Phone keeps rebooting into recovery - Redmi K20 / Xiaomi Mi 9T Questions & Answers

I wanted to install the Xiaomi.eu rom this evening but instead I think I soft bricked my phone as it keeps booting into recovery.
I was on version 10.3.11 - not sure if this is a global or EEA rom?
Unlocking went without hickups
I've tried Miflashtool but not much luck with it using this file: davinci_global_images_V10.3.11.0.PFJMIXM_20190802.0000.00_9.0_global_ea6683ef55.tgz
Anyone able to tell me how to fix it?

While in recovery earlier I was unable to a backup, I was getting a error that it couldn't create a folder. I also couldn't copy any files to the phone.
It boot up once earlier but I couldn't enter my account password because it woudln't enable wifi. For what ever reason I just noticed after many boots in/out of twrp that it create a twrp folder and I've just been able to make a backup of the phone.
I can copy files to the phone, hopefully I can flash the original rom or xiaomi.eu rom now
---edit---
Flashed the Xiaomi.eu rom and it's just showing the redmi splash screen and eventually boots into a Chinese twrp.
Any way back to what I originally had?

because you can boot into twrp, i think you could try formatting your data to boot into xiaomi.eu, or if everything goes bad you could use miflashtool to flash a fastboot rom back to global

I should have updated last night but it was very late and I was wrecked.
I eventually got the stock ROM back on, miflash was giving me errors about roll back and some others that wouldn't allow it to install.
I don't exactly remember what I did but it took many attempts and different twrp to eventually hey back to stock. At one point out was loading fine but WiFi wouldn't stay toggled on
All good now though, not flashing any other ROM until the pixel experience one goes official! What a night mare I had yesterday!

Nexus 6p with Android 7.0 in bootloop cannot access recovery

Hi Guys,
I'm Kinda new about making a new thread, so if anything's wrong let me know.
Just last evening my nexus 6p (on Android 7.0 official) got into a boot loop from a normal state. It just boots & right after when the white google logo transforms into 4 round object, it just reboots (it takes about 3-5 secs). I can access the boot loader but was unable to access to recovery from there as that takes it to bootloop again. I've tried flashing it, but since i had already updated to Nougat official version & the official image for 6p is yet to come, i tried with some earlier version of Marshmallow. but that failed as well. can it be that i need to select the right version of factory image as i really do not remember my old marshmallow versions anymore.
It seems i'm out of options right now. :crying:
Any advice guys??
TIA
Found this on Nexus 6p help forum. Haven't tried it though so I'm unable to confirm if it works or not.

@sirluigi, this EXACT thing just happened to me ..
stock nougat, only bootloader unlocked ((( and since I've got no access to recovery and no Nougat image, I don't know what to do next
minicoop7, unfortunately, for that guide I need to go into recovery mode

Have you tried using fastboot to temp boot to recovery?
fastboot boot twrp-3.0.2-1-angler.img
downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 0.409s]
booting...
OKAY [ 0.680s]
finished. total time: 1.097s

same behavior, nothing but a bootloop
I'm dowloading an official MM image, just to get the stock recovery and see if I can temp boot in it
edit: not possible, I even tried to flash twrp, I tried flashing stock recovery from MTC20F.. tried to temp boot in both, all with no luck and with phone constantly alternating between the "Your device cannot be checked for corruption" screen and the white Google screen with the open lock.

Guys its very simple, flash the stock mtc20f image first. After that boot it, it wont work but don't worry. Onece it bootloops go into bootloader and fastboot flash twrp 3.0.2-0. once thats done boot into twrp recovery. Onece in twrp make a backup of the image you just flashed that don't work. Once thats done mount system in recovery. Once mounted plug phone into computer and open the twrp folder you will see on your internal wich will have the backup that you just made. Transfer an old working backup into that folder that way twrp will recognize that backup. Once the backup is in the folder you shoukd see 2 backups in there, your new one that doesn't boot and your old one that does work wich you just put into the twrp folder. Once done go to restore and restore the backup of the working rom you just put in there, make sure to check off all on restore. Once done reboot system and it should boot. This will only work if you have a backup of an old working rom.

OMG I finally got mine to work
I'll note down the exact steps , most of which may or may not be relevant
1) Flashed MTC20F using TWRP 3.0.2-1
2) Booted into recovery and wiped everything and the partitions
- Add - Booted back into twrp 3.0.2-1 and then swiped to allow modifications
3) Then fastboot flashed TWRP 3.0.2-0
4) Restored my backup ( except recovery)
5) Still got stuck in the google screen.
Now the next parts are a bit weird
6) Booted into TWRP, flashed vendor.img from pure nexus rom
7) wiped everything except internal storage
8) Flashed vendor.img, pure nexus rom and gapps and then flashed vendor.img again
9) Rebooted and it worked
Let me know if it worked for you guys or if you need any more help

Unfortunately, this didn't work for me.
I believe you should be fine with just trying to flash an earlier recovery version using fastboot... if you're trying to save your data and then factory flash MM and then restore your data to the phone, you should be able to use fastboot pull and then copy them back once you've got a working device by simple copy from windows.

Can you elaborate the steps pls? also have you had an earlier back up of your phone which i don't have?
Has anyone been able to get this to work without being able to get into TWRP? I can't get into recovery whether it is a temp boot to it, or fastboot flash either version..
I have compiled a list of the 20+ methods from various users in THIS thread. It's the second post.
Stuck in a bootloop still @tr4nqui1i7y but will try your methods as well... Fingers crossed..
So I do not if this may help anyone who as run into this issue but still may want to retrieve their data before formating their data or factory resetting. While running TWRP 3.0.3 and flashing the latest 7.1.1 files for angler. I would sometimes be able to boot into the recovery like 3/10 tries ( from the bootloader menu). My data was encrypted and it woul freeze constantly when trying to decrypt soo i decided once I finally got it to boot again in the recovery menu(TWRP after hours mind you) I let the phone stay idle for a few mins should the cpu would cool down that my battery percentage would drop around 41% and the tried to decrypt data which went tru successfully. I retrieve what I Could and it froze during a process of a nandroid backup and started bootlooping again. I believe the battery percentage may be linked to the early shutdown issues that many user were reported having and the bootloop of death we are experiencing. Hopefully this info may help someone else.

Stuck in bootloop in all LOS and OOS based roms

Hi guys, been using my rooted but otherwise stock OOS rom with TWRP and Magisk for the past few weeks. Today I decided to take the plunge and try either the Lineage OS or Resurrection Remix roms.
I'm using the latest OFFICIAL TWRP.
So I decrypted following the instructions to flash "no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1.zip", then format data. All went well, so I then sent over the ROMS I wanted to try out. I started with the official ResurrectionRemix. Bootloop. Then the unofficial LineageOS. Bootloop.
Ok, well I guess I'm not gonna get to use any of the cool new OS's for awhile. I'll install the full stock firmware zip so I can have a working phone again. Bootloop.
Now when I say bootloop, the phone is booting to the BootAnimation and just repeating it. It shows the proper boot animation for whatever zip I have installed (resurrection/LOS/OOS), but it stays on there for up to 20 minutes before I have to hard reboot to the recovery again.
I decided to install the stock recovery trying a few methods. I first tried the ALL-IN-ONE tool. It said it flashed the recovery fine, so I booted to the recovery and after staying on a black screen for too long, the language options came up and I sighed a breath of relief. But before I could select English with the volume buttons, it rebooted by itself. It did this again when I manually entered recovery. So I figured maybe the tool flashed the wrong version, so I googled stock recovery for OnePlus 5, I found a few random links for stock recoveries for the OP5 and flashed them, but they more or less do the same thing or not boot at all.
I've tried changing the filesystem for both Data and System using any combinations of EXT4 and F2FS. Everything results in boot animation bootloops.
I have been flashing Roms since the Samsung Galaxy S3 and every phone since and never had any problems.
Currently when trying to install the stock Full OOS official zip with TWRP, the phone won't even go to the boot animation, it only goes to a black screen with the top LED in a light blue color.
I have also tried every version of TWRP there is for the OnePlus 5. Unofficial, Official, 3.1.1-0 and 3.1.1-1.
So I guess my question is....What filesystem is each partition supposed to be on and for which OS?
Lineage based:
System: ?
Data: ?
OOS Based:
System: ?
Data: ?
And any ideas on getting my phone running again?
And anyone have an official confirmed working version of the stock recovery? The one from ALL-IN-ONE TOOL doesn't work for me. It loads the language selection, then the screen goes black with a light blue LED on the top of the phone.
Actually I'm getting that on some roms instead of the bootanimation, like FreedomOOS. What does it mean when you have a black screen and a white LED?
Man, I really thought I was getting somewhere. If I boot into TWRP, change the Data partition to "F2FS", then flash the stock recovery, the stock recovery will boot, however, when inside the stock recovery and I try to flash the stock zip, it says "Flashing, don't turn off your device" for about 5 seconds and then goes back to the list of roms on the SD card, not having flashed anything at all.
Ok, I have the official stock recovery from the OnePlus site, but still can't use it. Here is was happens depending on how I left it with TWRP:
System: F2FS
DATA: F2FS
- Stock recovery will load after some time, freeze, then the screen goes black with white LED on top.
System: EXT4
DATA: F2FS
- Stock recovery loads fine, I can go through the settings and install from SD card, but when I do it says "Flashing, don't turn off your device" for about 5 seconds and then goes back to the list of roms on the SD card, not having flashed anything at all.
System: EXT4
DATA: F2FS
- If I try to flash stock rom through TWRP, it just boot loops on the animation forever.
I have now also tried flashing the stock boot.img, but no difference.
I have 2 things you can try!
First, replace the bootloader with stock and do a factory reset:
1. flash the stock recovery over
2. then in fastboot mode enter, fastboot oem lock (This forces the phone to wipe cache and data, and also do a complete reset)
Did it work? if yes YAY if not go to Second!
Second if your system.img is ****ed up you have to replace it!
Download the newest version of the stock rom from oneplus link here
Unpack it
research how to use an extractor to convert the system.new.dat to system.img
once thats completed enter fastboot mode and flash the new system.img over with Fastboot flash system system.img
now go into recovery and do a factory reset and wipe cache, and dalvik
Please reply back wether or not this work
"Ihave 2 things you can try! First, replace the bootloader with stock and do a factory reset..."
Is the bootloader simply the boot.img?
After doing the first thing, it simply says that the device is corrupt and will not boot. But it is locked again.
But I will have to unlock it again to do any further flashing.
Hmm, I think I may have gotten it. After unlocking again, flashing the stock recovery and boot.img, then locking again and wiping in the stock recovery, I have finally booted into the stock rom.
I still have no idea what went wrong, and I really want to know, so that in the future I can flash other Roms, like LineageOS.
I mean, I followed the steps exactly.
If it says the device is corrupt it simply means you got something else besides stock rom.
So now unlock it and try the system.img instead
It was because I still had TWRP with the stock rom.
I got it working though, thanks for your help.
Do you have any idea on what might have went wrong when trying to flash the lineageOS based roms and why it got messed up so royally?
Great to hear you fixed it ^_^
Probably some minor bug, if you wanna try installing lineageos again use the 3.1.1 TWRP build that supports backups and do a full backup so you don't have to go thru all this again
---------- Post added at 12:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:13 AM ----------
Not really just try again but remember to use TWRP 3.1.1, as 3.1.0 don't support backup and probably have been part of your problem
If your trying again and gets it successfully installed could you do me a favor and test if Drivedroid works on it? And pm me the result, I'm looking for a rom where Drivedroid will work... Haven't found one so far
You know, I did do a backup with the OFFICIAL TWRP, but it also resulted in a bootloop. I made the backup after decrypting, so I don't know why it bootlopped.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/development/rom-unified-lineageos-7-1-2-t3635483
Is this the one you tried installing?
I tried like every ROM at one point yesterday, but I think I started with
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/development/rom-resurrection-remix-n-7-1-2-t3636578
Did you remember Gapps?
Also in some cases its better not to root before you have the custom rom running, you usually only need a custom bootloader like TWRP
Yeah, I tried with Gapps, and I never rooted before first trying to boot.
As of yesterday Ressurrection remix, released the first official stable build so try again your should'nt have any problems if you follow the guide 100%
Ever find a solution? I'm stuck here now. Can't get any ROM to boot up, they all get stuck on the boot animation
Bump. I am also stuck in this state

Oneplus2 Stuck on Animation

I have a US Oneplus2 that is stuck on the animation when it boots. I can get into TWRP and Fastboot, latest TWRP works and can also use an older version that I had.
I made a TWRP backup that I pulled off onto another computer. I then installed OOS 3.5.1 (I think) to do some testing. Once I was done testing, I decided I wanted the latest lineage as my backup was a 6 month old version of the latest at that time. I used TWRP to wipe the data, cache, and system to then install the latest Lineage 14.1 11/24/17 and gapps mini and micro (tested both). It gets to the lineage boot animation and the ball goes back and forth forever. I have left it over night and it's still going. I have rebooted the device, installed lineage several times, moved to 12/1/17 today with the same results.
After messing with it for hours and days, I decided to just put the TWRP backup back on the phone and then update from there. Well... my custom animation is load but the animation is also going forever.
Looking for some help on what might be wrong with the phone, thanks.
Make sure everything is formatted as ext4 and update firmware to 3.6.1 just to rule it out.
I would use the latest twrp.
I go to format tick all the boxes and clear everything then go to reboot > recovery. Once back in twrp copy the ROM and gapps across from pc install ROM and gapps together, wipe cache and dalvik reboot.
I'm in the process of doing that now.
The TWRP that I'm using is 3.1.1-0 which looks to be the latest. I am working with OOS 3.5.8 but will look at downloading 3.6.1. I am working to get Lineage 14.1 on there once everything is stable.
I ran into another weird is when using the qualcomm recovery tool:
My method is to enable ADB, enable OEM Unlock, enable Advanced Reboot.
Reboot into fastboot
Fastboot oem unlock: is successful
Fastboot reboot
I then go through renabling ADB and Advanced Reboot, OEM Unlock is still enabled.
I then reboot into fastboot
Fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1-0-oneplus2.img
This completes successfully and then I fastboot reboot.
I have tried several times to get into TWRP but I keep getting the stock recovery.
I have tried to reflash recovery but nothing ever changes.
Is there possibly something wrong with the OEM unlock that says it was successful?
How do I go about troubleshooting this?
Ok, I fixed that and install OOS 3.6.1 and then was able to install TWRP 3.1.1-0.
I then wanted to install Lineage 14.1:
I then formatted Cache, System, Data, Dalvik... everything but internal. Should I wipe internal as well?
I copied over linage 14.1 and open_gapps for the same build micro.
I now am back to getting the Lineage Boot animation.
Thanks for helping since I'm trying to get Lineage to boot.

Internal doesn't really matter to be honest, did you check they data and system are formatted as ext4.
It is in twrp advanced wipe options.
Did it ever boot ?
I did doubt check the data and system are formatted as ext4.
I let it sit for 3-4 hours and didn't see any progress.
Try a different rom. There are a lot of lineage based roms around.
I tried that and am getting the same results. Even if I flash a full TWRP backup from a time when I had it known to be working it happens.
I've tested this with 3 different roms now. My latest attempt has been to update TWRP to 3.2.1 and then install lineage 14.1 20171208. I also tested with Paranoid and Carbon because they were near the top of my list not because I know anything about them.
The phone just never gets past the boot animation. If I reboot to recovery is there a log I can pull to see what the issue is?
Thanks
Would like to see if anyone has any thoughts. If I run OOS I can use the phone but as of right now I can't use any other rom.
Is there any advanced fastboot or wipes that can be done to get it to boot. Is there any type of debugging that will show me what's happening when it tries to boot.
Just trying to bump this, I really need a way to debug this problem. Besides running OOS, I have a feeling this device is bricked and the mega unbrick guide doesn't work.
Also looks like if I try to put Kali on top of the base 3.5.8, the phone goes into the animation loop. So any change after OOS on the device puts it into an animation loop.
Is there a way the system or boot locked? Even thought I can TWRP anything onto the phone without errors.
Hey!
I've got the same issue it seems, phone just sticks to boot animation when flashing any other ROM than OOS 3.6.1.
Any update?
EDIT :
problem was with the persist.img
Flashed a different firm file and it was resolved

OOS does not refuse to boot if a mountable partition is corrupt. This is not the case with lineage. If a mountable partition is corrupt and the corresponding fstab entry does not allow lineage to format and somehow mount it then init never proceeds
Try flashing this file: https://glassrom.botstack.host/firmware/oos-3.6.1-firmware-signed.zip and try again
Note that this file reboots the device after the flash is done so don't use twrp queue to flash this file. Flash this file last
---------- Post added at 17:45 ---------- Previous post was at 17:34 ----------
Alternatively this is a method I don't recommend to beginners because they accidentally give twrp logs to devs without realising it
You can get logs by making the forcing the device to "crash" through the power button
Here's how it's done: you boot the non-booting ROM and wait for about a minute. Then press power + volume down while it's on the bootanimation. You have to hold it until you see the oneplus logo and boot to twrp
TWRP's kernel will recover the last booted kernel's log from ram and place it in /sys/fs/pstore
First you have to open the log yourself to check if it's valid. The file is console-ramoops-0. All other log files in that location are invalid for your specific issue
Now for an ordinary user this is hard. They can't tell if the log is a recovery log or a ROM log. Since we're dealing with official lineageos we assume selinux would be enforcing
You want to search for this string "permissive=1". On Linux just do cat console-ramoops-0 | grep "audit" (quotes are part of the command)
If you're on windows then you can download Linux and get the logs. Stop bothering me
If you see the string "permissive=1" in the log you have accidentally fetched a recovery log
Go back and boot again and wait for about a minute if selinux is permissive
The string should read
"permissive=0"
That means selinux is enforcing and this is indeed a ROM log

Hello,
Was this problem ever solved? I am experiencing the very same thing with every single ROM i have tried so far. TWRP is installed, I can install all ROMS but when I try to boot the phone, it just won't get passed the booting animation.
Thank you

Xiaomi Mi A1 Bricked, inifnite loop, I really don't know what's happening :( HELP

Hi, I have owned my Xiaomi Mi A1 like 5 days ago, and after a day I had it in my hands I rooted the device with Magisk 14.1 in TWRP, well, after I day I rooted the phone the update of oreo just realesed and my cellphone was avalible to install it, so I decided to unroot my phone, and there is where the ALL the problem started... Seems like when I flashed Magisk it didin't make a backup of the original boot.img so when I flashed the magisk uninstaller it didn't boot into the phone, it sent me to recovery again, so I tried installing the Magisk installer again and it let me boot.
After watching that I tried to flash the latest ROM in MiFlash but it just didn't do nothing, it flashed in 1 second and nothing happened to the phone.
Yesterday after all of that happened I tried to update the phone manually while rooted with TWRP, I found a backup of oreo of TWRP, so I restored that backup in TWRP and it booted me to oreo finally, after booting it to oreo I decided to go back to TWRP to restore my data backup of Nougat to restore all my apps and that stuff but when I booted into recovery it asked for decrypt my storage (as always), so I tried to decrypt it with the pattern I always used before and it just didn't let me, it just failed I don't know why, I booted into the system again trying to remove that stuff but it just didn't let me, the button to remove it was unavalible, it just let me remove my pattern to unlock the phone, so I removed it to see if it would work and it just make the things worse, I booted into recovery again and it didn't let me again, so I tried to boot into system AGAIN and it just didn't let me, just infinite loop, and recovery just removed, so I booted into recovery with fastboot mode and it didn't ask me for any decryption, it just let me in, but without mounting my internal storage, it just didn't, I tried to wipe the data option and after that it worked again, internal storage appeared again, after it I flashed the recovery into both slots.
Well, the last thing I did is restore the backup of oreo again that I found in XDA, but it just give me infinite loop, it's been like half of hour or more "booting", I'm so frustated and worried about this, tell me that there is a solution for this, the phone is literaly new, just five days with it... That version of magisk literally ruined my phone, lol
Ok mate, I suggest you go back to the last factory fastboot Xiaomi source. You flash this with the MiFlash tool.
The first file you need is the latest fastboot rom. This is in the tgz/tar format.
tissot_images_7.12.19_20171219.0000.00_7.1_d39fa89aaf.tgz
Extract this tgz and the subsequent tar file so that you get a directory (containing .bat files and an image folder).
Download MiFlash2017-7-20-0.zip - it must be this version.
Get your phone into fastboot mode with at least 25% battery charge.
Follow the instructions to use MiFlash here https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/how-to/rom-factory-images-t3688548
Good luck!

[PROBLEM] Stuck on Android One logo

Hey!
I installed LineageOs on my Xiaomi Mi A1, everything went okay but when I installed the Gapps, it got stuck on the LineageOs logo. The volume button wasn't working right, yet somehow, I manage to enter TWRP and wipe that OS and restore the backup with the original Android One. But when I boot it, it got stuck on Android logo, unable to enter fastboot, TWRP or hard reset because of the volume button not working.
I don't know what else to do, to be honest...
p.d.: I'm new here, sorry if this is not the right section to ask.
Are you 100% sure that you have chosen right version of GApps? because i never had any issues with GApps causing boot loop. BTW what lineage os version 16 or 17 ?
I never had any luck restoring stock rom backup via TWRP either i have no idea why whenever i restore it will stuck on androidone logo.

I chose Android 10 GApps since I installed LineageOS 17. I thought it was the right version.
So TWRP can't be used for stock rom? I didn't know, maybe that's what got me stuck on Android One logo.
Any idea on how to get out from that loop? ?
Dont worry bootloop is not a problem download pixel experience it include gapps boot ur phone to twrp copy rom into internal or sd card Wipe system , data , cache and install the rom ..
TWRP should backup and restore stock image but i think there is something with this phone which wont let twrp to apply system restore i have done it 10 times and i failed everytime.
Edit: do let me know how it goes:good:

Definitely I'll try Pixel Experience! Seems like a good choice. I still need to figure out how to enter Fastboot or TWRP without the volume button.
try adb cmd if it works if not then u have to boot your device to EDL mode by test point method and then flash stock rom

Adb cmd won't recognize the device, so I'll have to boot it to EDL mode. Is there any guide here? I don't know how to do it.
