Fingerprint sensor self hacked? - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

You guys probably won't believe me, but I'll say it anyways. I have just one fingerprint stored, which is my right thumb. Just a few moments ago I used my left thumb in two multiple successions to unlock my device.

You can actually register both thumbs at the same time by swapping left to right with every scan until it successfully registers.

I know that, as I was the one who mentioned it back then on here. lol
I had only registered my right thumb. It could be either user error ( likely ) or a glitch.

Ah ok i saw it on one android YouTube channels

There were a lot of complaints that it was difficult to unlock the S10+ with the fingerprint scanner when the phone launched so Samsung very likely lowered the match criteria to make the fingerprint scanner more responsive which also made it less secure.
One Plus used to brag about having the fastest fingerprint unlock technology--and then owners discovered that nearly all of their friends could unlock One Plus phones with their own unregistered fingerprints.
There were also problems with the supposedly more secure 3D fingerprint scanner on the Huawei P20 Pro at launch--some reviewers reported that the unregistered fingerprints of friends could unlock the phone.
You could delete whatever fingerprint data you registered on your phone and then try adding your fingerprint again to see if the match becomes more secure.
OS updates can alter both how the fingerprint scanner records data and what criteria is necessary to be considered a match so erasing existing data and doing a new fingerprint registration might help.

I received a biometrics update this morning for improvements and fingerprint version 2. Or something like that. Caught me off guard as it wasn't a normal monthly OTA.

Where are you from ? What Carrier do you have ?

Palm inadvertent touch

Hi,
Just got the s7 Edge and am having an issue with using the keyboard with the edge screen. When I'm typing on the phone, my palm regularly and inadvertently touches keys on the left side of the screen, particularly caps lock. As you can imagine, this gets frustrating quickly. Any fix for this?

You'll get used to it. It's the one thing about those curved screens.

From what I've read, others who've had the Galaxy 6 edge didn't have this problem. The screen is overly sensitive. It's nearly impossible to type without it caps locking or switching to symbols. This is really poor design. I'm surprised this was such a highly acclaimed phone when it has this big of a flaw. The curved screen shouldn't be a drawback.
You either learn to not do it or with the help of a case it's much less of a problem
There has been an update pushed out by Samsung to fix this. Some people are getting it a bit later and if you have a branded S7e you will have to wait until the carrier releases it.

I called Verizon and they weren't aware of an upcoming patch, and that all patches are released by the manufacturer anyway. So I'm not clear on why Samsung would not have released it yet. Has anyone who's gotten the patch on other networks found that the issue is fixed? I assume this problem exists on every Edge 7.

I'm on pb1. But I'm wondering if this is just a flaw of a curved glass screen. Does anyone have a s6 edge that had sensitivity issues when the Web of their hand between the thumb and forefinger touched the screen while trying to type? Also, I got a case. It makes zero difference since the issue is the webbing touching the left side of the screen where the number, symbol, caps lock key is on the keyboard. It's nearly impossible to type an email unless I do it by consciously holding the webbing of my hand above the phone. The edge is such a useless design. I'd get the regular s7, but I wanted the bigger battery. I regret moving from the droid turbo. Everyone said this had the most screen on time, but I find it in line with the turbo.

S7 Edge FRP Bypass (with video) restore nearly all functions of your phone.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdxfKh9NLQQ
works every time.
remember the first time you do this you have to stay on the wifi screen for at least 1 hour for it to work.
once you have bypassed this once you never have to wait on subsequent reboots and all your settings and history are saved.

Correct but I believe there is a 3 day wait until you can log back in.
However, a lot of the time people buy second hand phones and the seller has not signed out, making this the only remaining option.
This literally makes it pointless to have this security as it can be bypassed anyway, this is why I don't bother having it on in the first place.

Reasons I love my Galaxy S8 +

It goes with out saying that of course I love the screen on the phone. But something I love even more is the data speeds. On average at home I'm getting about 60 mbps which is crazy fast even faster that my home one, and over 100 at work. Amazing. Even the other day I only had, 0.2 mbps and Facebook still worked. So far I'm a happy camper.

I'm using an S8, but totally agree with you! Being in Australia, I am used to absolutely dismal data speeds, even on the Telstra network. Yesterday I had an app downloaded in under 3 seconds. That is unheard of for me. I am considered regional and only get 1 bar at best for reception, and I was downloading at a friends house and she gets even worse signal. Really impressed by this phone. If only it didn't feel like it was covered in oil! I'm terrified I'm going to drop it. Waiting for my case to arrive.

Reasons I am disappointed with S8
I actually like my S* fairly well. But Samsung has done some things that raise my ire: first the whole bait and switch tactic of saying you get a 256G and headphones for $99 if you pre-order. Seems the fine print say "limited" quantity. I would say nearly non-existent as I tried within 30 minutes of receiving my phone and it seems there are a ton of others who tried and failed. Very, Very Shady. Secondly they said they would have a no-questions asked return policy...I tested that and could not return my phone.
Other things that don't work well: fingerprint reader, facial recognition, iris scanner, Bixby and Google Now. All of the security recognition are spotty at best. The fingerprint is the most reliable, but sometimes I have to reboot the phone to get it working again and it is right next to the camera (bone head placement) It is also difficult to reach the fingerprint reader one handed and it takes alot of effort to get your finger just right. Might as well type in my password!!! Bixby right now is totally worthless. Hopefully it will mature, but I am not setting much expectations here as all other Samsung software is crapware.
Unfortunately the S8 appears to have broken Google Now I use to be able to click on an article, read it and then hit the X to exit and return to Google Now. The hitting the X to return to Google Now no longer works...it just goes back to the home screen. They really need to fix that NOW.
If anyone wants to buy a slightly used S8 for a discount let me know...as I think I'll be selling mine

Can't argue with the pre order thing. Nor Bixby. Nor google now as I haven't tried it on the S8, but the fingerprint reader on my S8+ works fine and placement is actually pretty natural to me with a case on.
If I had the cash i'd buy it but i'm sure people will snap your hand off for it online
Use the G now launcher and it works to return.

According to someone in the Sprint thread its for Google Maps/Navigation stability and fixes.
That it does. It has to do with navigation and swipe. Nothing big.

It's a really big security patch for one of the largest Android vulnerabilities too. I'm glad it enhances swipe, the samsung keyboard is particularly inaccurate on this phone.
Does NOT patch BlueBorne Vulnerability!!!!
Installed the update this morning. It does NOT eliminate the BlueBorne vulnerability, unless Armis' scanner is broken ...
EDIT: Contacted Armis and received the following in response:
Armis Security said:
We have reviewed this. It appears that Verizon pushed a critical update that addresses BlueBorne. However, in our review they did not change the security patch level of this build to September 1, 2017. The Security Patch Level (SPL) in build NMF26X.N950USQU1AQI5 shows a date of August 1, 2017.
We have updated our device scan and review to account for this, and it will be available on the Google Play store shortly.
Thank you for reaching out us on this issue.

EDIT #2: An updated version of the BlueBorne Scanner from Armis is available on Google Play. I've installed it, but unfortunately it still indicates that VZW devices are vulnerable.
UPDATE: Armis' app has been updated to version 1.04, which correctly identifies VZW Note 8s as having been patched to eliminate the vulnerability.
It changed my 4GLTE icon so that it is constantly highlighted even on Wi-Fi. I don't think that was present before unless I'm mistaken
Just got it yesterday and also turned it onto this this morning. The OTA's on my S7 Active over on AT&T completely and eventually thrashed my phone and was eventually unusable. So I'm waiting.

I'm glad switching keyboards got easier on these phones at least. I'm using swiftkey beta and it's much better than the past. Better than gboard for me. But I like bixby for voice transcription.

Having some issues

I'm having some concerns. I got the essential phone a few days ago. The first one had a 6 hour screen time, but over 2 days it would not activate on Sprint so Sprint and I agreed to exchange it. The replacement got hot and now I got the 3rd one. This one is really odd now. When it boots up it doesn't automatically download anything. I have to physically unlock it so it can get my emails and all. Then yesterday it had the shortest battery life and demanded downloading apps over WiFi. I let it download all night and it still didn't download everything... and I found the battery really used up badly without even touching the phone. It also won't download software updates claiming it's the latest. Security update is September 5th.
Also... Anyone else notice it states encrypted without actually activating encryption?

I've not had any battery issues, but I just got the phone again yesterday, had to return one because it had a bad microphone. I have noticed, however, that I tend to get notifications when I pick up the phone. Now, like I said, I just got it yesterday, so my experience pool is shallow, but I can't think of a time that notifications were waiting for me when I picked it up rather than showing up when I picked it up - like the movement is kicking something into functioning again.
As for encryption, I think all Android devices are encrypted out of the box now, and have been since Marshmallow? They tried with Lollipop, if I recall, but performance was hurt too much. I think it's a requirement to ship a device with Google's app infrastructure now.
Can anyone confirm that it shows encrypted on thiers too?

I suspect that it's like Nexel and Pixel phones. If so, have to wait for SuperSU and/or factory images, so one can extract the kernel and modify it.

As stated already, all Android devices are encrypted out of the box since marshmallow. So every device running marshmallow and up will say encrypted because it is encrypted be default. There is no way to disable it without a modified boot image.

This is the same for me after each restart. I also have to unlock the phone first. I don't have a problem with that though. I actually prefer it this way in the event that the phone is lost or stolen. It will not be updated without first being unlocked.

Anyone have data issues with some of the apps not opening/loading on the sprint network? I have to keep resetting my APN settings for it to work for a little bit then have to do it again. Any reasons as to why it does this
