Deleting /su/xbin_bind on SuperSu 2.62

I recently re-rooted my phone to install 6.0.1, and installed SuperSu 2.62 thinking it was systemless root. Android pay didn't work, so I re-downloaded Xposed. After reading that you need to delete the /su/xbin_bind folder to get Android Pay to work, I uninstalled Xposed (flashing the uninstaller) as well as Emoji Switcher (forums say it modifies /system) and set out to try it.
However, when I try to delete /su/xbin_bind, it says failed/cannot be deleted. I've tried with both ES File Explorer and Root Explorer. According to SuperSu, the only things left with root permissions are Nova Prime Launcher, Tasker, and AdAway. Any reason I can't seem to delete this file when everyone else can? I also tried temporary disabling SuperSu, but no go.
Edit: I am a moron. I didn't have root permissions for ES File Explorer, so I couldn't delete the folder. Added that and deleted no problem. Leaving my idiocy here in case anyone else runs into this problem.
So to clarify, if we want android pay to work we can't use xposed?

Giving Root Access?
How do you go about giving ES File Explorer root access? Usually that is an automatic question asked.
how important or whats the purpose of /su/xbin_bind ??
if its included on the SU install, and we delete it... im trying to gauge if we are damaging something since it was meant to be there....

Some apps don't ask for root by default, and only do so when you tell them you want to enable the features that require root. ES File Explorer is one such app, and to enable root features you have to open the side menu and toggle the option.
IMO this is the way all apps should be, as I don't always need the root features of every app, as it adds a security risk. I like how BoldBeast Call Recorder does this for example.

It's a compatability mode that was automatically enabled for a while in older SuperSu.zips to allow developer's apps to work until they update their app to work with systemless root. It is now disabled by defult in newer SuperSu.zips, with the user having to explicitly enable it for its use.
Some apps that requires this to work (becuse they haven't updated their app to work with systemless yet) include:
- Secure Settings
- Es File Explorer.
Etc.Etc.
Hope this helps clarify things for you

Adaway fails to find su binary on Moto x style (pure)

I have rooted almost every phone I've had and have always used the same rom, superuser app, etc. I recently switched from dirty unicorns 6.0 to aicp 7.0 because of an Android os problem. I have both SuperSU & magisk manager apps and binaries installed ( both came with rom for some reason and can't get rid of either, didn't mind too much) and when I open adaway it asks for superuser permissions and I grant it, then another window will pop up saying it can't find the su binary or I didn't grant it root access. I went through some other forums and tried using a terminal emulator to be able to rewrite system, But came back with saying "there is no such file or directoryā€¯. I then tried installing "mount /system ro/re (root)" from the play store, it said it was successful. So I tried adaway again and still says the same thing. Any other ideas?
Magisk has own "hosts", you don't need adaway. @as.hs

I checked magisk and I see what you are saying (I think) and checked the option but it says it doesn't get rid of ads, it just supports adblocker apps, does that mean I still don't need an adblocker?
I'm using AdClear app, it does the work for me. Also we can select individual app in which we want ads blocked

Systemless Adaway With Magisk

Systemless Adaway With Magisk
Can anyone help me with this i already have a working magisk safetynet and everything.... but i need the adaway this is the reason i root my phone but i dont want to loose ota
thanks
1. In Magisk Manager settings enable 'Systemless hosts'.
2. Reboot.
3. Install AdAway. Do not change the 'Target hosts file' setting in AdAway (/system/etc/hosts).

So, just to be 100% clear, once Systemless hosts is enabled and you reboot, when the system thinks it is working with /system/etc/hosts, it is in fact working with a magisk hosts file?

Yup. As long as the option is enabled in Magisk. I've tested this out myself.
Just install unified Hosts AdBlock Module from the magisk download list, it has a gui now, no need to use terminal anymore, no need to install adaway.

If using this module, do we still need to enable systemless
hosts option in magisk setting?
Edit: Ok, the module instruction said it has to be enabled.
Edit1: It's so much easier to use AdAway :silly:
I've had problems with Magisk/Adaway and SafetyNet on Nougat:
I had no SafetyNet issues, then I activated the 'Systemless hosts' option in Magisk, installed Adaway and downloaded the hosts to the standard path (/system/etc/hosts), which - afaik - at that time should have been 'overmounted' (is that an english term?) with /Magisk/.core/hosts.
Unfortunately it didn't work and I lost SafetyNet (but also the ads, though).
No I updated to Oreo, have Magisk systemless root with SafetyNet compatibility restored and want to try my luck with Adaway again. But I'm a bit afraid of just doing the above steps again. Is there a way to check if Magisks systemless host feature works? Like a symlink in the shell or something?
Thanks a lot for your help, much appreciated!
Imho, As long as the ads are being blocked and safetynet passed, then all is working as they should
Thanks for your reply wulfe13.
Yes, of course, in that case I'd be happy.
But like I said (or tried to say), I didn't pass SafetyNet test...

Strange.
Are you using Xposed on your device?
Nope. No Xposed at the time of the Adaway activation.
Well, maybe I'll just give it a try again...
edit: and it worked! Adblocker + SafetyNet
[Deleted]
It worked for me too on Oreo.
I just enabled the systemless adblock option in Magisk Manager. Then installed AdAway.
Ad blocker is working and SafetyNet passes.

The module installs a apk for controlling, if not u use a old version. Install it from the downloads which are avaible in the magisk apk and you're good and have the apk installed too.
So on magisk 16.7 i enabled systemless hosts -> restart -> Installed Unified Hosts adblock module from the magisk app -> restart -> opened "bs.to" in chrome -> still see porn ads.
What did i do wrong?

Bromite Webview in OOS: Modify framework-res.apk?

Hi,
I've been looking into how to get Bromite Webview as Android Webview. I'm using xXx Nolimits to remove most gapps. As a consequence the android system webview is broken. It can be fixed by installing android system webview from the play store. However I'd like to use Bromite instead (search "bromite" "Installing-SystemWebView" - I haven't posted enough to include links yet).
In order for that to work, it seems there needs to be a key in framework-res.apk identifying com.android.webview as one of the sanctioned webviews. Unfortunately it isn't there. com.google.android.webview *is* and I think that's why the play store installation works.
I'm wondering whether framework-res.apk can be modified to include com.android.webview, and whether that would let Bromite Webview be used if the play store android webview isn't installed.
Anyone understand framework-res.apk and/or knows how to safely modify it?
Google "Nanolx download." They have a separate bromite system webview zip you can flash. It may work, although I have not tried myself. I was able to use it successfully on my old Moto G5+ to do what you want.
I removed every gapps from ES file manager, it was the same issue webview was broken but in magisk there is zip it worked fine for me:good:

Try going to Lucky patcher or similar defreezing app and enable the package... Goodluck...
All I can find for lucky patcher is a shady app to bypass paying for apps and some other shady sites promising they aren't malware.
With my particular set up it appears Bromite just is not feasible.
The Magisk module does not work.
I am missing the required file to install via TWRP.
It is not built into the xXx module.
Thanks for the replies.

Bromite module for magisk can't be flashed with twrp coz it download the correct package real time, guess you had ran out of luck...
Right.
Those were 2 different installs. The Bromite wiki has I structions for a TWRP install, but it say if you are misiing this file "whateveritwas" this method will not work
The.magisk module I stalled but would not work due to what appears to be a bug in his last release.
Installing Bromite apk won't change default perferred webview engine. You will need to decompile (not just unzip) framework-res.apk with some tool (I recommend APK easy tool, search for it). And inside /res/xml/config_webview_packages.xml you would like to change preferred webview engine to Bromite's apk class name (APK easy tool could read that too). Next you should compile your modified framework-res.apk and find the way to inject it in your system (I prefer Magisk for that). Also you would want to disable original chrome package.

YT213AJ - Adaway stuck on Building hosts file.

Android head unit YT213AJ.
Not sure what version android these HUs really running. I think Andoird 6?
Anyway, I'm rooted with magisk installed. Had to install Adaway 4.3.6 since this is pre Android 8.
Says updates available but just stays on Building hosts file. Adaway is granted super user rights.
I have enabled systemless hosts in magisk and adaway settings. No luck
Disabled systemless hosts. mounted /system rw. changed /system/etc/hosts to rw rw rw. Same results. No go.
Has anyone got adaway working on one of these head units?
