Hi guys just want to ask in terms of performance and battery usage
what stock rom is recommended?
next question : best rom for korean variant?
For me it's definitely Android Pie 9.0 running it on a H870.
I factory reset, put animation to 0.5x and disabled location service.
Get easy trough the day with 3h sot and 50% left.
Of course all of it depends on your usage.
Camera still needs a lot of battery ?
For me they were identical
Slight software improvements here and there
but the speed and battery life was the same in all 3 versions
9.0 definitely. Smooth, energy efficient and one biggest improvement for me : Captune application form Sennheiser is finally working like it should. It was very unstable (basically unusable) under 8.0
For me 9.0 is a bit choppy after all updates installed and the phone went idle. But now i have oneplus 7 pro so yeah...

I want to hear the experiences you guys have with emui vs cm13.
At some points i always wonder if i should flash back to emui because of a few bugs and problems so i wanna hear a few experiences to see what you guys think about it.
- generally speaking i would love to hear what you like in comparision to the other
- how's your battery life, usage experience, how you think about the current bugs, etc.
- are you thinking to change rom to emui or to cm13 and why?
cm gives a more stock experience compared to emui, better battery life. unless youre going to update to emui 5, cm is better

With papsi ROM everything is fine by battery life is miserable with an outdoor brightness and mobile data on (only few hours).
Speedo; very descent battery life , zooming is fine but video recording is not, still buggy and finger print not working
Till now I think the best available firmware is stock but if speedo_thc managed to get his ROM as functioning as papsi's he will be the best daily driver for me.

papsi's isn't that bad on battery life for me. i get two days usage with constant bt connections and a few messengers push. you will have monitor wakelocks and stuff to optimize as much as possible though.
i am using
- amplify (no donate)
- greenify with xposed + root
but have 3 messengers, email and android wear on push at all times.
Cm notifications fixed emui not
cm's will always break after few months of heavy using, stock wont. sure cm has more customizeable tweaks and in some cases better battery life (never in my cases). evey device i have tried cm it always starts randomly rebooting, lagging and eats battery like hell(hahe had this issue with multiple devices). i prefer stock base and then rethemed to whatever you choose.
Currently, no custom rom is stable enough for daily use. I still love the EMUI camera and the finger print gestures. I will stick with EMUI 4 for now hopefully until custom roms are more stable and fully functional.
I've used papsi's rom for a few weeks as a daily. So far the only downside to me, is the battery life compared to stock emui.
Papsi's cm13 is better than stock EMUI on almost every points except the battery. I'm using his rom since he published it and it's pretty stable but the battery life can be a deal breaker. Some optimization would make the rom great for daily usage.

I agree with you, i would use his rom but the problems with the camera and battery life and the phone getting too hot when playing games or watching videos is what keeps me on EMUI since i never had issues with notifications.
Hi guys,
I started this thread because i want to know about your experience regarding the performance/smoothness/battery life of our Mi5s with the 8.1 Oreo ROMS available.
I only tried PixelExperience ROM and overall it's very good. But it just doesn't feel as smooth as latest stable MIUI 9 for example. The latest stable 9.2.1.0 is really smooth, but battery life is not great. With PixelExperience I encoutered constant micro stutterings in the overall fluidity and battery life was pretty much the same as with MIUI.
So i ask you: Which is the best 8.1 ROM regarding smoothness and battery life in your oppinion? Maybe it's a combo of a ROM and a custom Kernel?
Thank you
I think it's too early to say which one is the best. For practically all so far released have the same problem. In my case it is from time to time the touch gets half dragged and the home and auxiliary buttons stop working. The most recent migrations of the last update of the lineage are with a better deep sleep, but at a great expense during the use, even only using wifi, the spending is the same as spent using 4G networks. But for me, the ones I tested have the same problem on the touch and auxiliary and home buttons.

What can you tell me about smoothness from your experience?
In all that I tested, which was the pixel experience, Lineage 15 and AOKP, presented the same problem during use. During use, for example, of the telegram, in some moments the touch was half dragged and the buttons home, back and applications remained unresponsive during this time that was of a few seconds. In those moments the act of turning the screen off and on again, the device was once again functional. The touch returned to its smoothness and the buttons came back on. I am currently using miui 9 beta Brasil and these problems do not occur.

I never encountered this issue with PixelExperience. Did you clean flashed? Also did you ensured to have latest firmware installed?
I personally switched back to MIUI stable because it is the most fluid ROM for Mi5s.
I am using AEX with Floppy Kernel

Always the same for me whatever ROM I use.
The best SOT was with a LOS15.1 from january 2, maybe because then I did not use titaniumbackup.
Battery life is pretty good with the latest LOS 15.1 if you also use ForceDoze (which sometimes get's it root access disabled after an update, so periodically check), and let the privacy guard do it's thing. For me this ROM also has proven to be the most stable with the latest iterations. Also, don't forget to update the firmware once in a while (https://github.com/fjtrujy/capricornCNFirmware/releases).
I am on Validus and vouch for its smoothness, fast and fluid. I tried most of the Oreo ROMs, but this one I get best battery without any battery optimization app or tweaks.
To me, i use atomic rom, from 5 am to noon, i only use 20% battery with data on, some report that they left the phone overnight and only use 4% battery, cheers
Any updates on this, new experiences?
About smooth... I can sure all rom 8.x are smooth now...
But about battery i trust only rom "pixel experience "
Why
Because some rom i test (rr, aex, los,...) have a problem with gov. Try run fb about 10minute then open "ex kernel manager" u will see small core only run with 2 clock speed (300mhz and 1.5ghz... Others clock run but only 1-2s in total 10' ) -this not good... Only pixel rom run small to high with true value cpu clock speed need to make app run smooth without no lag.
Using latest AEX 5.5 and my battery goes pretty fast with mobile data on...
With mobile data off i think i might get 2.5 - 3 hours screen on time and about 24 hours battery life on a single charge.
Which one is best for smooth gaming?
For now I am on ABC ROM oreo with Franco kernel, and having ok battery life getting probably around 12-16% drain per hour of use on screen time (fk kernel manager battery monitor) However I want to have best possible battery life.
Don't really care if missing some features, or security wise if that's so important.
Would downgrading from Oreo to instead Nougat, or Marshmallow be smart battery wise?
If I go to Nougat I will fix purenexus rom of course, but unsure if going from 8.1.0 (Oreo) to a lower android version would help getting the battery even better?
Ive been trying to go down that road myself. currently trying CHROMA, (MM) been going pretty well... Sots been better than oreo, but its deepsleep hasnt so ive been trying to fix that.
btwwithout detracting from the developers,
I found on the web people who say can be that examples the gizrom30s android6 (fast and fluidity without a hitch) can drain more because a stock chinese rom android6 ,
a born stock type 30s chinese rom android6 with its ecosystem, , could drain less than the gizrom30s android6 due to the fact that it was not in any way '' distorted '' by the put and take off that is performed on the roms like the gizrom30s ???
I ask if someone has tested chinese stock rom vs gizrom (or another similar android 6 rom ) with the same apps, the same settings and what you have sincerely found as battery life in terms of sot (screen on time)

For me the Stock debloated rom is the best on the pro 3.
All others have something wrong with them
Stock 21s is my preference

I have not tested side-by-side but I am running a 8.1 based version of AICP. It works well and I can leave my phone hanging around as a hotspot for up to 2 days or so without it running dry. It replaced a 7.0 version of Resurrection Remix. It also worked well. The main reason I ditched the stock ROM was compatibility issues, most importantly it would not operate correctly with the Bluetooth connection to my car Android head unit. Both AICP and RR have proven much less finicky and more reliable and compatible. For me anyway, the stock ROM was less reliable than others.
There are so many variables with SOT and battery life that, yes, for how you use it battery life could be easily reduced or increased by almost any ROM. AICP lasts a long time for how I use it.
Android 10, One UI 2.0 (beta) has been out for a while. I can understand that the software can be buggy. Still, it would be nice if someone could post their experiences about the battery life on the beta update.
I am currently on ASIG, september update, and believe the battery life was better on previous build.
Someone please share battery life experiences from Android 10, One UI 2.0.
My battery life is significantly worse. I've always had questionable standby drain but it seems worse. Also general use drains the battery more. The fact that they changed device care into worse doesn't help at all.
It's not great. And the way battery usage info has been reworked is awful, it's convoluted and difficult to understand compared to the way it was in pie.
If you use the U1 firmware the battery life is great. You do have to have a clen install (factory reset) but you can restore a smart switch backup no problem. The carrier (U) firmware version has really bad battery life though. So if you really want to use the beta flash U1 firmware BSIC, make a smart switch backup, apply update.zip from external sd card in recovery, and restore with the smart switch backup.

So the removal of some device features and the overall worse battery life have lead me to installing BetterBatteryStats, with which I noticed that samsung cloud and com.process.media along with system (this I suppose is normal). Here is a screenshot:
Thanks a lot for your feedback.

In my use I have noticed great autonomy especially to play it no longer heats up in pubg Mobile and it gives me up to 5 hours of play with a 100% load and is more fluid, consumes less when you are not using, I have obtained up to 8 hours of active screen in multimedia and social media playback
My battery life is great improved on the beta. Normally I get 3hrs SOT, been getting closer to 5-6hr SOT with the Beta, location and GPS are always on also use spotify over bluetooth for 8hrs or longer every day.
Thanks all for your feedback
