So I've been using gcam Version 7 port on this phone and I've realised that the app isn't utilizing the telephoto lens. I've tried all modes but only one lens is active which isn't the telephoto lens. I even tried the stock camera app with same results. When I ran a simm test through the calculator app, the lens was working. So how do I utilize this lens. Also guide me if I'm missing something. Thanks.
This is news to me that our device has a telephoto lens...

Well, what I have is a 4/64 with 16+5 back cameras. I think this is what we have in the Philippines.
There's a 16+5MP Camera setup on the 4/64 variant of the M1? That's news to me. Always thought that it was 6/64 instead.

Gcam or any other third party app won't/can't use the second camera. The default camera app uses the 2nd camera only for portraits. Gcam uses software to achieve this and hence won't use the second cam.

Hi All,
It seems that the 5T has a low light shooting preference over telephoto and facial unlock.
Although the latter is not something I'd ever use, I was thinking would it be possible for the camera's on the 5 to use the low light functionality of the 5T? I've read that they're similar?
If not, it's not the end of the world, I've took some great pics with my 1+ but if I could improve low light then it'd be a bonus.
I believe the 5T has a different camera sensor.
If that's the case, it won't be portable unless you change the camera altogether.
The primary camera is the same, the difference is on the second camera. Now its nos a zoom len, it will work for low Light shoots because the sensor has a different aperture.
The 5 has de 1.6x len zoom, now on the 5T, all the zoom is digital
Enviado do meu ONEPLUS A5000 através de Tapatalk
Actually I think OP5 is doing the same thing (obviously with different second camera sensor) test yourself: open camera app, cover the main camera and obviously you will see just black, here is the weird thing: change to "zoom" (2x), cover the second camera (supposed zoom lens) you'll still have image then cover the main camera boom no image! So for 2x is just a digital zoom (a good one) from the main camera, and the second camera is just used for portrait mode effect
I think this is only in low light condition. Try this again in good light and it would work as expected
google cam with HDR+ will give you better low light shots
i took a picture of the night sky the other day and it actually turned out a beautiful picture. very surprised how well it judged exposure time.
We need to wait OxygenOS 4.7 to discover how many new features will arrive also in our OnePlus 5.

?? Oreo had nothing to do with what I've asked.?
I only need to know if the camera choice!! Low light over zoom can be transferred. In all honesty the second camera never works. Cover it an nothing happens.
In low light the second camera doesn't work, and it's better that way. With an f/2.6 aperture, it just wouldn't allow enough light in to the tiny sensor to be useful. This would be true even with the pixel binning technique the 5T uses for its secondary camera.
It's also entirely possible that there's hardware involved for that feature to work properly too.

Unbelievable bull crap from a senior member. This untrue.
Second lens activates in good looking lighting automatically, you covered the lens manually so it thinks it's dark and it will take the picture with main lens.
Best way to test is to test outside, I can visually see, how it's jumping from one lens to another when zooming. Also you can see whether it used the second lens from the photo details.
You don't need to be rude dude... Yes I'm senior member but I'm not a God that know how everything works, I just did that test and see that results, didn't know how this dual camera works. So I researched a bit and found what you said. My bad
Here's a video to understand how this dual camera works

Not likely since you have to have a lower aperture (1.7 or so) a Tele lens aperture is usually higher and allows less light to reach the sensor. With this, it is highly unlikely to have a software update that will allow the 5 to reproduce the 5T's low light photo quality.

I have seen some dev has made separate APK for an LG phone with two back cameras. One app uses the wide angled lens camera, the other app uses the tele lens camera.
I tried them but only one of them work with the AI and it uses the wide lens so it is no different to the other Gcams for AI in that regard.
Has anyone made a Gcam that uses the tele cam for the A1 yet?

Thanks for that... I have tried cstark27_GCam_5.1.018_24_wide_v3.6 and the wide cam (green icon) just crashes on opening continuously... Never got it to work.
I tried cstark27_GCam_5.1.018_24_v3.6 (blue icon) and that is still using the wide lens... I can't see anywhere to enable the tele lens. I also cleared the cam data as per the info on the thread you linked to.
I have checked it is only using the wide lens by going into the MIAI default cam app and choosing manual then changing to 2x and the field of view is much different.
Can you please confirm all your settings and confirm you are actually using the tele lens.
There is a solution now.

Hey guys.
I`ve rooted my Nubia Z17 Lite and installed Google Cam and Meziu Cam, thank you for your great work.
Back camera works fine with Google Cam and Meizu Cam- I can choose my max pic resolution : 13 mpx. And high video recording.
But there is a problem with front camera on theese apps. I can record HD videos but apps detecs my front camera as ... 3 mpx. I can`t change the resolution.
So question is: Nubia Z17 Lite has really 16 Mpx front camera or is it only 3 Mpx cam and that is a lie from ZTE. Or do I have to change something in system settings? Please help me with it
Hi. I have rooted my phone but I have not tried the google cam and meizu cam.
Do you have the links for them? I can try.

Which version of Google camera do you use? I tried some, but they either were crashing or making photos with green squares. Although video seems to work and have electronic stabilization.
Regarding 3 Mpx thing - it is probably something in software. When you move a diagnostic app to system app, it will have access to all information and it will show camera info properly. Mine shows two Sony 13 Mpx sensors and one Samsung 16 Mpx (see the attached screenshot).
@lapist thank you so much for your reply.
I download app and it shows me I have a 3 mpx camera. 3 mpx and resolutions 2080 x 1560. Is it a big lie of Nubia that there is a 16 mpx cam or is it system failure? What do you thing about its?

It shows me the same information, but without root and system access rights, the app won't show you the actual hardware.
You need to be rooted and move the app from data to system partition to see the hardware properly, as I shown on my screenshot.
So no, it is not just 3 megapixels , but from camera has 16 Mpx Samsung sensor.
@lapist my phone is rooted. Where exacly I have to move the app on my disc?

You just need to convert the app to system app. You can use any tool (e.g. App Systemizer from magisk plugins) or move the app folder from /data/app to /system/app.
BTW, Nokia camera app sees front camera as 16 megapixels.
i have Z17 premuim and i ve same problem my app camera give me just 12.2mpx in back cam , i think the secondary cam it not work or problem in software. ??
thanks you for help ;
Front camera is quad cfa (four pixels arranged in one) raw output has quad bayer demosaic, so all apps using camera2 will see 4 mp output. That's it.

This is forum for Z17 Lite, not premium.
If you want to use the camera at max resolution, you need to switch to sensor's native ratio, which is 4:3...not 16:9. It is the same on all cameras - 16:9 is just cropped.

It is good mainly for videos - gcam has EIS, while stock Nubia app doesn't have any stabilization.
And gcam is also good for panoramas and spheres.
One more question. On HomTom ht17 with mtk cpu, the old gcam v2.7 has a hdr option. I install the same version on z17 lite and hdr does not exist!
Any of the older gcam to install, none has a hdr, and the Chinese cheap phone with mtk cpu has. How that ?

Same for me. I really enjoy the Photos of my OP3 with Gcam 7.2 very much, everyone is astonished about the quality a 4 year old 450€ phone can achieve.
It's just too slow, takes 30 seconds after 2 shots to process
So far, I had no time to test the OP8T, but tomorrow I hope my wife and me can make comparison shots with OP3 and OP8T, both with GCam. The macros that you can achieve with of the OP3 and GCam are really amazing, you can see single hairs on bumblebees.
Why did I not choose a Pixel 5?
1. You can't buy it officially in Austria and they cancel illegally purchases from Austria in the German shop
2. Google support is the worst of the worst, while OnePlus has fantastic support, easy to reach.
3. You get so much more raw power in the OP8T than in the Pixel 5. While the Pixel 5 is good for anything it does today, it's CPU is 1/2 to 1/3 of the power of the 865, so in ~2 years it will already have problems with some software
That said, the pixel camera software is unbeaten and If there would not be Gcam mod, I had a Pixel.

My Jeep in the snow
Anybody managed to get a good enough picture with the macro lens? For me the macro camera is really poor. I mean, like 2005 used to have better camera than this, the photos are very unclear and grainy every single time, pretty useless. The main camera is good enough and the Ultrawide is ok, usable. But the other 2 are really a waste of space. imo.

Camera gets far better with Gcam.
I'm seing that it uses the same camera sensors as the 7! Is this true?! How come they don't update the sensors?
Hi,
Is there a way to install and run OOS Camera app (the one that comes preinstalled in OOS) in LineageOS 18.1 ? I'm guessing it's not only about the camera apk itself but also about some parts of the sub-system / kernel which include appropriate drivers to the Camera sensor hardware.
I switched from OOS to LOS and experience has been near flawless, until I remembered that camera support is as usual with AOSP roms is still a big issue since manufacturers will not open their APIs for full access and control to the camera sensor. I've tried all sorts of gCam mods, and the main issue is that none of them actually support the 2x lens, which I use a lot. Even back when I ran OOS and had both OOS camera and gCam mod installed, I would still defauilt to the native OOS camera for most usecases (full res photos, video, slowmotion and timelaps videos) and use gCam for specific uses (photosphere and panorama). I feel I'm going to have to revert to OOS if I cannot find a workaround the LineageOS / gCam situation and I feel I've been thrown back 5-10 years back camera performance-wise.
Thanks in advance for your help
There is no 2x lens in 6T it's a depth sensor.
Use this GCam Mod follow the instruction properly, it's a great camera app.

You are mistaken. The 6T has a dual camera set up. The first and main is a wide angle, the second is a 2x fixed lens. You can actually switch between cameras on the oneplus camera app (and you can check that by masking each camera with your finger) ; you cannot on the GCam mode which only talks to the main wide angle lense.
