Does anybody know how apps that use your fingerprint to login will be dealing with the situation that there is no longer a fingerprint reader on the pixel?
Thanks
Nick
Face unlock.
Hi @sic0048,
Thanks for your answer. This is exactly what I presumed. I was wondering if any apps which are now using fingerprints for logging in, will work straight out of the box. Or will the app developers have to program in support for face unlock. In other words will for example banking apps work directly after the pixel4 is released or will one have to wait till these apps (and it is quite a few) are updated.
bye
nick
I'm not a developer, but my guess is that the unlocking is always handled by the phone, regardless of method. The app is told when it is unlocked, not how. So I suspect it will work out of the box.

The API will probably be a generic biometric check which could be fingerprint, face, voice or whatever. It would be over complicated to specify a particular type, rather that the secure service in Android trusts the process used. There is a section in security for trusted services
An exposed mod allows you to trick all apps into using face unlock. If your OK with rooting your phone then the problem is solved.

I gladly paid for mine.
Payment server
I was going to pay for it too. But I don't trust their payment server. I should be allowed to use Paypal and not need to enter my personal information again. So sorry Bud but I don't trust a method where I log into Paypal, and then get sent to a window where I need to enter my address, my phone number etc.. doesn't feel trustworthy. I have never had to enter my information after I used Paypal for something and I am not about to start.
I guess I'll go back to sensor lock and just have to fix the code to allow the phone to answer. I would have supported his effort but not if I need to re-enter my personal stuff that Paypal has confirmed. :
OH SNAP!! I just realized it removed my outlook email account on my device and keeps crashing SQB. I don't think anyone should install it. Seriously this program is malicious code somewhere

Well it is not our server, its from www.2CO.com (a CC procesing company). If you don't trust them, just contact them and ask but don't try to discredit us with that kind of comments.

...definitely no malicious code in PocketShield. This is one of the best locking apps available. Customer support is second-to-none. Updates come thick and fast with new options and settings. Superb software - just buy it!
I second that pocketshield is an excellent app and have experienced no malware-like effects
has anyone come across an issue with it not locking when waking up?
Mine stopped working and now doesn't lock unless I run the Lock app.
Make sure you have latest v2.1.1
If power off with AeButton or other way not the standard power off, it might not lock.
regards
mine locks very well, but i suggest asking for help @ pocketshield.net there u can speak directly with the developer ..
Pocketshield ROCKS! and the developer has been super-responsive to enhancement/bug reports.

Uninstalling pocketshield
I installed Pocketshield on my phone, then uninstalled it because it was making my phone crash and ending up with a blank screen that was impossible to take out, and now, the phone skin is changed to the theme that comes with Pocketshield. I removed the program, but I can't go back to the original phone skin that comes with the HTC Diamond. How can I go back to original settings without doing a hard reset?

Tnx u are a lifesaver. I had the same problem, dld new version ystrday.
Tnx again
Have you gone through the settings?
I have an HD2 as well and no problems! and so my fellows who recommended it to me.
Pocket Shield
I have tried both Pocket Shield Protector and Pocket Shield Proximity used in conjunction with VolumeX.
I have tried nearly every possible combination of settings to achieve what I need and I always seem to hit one snag or another.
I originally purchased Pocket Shield Protector and VolumeX. When my blue tooth answer button stopped working I switched to Pocket Shield Proximity and Jim was nice enough to switch my registration from the more expensive Protector application to the less expensive Proximity application. I have since asked Jim to move my registration back to the Protector application but he hasn't as of yet.
In general this is a good application, however, it lacks polish on the basic functionality.
Anyone having this problem? I switched my lock screen security over to the fingerprint scanner the other day, and I seem to be having some problems with it. It works ok. Like I can scan my finger, and the screen will unlock, but I keep randomly also getting asked for my alternate password, which is the other way that I can unlock it.
I'll unlock the screen with my fingerprint, then it will ask me for my password. I can hit Cancel, and it will still work fine, or if I enter the password, it takes me to the Lock Screen settings. It also randomly asks for my password if I'm just doing something random, like using Google Maps. And now, sometimes the screen won't even come on, when I wake the device. Black screen, backlighting lights up. What the heck??? Very strange. Please help, thanks in advance

Sorry, I forgot that I also posted this on XDA. I'd received some responsed on Android Central.
Are you having all of the exact same problems? Or just some of them? Because I believe that I solved the problem of the phone screen occassionally being black on wake by moving all of my apps off of the SD card onto the device memory.
As for being randomly asked for my alternate password, I believe that this is because of an app called Worx Home that I recently installed so I could check my work email on my phone. I'm thinking it doesn't like having Fingerprint security. Do you have this app by chance? I can't verify this because I can't afford to remove the app.
fingerprint issue
It turned out my problem was Touchdown HD app for reading my GroupWise email. My employer requires more secure lock on my phone. Thanks for following up!

Ahh, so then I guess that confirms my suspicion about my work email app. Same problem, it wants a different security setting. You're welcome, and thanks for replying!
By the way, if anybody else is having blank screen on wake issues, one other thing I did at the time was uninstall the app Tasker. Not sure if that had anything to do with it, but it was one thing I did.
It appears there's no Samsung Find My Mobile settings on my S7 edge. There's no way to control/change Remote Controls, SIM Change Alert, and Reactivation Lock. I know there's alternatives out there but I actually like using this service.
On my S6 edge, they were under Settings > Lock Screen and Security > Find My Mobile.
Anybody find these settings?
Quick check of AT&T manual versus Verizon manual shows Verizon's manual makes no mention of the settings to enable this feature. AT&T'S manual does show the setting being present in the settings app security settings.
Samsung's "Find my mobile" web portal has a help feature describing how to tell if your device can be used with Find my mobile.
The Verizon variant truly does seem to lack support for it, since the options for enabling it are not found where Samsung's help feature says they will be on feature-capable devices.
You can go third party like Cerebrus or use Google's Android Device Manager to replicate some, but not all, of this feature's capabilities.
I'm sure no one will be surprised to learn that Verizon sells a premium version of their pre-installed basic VZ Protect feature that includes device location for a monthly fee.
I simply cannot believe the degree to which Samsung has agreed to cripple this flagship device's features to meet this carrier's demands. Were I the Samsung executive that handled these arrangements, I would have told Verizon they would receive no accommodations for device configuration that differed from any other American carrier and let them decide if they wanted to be the only major carrier unable to offer the device to their customers.

I confirmed though Samsung chat that VZW disabled the feature. Chat rep suggested I contact my carrier to have the feature enabled.

I went to Android Device Manager and my s7 Edge was there without me having to have done anything - I could locate it and remote ring/wipe it.
This is one thing I wish was on the phone - iPhones you cant reactivate without an iCloud password even if you wipe it. This needs to exist through Google or Samsung.

Once you set up your Google account you can't use the phone without the account info after wiping. Well unless you use one of the hacks, but they get squashed as Google releases new versions.

Only thing I see is it says use find my mobile to check if FRP is active. Without it I'm not sure how to check.

So I guess it is just kinda there... only way to test it is to try to factory reset your phone without booting it.
Dang All I want to do is change my Sammy password and instructions TELL me to deactivate reactivation lock. Good thing these forums are here. Thought I was going nuts. Again. TY (S7):victory:
No, I'm not talking about Smart Lock, that doesn't have the option to stay unlocked while connected to a home WiFi that you know is secure. There's a location based one but apparently it isn't always working for me as sometimes I still need to use irises or PIN to unlock my phone at home. Very annoying.
Is there a good Galaxy S8 + compatible app for keeping my phone unlocked when connected to my home WiFi? Thanks!

I'm using an app called delayed lock, and it works great
Tasker just seems complicated. But I know how specific it can get in its functions so I'll take a look into it.
I'll also take a look into delayed lock as well, thanks!
Any other suggestions?
Thx dude
Delayed Lock is not compatible with my AT&T Samsung galaxy s8+
Anyone else have any suggestions?
Bump
Try
App-Lock Fingerprint
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sp.protector.free
Once installed a d setup look at Settings -> Lock Convience
Hey thanks for the reply, do I have to have the whole phone locked by App-lock so that it'll automatically unlock? I currently use my irises to unlock my phone.
Smart lock seems to work perfectly with a Bluetooth device. My Gear 2 watch is on me all the time, so I never see my lock screen unless I reboot the phone.
Use the integrated Smart Lock from google, you will find it under settings, lock screen and security.

Tasker does have a learning curve, however there are plenty of scripts & profiles online to paste in and/or modify. Once it's set up, you can forget about it. I use one to match a google calendar and mute according to a class schedule.

You obviously didn't read my post but thanks anyway. If you look, it only has a location feature, it doesn't specifically have a feature to keep unlocked while connected to a trusted WiFi connection. I'm looking for that feature because the location one doesn't always work. Location is on, settings for it on high, and I'm still having to put in my passcode/use the iris scanner. Not sure why it's not working as intended. I'll post screenshots if I have to though.

I'll probably have to try it out, not sure if I want to shell out the 2.99 for it. Maybe I'll wait till my Google Opinion Rewards gets it for me
I used Hi Locker on my LG G4 for this. I havent tried it yet on the S8, give it a try.
i have a number of apps that unlock with a fingerprint. are these not going to work on the P4?
I think they will ask for face unlock. And maybe you need to touch some button on the display to "start scanning the face" (and this should take 1/3 of a second) and not accidently authorise a purchasing without additional manual action.
As for the apps, they should automatically adapt to this. I don't think is something a dev need to do (unlike the stupid Pixel Visual Core which, afaik, is something devs need to manually add support, and that's horrible implementation for Pixel users).

We'll have an article on the Portal explaining this situation soon.
The apps use a biometric security API, they do not know that a fingerprint reader or face Id was used. It's a trusted service that negotiates and approves a security test. The Android OS provides the security authentication not the app
I'm also pretty curious about this. I had set up most accounts to use long crazy passwords Google suggested becuase I didn't need to know them for my fingerprint scanner to work.
Actually I have a few apps that use fingerprint to unlock and now with the pixel 4 they won't work. 2 bank apps and a password manager. When I open them the fingerprint option doesn't even come up. I have to use a password.

That's exactly how I thought it would work. Apparently this is not the case.
All of my bank applications switch to pin code verify, or password depending on the apps capabilities.
If there was an api (didn't check) then either the app devs decided not to use it properly or just plain hacked the bio Auth directly somehow.
