Hopefully this thread may help a lot of others out there and save all some time. Here in Japan the carrier staff are notoriously useless when it comes to technical help. Even the technical staff.
So bought a new unlocked Nexus 5 from EMobile Japan with a 4G-S sim piggy-backing the Softbank network. Staff stated the sim should work in any unlocked phone (now stating he said it would not lock, but says it is not IMEI specific). Anyway here's the deal when using the sim in a Docomo unlocked Samsung Note 3
* Voice calls okay
* DATA does not work.
* Have tried many different APNS including those below, but no joy.
* The Nexus 5 itself can use any sim.
Can anyone shed any light on the above? Have tried to speak to EMobile technical support but they were no help. Here are some links in Japanese on the subject.

any updates on this??
I have some questions:
- Is the Docomo Phone unlocked?
- Did you try the Emobile Sim on another International LTE phone (other than iPhone)?
Hi fake guy. No positive updates. Just some clarification. EMobile Japan uses a type of device filtering (like IMEI filtering) that allows their SIM only to work in devices with certain spec. I.e. Nexus 5 and their Arrows phone. This means you CANNOT get data services in an UNLOCKED phone like my unlocked Docomo Note 3 or my international HTC SV LTE.
I was told that Emobile tech have an engineering code that can remove this, but of course this would never be publicised.
Why they choose to do this when their target users are business people, early adopters and foreigners who want flexibility, and the fact they are losing the tiny market share they.

same here - no ability to connect to data network using emobile 4G-S sim into simfree Xperia Z2....Anyone has an idea as to what is the filter/lock used by Emobile (phone model type etc...) or found a way around it ?

I don't have a huge amount of experience trying to use eMobile phone SIM cards for data, but I can tell you that SIM cards sold for an eMobile feature flip phone work in the Sony Mini Smart Phone that eMobile was selling just fine.
Also, I took a data only SIM for a GL06P and put it in a NEC Aterm router and it works just fine.
In my experience they don'T filter by phone IMEI or anything like that, it's just that they use band 9, which isn't supported by a lot of hardware. For example, I have an unlocked DoCoMo Xperia Z1 and it works with other SIM cards fine, but it doesn't work with eMobile just because of the frequency support.
Thanks Shiruba. That may be another possibility, but I visited my EMobile, sorry Y!Mobile (rolling my eyes ) shop last week, and they said a customer reported success in getting data with the Nexus 5 sim in different handsets. Coincidence as I just had a feeling to check about that time , and sure enough the Japanese blog had updated with this info. They report intermittent success.

Checked my sim in HTC one SV. Got 4G. However, no luck in my Samsung Docomo S4 unlocked.
Hi, I just wondering if this thread still active.
Have you @duttyskank try the apn setting from y!mobile faq:

Hi, sold my nexus 5 so my experience stops with above post. When I leave Japan will be happy to return to mobile freedom. None of this nonsense.
Hi all.
Does any one know if there is a plan to release Dual Sim variant ?
Thank you.

For anyone At&t, frequencycheck.com says it misses half the LTE bands

That's great but who can actually sell me one. This phone seems to be like rocking horse droppings, talked about but non existent :crying:
I dropped my V10 from one foot last week and something internal has gone making a section of the screen dark. No cracks dents or otherwise - so much for the mil-spec six foot drop test rating....
Desperately need a replacement and the timing seemed prescient until it has become apparent that LG doesn't want to make hay whilst the sun shines over Samsung's nightmare !
If anyone knows where a dual sim lurks, please let me know
Philippines v20 is dual SIM. And if the sales person is right, doesnt share w sdcard like the note 7
Hong Kong and Taiwan version of LG V20 will probably be a dual sim version and both of them will be announced in 20/10, perhaps you can get one in the near future via parallel import.

Did you really have to spam every other post here with this question?
And the answer is no, different hardware, pins, whatever you want to call it.

I can also confirm that the V20 in Philippines is dual sim. LG concept store called me yesterday to inform me that the LG V20 is dual sim (they called because the initial specs says only single sim and wanted to confirm if I still wanted to pre-order). and yes I was also told that the micro sd slot doesn't share the sim2 slot (they say they already have the demo units and they have checked)
In the specs here
http://www.lg.com/ph/mobile-phones/lg-V20-titan
It calls it True Dual SIM which to me is a nudge at those who share with the SD card - in my opinion one of the dumbest things designers ever came up with. Hmm I'll make a Dual sim for the heavy duty users and remove their storage expansion....
So I've been seriously considering this phone. It seems that the Taiwan version (H990DS) is the one to get as it supports more North American bands, unlike the Hong Kong version (H990N). I've been scouring the web trying to find a user manual for either of them, but LG hasn't posted it yet, only the US versions. One of the things I've come across is that it appears as if the 2nd sim slot only supports 3G, not LTE. Does anybody have one of these yet to confirm or deny it? FYI, I'm in Canada, but travel to the US quite a bit where I use the T-Mobile $3/day plan. It sucks having to pop the back off and swap cards every time I cross the border, but if it's true that the 2nd slot only supports 3G, then I might as well get the single sim version.
may i know does anyone have any info regarding the dual sim version configuration ?
which is it below ?
- when one sim on 4G (browsing or VoLTE) the other Sim drops to 2G (both sim switchable with in phone sim management)
or
- when one sim on 4G (browsing or VoLTE) the other Sim drops to 3G (both sim switchable with in phone sim management)
or
- SIM 1 always on/have 4G/3G/2G the SIM 2 always only 2G (non switchable !!)
I have the hong kong version H990N, both sim supports 4G+3G, 3G+3G or 2G simultaneous on either sim 1 or sim 2, if anyone needs the specs of supporting bands on this model, please let me know.

sorry to ask but can you add in the specifics ... what you are saying are when on standby time and that we all know (which clears out my option 3) but what i want to know is the moment you surf on 4G or call (either sim) what does the other sim becomes ?
drops to 3G or 2G ?
this is important to me as 2G will phase out end this year in my country so if this phone will drop to 2G means its useless to me and show no signal.
side note i saw a posting on the Philippines version it stated that the second sim is only on 2G
source ---> http://www.phonemore.com/phone/lg-v20-h990ds-dual/2847
when one sim is in use the other sim is disabled, but since i only have 2 3G sim, the othere sim still stays on 3G but is not usable.
I think only a handful of phones can do 2 sim active, they are all chinese brand.

Hey, could you list the LTE bands? Thinking of importing this version for ATT.
Gsm 850/900/1800/1900
wcdma 850/900/1700/1800/1900/2100
td-scdma 1900/2000
lte b1/b2/b3/b4/b5/b7/b8/b12/b17/b20/b26/b28/b38/b39/b40/b41
It is always the case that one sim can run at 4g while another at 3g, i got 990N
At least there is improvement, it was the mi 5 that was the first phone, if you are talking about a none chinese brand, sony xperia XP the first note 7, then V20.
I got the Taiwan 990ds for 2 days and love it!
It supports 4G+3G (switchable between SIM1 or SIM2), meaning both sims will function in countries with 3G and above only. It also has separate TF card slot unlike the Samsung Note 7/S7 Edge which sacrifices SIM2 when using TF.
Fingerprint sensor is much faster than V10 and battery life is amazing compared to V10 (used for 16 hrs with a few hours of browsing and 2+ hours call, messaging, etc still with 10% battery left.... Forgot to check SOT though).
It is definitely a few notches better than the V10 and the S7 Edge (which I somehow didn't like the grip), and possibly on par with the Note 7 (iris scanner is way way better the finger prints!).
Now, if only we can get root it will be perfect!

The closest Ive thus far researched is the mediapad with LTE that can make and receive phones. Issue us none of the LTE bands work on T mobile USA.
Was wondering if anyone would know of a tablet that can accomodate a SIM card and work on T Mobile usa LTE network as well? Most the ones I see are data only.
Thanks.
I would have thought the US version of the Mediapad m3 would support T-Mobile LTE?
Anyway, have a look at the Galaxy Tab S2 LTE. It should...
Edit: nevermind, you asked about Voice. S2 LTE doesn't do voice other than VoIP.
A little outdated, but the Sony z3 compact tablet does voice calls and should be T-Mobile compatible.
How about the z4 ? US version. Xperia Z4 Tablet Sgp771us/B 1303-5541

does the mediapad m3 support rogers/fido? I'm on the same boat I have the killer $15/3GB tablet plan from fido looking for a tablet to put the sim in
I bought the Z4 LTE tablet and it works. The version is hk Chinese international model that has voice enabled. I don't think the USA spec has the dialer. All works except for volte. Since it's not t mobile provisioned bull****.
To see if phone or tablet works with carrier
You need to go to this site. WillMyPhoneWork.net Anyone else find one that has spec's like this that will work with T-mobile. That's what I thought I bought. When I purchased mine Amazon had it in the spec's as haven't voice phone...
With T-Mo the best you'll get is H+. I have been using this tablet with AT&T and all I get is H+ in Chicagoland but it is acceptable although I have issues from time to time where I have to reboot to make a call. The issue is that this tablet does not physically have the LTE bands that the US uses for LTE. Sucks because otherwise this is a great tablet/phone. Of course I have the international model BTV-DL09
Hi ,
I bought moto g5 plus in india. Now i moved to US and using ultra prepaid services. Signals are coming and going(not stable). Calls are getting disconnected in between due to loss in signal. Sim is working fine on moto g 1st gen which i also bought from india 3 years ago. I did factory reset. Will the basic calling and 3g internet work ? sometimes signal is getting detected it is displaying as E(edge) not LTE. also tell about 4G LTE ? Motorola US also not considering as it is bought in india. What to do in this case ? Please suggest. I will be happy if the basic calling and 3g works
You can go to your service providers and ask them whats going on
what carrier are you using in the US?
Tmo heavily uses 1700 around me, and the Indian variant doesn't support it, but it will fall back to 2100, which is support. 2G/Voice should be support though.
something else I would be curious to know is if you have roaming enabled on your device?
Hi everyone,
I'm living in Hong Kong and since I'll be in the us soon, I'm thinking to get Pixel 4 during the Black Friday time.
I think that Motion Sense will not work since not in the list of countries supporting it.
I'm more interested in the eSIM capabilities. Anyone knows if I only need to confirm if my carrier Vodafone can convert my SIM card to an eSIM? Or I need to ensure that Vodafone can provide an eSIM specially compatible with Pixel 4? I'd prefer to use the SIM card slot as my secondary one when I travel.
Thanks,
Axello
Think you need to ask your provider if they support the Pixel 4.
I was in HK last month and Dual SIM worked just fine with Vodafone Germany eSIM and loal CSL card. But since the Pixels are not really popular there, they don't andvertise them much what makes it hard to find Information.
There is an App from Airalo in the PlayStore for eSIM activation which says in the description that eSIM just works in the US but not in Hong Kong for the Pixel 4. The Pixel 3 is supported tho.
So the chance is not that high for using an eSIM.
Motions Sense won't work but everything is fine. Just need to mention that this Phone dosen't support Miracast. So you can't stream to TV's like from LG.
Think they deactivated this function since the Pixel 2.
Thanks D4rk_nVidia,
My provider (Smartone/Vodafone) can provide eSIM but since Pixel are not official sold in HK, they can only confirm it works in iPhone.
I'm just wondering is an eSIM from a provider can work on any phone with the eSIM feature... or if the shipset to store the eSIM data from any provider is the same (a standard among manufacturer).
I think it should work and worst case (a shame), I'll use the nano SIM then...
Axello
Hi everyone,
Just to confirm, I got my Pixel 4, I went to Smartone and they said it is normally not supported, they only support iPhone.
I gave it a try (free for the 1st change, 6.5US$ if we need to rollback, not a bad deal).
I have LTE (which is fine for me), calls, … working fine.
Cheers,
Axello
