Restore ALL programs and data - Galaxy S5 to Galaxy S7 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

My daily driver is a rooted Galaxy S5. I use Titanium Backup to backup progs and data to SDCard. Also have "moved" many programs to SDCard to run. I'm looking to purchase a new Galaxy S7 (eBay) for Verizon (locked?) and want the abililty to restore ALL progs and data. Many of my progs are NOT the current APKs from the play store, and wish to keep it that way. Want to run either Android 7 or Android 8 on the S7. I only need root at this point to restore TB backup. Other backup/restore methods are limited. Have read many of the threads and posts re: root of Galaxy S7.
Looking for the easiest method to root and restore. Would like to be able to update Android at a later time without having to perform a clean flash. Advice and recommendations are appreciated.

There are two kinds of backup/restore...
One backs up the actual firmware/rom the other kind of backup backs up applications
which are installed in your phone.
The best for application backup/restore "Titanium Backup" (it does backup game and application data)
The best way to backup your entire firmware/rom is by using TWRP recovery.
Twrp can be installed using "goomanager" a app which you can download from playstore,
Titanium backup is also an app you can download from the playstore.
Good luck!

Migratation from rooted Galaxy S2[android2.3] to non-rooted Galaxy S5[android4.4.2]

TLDR - rooted Samsung Galaxy S 2 android 2.3, I need apps' data backed up and restored on a non-rooted Samsung Galaxy S 5 android 4.4.2.
This is what I have tried so far:
I have Titanium on the older android, so its easy enough to back up everything that I want,
but since Titanium demands root and I have no desire to root my newer android (because I actually want to keep the warranty for a change)
I can not unpack my backups using Titanium on the newer device.
So I googled a little and found a great backup app called Helium (previously carbon) that can restore backups WITH DATA
on non-rooted devices with android 4 and higher. Looked perfect at first,
only catch is that it can only be installed on android 4 and higher, so it is useless for me for creating the backups on the first place on the older device.
Then I thought of combining Titanium and Helium this way:
I needed something that could restore Titanium backups (meaning having root)
and also being able to create Helium backups (meaning being android 4 and higher), so for this purpose
I added a new Android VM to my genymotion on my PC, it was a rooted android 4.4.
Then I successfully installed Helium on that VM, but when I tried to launch it I got the following popup message:
"Unfortunately, Helium has stopped."
Thought it was a bad rom, so I tried on newly created 4.3 and 4.1 but still got the same results.
Then I thought, these are my options:
1. Try a different android VM environment, maybe genymotion is too much under-developed for Helium (for example Helium needs usb communication to a 3rd party machine running a desktop application - I don't know if genymotion supports that virtual usb connection).
2. Try googling a different android backup app, that have both the Helium ability (restore backups WITH DATA on android 4 without root) and the Titanium ability (create backups on rooted android 2.3).
3. Research how to convert Titanium backup files to Helium format...
At this point, I felt like I have spent too much time and energy on this thing and for sure the solution exists and other people might know better then me.
So please, if you can help me, please do.
If your S2 is rooted, why not just flash to 4.1.2, restore from Titanium, and then create a backup with Helium? You can use Neat ROM.

Because some apps stop working properly or at all after I switch roms (worst case scenario I might attempt some sort of manual transfer of data)
I found a non-perfect solution which does not work very good so far (tried restoring a few apps, it failed installing them or the data restore did not restore any data)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.at.free
its not very good, but its the first one I have found which says it is able to restore data on non root and create backups on android 2.3.
I need something else.

[Q] Please, Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 (uk) Root, Titanium Backup and Link2SD issues

Hi
Please help if you can.
I have a new Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 (T330) uk tablet. I also have a huge folder of backup apps from my sons Nabi2 using titanium backup. I just want to put them on the new tablet.
I tried rooting using this thread: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61421937&postcount=4) but it didnt seem to work, it patched ok through Odin but then when I boot to recovery there is no TWRP to use to install the supersu zip file, so it didnt go anywhere.
So
Instead I tried CF Autoroot and it seemed to work perfect.
I did make sure to use the 4.4etc version and not the NU American version, so I believe the file was the correct one for T330
I then installed Titanium backup, its pro key, link2sd and its pro key.
The link2sd aspect seems to work perfect so thats not an issue, all setup as per the Nabi2 and seems fine.
But when I try the restore from Titanium Backup, it gets a little way in and hangs. I tried setting the preference handling to indirect but doesnt help. I do apps only (no data) and doesnt help. Also, some of the time it hangs on different apps, so its not the app causing problems I dont think. I also disabled market link, no help.
So any thoughts on the problem or solution please?
Is it that the backups were from a different tablet, eg the Nabi2? (Reading online suggests moving apps without data across platforms is fine)
or
Is it a bad rom from the CF Autoroot? Any way I can try the original link (which might have failed because mine is the Euro version of the tablet?) instead to do the twrp root?
or
Do I have a bad Titanium backup version form play store right now?
Just dont know.
Also, another complication:
My backup apps total 850 (yes I know its a lot but my son loves them and his autism will not let any be deleted) and I did try install them all in one go from the play store and it seemed to work but on a reboot it hanged, bricked, so I had to re flash original firmware back to factory. Seeing as the slower, smaller 8GB nabi2 has no problem holding the 850 apps so I would be surprised if it turns out to be breaking the limit of the Galaxy Tab 4, but is this possible? There is plenty of internal and SD memory free after the install.
Trying to restore backups to the tablet memory before later moving with link2sd also hangs, so to be that rules out link2sd being the problem.
Please any help? Anything would be appreciated.
My thanks for reading
Alex
PS: I did think that swapping his Nabi2 for a more well known widespread tablet such as the Galaxy Tab would be a good idea as the Nabi2 is getting more scarce, but it seems to have turned into an unexpected nightmare.

[Q] Using Titanium Backup Pro to Restore data from my S6. Then maybe freeze stuff?

Ok, so just wanted to check with others here who have used TB for a long time. I do have the pro version. I am just used to being rooted before I restore between one phone to another.
So I have my backups from my S6 and I want to move them over to my S8 now. Cept S8 isnt rooted. Anyone know any potential issues with the new version of android and TB or anything for me to make note of before just blind restoring?
Also The freeze and chuck norris mode. Anyone tried TB for blocking OTA and other bloatware yet on their S8?
Thanks.
There's no root on the s8 so no one tried anything yet, you can try using smart switch to see if it'll move apps with data or use helium since it can handle data also.
Moving apps and data is generally just a recipe for trouble. People often find that things crash or use loads of battery power for no reason when moving apps and settings. It MIGHT work ok, but the safest way to guarantee no hard to diagnose issues is to let the play store reinstall the apps and data that it has saved and then manually reinstall the rest.
Well with TB Restore. Did it HAVE to be rooted to work? Thats the part I cant remember.

It happened the same to me with other phones, I can give you a recommendation:
Try only to Backup USER APPS because the system's app & data are incompatible with other Roms & with other phones.... Just Backup and restore user apps and then you'll have to configure system apps again, because of the incompatibility. Also, there are some apps that can only be used in determined Roms and/or determined Android version (some apps for example, are compatible with Jelly Bean but Incompatible with KitKat or the reverse of this, etc. and so...)
Good news is.. Root is now here.

Need to transfer apps and data from S5 to S8

Hi,
I got a new S8 yesterday and I am unable to use smart switch to transfer my apps and data to S8 from S5. I have CRdroid custom ROM on my S5 and I installed the Smart Switch app on S5 from google play store.
When i start the app on my S5, I get some error saying the "signining key is mismatched between the app and the firmware. Please check and reinstall ENG_APk to ENG_Firmaware or USER_APK to USER_Firmaware. Smart switch does not work if signining key is mismatched"
I would like to know if any of you have a solution to resolve this issue or any other method of transferring the apps and data from S5 to S8.
Thanks in Advance.
Regards
Sada
Make sure both phones are rooted
Install Titanium Backup on your S5 and backup all your user apps with data
Once finished go to your internal storage in your s5 and copy the folder TitaniumBackup to internal storage of your s8 and install Titanium Backup on the S8 and restore your data
Done

CRDroid is a custom rom based off lineageOS/AOSP. Smart switch only works on samsung (based) roms. That's why you get the key error.

For the same reason as above 99% of the time this will not work. You can't simply "copy" on AOSP and "paste" on Samsung roms. And even IF it works most likely there will pop up errors here and there.
My advise: Start with a clean slate.
All,
Thanks a lot for your responses and suggestions. I got my answer.
