Decrypt is only required for stock rom, unless otherwise mentioned.
1) firmware
2) rom
3) magisk/SuperSU
4) gapps
5) decrypt
To flash decrypt, go back and mount vendor then flash decrypt otherwise your data will be encrypted and the only way to decrypt is to delete all of your data.
Having a backup of efs partition (imei) is always a good idea.

do you know anything about f2fs partition ? is it recommend to use in 2019 ?
Heard good things about it and want to use it but some bad things like quicker data corruption and slower data transfer speed after year or so makes me worried, share if you know anything.

I am currently using f2fs on havoc. Personally, I don't see much of a difference compared to ext4. Gamers will know better.

Hi community! I'm having a problem with my OP2, I currently have cyanogenmod installed on my OP2, and the version is from may-june? Not sure, but I want to upgrade to this rom here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-2/development/6-0-x-cyanogenmod-13-oneplus-2-t3292436
How would I go about doing that without messing anything up on my phone? I'm still very new to this stuff, any info will help.
Well, all you gotta do is follow installation instructions for any ROM. That means:
Boot into recovery
Wipe everything except internal memory.
Install ROM .Zip
Install Gapps .Zip
Install any other customizations/patch/SU-addon/etc.
Boot system. You may experience some bootloop the first time, it takes a few minutes to set up the entire ROM.
Also check from what OOS version are you coming. In this particular case, you may need to upgrade OOS atleast to 3.1 or 3.5.6. That can be done the same way.
And take a Nandroid and a Titanium (or whatever else) backup for your apps (or anything you want to survive wipes, except internal sdcard), because when you erase data, you will be losing them.
Best of luck.

This guy is correct. How ever if you make sure your on twrp 3.0.2.2 or what ever latest is. You can go in advanced wipe and clear system too. The quite frankly in. My experience I've never had to worry about what my preview OS was. Upgraded to nought with an empty system juts don't wipe internal lol
Although I believe new twrp has given us the usbC support now! Huzzah

Forgot about that. It's TWRP 3.0.2-2, which made this phone compatible with most marshmallow roms (and then wasn't needed an upgrade for nougat)
I mentioned the thing about previous OS because I don't remember when did OP release OTA to update phone to marshmallow, so I can't be sure.

First of all, you know that will trigger Knox and you will lose your warranty. There are some other implications of that, are you sure you've read them all? If you have no problems with those things, things are pretty much the same as on every other phone and twrp.
I know it will trigger Knox, and that's ok. This is a temporary device until Galaxy 8.
I put TWRP on the phone, now it won't boot, and got lots of words when trying to backup in TWRP.
That's why I asked.
what does it say when you try to back up.
You may have your phone encrypted that why the back up is not working.
You may need to remove the encryption to get it working properly.
You can also use smart switch to make a back up to be used in case of issues.

Do you need SU before no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.0.zip?
If I format data partition I can backup etc.
But I want to backup apps to!
So basically I want to install TWRP(and what's needed) and backup ROM with all apps. And then boot the ROM and run device as before.

First no verity and supersu after, according to the article. By formatting data you won't lose your apps, just data on sd card (internal memory). The rest is on system partition
On, last time, did I get this right, from stock rom, do this
Install TWRP, then SU (I don't want SU) backup, should this work? It's says lots of error in data...
So once again from clean, what do I have to do?
Install TWRP, then what? Want to backup all apps I mean a full NANDROID backup.
Still no, after TWRP it won't boot.
Directly after TWRP it's says something bad "/data"
Then tried to run run the decrypt, still no no
Please anyone, help, it won't boot after TWRP...

If you thought you could install twrp and do a backup of the stock phone you were wrong, twrp can't read the data partition since its encrypted, you have to format data and then you can do a backup, but since there's nothing there then there's no point.

I mean like i had selected my device as s7edge in xda app
Should i stay on that or because of the port i should change it to s8 for mods ?
Sorry if i didnt explained well.

it is not reccomended to do this (its called a dirty flash) you can choose to do this anyway when installing a custom ROM most of them come with an option in the AROMA installer letting you do a fresh wipe or "dirty flash" it will just install the ROM over your current leaving your settings/apps there. Or if there is no AROMA installer with the rom just dont do a wipe before you install. no need to restore using a backup
dirty flash should be fine if you are upgrading ROMS to a later version but you should always check the thread if that is okay. you may run into problems if its a huge update.

heres some info on EFS > http://www.naldotech.com/galaxy-s7-s7-edge-backup-restore-efs-imei-partition/
recovery is TWRP itself
system is the ROM
Data is your apps etc..
a standard backup is already seleted in TWRP which is
Boot / System / Data
you may as well backup EFS as well its only a few Kb

I have a few questions I'm new to the a/b partitions thing I've read the page on a/b partitions. But I'm still in the mud.
1 I'm on Verizon bootloader unlocked twrp 3.2.3-23 and magisk installed I have 9.0.11 installed twrp and magisk in slot a/b
now is it necessary to backup stock rom? If I install lets say crDroid in slot A install twrp installer I know twrp goes into both slots reboot back to recovery making sure I'm still in A install gapps and magisk reboot back to recovery making sure again I'm still in A slot then reboot to crDriod that should work yes?
2 Now If I wanted to go back to my stock rom witch is in B slot can I not reboot back to twrp and switch to slot B and go to stock?
Thanks guys this A/B partition is still clear as mudd
Making a back up is always recommend, but it's up to the user to decide if the want to or not. The down side is loosing all your data, so there is that.
The short answer to your 2nd question is no you can not dual boot ROMs on this device. I posed the same question in a different thread and you can read the explanation from Dark Nightmare here.

I'm new to A/B as well but have been flashing quite a bit. Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong. From what I've observed, ROMs are designed to flash to the slot you're not using and, on reboot, switch slots. TWRP zip installer is designed to install to both slots. Magisk and Gapps, however, install to the current slot. This means you should flash the ROM (which flashes to the non-active system and boot partitions and possibly others), flash the TWRP installer (which installs to both boot partitions, including the one that was just flashed). Then reboot back into recovery (which will be the other slot that the ROM was installed to), and then install all the other zips needed (i.e., Gapps, Magisk, etc...).
Switching A/B partitions in the TWRP reboot menu also triggers the partition switch after reboot, if needed. It doesn't seem to immediately switch before a reboot however, even though it gives that impression.

The data partition, which contains user apps and system and user app data, is not slotted. Moving back and forth between slots that share a common ROM type and are close in version might not pose a problem. But A/B slotting wasn't designed for switching Roms back and forth. It was designed to try to ensure that there is always a valid bootable ROM without regard to use data (i.e., potentially, after a factory-reset). Don't expect to boot up an AOSP modded ROM using the data and apps from an OygenOS ROM. Do a backup of all partitions to be safe (with the exception of system and vendor since system_image and vendor_image give a bit-for-bit copy, instead of file-for-file copy). Copy the TWRP directory to a computer afterward, if possible. Make sure to wipe data if flashing a ROM of a different type, not just a different version (after flashing everything but before initial system boot).

No. Except for the possible exception that both slots contain different versions of the same ROM, the data will work with one ROM but not the other.
When flashing a ROM in TWRP, just mke sure to make a nandroid backup first and follow the installation directions. If you have to switch back, you will need to flash the nandroid backup.
It is a pain and there are pitfalls. This phone is relatively new and this is the cost of flashing a custom ROM/bootloader.

Internal storage is an encrypted folder in the data partition that is wiped separately from data. As long as you don't wipe internal storage for any reason it should be ok, in theory. But it's not in practice.
Most of the problem with this phone is maintaining encryption back and forth between ROMs. Honestly, if you can't afford to lose data, don't try to flash ROM's yet. I have had very little luck flashing back and forth and, after reflashing data, being able to avoid a bootloop. TWRP has only supported encryption on this phone for a month or so and IMHO it's not ready for prime time. I have relied on Titanium Backup and moved it's backup folder back and forth between my phone and computer.

Didn't read the instructions very carefully, now did you? The very FIRST thing you need to do when booting to TWRP is to FORMAT THE DATA PARTITION. Not wipe, but FORMAT. The data partition is encrypted and TWRP can't read it. That is why everything looks weird. Also, that is why you need to backup any pictures, downloads or anyting else you want to save because formating the partition will erase EVERYTHING and not just system stuff that wiping deletes.

My post pointed out that formatting would erase everything and that you should backup prior to doing it. And there are several other methods of backing up data and apps besides TWRP. Yes, it leaves the data partition blank, but flashing a ROM and gapps will put the directories back. Of course, they will still be empty. If you used a Google Account, then that should have at least backed up your apps and some settings. When you setup a new ROM, it should let you restore them.
BTW, yes it was the first time it happened for most of us. Samsung keeps trying to improve "security" and adding encryption, by default, to the data partition is in all of their new tablets and phones.

You can't backup a stock ROM with TWRP because it can't handle the encryption. But you can use TWRP to root a stock ROM. In that case you just ignore the wierd internal data and put what you want to flash only on the external SD. IOW, if your reason for flashing TWRP is to use its backup function on a stock, don't bother, it won't work. But if your intent is to ROOT the stock ROM, then go ahead, but DON'T format data. Just put the files needed to root on the external SD and flash from there. You format the data partition in order to flash a custom ROM.
