j730f/ds wifi calling problem - Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) Questions & Answers

As I mentioned on the titile, I am facing a problem when I try to use wifi calling feature. There is an option on the scroll down menu, but when I tap it nothing happens. And the color of wifi calling is lighter than the others. I tried to open the menu with an app, but it showed empty. Is there a way to make wifi calling work?
Phone bought from Bulgaria. CSC code is ROM (Romania). Phone was sim locked, but lock was removed by using the method from instruction manual. Mobile operator supports wifi calling(feature works normally on an iPhone5s).

There is also software based bug for network mode. I have personally experienced this i.e. network mode doesn’t change in reality even if I select 3g mode. So, to force your particular sim card to switch to 3g only mode, first deactivate/disable other sim card on Yureka from setting> sim cards menu. Then dial *#*#4636#*#* > phone information. Tap on Turn off radio button and wait until the button reads turn on radio. Select WCDMA only from dropdown menu above the button. Wait a few seconds. Now tap on Turn on Radio button. Your desired sim card will successfully connect to 3G network. Now go to settings and sim card option and activate the disabled sim card as well. You may need to manually search for network signal if no network is shown. Also you may need to restart the device. If in 3g mode, your phone doesn’t connect to internet, Go to apn setting to ensure correct apn is selected. Sometimes APN menu might not show any installed network settings, in such case, just restart the handset. All these network related issues will be hopefully solved in the next Yureka ota software/firmware update.
after you did this you need to reboot your device......

I am using the mobile with same sim cards from more than 20 months. But this peculiar issue started occurring from last week. Again the sim is getting detected only after restarting the mobile. I am facing this issue more than 10 times a day. Can you please provide me the resolution.

A hard one – Wi-Fi calling option missing from settings after Sprint activation

Guys this is a very difficult one. I really appreciate your help. If there's any place I can get an answer I think it's here.
My Nexus 6P had the Wi-Fi: option in the settings, I saw it many times. However after activating the phone with Sprint (during the process the agent Keith something into my phone which caused it to download and install something from their system) the Wi-Fi calling option is gone from the settings. I've tried everything I can think of to get it back and have been unable to.
I have a very new Nexus 6P running 6.0.1. I purchased this phone especially for its Wi-Fi calling capabilities to use on the T-Mobile network. At the time of purchase there was a lot of conflicting information about Wi-Fi calling coming from T-Mobile's customer support/technical support and numerous support people were saying the 6P is the only phone they were sure would work. I used the phone on T-Mobile's network with Wi-Fi calling and the Wi-Fi calling worked flawlessly, but there were other problems with their service so I moved on to Sprint. Sprint's Wi-Fi calling was horrible, in fact I don't think it was really doing Wi-Fi calling, I think it was just calling to the cellular network. During my time with Sprint I noticed that the phones Wi-Fi calling settings were gone. I contacted Google and they said that if Wi-Fi calling is not allowed by the carrier then the option would not appear in settings. I don't know if that's true but that's what they said. I assumed moving onto Verizon which does offer Wi-Fi calling would restore that option if it was just a matter of having a Sim card which commanded the phone to enable Wi-Fi calling. However after switching to Verizon I still have no Wi-Fi calling settings, and I am unable to make Wi-Fi calls.
In an attempt to get my Wi-Fi calling features back on the phone by factory wiped the number of times from recovery, I also upgraded to android N beta, I also routed the phone and tried installing Cyanogenmod, I also installed pure nexus, I also returned back to the stock Marshmallow, and nothing restored the Wi-Fi calling option on the phone.
I believe what the Sprint agent dialed on my phone to cause it to download and install something from their network is ##72786#, though the agent also dialed ##873283# and ##675#.
One of the Verizon technical support agents suggested that I dial *#*#72786#*#* but when I do that nothing happens except what I dialed clears out of the dialer. I used one of the apps to discover secret codes on my phone and it shows that code is handled by an application called SprintDL. I know some people whose Nexus 6P have never been on the Sprint network also have that application, so I'm not sure if that is something that was installed during the activation process with Sprint.
Now I'm wondering if I need to reflash the vendor information or the radio modem information part of the ROM. It seems like all the roof flashing that I've done would have flashed over everything that could be flashed. But it does seem like something happened to my phone, something was installed or changed or replaced and whatever that is is surviving through multiple factory wipes and ROM flashings.
Sorry for going on, but I want to pass along everything up front so I don't receive irrelevant responses were requests for more information.
I will be so grateful of anybody can help me out of this mess. I live in a place with very poor cellular coverage and Wi-Fi calling is critically important. If I have to send this phone back to Huawei all have to purchase another phone to use in the interim.
Thank you in advance.

Surely you jest. But of course.
Honestly, do you think someone who's rooted their phone and has flashed a number of different ROMs wouldn't know or how to look in the settings?

Thank you so much! So you mean that:
A) your phone has the Wi-Fi calling option in the settings but it does not work with Verizon?
– or –
B) because you are on the Verizon network the option for Wi-Fi calling does not show up in your settings?

I do not have the wifi calling option in my settings. I've always been with Verizon so I haven't tested it with another network to if that would change. I wish I checked to see if it was there before it was activated but I didn't. I'm fairly sure the option just doesn't show up if the network doesn't support it.

Thank you so much! That is so great to know! I know that my setting for WiFi calling was there because I received the phone and played with it before I activated it and the setting was there. It was there when I was with AT&T and with T-Mobile.
I just found out what the problem/solution. It's the sim card. Today I purchased a T-Mobile sim card and even before it was activated, as soon as I popped it in my phone presented a notification about wifi calling and sure enough I checked the settings and the wifi calling option was back.
So if you have a 6p and the wifi calling option is not visible it's because of your sim card. Removing the wifi calling disabled sim card, rebooting the phone, reflashing the rom/firmware does NOT restore the visibility of the wifi calling option. The only thing that will restore the visibility of the wifi calling option is to insert a sim card that is wifi enabled.
I wish the good folks at Google or Huawei knew that the wifi calling setting's appearance or disappearance is tied to the sim card. It would have saved me a lot of work and headache
So having installed the sim from T-Mobile got you back the Wi-Fi settings back but when you put back the Sprint/Verizon sim did it remove it again or not? And if it didn't did Wi-Fi calling work on Sprint/Verizon? Or do we have to call and order a Wi-Fi enabled sim from our carrier?

WiFi Calling on US Tmobile

I can not find the option to turn this on in the Settings menu unless I search for it. After searching & selecting it, I can enable WiFi Calling. Unfortunately as soon as I leave that screen the option turns off. Can anyone else get the function to remain turned on after leaving the selection screen? I am using a Tmobile SIM card. Also on Z.A.D's ROM v3.
I don't think tmobile supports WiFi calling for our phone. But ZTE is working with them to make this happen
T-Mobile WiFi Calling hasn't been added yet.
Thanks. Since I could enable it, I was thinking it was ROM related. Weird that I can't find the option in Settings without searching for it.

WiFi calling - Three UK

I am on Android 7.0. See software specs in attached screenshot. Three UK turned on wifi called end of January. My phone is unlocked and bought from Samsung. I don't seem to have the WiFi calling option. I have already checked that you don't need a phone bought from three, it will work with any s7 Edge.
Anyone have wifi calling working with any network on a non carrier phone? I don't see any options for it anywhere either.
Launch the phone app (I.e. The green phone icon), tap the settings option on the top right. For me it's an option just under vibrate.
I'm on EE with a phone that came direct from Samsung.

You should see what CSC/PDA the stock Three UK S7 Edge comes with, I think it is this one https://samsung-firmware.org/download/Galaxy S7/81c4/HTS/G930FXXU1DQB7/G930FHTS1DQA4/ but you should confirm. Then flash it with Odin. It won't trip Knox or anything. You can find out how to do that here on XDA.

I did confirm with three today and have found it elsewhere on the Internet that it doesn't need three own branded firmware. So I don't really want to install it. I was part of the 7.0 beta, I wonder if that has caused issues.
Yes I'm on the same build version. I was also on the 7 beta and the only difficulty I had was locating the WiFi calling option as it used to be located through the main settings.
Do you have to opt in for WiFi calling on Three? I think I may have with EE.

Any joy with three wi fi calling s7 edge
I have updated my unlocked s7 edge as suggested by three, but no wi fi calling available, I have to walk to end of road on holiday cottage could do with a fix. Three in touch no longer works either. Did you get a solution from Samsung?
Wi-Fi Calling works only on H3G Firmware
After few nights of flashing various CSC ROMs, I can confirm that Wi-Fi calling and HD Calling on Three UK appears on H3G firmware only and it works like it should.
Here are few notes after flashing:
XEU - No Wi-Fi calling option, VoLTE icon intermittent, dropping calls after few min if started calling on 4G, keeps switching back to 3G to initiate a voice call.
BTU - No Wi-Fi Calling option, VoLTE icon appears and seems OK when calling over 4G, however no HD voice.
H3G - Wi-Fi Calling option appears in Call Settings and it works! However no VoLTE icon but for sure it makes voice calls over 4G as it initiate a voice call much faster and the radio doesn't switch back to 3G, also the HD icon appears when making a phone call to compatible service number or another phone which supports HD voice - call is sharp crystal clear like on Skype or Messenger etc.
Conclusion: To get all stuff enabled Wi-Fi Calling + VoLTE + HD Voice you need to get your phone directly from Three or flash H3G firmware to your current phone.
H3G firmware luckily hasn't got too much of a bloatware, it can be easily uninstalled or disabled
Please hit thumbs up for me :good:

I found exactly the same when I tested roms, you need the network rom to get wificalling.
I know this is an old thread but still relevant today.
I found pretty much the same thing. WiFi Calling and VoLTE on EE needs the EVR firmware (but I think it may work on BTU as well with Android 8)
3 does require the HG3 firmware
Without the correct match of firmware the option to enable WFC does not appear in phone/settings.
Others like O2 and Voda probably require their own firmware as well.
But what is really weird is if you get for example, an iPhone 6S and put a 3 card in it...WFC just works and the same with EE. No special firmware. Maybe Apple know something we don't
Do you see the WiFI Calling option in Phone Settings with Three / H3G UK firmware on a phone that works with WiFi calling? I can't see any reference to that option on the Three help pages. If so, any chance of a screenshot?
Thanks
I am in similar situation with S7 Edge which currently doesn't have an option for wifi calling. I moved from O2 to Three recently. O2 wifi calling worked and the option was there. It doesn't have the option on Three.
Does anybody know which firmware to flash which will enable this option? I've downloaded both the BTU version and H3G version for the UK. Can anyone please confirm if either of these will enable wifi calling option?
Many Thanks.

I think you have a better chance with the Three firmware, but AFAIK, the issue is that Android phones are coded to a carrier. This doesn't seem to matter with VOLTE but for some reason VOWiFi is an issue. If anyone knows how to get around this, I'd be happy to know too.

Thanks for the reply. I thought the Three firmware would be better but I was hoping someone has tried this and actually got it working. Seems odd that the phones sold direct by Three have this by default but it seems almost impossible to enable if the phone was bought elsewhere. That's why I'm wondering if the H3G firmware I found on Sammobile.com has the feature or not.

Some posts earlier in this thread say they have WiFi calling working after flashing the Three firmware. This does not work on my LG G5, but you may be luckier with a Samsung phone.

I have a couple of Samsung Galaxy S7 edge duos dual-SIM phones in which I have SIMs from different network operators or MVNOs. One is usually a Three PAYG SIM and the other is a Virgin Mobile (now VMO2) contract SIM or other MVNO PAYG SIM.
I am in a poor signal area for all of the networks despite being in a built-up urban area of Aylesbury. I currently rely on a Home Signal unit from Three to cover that network but would prefer to use Wi-Fi Calling for all networks.
What do I do about the secondary network?
Which ROM firmware should I be using?
Why doesn't all firmware enable Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE for any network?
Ofcom have banned phones being locked to a network from December 2021 but the ban does not seem to cover these issues which are tantamount to locking a device to a network.
Ofcom needs to address these issues before the end of 2021 when some networks will have withdrawn support for their Home Signal type equipment and even 3G fallback for voice calls in 4G/5G coverage areas.

VoLTE or WiFi calling working on Redmi Note 7?

Using Redmi Note 7 Global version, 4G+64G, MIUI 10.3.2.0.
VoLTE
I entered *#*#86583#*#* and dialler confirms that VoLTE carrier check is disabled (test page 4636 also shows VoLTE provisioning is ON).
On different phones using same SIM, same location, I see "HD" icon confirming "HD calling", or "VoLTE" but NOT on my Note 7.
And no new android menu items about VoLTE have appeared.
So, at first glance it seems that VoLTE is not working.
HOWEVER If I make a call, the display continues to show "4G+" and data keeps streaming, so VoLTE must be working, right? or maybe not?
WiFi Calling
I entered *#*#869434#*#* and test page now confirms that WiFi calling provisioning is ON.
And yes, a new menu item appears SIM card settings, "Make calls via WiFi". (OK so far)
However when I enable WiFi and disable mobile signal with flight mode, I cannot make a call. Dialler tells me "mobile network isn't available. Connect to a wireless network to make a call".
Also if I go to an area with no mobile coverage (instead of flight mode), same error.
I believe that my carrier (Three UK) is supposed to support VoWiFi.
So is WiFi calling broken in MIUI 10.3.2.0 ?
There should be a VoLTE icon when you open the notification shade. Works well for me, even though I have the MIUI 10.3.2 EU ROM, and I had to enter the *# code in order to get it working and for the toggles to appear under SIM settings

Thanks for the reply. Hmm yes, that's what I expected, but icon is definitely not there.
It's especially strange since I have definitely had VoLTE with the same SIM successfully on different devices.
What do you make of my phone staying on 4G during a call, does that suggest VoLTE is actually working?
If your 4G icon doesn't change into 3G (H) while in a call, I'd say VoLTE is working for you. It might be that there is something missing in the VoLTE handshake between the carrier and the phone, not passing all the checks and resulting in the phone not detecting "full VoLTE connectivity" and not showing the icon. If a call to another phone also using VoLTE starts ringing really quickly, if the sound quality is really good and your phone shows that it's connected to a 4G network, that should be it. HD or VoLTE icon or not, the functionality is there.
You said the same SIM has had VoLTE on other phones, so the carrier side should be OK. Although I suppose there might be a device whitelist on the carrier side – there sure was one when VoLTE was first introduced, as not all VoLTE-enabled devices were eligible for the service. At least that's how it was in my neck of the woods. So if all else fails, you might want to verify that with your carrier.
On the Redmi Note 7 though, as I said, it required that I enter the *# code for VoLTE. After that, the VoLTE toggle appeared under SIM and wireless settings. I can't tell if the toggle was in the "off" position when it appeared, but I'm quite sure that right after seeing or switching the toggle, I checked the status bar for a new icon, and there it was. No restart was required. You could try re-entering the code and seeing if the toggle appears (as in the screenshot).
Your profile states that you're in a brexiting location, which makes me think – do you have the Global ROM or the EU ROM? My MIUI version says PFGEUXM and VoLTE has been known to be disabled or not working in certain editions of MIUI.
I enabled VoLTE toggle and also Calling over Wi-fi but when I try to make a call it won't work saying I need to establish a cellular network connection.
Is there a way to make it work?

Your mobile carrier needs to have VoLTE enabled on your account to make it fully work
use *#*#86583#*#* as ON/OFF switch !
===================================
use it once = it turn VoLTE "ON"
use it second time = make VoLTE "OFF".
For "Use Wi-Fi to make and receive calls" type *#*#869434#*#* once.
for turning "OFF" use the same code (*#*#869434#*#*) second time.
Easy-peasy !
(btw. I'm on MIUI Global 10.3.6, no root, original ROM)
@kljoki
I have it exactly like this. Because when it is deactivated you can't see toggle options in settings.
I am on MIUI Global 10.3.10 Stable PFGMIXM
So what am I doing wrong.
My provider O2 Telefonica is supporting Volte?

Sorry I'm on Xiaomi Note 7 .
( I think there is no help from my side.)
Has anyone got WiFi Calling to actually work?
If so which carrier are you using?
Have the feature activated but like the other poster, I cannot make calls over WiFi (T-Mobile) made wonder if there's any additional steps needed to activate the service
Could someone already test if VoWIFI is working with the Miui11 Beta versions, plz?
After updating to miui 11.0.4 wifi calling is not working .I have redmi note 7 .Its a bug .I have already sent a report to Xiaomi and waiting for answer

Did you already get any answer or news about it ?
Derpfast-Rom is unfortunately not updated any more - had VoWifi working...
Have a feeling they disabled it on purpose to not canabalize their higher end model sales.
It's been the same story since MIUI 10.3.5

I'm using latest crdroid with no success on this subject. BUT i use TIM Brazil carrier so i believe this is not a rom related issue, but a device+carrier issue.
VoLTE has worked great for me from the start. Had to enter the VoLTE code in the dialer to get the switch in the options to appear though.
VoWIFI - what's your motivation to use that? I have good coverage where I live and I'd rather have a real cell phone call than for it to go through my home or office wifi without QoS set up to prioritize voice calls.
is it right that vowifi doesnt work with miui 11.0.5 on my redmi note 7? VoLTE works?

Unfortunately I'm just having wifi during work inside my hospital.
Means I'm not getting any calls on my mobile as a backup. Quite disappointing. :/
Update:
By a HowTo in the german android-Forum I made it possible to activate VoWifi on my Redmi Note 7 , without rooting or bootloader unlocking.
Had to delete row_commercial profile and activated Commercial MTS for Telefonica in Germany.
Works perfectly -. @Antaril

Wow so you got it working?
Can you share the link to the German thread here?
I'm curious how they determined Row Commericial must be deleted.
That's what my phone defaulted to and showed as active under the Sub0 column when I connected it to PDC
