingerprints/ nexus imprint in this ROM rest is working just fine.
Now, coming to what you should expect, in phrase- 'A lot of lag and nostalgia'. The device is very slow when compared to present generation flagship devices, and it will be evident everywhere, no matter what you're using this devices for the Snapdragon 810 won't let you do it not without a few hiccups here and there. As much as I hate the sluggish performance of this device there is a lot of nostalgia associated with this device and the amount of support this device is getting is simply amazing for which almost every bit of credit goes to the XDA developers community.
So, you're welcome have fun flashing/ or doing whatever you choose to do with your device. ✌

I disagree with you.
The 6P can without difficulties keep up with devices that have been manufactured recent.
A comparison with a OnePlus 7 or the Google Pixel 4 is relatively pointless with a view of the technological achievements in this time.
The well-known hardware issues do not apply to every device, btw.
If you look up the price for an angler or the shamu for example, with regard to the specs is the performance definitely more than legitimate in 2020.
I paid for the angler 90 Euro in tip-top condition. The shamu cost roughly the same.
Compare those with newer devices and you have to remember which possibilities come within.
In regard to dozens of restrictions which have been implemented.Xiaomi, Huawei, Samsung and surely others are a pain², mate.
The Nexus series has of all other brands/devices the most loyal and foremost diverse selection of customized roms, kernel, not to forget the variety of applicable options.
There are not many other phones with 4yrs mileage and those possibilities.
I could write much more about this topic, but everyone who is a long time Nexus user with the according interest in customization is usually well informed about this subject.
Beside the awful manta is the Nexus series still a very good choice. If you are in our scene you have to look up the specs, make yourself a picture beforehand. So the problems shouldn't be not surprising for someone who is informed.
The Nexus 5 cost used even today at least ~110 Euro. This is a good example for their value;not only for nostalgiac causes, but for a reliable device with limited specs..The release of the hammerhead was 2012, you know.Nexus 7 is or was the most ever sold tablet.
Perhaps the child manufactured iPads have reached those numbers yet, but iOS is with Microsofts attempt to break into the smartphone market, the worst OS resp piece of hardware I have witnessed, therefore are these attempts, at least for me, not of relevance.

I forgot to response yesterday..
The development is still ongoing, but personally wouldn't I recommend any kind of FBE/FDE based roms(mostly Android 9 and 10).
I use the device at the time with Aosip 8.1, which is very stable and quite good developed.
I would also recommend that you try a rom without any custom kernel for the first time(s)..
I have not best experiences with either of them.
At last would I highly recommend the Nougat roms like Uber, PureNexus..those are without doubt the most reliable.
I hope you have fun with the device.
To your question regarding GPS reliability, would I look into the Magisk repository.
They have a great module for maximizing the signal and receiver accuracy.

Thanks for the reply.
For the moment I have settled on stock 8.1 rooted. I am not sure how to flash some of the newer ROM's using FBE/FDE. Plus the newer ROM's seen to have quite a few issues regarding finger print etc.
I'll wait a while and then see how these ROM's are progressing.

Alright.
Just beware of these awful bash/.bat scripts by Google for the fastboot installation.
I don't know which distribution you use..in any case should you avoid the fastboot/adb package in Debian's distro, they contain some bugs.
If you use Linux(Ubuntu, Mint, Debian..), dkwnload the sdk package(solely the fastboot part!) and set the path by hand.
If you need any advice I am happy to help out when there is an issue.
Here you will find the GPS - Magisk module, which I mentioned earlier, btw - >

PS
I don't want to diminish the work of the remaining developer here and am quite interested, but this device was not made for Pie, let alone Q.
Stick with the factory rom, altough it's very bloated.
PureNexus is the thinner brother of stock..but it is best as inform yourself far as possible and decide what you want.
I have seen that many phones like the galaxy S3 still have support with the new roms and have even reached android 12. I would like to see android 9/10/11/12 on this tablet, I don't care about lag, I don't care about bugs , is there anyone who tried to build a rom? I would be very interested.

Mighty is one who did successfully build android 8.1 for it. You could ask him about building android ROMS for it
Busy with irl things nowadays, it might take sometime for the new roms, afaik we can go till android 11 relatively easily, 12 needs major kernel updates for internet(wlan)
