Cannot use Google Assistant on lock screen - Redmi K20 / Xiaomi Mi 9T Questions & Answers

Hello, i cannot figure out how to turn GA on to wake up the phone when the screen is OFF, there is no option to select it. GA even doesn't work without any locks when screen turned off by short pressing power button. Works fine when device locked and screen is ON
any suggestions, i am on MIUI Global 10.3.11?
i just got MI 9T, had Mi MIX 2s before and it was working fine
(Edited to clarify "when phone is locked and the screen is OFF" condition)

Mi 9T or K20 dont have option for use "ok google" with off screen. Maybe hardware problem or software, i dont know. The only way for work is when phone is charging battery or install xposed

will see if MIUI 11 will fix this problem next week

So the mi 9t doesn't have hotword assistant activation? Can custom ROMs activate this like lineage or pixelexperience?
I was about to create a topic asking about this issue, please provide a screenshot of the VOICE MATCH settings page inside the Google app.
Just for comparison I'm gonna share a screenshot from a Motorola Z3 play, the assistant is always listening and even has the ability to say "hey Google" instead of "okay Google".

Works for me ;P

Thank you for providing the screenshot.
The important part is being able to activate it when the screen is off
It seems the mi 9t assistant doesn't work when the screen is off, people who use the assistant daily need that, what a bummer, I really wanted to buy this phone, but that's a definitive deal breaker, I'm not buying it

I don't believe MIUI 11 will fix this because AFAIK it isn't a bug, even though the chip Wcd9340 is present, as evidence shows, the chip's always-on listening capabilities are certainly DEACTIVATED. I don't know why.
I'm not surprised by this find, in fact I returned my mi mix 2 in the same day I opened it exactly because of the same reason, the assistant didn't work when the screen was off

MIUI 11 one of the features said to me an "Unlock by voice command". Maybe they finally enabled listening, unless they use different hardware for this, which i think is unlikely

You can use Voice Assistant from Lock Screen but not from Always-on Display. If you want to enable that, go to Settings > Google > Account services > Search, Assistant & Voice > Google Assistant > Assistant > Scroll down until you see Assistant devices. You will see your device there (for me its called Phone), press on it and enable "Lock screen personal results". Hope this helps .

It is turned on by default and works on Lock screen as it should but not when the screen is off completely, only FP is visualized.

I might have found an answer, the thing is that this option is missing in Mi9t or MIUI probably or Google removed it. But here's the screenshot from Pixel 3 and you can see a setting "Unlock with Voice Match" which is missing on Mi9t.
In addition, the "Access with Voice Match" has different description and so the functionality.

Used to have this feature with the Poco F1 but now I'm missing it on the 9T. Strange how they decided to deactivate it when the hardware is certainly capable.

would be interesting to know if Xiao AI wakes the phone up. i bet it does

It's available on the mi 9t pro miui 10 here's a screenshot to prove it
Now, someone that has the mi 9t non-pro should check it

I have an MI6 which will only unlock when the screen is on and an MI8 which will wake when the screen is off. Does anyone have am MI 9 SE, does that wake when the screen is turned off ?

From what I have read and googled there's no possibility to turn it ON if it were restricted by vendor. This is not a bug, it was done due to security measures, in two words if somebody has physical access to your phone they can imitate your voice by saying "Ok Google" or invoke the app remotely and get access to it while the screen is off and in some point it is true. Starting Android 8 more and more vendors restrict this feature, the only solution so far is to use a custom ROM. But I agree it would be nice if developers leave such option at least in developer options that can be activated at your own risk.

So I was just reading online and it is through google so the phone does not matter. I got it working by doing this:
1. On your Android devices, touch and hold the Home button or say "OK Google."
2. In the bottom right, tap Explore & Your stuff.
3. In the top right, tap your profile picture or initial and then Settings and then Assistant.
4. Under "Assistant devices," select your device.
5. Under "Personalization," turn on Personal Results and then turn on Lock screen personal results.
Works now when the screen is off

Hmm than it probably will in the future, they must have updated the kernel for that to work.
For "real buttons" : do you have TouchPlus option on your Huawei p8 max? There are screen protectors for P8 that have buttons in them, with those screen protectors you can disable on screen buttons. But i dont know if they are available for Max, havent found them

Yes. I'm on v018 and it's 5.1.1. I think it was released last week.
No. I don't think the phone supports double tape to wake up screen. I tried it and nothing happens. I can't find any options in settings either.
Yes. In Settings/Navigation bar/Navigation bar ENABLE. When enabled, there's an arrow on the left of navigation bar. Click it to hide the bar.

Thanks for the reply, I've now sorted it, I didn't have Google contact sync apk installed, a quick search found it for me.
The only problem with the Bluetooth method you suggested is it doesn't sync any changes, but thanks for the help anyways.

I just got my Zuk Z1 and I have some questions ?

Hello. I just got this phone and I have some questions :
1- How to take a screen shot?
2- What is the use of CM account and why it set to administration while google account is not?
3- Can you suggest an alternative camera app (I'm not sure if the quality is due to software of hardware since pictures look bad and OIS seems useless)?
4- Where I can find NFC option?
5- Can I set the fingerprint to not work when I first start the phone (require PIN the first time instead)?
6- If I encrypt my phone, will it get slow ? How much time will it take to start?
7- Why the Heck does the default gallery has an account and when I try to remove it is it says the administration doesn't allow you ?!
8- There is a lenovo app that have access to every thing, and I can't do any thing about (I looked up at my friend one +1 and it doesn't have any software made by one +1, could it be a bridge or a spyware to my phone)?
I'm really worried about my privacy, so please help me figuring out the answers of these questions, thank you.

3. open Kamera or the google camera
4. This phone don't have NFC read the phone description
5. Do you mean restart? If yes that's a savety feature.
6. Don't do that it makes more trouble then it helps.
7. Because for the IMG read write things of the gallery

I could not get it to work and looks like in all MIUI roms it's crippled. There is a Bluetooth unlock in lockscreen menu but it's only available with whitelisted Xiaomi gear it seams. Kinda confirmed on other MIUI forums basically they replaced it with their version and only for their devices. The prompt shows only the first time you pair a new device and you can add it but it does nothing and no way to get back in. I tried to trigger all activities from google service framework but could not get back in, only with new BT device will and i ran out of devices to try. No location trigger works

Ok, installed, granted root access, defined my home as trusted place
Locked the screen - it still asks me for pin, cannot unlock without
(I know how to use it, it works perfectly for me on Huawei Mate 9 but here cannot get it to skip entering my pin when I am at home and want to unlock the screen)

Do you really have Xiaomi Mi 9T with stock ROM (and which) and did you really make Smart (un)lock to work for your (home) place, and how?

Unfortunately, true. I was surprised when
@Tizio.Qualunque claimed a 'solution'?!
I've seen many threads for Mi 9T and other Xiaomi phones but never seen anybody claiming that he/she set it up to to really unlock without a pin (or how to do it).
Btw, before I installed this Smart Lock app as he suggested, I got pop-ups by Google Smart lock several time, asking me if I want to set up my (home) location for smart (un)locking (now, during Corona I'm almost all the time at home and unlock the phone by pin tens of time during the day, because unfortunately FOD is very unreliable). So I always confirmed that I want, but still it never worked for unlocking
I can only hope that Xiaomi maybe fix it for MIUI 12, but frankly I don't believe.

Yes. A huge minus.
Use face unlock. Use Mi band or some kind of Mi watch (bluetooth unlock is limited to only one device... ). It's stuipid - I know. But this is only think you may do if you want your phone to be unloceked when you are near.
Eventually you may try Tasker.
I've been dealing with this since miui 6.
As others have said, MIUI has removed all access to smart lock. The only reason you get the notification is because it's served by Google Play services. They can't touch it.
Even if you access the menu by root, it still won't work because MIUI uses its own lock screen, not the stock lockscreen.
They keep kneecapping the Android features, and later introduce them as "new". The only people who actually like MIUI are people who've never used stock Android
More examples from my experience in MIUI 6 :
1. They didn't have face unlock or bluetooth unlock. But Android had it since the previous 2 versions. They added it in the next MIUI as a flagship feature. And it's still bad. It unlocked for my brother's face.
2. Split screen. One generation late.
3. Picture in picture mode. Dunno if it's available even now

As a user come from nexus and Xperia (like pure android with sony exclusive options) devices, miui only have eye catching ui and lots of bloat ware!
User experience (UX) is so bad. You can't find some options easy (for old and pro android user since 2010, i search in settings menu to find some features! How new android user can use miui i don't know!!!)
select widget so hard, no app drawer, lots of bugs, lags (frame drop) anywhere. MIUI good for peoples come from iOS to android. (Animation, Animation, Animation. Not smooth ux, not easy to use ROM)
I bye Xiaomi phone for good hardware and great price.
Don't forget we are in android. For any feature we can find a nice third-party app.
I flash Pixel Experience Plus...
If google not make ugly pixel, and sport it with high end hardware and good price (Nexus Phone!?) , i never bye any mi or galaxy phone! OnePlus can be an option for professional android user too, but not find easy in my country.

Not fixed in MIUI 12 / Android 10.
Makes it impossible to do hands-free calling in the car., since you can't make calls anymore with the screen locked.
Only ways I can see around it is:
1. Keep your phone unlocked,
2. Have face unlock set and place your phone where it can "see you" at all times.
3. Get a cheap Mi band or some other MI product, add it as a trusted device, and keep it charged in your car.
This is utter nonsense from Xiaomi.
With MIUI 12, Android 10 and by using Root Smart Lock app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.rachel030219.smartlocklauncher
I can setup my trusted place and it remembers, but still it doesn't keep the phone unlocked at my home (I must use the fingerprint or pin)
I was thinking if some permissions are missing
I tried it on MI11 with MIUI 12.5 and with the app mentioned, but still not working :-(

Call Recording on Mi 9T 6/64 available?

Hi guys,
I can't find the answer I need, so made a new thread.
Right now I am using Mi A1 (with MIUI Epic 9.10.10) and plan to buy Mi 9T 6/64 from Europe (Bulgaria).
I presume it will come with European version of the MIUI, where as I know the built-in call recording is disabled. That feature is quite important for me and I can't trust the third party apps that should do the job.
As up-to-date, is it still available in the European ROMs? Also, can I flash some of the Chinese MIUIs, where this function is available?
Many thanks. Cheers.
You have it on stock rom enabled, mi9t (non pro) is the last phone that has it, mi 9t pro does not have it.
If you plan to root it via magisk you can give skvalex call recorder magisk moudel a try it is the best call recorder with multi options and privacy.. Security.. You will buy it for sure

Hi. I have tested Skvalex on Ulefone Armor X5 using root and Magisk module, but can't hear the other party. Total Recall with root and Magisk works on this device with both parties recorded. But thanks for the advice anyway.
Many thanks for the confirmations of @CROrION and @E620se
I bought it and yes, call recording is available. Great device. The AOD and the pop-up camera are amazing.
Another thing. Does anyone know how to enable fullscreen caller ID?
I had it on Mi A1 with MIUI Epic ROMs. Just had to mark the contact as Favorite and the ID was on fullscreen. Now, same these contacts are in my Favorites list and the ID is a small, round one.
Thanks.
EDIT: Never mind. I found the solution of the fullscreen. You have to select an image for your contact from the phone gallery instead of the one synced with your google account. It works that way.

Question Enable Auto Phone Call Recording

Hello to everyone,
I hope someone could help me, i need to record any phone call that i make/receive, the phone should record the call without messages to the caller about the phone call is recorded.
Did someone can tell me how can i do this? i have seen that one option is to root the device but if someone have other suggestion is better for me than root the device.
I have also tried this app: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...cord-phone-calls-from-the-phone-line.1441643/ but use the microphone so sometimes there are very noise.
Bye

Yes. I am in the same situation. The only things I can think of are, 1. A call recorder app. or, 2. Using a different dialer, say from a Oneplus phone. But I'm still looking into it. I have been using a call recorder app that seems to work somewhat okay but not that great.
I Hope Simeone could help US..
I have also seen that changing the phone app Is not the solution because some apps uses CSC

That's good to know because I was going to try it. The thing is, depending on what version you have, call recording is built in. So that tells me that all variants could have it built in maybe ? Not sure but I am continuing to do research when I have the time.
Yes, I think that every android phone have this functionality, the problem is that phone app use CSC to enable o not, this is what I have understand

I know that on some newer OnePlus phones you can change the dialer to get call recording. I would think that the Nothing Phone would be similar but at this point I'm totally unsure.

I also read that you can root the phone and use a magisk mod. But I'm not ready to root the phone just yet because it's still under warranty.

Same for me, i don't want to root my phone just for the call recording... but yes, there is this mod that seems really simple....
GitHub - jacopotediosi/GAppsMod: Tweak Google apps (e.g., Phone and Messages) to unlock hidden features (e.g., available only in some countries or on certain devices). Root is required.

We could try this:
Enable Native Call Recording + OP Stock Dialer on OnePlus 10 Pro
Hi guys, Just upgraded from OP7T to OP10 Pro as a European user. Call recording functionality does not come with the device here. Had native call recording enabled on my OP7T through jOnePlus Tools and the likes. Jtools Oneplus does not install...

I tried to install it already but it won't install. Says phone needs to be rooted. But now that I'm thinking about it, I did install that app on a non rooted oneplus 7t before. Just have to give it permission via ADB. I think i might try it again and see if I can get it to install..
Correction. I tried to install just the joneplustools. This one is different.

Yeah, the joneplus tools says: can't install on this device. This app says: "something went wrong. Can't install app".
@rogerrulez

Please keep me updated if you find a way to do this :-D

Not really. I do have two apps installed that are recording calls pretty good ! One of them I installed from Google play called Call recorder. And the other one is one that I came across in one of the posts for the Nothing phone. I have both running at the same time and both are recording calls pretty good. However, I would rather have the inbuilt option.
I'm from Italy and have Nothing Phone for a couple of weeks now so I may be missing something.
I've tried ACR, a well thought app for call recording, but unfortunately it doesn't record bluetooth calls (earphone or car's) so as a couple of other apps. I guess it's a problem that every third party app is having, given Google policy.
So, I'm using the Google phone app call recording utility (upper right corder three dots > settings > call recording). This option has popped out the first time I put in the sim card. I suppose everyone can access this option but with Google you never know...
This makes available a button on the phone screen, a switch between call recording and not recording. Actually, it's only manageable when the call is started and it's available switching in the second screen of the app.
Overall it works pretty well, even on Bluetooth calls. The calls are accessible via the call log history and can de saved. The only drawdown is that you have to put a meaningful name to the file when saving it.
What drives me CRAZY is that it doesn't have the option to ALWAYS record the calls. Apparently, it's an available option (Google has a help page dedicated: https://support.google.com/phoneapp/answer/9803950?hl=en) but not for the Italian version. Or at least for my version
Does anyone know if and how I can make it a permanent choice? I don't want to manually switch it every time...
Any help is very appreciated

You could use MacroCroid. It can press the button for you and fill in the name for you too. You need a fair amount of time to set it up but it would work good.

Thanks for the tip! I thought the same and tried something similar yesterday (Tasker and another app, forgot the name) but gave up for the amount of time needed!
Going to try MacroCroid anyway, hopefully it's a little bit less complicate
Thanks again

You might like to share the macro you build here and change the title to [Solved] enable auto phone call recording
I love to help, have fun!
