Hi,
I've been looking into how to get Bromite Webview as Android Webview. I'm using xXx Nolimits to remove most gapps. As a consequence the android system webview is broken. It can be fixed by installing android system webview from the play store. However I'd like to use Bromite instead (search "bromite" "Installing-SystemWebView" - I haven't posted enough to include links yet).
In order for that to work, it seems there needs to be a key in framework-res.apk identifying com.android.webview as one of the sanctioned webviews. Unfortunately it isn't there. com.google.android.webview *is* and I think that's why the play store installation works.
I'm wondering whether framework-res.apk can be modified to include com.android.webview, and whether that would let Bromite Webview be used if the play store android webview isn't installed.
Anyone understand framework-res.apk and/or knows how to safely modify it?
Google "Nanolx download." They have a separate bromite system webview zip you can flash. It may work, although I have not tried myself. I was able to use it successfully on my old Moto G5+ to do what you want.
I removed every gapps from ES file manager, it was the same issue webview was broken but in magisk there is zip it worked fine for me:good:

Try going to Lucky patcher or similar defreezing app and enable the package... Goodluck...
All I can find for lucky patcher is a shady app to bypass paying for apps and some other shady sites promising they aren't malware.
With my particular set up it appears Bromite just is not feasible.
The Magisk module does not work.
I am missing the required file to install via TWRP.
It is not built into the xXx module.
Thanks for the replies.

Bromite module for magisk can't be flashed with twrp coz it download the correct package real time, guess you had ran out of luck...
Right.
Those were 2 different installs. The Bromite wiki has I structions for a TWRP install, but it say if you are misiing this file "whateveritwas" this method will not work
The.magisk module I stalled but would not work due to what appears to be a bug in his last release.
Installing Bromite apk won't change default perferred webview engine. You will need to decompile (not just unzip) framework-res.apk with some tool (I recommend APK easy tool, search for it). And inside /res/xml/config_webview_packages.xml you would like to change preferred webview engine to Bromite's apk class name (APK easy tool could read that too). Next you should compile your modified framework-res.apk and find the way to inject it in your system (I prefer Magisk for that). Also you would want to disable original chrome package.

OK, so I've got 5.0 on my N10, and I'm rooted. Two problems I'm having regarding F-Droid and AdAway:
- After installing F-Droid, no applications display in the F-Droid "Available" list.
- Since I couldn't install AdAway through F-Droid, I installed the apk, and get this error trying to enable blocking: " Not enough space on partition! Try changing the target hosts file in preferences to /data/data/hosts". I changed the host file location as indicated, then when I tried again I got a "Symlink missing" error: "Symlink from your target to /system/etc/hosts is not existing or incorrect! AdAway will not work if it is not pointing to the right file"
So- I'm guessing both of these apps will need updates to be useful with 5.0? Anyone have an AdAway success story?
P.S. One bit of good news: Muzei now works on my N10. I could never get it to work on KitKat.

Same here. Really sucks
---------- Post added at 07:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:22 AM ----------
Ok it seems I've fixed by deleting an app under /system/app. I chose an unused keyboard and then re installed adaway and busybox. Then it worked
There's indeed critically low free space. Can't even install busybox after rooting: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-10/help/5-0-lack-free-space-install-busybox-t2939729
The trick with deleting apps from /system/app works obviously, until you decide to accept new OTA.
Yeah I know. I will crosss that bridge when I get there
Just couldn't live without adaway.
For the time being, I'm solving it by CWM tar+gzip backup of stock (deleting data.* from backup folder (to save the space)) and deleting some of the apps (like Korean keyboard etc.). When OTA comes, I'll restore the /system partition and proceed with update.
I'd like to know a better solution though... If there is any.
Are there any partition resizers available for Android? Or would it require an Fdisk delete and create?

Mr. Khaon, happy Friday - I found this thread from a google search after i downloaded F-Droid and it was shooting blanks - nothing.
Would you mind provided some additional detail on the "easy workaround" you mentioned? i.e. what "help" should I read, which settings do you change the path, etc.
Thanks.

Trick to get play store and root on Phoenix OS 2.0.0
After installation replace system.IMG in phoenix os directory with this: https://mega.nz/#!rYBRlbLY]https://mega.nz/#!rYBRlbLY
Decryption key: 4x2UmG4Xq0r96u_7h_PwfqC5OjQNHR_Gv88fIL1d2BA
Extract it using any zip or 7z software
then download MicroG apps from here and install them all except MicroG store: https://microg.org/download.html
Give root access.
Then download google play store from here: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-...-apk-download/
Rename play store.apk to Phonesky.apk
After that download lucky patcher from here: MOD Edit :-Links Removed as per Rule 6. Do Not Post or Request Warez. XDA Forum Rules
Now install google play store as normal apk.
Then open settings, go to accounts, add account, google.
Sign in into it.
After that open lucky patcher and give root permission and click on rebuild and install below.
Then go to downloads and select the play store apk (Phonesky.apk) and install it as system app and reboot.
After reboot open play store and use it.
Will try to make it more simple ASAP
How can i get root permission?
On phoenixos release it doesn't have root access
Have your system image root access?
Hi
The file is not on MEGA (file no longer exist). Can you reup please?
Thanks
Almost there. I dont get the second last step "...and click on rebuild and install below". Where is "rebuild" option ?
Edit: Also I wasn't able to sign in after installing play store the first time, it just hung on "Just a sec...".

Don't wait anymore. visit their website you will have the solution.:good:
Well this solution works but you get msg from YouTube or twitch telling you need play services. I think microg is not 100% compatible with all apps.
Here is what you can do assuming you're rooted:
install lucky patcher, download from apkmirror playservices and framework compatible with your hardware, run lucky and click on rebuild, go to your download folder, click on playservices and choose install as normal APK, not system app, don't reboot yet, choose now framework and install as system app, reboot and login to your account. I used it also with latest 7.1 64b.. Enjoy
Systemless Adaway With Magisk
Can anyone help me with this i already have a working magisk safetynet and everything.... but i need the adaway this is the reason i root my phone but i dont want to loose ota
thanks
1. In Magisk Manager settings enable 'Systemless hosts'.
2. Reboot.
3. Install AdAway. Do not change the 'Target hosts file' setting in AdAway (/system/etc/hosts).

So, just to be 100% clear, once Systemless hosts is enabled and you reboot, when the system thinks it is working with /system/etc/hosts, it is in fact working with a magisk hosts file?

Yup. As long as the option is enabled in Magisk. I've tested this out myself.

If using this module, do we still need to enable systemless
hosts option in magisk setting?
Edit: Ok, the module instruction said it has to be enabled.
Edit1: It's so much easier to use AdAway :silly:
I've had problems with Magisk/Adaway and SafetyNet on Nougat:
I had no SafetyNet issues, then I activated the 'Systemless hosts' option in Magisk, installed Adaway and downloaded the hosts to the standard path (/system/etc/hosts), which - afaik - at that time should have been 'overmounted' (is that an english term?) with /Magisk/.core/hosts.
Unfortunately it didn't work and I lost SafetyNet (but also the ads, though).
No I updated to Oreo, have Magisk systemless root with SafetyNet compatibility restored and want to try my luck with Adaway again. But I'm a bit afraid of just doing the above steps again. Is there a way to check if Magisks systemless host feature works? Like a symlink in the shell or something?
Thanks a lot for your help, much appreciated!
Imho, As long as the ads are being blocked and safetynet passed, then all is working as they should
Thanks for your reply wulfe13.
Yes, of course, in that case I'd be happy.
But like I said (or tried to say), I didn't pass SafetyNet test...

Strange.
Are you using Xposed on your device?
Nope. No Xposed at the time of the Adaway activation.
Well, maybe I'll just give it a try again...
edit: and it worked! Adblocker + SafetyNet

It worked for me too on Oreo.
I just enabled the systemless adblock option in Magisk Manager. Then installed AdAway.
Ad blocker is working and SafetyNet passes.

The module installs a apk for controlling, if not u use a old version. Install it from the downloads which are avaible in the magisk apk and you're good and have the apk installed too.
So on magisk 16.7 i enabled systemless hosts -> restart -> Installed Unified Hosts adblock module from the magisk app -> restart -> opened "bs.to" in chrome -> still see porn ads.

Yesterday, I installed PhoenixOS v2.5.9.375 on an old laptop, and I must say that I really like the Android experience on a laptop that I thought was too old to be good for anything. One problem that I am having though is that I cannot update Google Play Services which is preventing some of the GApps that I want to use from working. I tried using the instructions in this thread to fix the problem, but sadly they do not work with this version of the OS, and I get an error message saying "App not installed" when I try to fix it this way. I also so this, which looked promising until I learned that it requires a dual boot into Windows, and I am using PhoenixOS exclusively on my laptop, meaning that this is ruled out as an option.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I am having the same issue with my Google Play Services, but the one I provided in the thread works with Google Play Games at least. I wonder why Phoenix OS comes with version number beginning with 070... This version is for x86 and for Android 4.0+ nodpi (according to apkmirror). Shouldn't Phoenix OS come with 270 or 480 since Phoenix OS 64-bit runs on Android 7.1.1 (32-bit runs on 5.1)? If so, my instinct is telling me that we have to forcefully install the updated Google Play Services (probably along with Google Play Store and Google Services Framework) to get it working correctly. This cold probably be done with root, so at least we know we can fully root the OS and work our way from there.
I have that problem also before... I downloaded the updated Google Play service in apkmirror, tried to manually installed it but still it wont install... But what I did in order to fix it is first to disable the Play Service on the App Settings and then I use Root Explorer to locate the location of the Gplayservice which is /system/priv-app/GmsCore. so what I did i rename the GPlayService that I downloaded into GmsCore.apk and then replace the app on /system/priv-app/GmsCore and change permission to "rw-r-r". and re-enabling back the GPlayService on that App Settings and reboot.... at Viola its fix... now I dont have an error on it anymore...

Hi all,
This is how I got it working, several ways actually:
Using the toolkit http://bbs.phoenixstudio.org/en/showthread.php?tid=9661
Extract the system.img from the downloaded installation EXE or copy the system.img from your install directory
Make sure you download the GAPPS7.1 in the above post and put it in the \tools directory of the toolkit
Follow the toolkit to unpack/update GAPPS/repack
Copy the system.img back to your installed directory (C:\PhoenixOS)
Hacking it yourself
Download the latest GAPPS 7.1 PICO
Replace the APK in the GAPPS package over the ones installed on your PhoenixOS
Does this method require you to have a dual boot setup? Because I don't.
Android PC tool works!!
Used the PC tool and it worked flawlessly. On another note i have been trying to tinker with the OS and found out that the system cannot be mounted as r/w. Tried the command
Code:
su mount -o rw,remount /system
which gives me /dev/loop0 is write-protected mounting read-only. Is there any way fix to this.

As current and all previous Magisk releases can break any fire tv on update from manager, I made custom build of Magisk 25.1 for Fire TV
Releases GitHub URL
Changes:
- Manager doesn't have direct install / update options
- Dark theme by default
- Amazon orange color for default and AMOLED themes
- Grant root permission by default
- Fix issue of enabled Zygisk with Xposed Framework
- Change version to 25.1.FTV (25777)
Fixes:
- fix D-PAD navigation on Grant / Deny root dialog
- fix D-PAD navigation on Log section
- fix D-PAD navigation on Zygisk DenyList
- fix D-PAD navigation on Reboot button after flash
Install:
- Install APK (uninstall previous Manager version if exist 1st),
- Rename apk to zip and flash from TWRP recovery
Have fun!

You need to uninstall Manager in any case because app signature differs. After install you need o flash apk renamed to zip from recovery to match daemon / apk signatures. Magisk in 1s post updated to v25.0.FTV.

Yes, probably it's some kind of bug in Magisk. When hiding, Magisk replaced with stub app, which download full apk from https://github.com/tsynik/Magisk/releases, but failing to load it's classes and initialize app context.

I have a tank (2nd gen stick) with latest firmware (5.2.9.5 at time of writing)
Now that Magisk v26 has dropped support for android 5, it would be wise to release a final version for old fire sticks.
Anyway the UI does not start at all, both on your fork and on the original v25.2 . (and, both of them do not remember superuser permissions - they get asked every time)
I just tried to flash Magisk v26.1 via TWRP. FireOS6 (mantis - FTV4K)
First fresh Kernel followed by Magisk v26.1.zip.
All seams to work but I noticed that the repacking step went unusual fast!
After rebooting and updating Magisk app to v26.1 it seams to work.
But now I get after a fresh start/reboot a warning message in Magisk app that an reflash is necessary!
I now went back to 25.2 (again Kernel + Magisk.zip) and all is good again.
I do not know what happens here or if something went wrong or if 26.1 is not fully compatibe to FireOS6 (Android 7)...
Anyway - Just wanted to let you all know.
