Mi mix 3 vs Mi mix 3 5g roms - Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5g Questions & Answers

Hi,
So I have a little question: I assume ROMS for the perseus (regular Mi mix 3) do not work on the andromeda (Mi mix 3 5g?) and vice-versa?
Development for the regular mi mix 3 is quite limited compared to other Xiaomi devices, but am I right that development for the mi mix 3 5g is totally non-existent?
Found a good deal on the mi mix 3 5g and was considering to upgrade from my mi mix 2s, but I dread being stuck with MIUI.

I'm in the same position - Cheap Mix 3 5G deal, a little concerned. I've gone ahead and bought - I don't mind MIUI but otherwise I'd expect treble/GSI roms to work, at least on the Global/EU version of the phone.

Yeah, GSI roms will probably work, but probably not all the slider functions. That's why purpose-build roms are better
Apparently there's no Xiaomi.eu build either, as there are no chinese dev builds for the device.

There are Mi Globe builds for the device - also Redmi K20/Mi9T ROMs almost work on the Mi mix 3 5G (just the touch panel and 5G modem don't work) so there's a possibility for a rom port in the future.

I just ordered mine, and also coming from a mix 2s. I don't mind the lack of custom ROMs as I always loved miui. I only hope for stable twrp and magisk. That's all I'll be using

Magisk works fine and I've never had any problems with the experimental TWRP here on XDA (it's in the ROMs and kernels section). The phone does seem to have a tendency to brick itself (boots to Fastboot and recovery doesn't work) though so I recommend downloading the Fastboot ROM for it off the Xiaomi website and keeping it ready so you ca run the flash_all bat file inside it (this has always fixed my problems)

Will the Mi Note 2 get stock android ROMs?

I've been thinking about getting the Mi Note 2. Since it's snapdragon based, will it be getting official CyanogenMod support and other AOSP ROMs? I know some of the Redmi phones have stable CM builds but I haven't found one for the newer Mi 5.
Based on history, what do you guys think?
And how stable are the CM builds on other Xiaomi phones? Do things like the camera, GPS, and fingerprint sensor still work as they would on stock MIUI?
I think there's a really good chance. For whatever reason the stock rom tends to leak...
also Mi5 has CM - http://en.miui.com/thread-280535-1-1.html

Redmi 3S development == Redmi 4 prada too? (2/16 version)

I'm still waiting for my phone to be arrived, but unfortunately they told me Xiaomi no longer distribute 3S, so instead they gave me the idea to keep a Redmi 4.
My question is, do Redmi 3S recovery/kernel, custom ROMs work on Redmi 4?
The only difference is the camera, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth everything is the same as Redmi 3S

Could you explain why it wouldn't work?
Redmi 3S and Redmi 4 both has the same chipset aswell as GPU

Maybe the current 3S development scene will be useful as an initial base for future development with the redmi 4, but we don't know if the rest of the hardware will be the same (touch input, RIL, microphone, partition table, etc etc.). If the hardware is different, devs will have to dig another models or brand source drivers, make new binaries, blah blah.
So if you're asking if a ROM built for Redmi 3S will work on Redmi 4, the answer is NO, and trying it is firmly discouraged.
If you're asking if 3S ROMs will share code or serve as base for Redmi 4 ROMs, the answer could be a YES, but a real dev should answer this after trying.

look the same
Make a full nandroid backup and try! We are interested wheater it works!
I compared every file, and It seems prada indeed is the same as land's 16GB version
There are some minor differences, but It seems they are really the same.
If you check this: https://github.com/Kizoky/android_device_xiaomi_prada
You can see that I previously created this for 3S, but I converted it into prada files, there aren't any huge differences.
One could flash a Redmi 3S Marshmallow ROM, but at the end reflash original boot.img to see If it boots.
Camera, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth may not work, but If everything else is working, then only these 3 needs some changes in the Redmi 3S' kernel If Xiaomi refuses to release Prada's kernel sources
Unfortunately Redmi 4 doesn't have a subforum like Redmi 4 Prime, that's why I created this thread, as Redmi 4 is very identical to 3S in every aspect.

Yes, most likely I would brick the phone, but I don't have the phone yet because It is still shipping
I will give it a few tests once I've got my hands on it and my BL is unlocked

It can be ported.
Earlier I stated that you can just simply replace the boot.img with Redmi 4's stock boot.img, but the performance won't be the same as in 3S, due to custom made changes in 3S' kernel which fixes bugs in the open source kernel. Some things like GPS wouldn't work
Okay, it seems prada has Goodix fingerprint scanner, just as Redmi 3S
I still don't know why it is very similar to 3S

Project Treble & 2018 Xiaomi Flagships - Mi 7 & Mi Mix 2S.

Are you looking forward to the 2018 flagship phones from Xiaomi - Mi 7 & Mi Mix 2S, especially since Project Treble will allow for ease of custom rom development ?
I probably won't upgrade my MI6 to MI7 but for other reasons. I don't like capacitive buttons and fingerprint sensors to be desapeared from front side.
Project Trebble is a great idea and is mandatory from factory Oreo versions. It will be easer to upgrade Android versions, even with MIUI.
I'm not so sure about kernel sources liberating, we have to wait more every time a new smartphone has been released from Xiaomi. I hope dev work will be easer to do with Project Trebble, and we get more stable custom ROM's.

Well, mi6 is my last xiaomi phone.
Without kernel sources treble is not comprehensive resolution.
I will buy phone from company which provide better developer support. Probably OP but I will also take a look what Huawei will do

Are Mi 9T and Redmi K20 the same if using a custom Rom?

Looking out for a new phone, I know both are the same phone but are they identical in all aspects but name only (and some branding)?
If I were to buy a K20 (cheaper by almost 100e) over the Mi 9T, will the former work exactly the same as the later for me? I will be installing a custom rom for either if not at least the Global MIUI / Xiaomi.EU rom.
It's same specs except for mobile network frequency bands.
Feck, bands! No band 20 on the k20, that's a no go then. Although in doing that my current mi 8se seems fine

The man was me, they are xiaomi eu versions ported from Redmi 9T, which is identical to POCO M3, with a few exceptions for which it is not possible to port Redmi 9T firmware directly to POCO M3. Now I use xiaomi eu 12.6.30, and for me it's the best rom for our POCO, of course I have an unlocked botloader etc.
